Marzee Barnett

Marzee Barnett, 82, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in her home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Kelso.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

She is survived by six daughters, June Curry and Betty Stone, both of Fort Smith, Shirley and Johnnie Turnage, both of Greenwood, and Sheila VanSandt and Kay Thompson, both of Jane, Mo.; a son, Jackie Barnett of Missouri; 27 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be family members.

The body may be viewed from noon to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Jean Walls Harris

Betty Jean Walls Harris was born Jan. 23, 1924, in the White Oak community north of Ozark to James Virgil and Eulah Eupha Shaver Walls, and passed away Oct. 9, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She attended Webb City School and graduated in the Ozark School District.

She worked for the first telephone company in Ozark as an operator.

She also worked as a supervisor at the Seamproof Co-op in Ratcliff, a bookkeeper for Bercher Tire in Fort Smith and supervisor of second shift operations at Southern Steel & Wire until her retirement.

She was a devoted member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member and past president of the American Business Women’s Association, and was elected by her peers as the Woman of the Year.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Frank Walls, and three sisters, Lillian Inman, Gelene Boren and Mary Frances Edwards.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at Morgan Hill cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

She is survived by her two sons, Jimmy L. Harris of Van Buren and Stephen W. Harris and his wife, Gwen, of North Little Rock; a brother, Jack Walls and his wife, Joyce, of Atkins; three grandsons, Allen, Stephen and Greg; two great-grandsons, Drew and Will; and a great-granddaughter, Kylie Harris.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jo Ann Mayfield

Jo Ann Mayfield, 70, of Lavaca died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in a local hospital.

She was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Fort Smith. She was of the Baptist faith.

She retired from Riverside Furniture Plant 2.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Lavaca with burial at Mayberry cemetery in Lavaca.

She is survived by her husband, Dick T. Mayfield; a daughter, Patty and Lindel Graham of Lavaca; two sons, Mark and Barbara Mayfield and Bill and Judy Mayfield, all of Lavaca; a sister, Louise Payton of Roland; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Clifton, Jay Williams, Wyatt Barbour, Andrew Lewis, Dan Mayfield and Darrell Miner.

Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Nicks.

The family will visit with friends today from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 3291 S. Thompson, Suite D104, Springdale, AR 72764.

Jeanene M. Harris

Jeanene M. Harris, age 75, of Fort Smith passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a charter member of Kelly Heights Baptist Church and Windsor Park Baptist Church in Fort Smith and was a member of First Baptist Church Community Bible Class.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Hugo, and her parents, George and Esther Cline.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Buddy Harris; two daughters, Carrie Harris of Rogers and Pat Kirk of Fort Lewis, Wash.; two sons, Jim Harris of Fort Smith and George Harris of Greenwood; one sister, Peggy Hobbs of Van Buren; eight grandchildren, Drew, Sarah and Abby Harris, George T. Harris Jr., Clara and Slater Kirk, Amy Hugo Moya and Michael Hugo; and two great-grandchildren, Carlos and Carrington Moya.

Pallbearers will be Drew, Sarah and Abby Harris, George T. Harris Jr., Clara and Slater Kirk, Amy Hugo Moya and Michael Hugo.

Family visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Sebastian County Heart Unit, P.O. Box 1274, Fort Smith, AR 72902.

Juanita McDonald

Juanita McDonald, 78, of Hackett died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital.

She was retired from Wyeth Laboratories and was a member of the Hackett First Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hackett First Baptist Church with burial at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd McDonald; a daughter, Judy Tollett and husband R.D. of Hooks, Texas; one grandson, John Hixson of Hackett; and several nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Roy Sewell, Brent and J.T. Williams, Clyde and Davy Davis and Darrell Wear.

Leila Bounds

Leila Bounds, 97, of Fort Smith died Friday. Oct. 8, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, taught the Adult Women Sunday School Class, and was a member of RSVP, a retired school teacher for Fairview Elementary School, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, a life member of PTA and the widow of Floyd Bounds.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Baring and husband Ray of Irving, Texas, and Sandra Krueger and husband Bill of Atlanta; a sister, Margaret Fletcher of Dublin, Texas; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Krueger, Bill K. Krueger, Ray and Bruce Baring and Scott Branch.

Barbara Meek

Barbara E. Meek, 72, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a private piano teacher for many years and a member of the Federate Music Teachers Association of America and the First Lutheran Church.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

She is survived by a brother, David Meek of Casper, Wyo.

Pallbearers will be John, Sam and David Terry, Daxon Edwards, David and Christopher Meek, Colin Sandifer and Aaron North.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 419 N. 12th St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Wordna Duke

Wordna “Woody” Duke, 73, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in a local hospital.

She was born June 29, 1931, in Fort Smith.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated.

She is survived by a son, Dale Brooks of Mount Ida; and six grandchildren.

Marjorie Allbaugh

MENA — Marjorie Lee Allbaugh, 91, of Mena died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in a Mena nursing home.

She was born Jan. 16, 1913, in Hon. She was the owner and operator of Allbaugh’s Florist in Mena, a member of the First Baptist Church in Mena and the widow of Howell Allbaugh.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She is survived by a daughter, June Philpot of Mena; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Holder, Bill Schuller, Jeremy Hooper, Paul George, Russell Gibbons and Chad Lawrence.
