John Dagis
John Dagis, 92, of Cedarville died Thursday, July 15, 2004, in a local hospital. He was of the Lutheran faith, a life member of the Harmony Club and a retired supervisor for Mattison Machine Works in Illinois.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Hall cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Dagis of the home; two daughters, Cara Carter of Cedarville and Shelby Dagis of Oak Park, Ill.; a sister, Lena Loka of Merrill, Wis.; one granddaughter, Nicole Astre of Van Buren; and two great-granddaughters, Kayla Moses and Jessica Moses, both of Van Buren.
Jeannie Ritcheson
Jeannie Ritcheson, 52, of Van Buren died Thursday, July 15, 2004, in a local hospital. She was active in the Alma Chapter 42 and the Arkansas State Chapter of DAV; she was of the Pentecostal faith, and also a loving mother and wife.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon of the home; one daughter, Sherry Ritcheson of Van Buren; one son, Brian Ritcheson of the home; five sisters, Kay Bull of Fort Smith, Sharon Faulkner of Greenwood, Ronnie Dye of Milltown, Kim Hill of Alma and Tonya Willhite of Alma; four brothers, James Perry of Mulberry, Johnny Willhite of Fort Smith, David and Robert Willhite, both of Alma; her mother-in-law, Wilma Ritcheson; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Ritcheson; a son-in-law, Scott Porta; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 19 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Leta Mae Smith
Leta Mae Smith, 79, of Hackett died Thursday, July 15, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital of natural causes. She was a homemaker and the widow of James T. (Jake) Smith. She is also preceded in death by one son, Larry James Smith; and one great-grandson, Kyle Evan Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Old Union cemetery in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Moran of Greenwood, Ann Neubauer of Fort Smith and Sharon Matlock of Hackett; a son, Charles Smith of Hackett; one sister, Janie Parker of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy McLaughlin of Fort Smith and Mercedes Smith of Rudy; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Russell and Michael Moran, Charles and Kevin Hamilton, Aaron and Darrin Neubauer and Brandon Smith.
The body may be viewed from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ella Harrsch
HILLSBORO, Ohio — Ella Harriet Harrsch, 85, of Hillsboro, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Hillsboro. She was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Paris. She was a retired budget analyst for the Department of the Navy, a member of Sugar Tree Ridge Church of Christ and the widow of Arthur Harrsch.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 23 at McVay cemetery in Paris under the direction of Turner & Son Funeral Home of Hillsboro, Ohio.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Howett of Hillsboro, Ohio; a son, Richard Harrsch of Gulfport, Miss.; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

John B. Anderson, 75, of Van Buren died Thursday, July 15, 2004, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of the 
Korean War, a member of Rena Road Baptist Church and retired from Sears.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Peveyhouse cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Penny King of Warrensburg, Mo.; three sons, John E. Anderson of Lenexa, Kan., David Anderson of Belton, Mo., and Arthur Anderson of Van Buren; four sisters, Rita Staab and Mavis Bess, both of Sallisaw, Betty Nix of Jenks, Okla., and Maxine Hines of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Mac Anderson of Alma; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Joe Szczerba, 73, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in a local hospital. He was a retired pressman for Weldon, Williams & Lick, a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, an Army veteran of the
Korean War, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the UCT.
Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be 2 p.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Julia McClain of Fort Smith; two sons, John Szczerba of Van Buren and Joey Szczerba of Fort Smith; two sisters, Sophie Sarna of Caro, Mich., and Stella Marginean of Inkster, Mich.; two brothers, Wally Szczerba of Detroit and Benny Szczerba of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy Bartley, David Parish, George and Bobby Kramer, Thomas McClain, John Gildewell, DeWayne Hannah and Steve Marts.

Curtis Clifton Keaton, 73, of Van Buren died Thursday, July 15, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Morris, Okla. He was a self-employed logger, a member of God’s Harvest Pentecostal Church of Alma and an evangelist.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at God’s Harvest Pentecostal Church in Alma with burial at Rankin cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; four daughters, Nelda Keaton of Conway, Cheri Teague of Greenwood, Mary Woods of Russellville and Diana Powers of Roland; three sons, James Keaton of Dennison, Texas, Robert Keaton of Texas City, Texas, and Alvin Isham of Muskogee, Okla.; a brother, Clifford Keaton of Ozark; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Gelene Hendershot Lamb
Gelene Hendershot Lamb, 64, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in a local hospital. She was the retired administrator at New Haven Nursing Home, a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church, a lifetime member of Old Town Setoma Club, and a past member of the Fort Smith Zonta Club. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Hendershot.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Leon Lamb; a son, Randy Hendershot of Van Buren; two stepdaughters, LeAnn Rogers of Mount Vernon, Mo., and Melissa Sitton of Vian; three stepsons, Darren Lamb, Kevin Lamb of Van Buren and Stephen Lamb of Muldrow; three sisters, Genieve Brasel and Linda Kilgore, both of Jasper, and Genel Buckle of Robbinsville, N.C.; a brother, Hubert Roberson of Parthenon; and 18 grandchildren.

Brandon Robert Beshears
Brandon Robert Beshears, 21, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in his home. He was born April 8, 1983, in Fort Smith. He was a graduate of Alma High School, class of 2001. Brandon was an electrical engineering major at UAFS, received the Gordon Kelly Electrical Engineering Scholarship and worked in construction. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and formerly attended Mulberry Church of Christ. Also an avid supporter of Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at Evergreen cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Caleb and Casey Beshears, Bradley Marion, Chris Weeks, Matthew Scott, Eric Woodard and Chris Mayser.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Mike Dahlem of Alma, and father and stepmother, Dan and Renee Beshears of Fort Smith; two brothers, Caleb and Casey Beshears of Alma; grandmother, Aline Pope of Alma; grandfather, Robert Beshears of Bonanza; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Brandon is also survived by a special friend, Britny Asbury and her daughter, Kadynce Asbury. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Erma Beshears, and a grandfather, Gerald Pope.

Cheryl Jean Lee Burnham, age 47, of Delaware died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004. She was born Jan. 28, 1957, in Little Rock. She was a member of Crest View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Denton Ray Lee, and grandparents.
Survivors: Husband of 27 years, George Burnham of Delaware; two sons, George Burnham Jr. of Atkins and Phillip Burnham of Delaware; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Daniel Wainwright of Downsville, La., and Allison and Jeremy Rhoades of Delaware; mother, Shirley Ann Lee of Delaware; a brother, Eric Denton Lee of Delaware; three sisters, Twla Susie Lensing of Fort Smith, Paula Vinson of London, and Ellen Lee Spivey of Delaware; three grandchildren, Charles Mitchel Wainwright of Downsville, La., Nadia LaRae Burnham of Dover, and Haylee Alexa Rhoades of Delaware.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Delaware First Baptist Church with the Rev. Elton Thomas, the Rev. Wiley Jones, and the Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. Walter Rome “Gube” Peevy
Walter Rome “Gube” Peevy, of Alma was born Oct. 6, 1920, and died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in a local hospital. He had worked at Bruce Rogers Co. and Allen Canning Co. Walter served in the Army as a member of 1212th military Police Company during World War II in the India-Burma Campaign and received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and a Bronze Service Star. Walter was a member of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Alma. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Don Peevy; his parents, Burl and Vash Peevy; two brothers, Burl Ray and Roger Peevy.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Jean Peevy of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bob Woolsey of Ozark and Doris and Billy Ray of Van Buren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter Ray and Debbie Peevy of Alma and David Lee and Dot Peevy of Alma; 10 grandchildren, Robert and Jason Woolsey and Lisa Skolarski, all of Ozark, Larry Don Tounzen and Christina Harris, both of Van Buren, Chad Peevy of Austin, Texas, Andrew, Jessica, Jennifer and Matthew Peevy, all of Alma; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Alice Boatright of Alma; four brothers, Bruce Peevy of Gatesville, Texas, Vilus, Thell and Randall Peevy, all of Alma.

Elizabeth Stephens Gies, 85, of Denison, Texas, went to be with her Lord at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004. She was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Paris. She was a homemaker, a lifelong member of Waples Methodist Church in Denison. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Aaron Gies; and her brother, John E. Stephens.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Waples United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Bowden officiating. Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith with the Rev. Kim Cloniger officiating, under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home of Denison, Texas.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and John Lopez III of Richardson, Texas, Carol and William O’Dell of Colina, Texas, and Chris and Curtis McBarnette of Peachtree City, Ga.; three sisters, Evelyn Gurisco of Little Rock, Estelle England of Fort Smith, and Earlene and Jack Dietz of Amarillo, Texas; nine grandchildren, David Atkins, English Atkins, John Lopez IV, Seana Delozier, Sloan Nitka, Stone Scoggin, Aaron Beavers, Kesli Johnson and Ashli Beavers; and seven great-grandchildren, Destinee Delozier, Derik Delozier, Dylan Delozier, Aaron Nitka, Maitreya Brooks, Olivia Johnson and Tesfa Dubey; and several nieces and nephews.

MAGAZINE — Clovis T. Hefley, 90, of Magazine died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Booneville. She was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Ratcliff. She was a homemaker and a member of Coles Chapel Methodist Church. She was the widow of Lonnie Hefley.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Coles Chapel south of Branch.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Acor of Magazine and Dolores Rutledge of Collinsville, Ill.; a son, Tommy Hefley of Magazine; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Mike Rutledge, Larry Acor, Steve Moody, Clifton Hice, Bob Gassmann and Steve Young.

James Red Hancox, 66, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004. He was an employee of Rheem Manufacturing Co., a Free Mason, and a member of the Shriners.

He is survived by two sons, Doug and Steve Hancox of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Dan and Jerry Bartlett of Fort Smith; one brother, Charles Hancox of Fort Smith; and five grandchildren.
