MULDROW — Thomas Willard James, 59, of Muldrow died Sunday, July 20, 2003, in Tulsa. He was a retired employee of Sallisaw Public Schools and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Long, Okla.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Fairhill cemetery in Cameron under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette; two daughters, Jean and Georgette James, both of the home; two sons, Dale James of Peggs, Okla., and Phillip James of Kentucky; three sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Cameron, Bessie James of Oklahoma and Mollie Lamb of Gans; two brothers, Robert James of Cameron and David James of Woodward, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Hougland, Curtis Mitchell, Tommy and Charles James, Billy and Dustin Jackson and Don Summerlin.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home.
Russell Matthiessen
PARIS — Russell Matthiessen, 73, of Paris died Sunday, July 20, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a veteran, former truck driver and a member of Teamsters.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Paris under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son, Robert Tilley of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; two brothers, William Matthiessen of Pound, Wis., and Kenneth Matthiessen of Brookfield, Wis.; and two grandchildren.
Evelyn Erwin
Evelyn Louise Erwin, 56, of Fort Smith died Saturday, July 19, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born March 15, 1947, in Sallisaw. She was a bookkeeper and a Baptist.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Memory Gardens cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her mother, Esther Erwin of Fort Smith; and three sisters, Karon Summerhill of Fort Smith, Sharon Patton of Tulsa and Edith Gross of Muskogee, Okla.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Patton, Clint Gross, Mark and Mark Erwin, Jeff Owens and Kurt Gustfason.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.

Norma Russell, 37, of Fort Smith died Sunday, July 20, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a member of God’s Harvest Pentecostal Church and a homemaker.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Hall cemetery in Natural Dam.
She is survived by her husband, Leon; a son, Leon Russell III of the home; her father, Harvey Mills of Fort Smith; three sisters, Kathy Pendergrass of Oklahoma, Shirley Evans of Cedarville and Laverne Ledbetter of Fort Smith; two brothers, Johnny Mills of Alma and Howard Mills of Tucker.
Pallbearers will be James and Rodney Ledbetter, Jeremy Evans, Richard Russell, Alex Ramirez and Petro Chavarria.

Nina Beth Brown
Nina Beth Brown, 59, of Ozark died Saturday, July 19, 2003, in a Ozark hospital. She was born July 24, 1943, in Altus. She was the daughter of the late Chloe and Agnes Gowing and sister of the late Paul Gilbert Gowing. She was owner and operator of J.C. Penney Catalog store in Ozark, a member of Eagles in Altus and attended Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery with the Rev. John Brasseaux officiating.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Paul Burns of Ozark; a son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Wendie Brown of Arlington, Texas; a sister, RuthAnn Ballard of Baltimore; a brother, James Ralph Gowing of Altus; five grandchildren, Seryna Burns, Samantha Burns and Shaila Burns, all of Ozark, Tad Brown and Baylie Brown, both of Arlington, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Bill Boren, Yarb Ballard, Robert Knowles, John Milam, Charles Ray White and Scott Chrisman.

Utah Cal McKinney
Utah Cal McKinney, 83, of Bokoshe died Saturday, July 19, 2003, in Bokoshe. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Cole McKinney, Dalton McKinney, Charlie “Sonny” McKinney and Carl McKinney; and one sister, Mammie Sexton. Cal was a member of the Flower Hill Pentecostal Church of God, loved playing his guitar, fishing, hunting and planting and working his garden each year and he loved his grandkids.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Mallory Chapel with burial at Old Cache cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi of the home; a daughter, Kathy Dudiot and husband, Blake of Las Vegas; a son, Billy Gene McKinney and wife, Patricia of Bokoshe; a brother, Cotton McKinney and wife, Mary of Keota; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Zack Benefield, Eric Reid, Anthony McKinney, Dustin Bell, Markus McKinney, Jimmy Morris, Robert McCullar and Sandy McKinney.

Iona Wilson, 83, of Van Buren died Sunday, July 20, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a retired owner and operator of Iona’s Beauty Shop. Iona was an active member of T.O.P.S., W.M. and was the secretary of her Sunday school class at First Assembly of God in Van Buren. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.V. “Curly” Wilson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at Alma cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by two sons, Rodger Wilson of Van Buren and David and Barbara Wilson of Van Buren; three sisters, Mamie Staab of Dora, Polly Brammer of Rudy and Geraldine Alls of Albuquerque, N.M.; four brothers, Harold Testerman of Dumas, Texas, Victor Testerman of Fort Gibson, Okla., Jerry Don Testerman of Rudy and Paul Testerman of Van Buren; and two grandchildren, Justin and Janice Wilson, both of Van Buren.

Helen Faye Holmes Tharp
Helen Faye Holmes Tharp, 88, of Waldron was born Jan. 19, 1915, in McKinney, Texas.
The angels took our precious mother and grandmother to heaven on Sunday, July 20, 2003, to be with her Lord and beloved husband, Homer, who preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1986.
She is leaving behind one daughter, Ramona Tharp Franklin and her husband, Junior of Waldron; one son, Charles Andrew Tharp of Waldron; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren who she loved very much.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tommy Franklin, Timmy Franklin, Homer L.Tharp, Charlie Tharp, Marty Gilbert and Matthew Taff.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Newberry, Johnny Murry, Larry Taff, Daniel White, Tyson Akins and Derek Thornsberry.

Nellie Phillips King
Nellie Phillips King, 91, of Fort Smith passed away Sunday, July 20, 2003, in an area nursing home. She was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Washburn to Joseph Edward and Mary Ellen Howard Phillips. She was a homemaker and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Russellville and was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Robert L. King.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Washburn cemetery.
Frances H. Chambless
Frances H. Chambless, age 91, of Oak Grove community died Monday, July 21, 2003, in a local nursing home. She was a member of Catcher Freewill Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of the immediate family of Albert and Cecelia Hurst. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Chambless.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Frances Shirley of Fayetteville and Sue Turner of Van Buren; two stepgrandsons; numerous nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Ursula Hurst.
The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Gill cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Honorary pallbearers will be stepgrandsons, Michael Shirley, nephews, Clayton, Theral, Gene and Bob Neidecker and D.J. Lincks.

Eula Lee Breeden
Eula Lee Breeden, 96, of Van Buren died Saturday, July 19, 2003, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was the widow of Tommy Breeden and was preceded in death by two daughters, Elwanda Lewis and Treva Lewis.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Macedonia cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by two sons, Carroll Breeden and James Breeden, both of Van Buren; a brother, Edgar Knight of Madera, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

ROGERS — Jim D. “Jimbo” Boyd, 40, of Rogers died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in Fort Smith. He was a salesperson for Window Mart in Royal, had coached Little League football and baseball and was a member of Bible Fellowship Church in Rogers.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
Jim is survived by two sons, Matthew Watkins Boyd and Marshall Richard Boyd, both of Rogers; his mother, Barbra Boyd of Van Buren and his father, Clayton Boyd of Ardmore, Okla.; a sister, Nicki Reese of Van Buren; and a brother, Tony Boyd of Oklahoma City.
Pallbearers will be Mark McKinney, Robert Williams, Dewayne Hicks, Greg Nichols, Tim Thatcher, Mike Weindel, Eddie DeWitt and David Shields.

HOT SPRINGS — Herbert L. “Jabba” Thomas Jr., 78, of Hot Springs died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, in a Hot Springs hospital. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, a graduate of Pennsylvania University, a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at Harvard and a certified life Underwriter. He was a Navy 1st lieutenant in World War II and a Methodist. He was a member of the Arkansas Tennis Hall, past president of the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas and the Southern Lawn Tennis Association, chairman and 50-year board member of the Little Rock Boys and Girls Club. He was also president and chairman of the board of First Pyramid Life Insurance Co., chairman of the board of City National Bank of Fort Smith, chairman of the board of Citizens Bank of Booneville, chairman of the building committee of Barnhill Arena and chairman of Eden Isle Development Corp.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Holly cemetery in Little Rock under the direction of Gross Funeral Home of Hot Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Thomas; two daughters, Gray Langston of Fort Smith and Clare Williams of Hot Springs; a son, Herbert L. Thomas III of Germantown, Tenn; his mother, Ruby Thomas of Little Rock; two sisters, Jane Wilson and Jean Clancy, both of Little Rock; a brother, Jim Thomas of Tuckerman; four granddaughters, Carolyn and Maria Rodriguez-Barbera, Jeannie and Casie Williams; and four grandsons, Joseph Rodriguez-Barbera, Clayton, Nathan and Herbert L. Thomas IV.
