MULDROW — Edna Mae Kelley, 73, of Muldrow died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born March 24, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ark. She was a homemaker and of the Assembly of God faith.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Muldrow. Cremation will be under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by five daughters, Karen of Sallisaw, Brenda of Siloam Springs, Leona of Muldrow, Jenette of Bella Vista, and Bridgette of the home; two sons, Charles of Lincoln and Justin of the home; a sister, Blanche Barnes of Siloam Springs; a brother, Chester Janes of Mayesville; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mary Myers
WALDRON — Mary Frances Myers, 88, of Waldron died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, in a Little Rock hospital. She was a retired elementary teacher in the Waldron Public Schools, was a member of First Baptist Church in Waldron where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was the widow of Ralph Myers.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Waldron First Baptist Church with burial at Duncan cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Fisher of North Little Rock; two sisters, Johnnie Owens and Juanita Hinkle, both of Waldron; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Reggie and Byron Owens, Clyde Kennedy, Jarrod and Jordan Hughes and Wallace Aspinwall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Waldron retired teachers.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home.

James McCormick
BARLING — James McCormick, 74, of Barling died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a S.F.C. Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired heavy equipment operator at Fort Chaffee.
Memorial graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; five daughters, Jackie Williams of Chloride, Ariz., Bobbie Hughes of Silver Springs, Nev., Lana Barnes of Warsaw, Mo., Emily Adamson and Nellie Dreggors, both of Barling; two sisters, Helen Dana of Beaumont, Texas, and Dolly Carpenter of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rev. Cecil Glass
The Rev. Cecil C. Glass, 88, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Fort Smith, a retired Southern Missionary Baptist minister ordained since 1940. He was in civil service at Fort Chafee during World War II, a mechanic for Crouch Equipment Co. and a cub scout master for pack No. 18 in Fort Smith. He was the widower of Eunice Glass.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford.
He is survived by four sons, Danny, Samuel, Charles and Edwin Glass, all of Fort Smith; a sister, Naomi Foote of Dayton; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony, David, Darrell, Charles, Edwin, Samuel and Danny Glass.
Sam L. Thomson
Sam L. Thomson, 72, of Charleston died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born June 30, 1931, in Franklin County to Clyde S. Thomson and Jesse Diezel Thomson. He was a retired real estate broker, owner and operator of Thomson Realty in Charleston and a retired rancher. He was an Air Force veteran of the 
Korean War and a member of the Charleston First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at First United Methodist Church with burial at Hampton cemetery north of Branch under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of the home; two sisters, Ada B. Asher and Jean Laws, both of Fort Smith; a stepsister, Marilyn Price of Barling; and a stepbrother, Tom Pettigrew of Somis, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Ramos, Brian and William Buckner, Marvin Holland Jr., Larry Holland and Mark Gilsinger.

J.V. “Jim” Ward
J.V. “Jim” Ward, 83, of Shoal Creek died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Charleston of natural causes. He was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Shoal Creek. He was born Oct. 5, 1920, in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Katie Potthast Ward; a brother, James Edward Ward; and a son, Ed Ward of Subiaco. He was a graduate of Subiaco Academy, a World War II veteran and a retired dairy farmer and served two terms as Logan County judge.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Scholastica Church in Shoal Creek. Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 at St. Scholastica Church with burial at St. Scholastica cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Julia D. Anhalt Ward of 58 years; a son, Pat Ward and daughter-in-law Carolyn Fox Ward of New Blaine and daughter-in-law Charlotte Eckart Ward of Subiaco; a daughter, Margaret Willems of Paris; nine grandchildren, Becky Ward Kremers, Jamie Ward, Shannon Willems Rogers, Carol Ward Wootton, Josh Willems, Amy Ward Ramsey, Jarrad Ward, Karen Willems and Jacob Ward; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Vera Patterson
Vera Patterson, 83, of Tulsa, formerly a longtime resident of Fort Smith, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Tulsa. She was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Greenwood Junction, Okla., to Charley and Myrtle English Wheeler. She graduated from Roland High School in 1938. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.F. “Pat” Patterson, and her parents, Charley and Myrtle Wheeler.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Tom Patterson and his wife Patty of Maumelle; two daughters, Mary Kelley and her husband Ron of Houston and Patricia Bogle and her husband Brice of Tulsa; two sisters, Pauline Hoffman and Helen Welbern and her husband Wendell, all of Fort Smith; an aunt, Ada Ferguson of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Cyndi Canada of Denton, Texas, Kim Jacobs and Chris Patterson, both of Dallas, Michelle Mould of Lubbock, Texas, Michael Kelley of St. Charles, Mo., and Melissa and Matthew Bogle, both of Tulsa; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Stanfield Hamilton
Stanfield Hamilton, 93, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a retired nurse for Dr. J.F. Kelsey and a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Aldergate Sunday school class. She preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Clyde Hamilton.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Debrah Hardgrave of Fort Smith; two sons, Gary and Jan Hamilton, both of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Shea, Shawn, Tim and Scott Hamilton, Melea McCormick, Wendy Robbins and Alison Underwood; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shea, Shawn, Tim and Scott Hamilton, Brian Robbins and Larry McCormick.

James Roy Hartsfield
James Roy Hartsfield, 77, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Muldrow, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Nashville. He was retired from the state of Arkansas and the Air Force. He was one of the original members of the Arkansas Air National Guard 188th Tactical Fighter Group in Fort Smith. He was a veteran of the Navy, Army Air Corps and Air Force. He was a former member of Eastside Baptist Church in Muldrow. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Elks Lodge and UCT. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post No. 31 and VFW Post 8384. He was preceded in death by his wives, Carolyn Weese Hartsfield and Lessie Farmer Hartsfield.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at White Bluff cemetery with full military honors.
He is survived by a daughter, Vivian Kay Humphries of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Jim Hartsfield of Nashville; a sister, Norma Jean Prescott of Caddo Gap; a brother, Paul R. Hartsfield of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Rachael Hartsfield of Houston, Thomas James Hartsfield of Nashville, Tenn., Jonathan Royce Hartsfield of Nashvile, Tenn., and Valerie Evans of Clarksville, Tenn.; and three great-grandchildren.

Inez Wallis
Inez Wallis, 99, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2003. She was born Nov. 23, 1904, to Ed and Marietta Holloway. Inez moved to Fort Smith where she worked for 40 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Wallis.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Collins Mighton and her husband, Charles of Oklahoma City and Inez Hartley and her husband, Bob of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Cindy Henderson and her husband, Russell, Donna Wilmoth and her husband, Joel, Heather Guthrie and her husband, Tracy, Jennifer Rodgers and her husband, Dan, Doug Hartley and his wife, Christine; seven great-grandchildren, Colby Henderson, Chelsea Henderson, Conner Wilmoth, Chance Wilmoth, Collin Wilmoth, Maya Rodgers and Ian Rodgers.

James H. Neal
James H. Neal, 70, of Dearborn, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 in a Dearborn hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lela Neal of Cedarville. Jim was a 20-year retired master sergeant in the Air Force. He had a master’s degree in counseling from Wayne State University, retired from Heublein Bottling Co., was a 32nd degree Shriner, a 40-year Mason and a substitute teacher for seven years at Dearborn Public Schools.
Funeral service was Dec. 5, 2003, at Howe-Peterson Funeral Chapel in Dearborn, Mich.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye of the home; two sons, Don and wife Nancy, sons James and Richard of Canton, Mich., Robert “Bob” and wife Amy, daughters, Lela and Abbey of Southgate, Mich.; sisters, Clara Graslie of San Jose, Calif., Bonnie Coffey of Yakima, Wash., Irene Gage of Van Buren, Juanita Noble of Cedarville; brothers, Claude Neal of Oklahoma City and Clyde and Earl Leon of Fort Smith.

Irene Willett Cook
Irene Willett Cook, 75, of Fort Smith departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in Oklahoma City and joined our Lord in heaven and her beloved husband of 53 years, James B. Cook. Irene and James were long term residents in Fort Smith. She was born in Keota on Feb. 14, 1928. She moved to Oklahoma City in 2000 to be with family following the death of her husband.
Irene is survived by two daughters, Jimmie Bynum of Oklahoma City and Linda Smith of Conway; three grandchildren, Melissa Jinkens of Midwest City, Okla., Michael Bynum of Keota, and Suki Lin Highers of Fayetteville; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flomarene “Tejoe” Brown of Arkoma.
She worked many years in the furniture business industry in Fort Smith and later assisted her husband in their business, Green Valley Maintenance and Pugpuckers. She derived great joy in gardening and raising Chinese Pugs.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gill cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Family will visit with friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kenneth Frank Cockram
Kenneth Frank Cockram, 83, of Greenwood died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2003, in an automobile accident. He was born in rural England outside the village of Sollihull. He moved as a child with his family to Vermont. He attended Ohio State University where he boxed, competed in track and field and cross-country bike racing. While at Ohio State, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. During World War II, he served as a navigator and pilot in the Pacific Campaign. He was the only surviving member of his Air Corps unit and mourned his fallen comrades throughout his life. After the war, he finished architecture school at Auburn University and then moved to Fort Smith with his wife, Patricia Small Cockram and three children, Pati, Kathleen and Peter. His first job was with Chester Nelson, where he worked with others in the firm on the design of Sparks Hospital. Once in Fort Smith, he and Patricia had three more children, Christeen, Tim and Michael. He designed many churches, schools and motels in the Fort Smith area.
In 1975, Kenneth married
Marizee Flocks. With Marizee, he served as a sponsor of the Fort Smith Dandies (Rodeo Quadrille). He served on the Rodeo Fair board and was a past Grand Marshall of the Arkansas-Oklahoma Rodeo Parade. He rode bicycles, loved boats, and made stained-glass windows and ornaments. But he was perhaps happiest riding the Buffalo River trails on his horse, Joker.
He cared about animals, children and those who needed his help and encouragement. He loved a good joke, a lively party and an attentive audience. He was proud, stubborn, opinionated, honest, warm and loving. He played and worked with interest and enthusiasm. He was completing a Hilton Hotel in St. Petersburg, Fla., at the time of his death. He was asked, at the age of 82, when he would retire. He replied, “When I get old.” That never happened.
Survivors include his wife, Marizee Cockram of Greenwood; three sons, Peter Cockram of Fort Smith, Tim Cockram of Austin, Texas, Michael Cockram of Eugene, Ore.; three daughters, Pati Cockram of New York City, Kathleen Randall of Fayetteville, and Christeen Kline of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Josh Randall of Dallas, Aaron Randall of Fayetteville, Kary Cockram Donahue of Leonard Wood, Mo., Meagan Cockram of Dallas, Samuel Cockram of Fort Smith, Aya Cockram of Eugene, Ore., and Olivia Kline of Fayetteville; and one great-grandchild, Taylor Donahue of Leonard Wood, Mo.; one brother, Fred Cockram of Cleveland; and his horse, Joker of Greenwood.
Services will be Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at 10 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Chapel in Greenwood.

Margaret Welch
OKLAHOMA CITY — Margaret A. Welch, 87, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Muldrow, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003. She was born April 1, 1916, in Muldrow. She was a homemaker and the widow of George Welch Sr.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest United Methodist Church with burial at Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuaries of Oklahoma City.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Irvin and Kay Condren, both of Oklahoma City, and Rebecca Mahoney of Fort Smith; two sons, George Welch Jr. of Tulsa and Joe Welch of Muldrow; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
