Constance “Connie” Massey, 61, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 20, in a local hospital. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Washington cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Seals of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sharon Massey of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Steve Massey of Fort Smith; her mother, Elnora Barnes of Fort Smith; six sisters, Senobia Smith, Hortense Hugle, Jennie Rogers, Sharon Diaz, Marion Atych and Mary Ann Barnes, all of Fort Smith; three brothers, Bennie Brown, James Barnes and Gyy Barnes, all of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ricardo Thompson, Joe Massey, John Woods, Wilbur Whitmake, Curtis Belcher and Moses Williams.
The family will visit with friends at 1320 N. 37th St.
Marie Holmes, 76, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Thornton, Texas. She attended schools in Mexia, Texas. She was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Fort Smith. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church and was a member of Telephone Pioneers, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, James “Jimmy” Holmes of Fort Smith.
Octa Lee Bailes Graham
Octa Lee Bailes Graham, age 83, departed this earth for her heavenly home on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003. She was a homemaker and wife of Erving Graham who preceded her in death. Octa was born Oct. 7. 1919, to Henry and Octa Bailes in Elaine. She married
Erving in 1944 moving from Little Rock to live in Freedom where she and Erving were blessed with three children, Betty, James and a special child from God, Johnny. She was a wonderful mother and loved her family deeply along with her extended church family. She worked diligently in the Lord’s work and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a member of the Freedom Free Will Baptist Church where she served in many different roles for the church for over 50 years. She leaves behind a loving family that cherished and loved her deeply. Betty Newell and husband, Walter of Roland, James and wife, Clydella (CB) Graham of Fort Smith and Johnny of the home; grandchildren, Deanna Bishop, Aaron and Daniel Newell, Jamie Dickson; stepgrandchildren, Dee Newell, Granada Banta, Lynde Newell, Larry “Buddy” Peugh, Emmy Emerson and 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Freedom Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Freedom cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
Pallbearers will be Edmond Brewer, Sonny Tuck, Bobby Bonds, Jerald Hattabaugh, Sam Harvell and Jerry Don Hattabaugh.
Honorary pallbearers will be Arvil “Buddy” Smith, Ed Hines, Lloyd Hattabaugh, Tom Smith and Earnest “Earnie” Gleason.

Jason Matthew Bowlin
Jason Matthew Bowlin, 26, of Centerton, formerly of Alma, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, in Rogers. He was a retired Army sergeant and a member of First Baptist Church in Centerton.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Concord Baptist Church with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with 
military honors by the 188th Air National Guard under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren,
He is survived by his wife, Kristen of the home; his parents, Connie and Dwight Bowlin of Alma; a brother, Jeff Bowlin of Alma; his paternal grandmother, Ruth Bowlin of Mulberry; maternal grandparents, Evelyn and Gen Rambo of Fort Smith; his paternal great-grandmother, Allie Wilbanks of Mulberry.
Pallbearers will be Jerrod Burns, Jeremy Barry, Lee Dailey, Brent Tweedy, Seth Christoffersen and Kyle Burkhart.

Mrs. Bertha Evans DuVall
Mrs. Bertha Evans DuVall, 99, of Van Buren died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in her home.
A funeral service is planned at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren. A graveside service and interment will follow at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
Mrs. DuVall was a life-long resident of Van Buren and the widow of Paul Uri DuVall, also of Van Buren.
She was born on March 29, 1904, to Minnie Sallee Evans and Jess Nathaniel Evans of Mena. She attended 64 School, King School, and later completed one year at Van Buren High School. At the age of 12 in 1916, she joined East Van Buren Methodist Church and maintained a membership in that congregation after it became St. John’s Methodist. After the merger of St. John’s and First Methodist, she attended Heritage Methodist Church; at the time of her death, she held the oldest membership on recond there. She served in several church offices including president of the United Methodist women’s group and communion chairman; she was also a member of the board of stewards.
Mrs. DuVall was a member and past Worth Matron of Fidelity Chapter 86 of the Order of Eastern Star, which she joined in 1942. She was a past president of the ladies auxiliary of the United Transportation Union and a member f the Missouri Pacific Women’s Club and AARP. She worked in the Retired Senior Volunteer program and participated for many years in the Lond Bell Home Demonstration Club. As a young adult, Mrs. DuVall worked for the Flyer Garment Compan in Fort Smith Couch and Bedding. After her youngest child reached high school, she went back to work for the Van Buren School system in the lunch program for the senior high and later Sophia Meyer Elementary.
Mrs. DuVall is survived by one daughter, Frances Ann; one son, Paul David; two grandchildren, Evan DuVall of Van Buren and Sara DuVall Murray of Charloteesville, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Patrick Murray and Samuel DuVall Murray, also of Charlottesville, Va..
She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Parilee Smith, George Evans, Otis Evans, Hazel Watkins, J.N. Evans, Lavelle Evans Garr, a brother, Bobby, who died in early childhood, and a sister, Treva, who died in infancy.
Honorary pallbearers include, Elmo Evans, Louis Garr, Dale Evans, Danny Evans, David Evans, Francis Evans, C.E. Dougan and Don Ray Sangster.

Grace F. Hart, 81, of Fort Smith entered into rest Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was bor Nov. 24, 1921. Grace was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith and a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Neal H. Hart of the home; two daughters, Charlotte Hollis and husband, Joe of Holden, Mo. and Pam Henry and husband, Doug of Fort Smith; a son, Tom N. Hart and wife, Gail of Sherwood; nine grandchildren Tommy Neal Hart Jr., Cindy Summerhill, David Hart, Alicia Grace Neihouse, Brett Henry, Chase Henry, Jacqueline Barbour, Jack Berry and Brent Berry; 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Payton and McKenzie Hart, Lauren and Hayden Summerhill, Evan Neihouse, Jessica and Jacob Berry, Patrick Walters, Seth and Colin Barbour; two sisters, Pat Frank of Fayetteville and Maxine Harrison of Oregon; one brother, the Rev. Nathaniel Mitchell of Reno, Nev. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley A. Mitchell; a brother, Brad Mitchell and sisters, Alnita Taboada and Naomi Ragon. Grace Newton Manes
Grace Newton Manes, 97, of Van Buren passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in Van Buren. She was a forelady for Wortz Biscuit Company in the 1930’s and 1940’s. She was owner of Park Beauty Salon in Fort Smith until her retirement. She was a member a member of South Side Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Herbert Manes, a brother, Isaac “Buster” Newton and a sister, Robbie Evans.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a son, Bob Stroud and his wife, Brightsie of Arnold, Md.; two nieces, cynthia Jordan and Deborah Griffith, both of Greenwood; two nephews, Albert Newton and Gary Newton, both of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shirley Rogers, 79, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, in a local hospital. She was formerly of San Diego. She was a former manager of several apartments and restaurants and was a world class roller skater. She and her husband founded a Baptist Church in Phoenix. She was the widow of George James Rogers. Cremation will be under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Bryan and her husband, Jim of Las Vegas and Jean Beverly Schoch and her husband, Bruce of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Michael George Rogers and his wife, Cyndy of Van Buren and Donald Earle Rogers of Van Buren; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Hazel M. Gentry, 87, of Charleston died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in a Paris hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Paris to Cleve Davis and Emma Pearson. She was a retired nurse¹s aide at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Smith Mortuary Chapel. Her body was cremated under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston. She is survived by a daughter, Billy Sue Davis of Memphis; a sister, Beatrice Caldwell of Mineral Wells, Texas; two brothers, Otis Davis of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Richard Davis of Bella Vista. LODI, Calif. - Shirley Weber, 74, of Lodi, Calif., formerly of Shady Point, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, in Lodi. She was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Shady Point. ALMA - Kristina Louise Zakrzewski, 35, of Alma died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in a Little Rock hospital. She was born March 31, 1968, in Porterville, Calif. Rex Sharp
Rex Thomas Sharp, 84, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a member and past deacon of Wood Memorial Christian Church of Van Buren, a member of Van Buren Chapter No. 3 Royal Arch Masons and Amrita Grotto of Fort Smith, Legionnaire Ellig-Stoufer Post No. 31 (American Legion). He was retired after 38 years with Missouri Pacific as a conductor, was a distinguished member of 75th Ranger Regiment and past national president of Darby Ranger Battalions Association, and served in Philippines and Japan in Ranger¹s 6th Battalion for 15 months. He had an honorary discharge in October 1946 as staff sergeant 6th Ranger Battalion. Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial and military honors at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Delores Cox of Bartlett, Tenn.; a son, Larry Sharp of Brookeland, Texas; a stepdaughter, Hazel Fox of Cameron; a stepson, Stacey Jones of Greenwood; a brother, Norman Sharp of Coffeyville, Kan.; five grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. Ava Jones Morton Francis, 96, of Fort Smith died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born July 31, 1907, in Pottsville. She was credit manager and bookkeeper at Mangels Department Store for 30 years. She was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was church pianist for more than 70 years, and the widow of John Morton and the Rev. D.J. Frances. POTEAU — Michael Anthony Turner, 48, of Poteau died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in his home. He was born Sept. 17, 1955, in Granite City, Ill. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Poteau and a registered nurse.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Greenhill cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; his mother, Lesteen Turner of Arkoma; three daughters, Regina Keeton of Auburn, Wash., Terri Turner of Norman, Okla., and Lyssa Turner of the home; two sisters, Carol Means of Dexter, Mo., and Ruth Foldenauer of Cameron; four brothers, Robert Turner of St. Louis, Mo., Ronald Turner of Conway, Lee Turner of Mena and Tim Turner of Sallisaw; and two grandchildren.

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Dorothy Jane Spaulding Wells, 62, of Muskogee died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, in Muskogee.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Coleman cemetery in Porum, Okla., under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by four sisters, Sharon Wallace of Prattsville, Okla., Evelyn Czinege of Muskogee, Mary McIntosh of Haskell and Linda Spaulding of Stigler; three brothers, Doyle Spaulding of South Carolina, Jerry Spaulding of Muskogee and Joe Spaulding of Tulsa; and one grandchild.

HEAVENER — Ollie Hall, 91, of Heavener died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in her home. She was a longtime resident of Heavener and a member of First United Methodist Church, the church choir, the Wesleyan Guild and the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Ernest Hall.

She is survived by a son, Albert Hall of Heavener; a sister, Mary Flanders of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Leon Gilbreth, 58, of Fort Smith died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a repair technician at Rheem.

He is survived by a son, Mike Gilbreth of Fort Smith; a sister, Barbara Sue; and two grandchildren.
