Ruth Thompson
HEAVENER — Ruth L. Thompson, 92, of Heavener died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in Heavener. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ in Heavener with burial at Proctor cemetery in Proctor under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by a daughter, Miranda Green of Heavener; three sons, Stanley of Checotah, Okla., Franklin of Collinsville, Okla., and James of Dallas; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Phyllis Willis
BLACKGUM — Dr. Phyllis Wynne Willis, 69, of Blackgum died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Oct. 10, 1933, in Sallisaw. She was a retired educator. She was a graduate of Vian High School, received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Okla., and received her doctorate from the University of Tulsa. She was the founder of the Living Literature Center at Northeastern State University. She directed and coordinated literary tours to Europe since 1981. She began her teaching career at Vian Schools in 1957 and at NSU in 1968, where she was an English professor and former department head. She was the college representative for entry-year teachers. She was currently working as a federal programs consultant with Westville Public Schools and had been in that capacity the last five years. She was active in her church and served a an elder at the Community of Christ Church in Blackgum, Okla.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Vian High School Auditorium with burial at Pack Family cemetery in Blackgum under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a daughter, Cynthia Jamison of Sallisaw; a son, Dr. Bill Willis of Poteau; her mother, Cleo Park of Blackgum; a brother, Neal Pack of Blackgum; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry Couch, Trey Weaver and Marc, Coy, John and Paul Willis.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Richard Earley Sr.
HOWE — Richard Dean Earley Sr., 47, of Howe died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in his home. He was the owner and operator of Heavener Poultry Supplies & Services.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Loving cemetery in Heavener.
He is survived by two daughters, Teresa McFarland of Hodgen and Tiffany Cruz of Heavener; two sons, Levi Earley of Heavener and Richard Earley of Loving, Okla.; two sisters, Sue Turner of Braggs, Okla., and Pat Woods of Gentry; two brothers, Henry Earley of Durant, Okla., and Donnie Earley of Springtown; and 10 grandchildren.

Martha Misner
Martha L. Misner, 88, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in her home. She was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Danville, Ill. She was a homemaker and a member of Albert Pike Christian Center.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in Illinois.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Blanton of Plant City, Fla., and Trudy Gray of Seymour, Ind.; two sons, Lyle Misner of Van Buren and John Misner of Leesville, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
The body may be viewed Friday beginning at 8 a.m.
The family will visit with friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Albert Pike Christian Center Building Fund, 2711 N. Albert Pike Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72904.

Ernest Green
MULDROW — Ernest Lee Green, 77, of Muldrow died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in McGehee. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of VFW in Muldrow and the widower of Katherine Green, Ancel Green and Gertie Goins.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cottonwood cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by two daughters, Patsy Winchester of Monticello and Judy Moses of Fayetteville, N.C.; a son, Tommy Green of Cabot; a sister, Rosie Fortune of Mountain View; three brothers, Ancle Green of Hicker Ridge, James Green of Springdale and Tommy Green of Calico Rock; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

James Frizley
GANS — James Edward “Jim” Frizley, 81, of Gans died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in Gans. He was born July 17, 1922, in Sallisaw. He was a 1941 graduate of Sallisaw High School, a retired senior buyer for Flight Safety Co., an electronic company in Tulsa and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Ronda; two daughters, Linda Frazier of Bixby, Okla., and Dyann Storz of Tulsa; two sons, Jimmy and Eddie Frizley, both of Tulsa; a stepdaughter, Mona Shrum of Owasso, Okla.; three stepsons, Mark Stout of Owasso, Okla., and Matt and Mike Stout, both of Catoosa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Trae, Josh and Benjamin Storz, Joseph and Hunter Frazier, Mike and Matt Stout and Alvin Wann.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dottie Planchon
ASHDOWN — Dottie Planchon, 77, of Ashdown died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in Texarkana, Texas. She was born July 13, 1926, in Haileyville, Okla. She was a member of Grant County Women’s Bowling Association and was of the Assembly of God faith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd; a daughter, Karen Tollett of Ashdown; a son, Bruce Springmeyer of Waterford, Calif.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Katie Johnson
DOG CREEK, Okla. — Katie Mae Johnson, 68, of Dog Creek, Okla., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in Stigler. She was born Jan. 31, 1935, in Shawnneetown, Ill.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dog Creek Community Church with burial at Dog Creek cemetery west of Shady Point under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde; a daughter, Melinda Lamberson of Shady Point; two sons, Tim Johnson of McCurtain and James Johnson of Spiro; a sister, Helen Murray of Illinois; a brother, Bedford Roberts Jr. of Illinois; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmie Boling, Ray Nixon and James, Clyde and Tim Johnson.

Archie Lee
Archie Lee, 68, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in a local nursing home. He was an Army veteran, a member of First Baptist Church in Cushing, Okla., where he was a usher and was employed by Checker Transfer and Storage.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a son, Patrick Parks of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Loretta and Anita, both of Cushing, Okla.; two sisters, Joyce Jacobs of Fort Smith and Beverly Quimby of San Jose, Calif.; and a brother, Gregory Lee of Riverside, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Jerry, Bobby and Stanley Lee, Duane Jacobs, H.C. Manning and Gary Reese.
The family will visit with friends at 1706 North 33rd Street in Fort Smith.

Audrey Holloway
DARDANELLE — Audrey Opal Holloway, 90, of Dardanelle, formerly of Alma, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in Dardanelle. She was born April 21, 1913, in Alma. She was the widow of Glen Holloway.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
She is survived by a daughter, Melba McAfee of Van Buren; a son, Bobby Strnad of Dardanelle; and nine grandchildren.

Martha Deaton
POTEAU — Martha Deaton, 92, of Poteau died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, in Muskogee, Okla. She was born Oct. 12, 1910, in Stigler. She was a homemaker.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Howe cemetery in Howe under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Vickers, of Wister, Patsy Steele of Anaheim, Calif., Jimmie Nelson of Palm Desert, Calif., and Faye Flemister of Guttenburg, N.J.; a son, Jackie Deaton of Poteau; three sisters, Opal Cobb and Stella Benson, both of Howe, and Lorene Gipson of Riverbank, Calif.; 25 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Opal Tompkins
Opal Tompkins, 91, of Spiro passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in her home. She was born April 21, 1912, in Walt Hill, Neb. She was a homemaker and a retired secretary for the Butcher’s Union in California. She was a Gold Star mother. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She was cremated with burial at New Hope cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She leaves behind, her daughter, Jan Oller of Spiro; two grandsons, Mike and John Oller, both of Reno, Nev.; a brother Larry Fiscus of Chester, Calif.; and several nieces an nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Jesse Fiscus; a son, Darrell Hirschbach; a sister, Perilda Utuick and a brother, Roy Mefford.

Heather Caitlin Spears
Heather Caitlin Spears, 16, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, in Fayetteville. She was born June 23, 1987, in Springdale to Benny and Karen (Conrow) Spears.
She was a junior at Fayetteville High School where she was a member of the Pom Squad and the Honor Society. She also was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Cotillion, and was a member of the American Heart Association 2003 Sweethearts.
She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Sarah and Hannah Spears; one brother, Matthew Spears, all of the home; her maternal grandparents, Bill and Julie Conrow of Fayetteville; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will he held at the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, from noon until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville with the Revs. J. Anthony Holifield and Greg Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association Sweethearts, 92 W. Sunbridge Dr., Fayetteville, AR 72703 or Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club, 560 Rupple Road, Fayetteville, AR 72703.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home & Crematory of Fayetteville.

Reta Kay Gilyard
Reta Kay Gilyard, 49, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the choir, and she was a self-employed beautician.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at First Missionary Baptist Church with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Butch; a daughter, Shelba of the home; a son, Butch Jr. of Fort Smith; her mother and stepfather, Mary Katherine and David Hall of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Shirl Page of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Bishop, Stanley Releford, Peter LeFevre, Bill Hampton, Neal Brownlow and Michael DeAtley.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Helen Melton
LEACHVILLE — Helen Melton, 87, of Leachville died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, in Monette. She was born in Batesville and was the widow Chester Melton.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with burial at Leachville cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Bracker of Alma and Berta Miller of Lakeland, Fla.; three sons, Yvonne Melton of Jonesboro, Ray Melton of Monette and Tommy Melton of Paragould; a sister, Cleo McAfee of Batesville; two brothers, G.F. Green Jr. of Magness and Tony Green of Sulphur Rock; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
