Doug Hance, 74, of Mountainburg died Sunday, April 13, 2003, in a local hospital. He was retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company and a member of Van Buren Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Van Buren Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Woody cemetery in Rudy under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Hance of the home; two daughters, Carrie Robertson of Alma and Joy Hill of Dyer; two sons, Steve Hance Jr. and Randy Brown, both of Mountainburg; five sisters, Joy Boyce of Oklahoma City, Muriel Suggs and Louise Peters, both of Van Buren, Patsy Brammer of Rudy and Phyllis Dewitt of Mountainburg; a brothers, W.B. Hance Jr. of Pocola; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Randy Brown, Clovis Hance, James Robertson, Larry Hill, Ed Peters, Chris Lasiter and Ricky Brammer.
Jimmy Collyar
Jimmy Collyar, 62, of Fort Smith died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a purchasing agent for J & B Supply, Inc., a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, and an avid fishing, hunting and golfing enthusiast.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Cookie Collyar of the home; a daughter, Tamhra Barnett of Foristell, Mo.; two sons, Ritchey Collyar of Springdale and Michael Collyar of Fayetteville; his mother, Belle Collyar of Fort Smith; a sister, Rose Anne Willey of Fort Smith; three brothers, Johnny Collyar of Lake Charles, La., Herbert Collyar of Fort Smith and Jerry Collyar of Ratcliff; four grandchildren, Hunter and Chandler Collyar, Britni and Brandon Barnett.
Pallbearers will be Steve Jones, Warren Thompson, Clyde Carlisle, Bill Nichols, Steve Cooksey, Michael Malone, Curtis McDonald and Ronnie Coleman.

John Walter Reid
John Walter Reid, 65, of Fort Smith entered into rest Sunday, April 13, 2003, in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1937, in St. Louis, the youngest child of Merritt Cummings and Anthonette Marie Deposki Reid. Mr. Reid was united in marriage on Jan. 14, 1983, to Ms. Jean Sanders. Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Loraine Anthonette Wolfmeyer and Catherine Lillis Nienhaus; a brother, Joseph Allen Reid. John was an independent business man, served in the Army and was an avid fisherman. He was an excellent cook and often served up his fried fish and his fireworks displays at the annual family reunion in Cuba, Mo. Fond and precious memories of Mr. Reid will forever be remembered in the hearts of his dear family and all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Jean of the home; one son, Johnny Reid of Spiro; two stepdaughters, Tammy and Trish Bordman, both of Fort Worth, Texas; three stepsons, Steven Sanders of Van Buren, Frank Sanders of Fort Smith and David Still of Hackett; one sister, Charlotte Marie Baker of Dixon, Mo.; one brother, Merritt Charles Reid of Ferguson, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 32 nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett. Pallbearers will be Chet Doyle, Daryl Standifird, Melvin Robbins, Warren Sharp, Don Brashers and Jeff Francis.
Virgil “Buster” Smith
Virgil “Buster” Smith, 81, of Ozark died Monday, April 14, 2003, in a Ozark hospital. He was a journeyman tool and die specialist for Commercial Steel Heat Treating Company for 24 years.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Sheid Smith of Ozark; two daughters, Maribeth Worthy of Leominster, Mass., and Karen Bradney of Fort Smith; a sister, Bernice Oldfather of Laferia, Texas; a brother, Buddy Smith of California; and a grandson, Michael Worthy of Leominster, Mass.

T.J. Chiles
T.J. Chiles, 83, of Roland died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a retired truck driver for Dixie Cup Corp., a veteran of World War II serving in the Army and he attended the First Baptist Church in Arkoma.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a son, Gary Lynn Chiles of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Zach Wheeler, Herbert Robison, Earl Green, Kenneth Cole, David Redding and Billy Cannon.

Clyde L. McDaniel
Clyde L. McDaniel, 77, of Van Buren passed on Monday, April 14, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was an installer-repairman for Pacific Bell in Medford, Ore. where he retired after 37 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, the VFW Post No. 8845, the DAV Commander’s Club, B.P.O.E. No. 944 of Ashland, Ore., and the Communication Workers of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lydia McDaniel, his brother, Henry McDaniel. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eve; a daughter, Patty and husband, Marty Price of Ratcliff; a son, Russell McDaniel and his wife, Vickie of Van Buren; and three grandchildren, Mandy Helfrich, Bryan McDaniel and Brittany Price.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Van Buren. Graveside service will be at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Steve, Brad, Randy and Mark McDaniel, Mike Jones, Fred Williams and Melvin Brasuell.

Sally Melvina Thompson
Sally Melvina Thompson was born Sept. 22. 1914, rejoined God on March 22, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 1/2 years, H.W. “Bill” Thompson and her son, Edward Wayne Thompson.
She is survived by a daughter, Anita Thompson Lewis of Oklahoma City; a son Billy Eugene Thompson of Dallas; her granddaughter, Denise Renee Thompson of Taft, Okla.; her grandson, Michael Wayne Thompson of McKinney, Texas; her two great-granddaughters, Tara Brittney Thompson and Alyssa Renee Thompson, both of McKinney, Texas; her great-grandson, Matthew Riley Palmer of Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Jean Mixon of Shady Point and Islrea Jordan of Poteau; a brother, Jerry Kiger of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Service was held March 26, 2003, at Baggerley Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Entombment following at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Midwest City, Okla.
Thomas Jefferson Giesler
Thomas Jefferson Giesler, 93, of Muldrow died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in Sallisaw. He was a retired carpenter and minister and was a member of Weslyn Holiness Church.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Muldrow Memory Gardens.
He is survived by two daughters, Pat Giesler of Oklahoma City and Frances and husband, Herman Roberts of Muldrow; four sons, Robert and wife, Peggy Giesler of Oklahoma City, Jack Giesler of Sapulpa, Okla., Tommy and wife, Mildred Giesler of Sallisaw and Paul and wife, Sue Giesler of Eufaula, Okla.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Frances Davis Still
Frances Davis Still, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at home. She was the pastor of the Church of the Pines. She was born in 1943, in Alexandria, La. She graduated from Mabelvale High School in Little Rock. The Rev. Still received a Bachelor’s degree in social work from UALR, a master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas and a theology degree from the Light of Christ Seminary. She was ordained in 1987. She also received an associate’s degree in law enforcement from Westark College.
She was instrumental in establishing the Arkansas Social Work Board and served as its chairman. She was also instrumental in creating the Community Clearinghouse, the Juvenile Intake Center, Peace Makers, Community Solutions in Progress and the Human Services Program at Westark, serving as its first executive director. She helped establish the Sebastian and Crawford County Welfare Reform Program and the Community Dental Clinic, for which she was awarded a Point of Light by President George Bush.
She received the Golden Deeds Award from the Fort Smith Exchange Club and the Woman of the Year Award from the Fort Smith Business and Professional Women.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Eugene F. Still II, a son and daughter-in-law, Fontaine and Melissa Still; and a grandson, Eugene Fontaine Still IV; two sisters, Marguerite Oliver and Judy Davis; three brothers, Rogers, Sheldon and David Davis.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

Ellen L. Heuett, 77, of Fort Smith died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Christian Church in Spickard, Mo.

William Freeze
William B. Freeze, 85, of Fort Smith died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a retired Army sergeant major and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He served on the board of directors for the Community Clearing House and a member of the First Lutheran Church where he was and elder, former chairman of the congregation, serving on the board of finance and as chairman of the Social Ministries.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; two stepson, Robert Bahr of Stillwater, Okla. and Bill Bahr of Houston; a sister, Estellene Roberson of Puebelo, Colo.; two brothers, Robert Freeze of Texarkana, Texas and Herbert Freeze of Houston; and eight grandchildren.

Dr. Edwin G. Dooley, 76, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired dentist and businessman. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Sigma Alpha Eplison Fraternity and an Army veteran.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Alma City cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Gurlen of Fort Smith; a son, Edwin Dooley Jr. of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.

Alfred McDonald
SALLISAW — Alfred Herschel McDonald, 96, of Sallisaw died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Sallisaw. He was born Dec. 6, 1906, in Mountainburg. He was a school teacher, retired after 37 1/2 years, taught at Prices Chapel, Old Mashon and Short Schools, was principal at Sallisaw Liberty for 30 years, a 36-year member of First Christian Church in Sallisaw, was an elder for 10 years, a Sunday school teacher for 10 years, was a 1925 graduate of Sallisaw High School and received bachelor’s degree in education from Northeastern State University and master’s degree in education from Oklahoma State University. He was a life member of Oklahoma Education Association and National Education Association and a member of Retired Educators Association and Sequoyah County Historical Society. He was the widower of Grace McDonald.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by two sons, Donald McDonald of Sallisaw and Fred McDonald of Alma; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Paul Watie, Cecil Cotney, John Holt, Earl Strebeck, Lloyd Jackson, Segal Rogers, Don Robertson and Doyle Reed.

PARIS — Loretta Thompson Reed, 68, of Paris died Monday, April 14, 2003, in her home.

She is survived by her husband, Franklin; five daughters, Victoria Akin and Tonya Moore, both of California, Kathiron Jones of Paris, Carol Moore of Mountain View and Patty; three sons, James, Gary and Billy Reed, all of California; two sisters, Betty Montoya and Corina Reel, both of California; 33 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
