MULBERRY — Jessica Lynn Carter, 12, of Mulberry died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in her home. She was born April 12, 1990, in Fort Smith. She was a student and cheerleader at Ozark Junior High School and a member of Church of Christ in Mulberry.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at Mulberry Church of Christ with burial at Rankin cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She is survived by her parents, Bruce Carter of Mulberry and Teresa Davis of Alma; three sisters, Kathren Carter of Alma, Amy Wilson of Van Buren and Sunny Davis of Kansas; a brother, Bruce Carter Jr. of the home; and her grandmother, Louise Carter of Ozark.

Arthur Vervack
Arthur V. Vervack, 75, of Fort Smith died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Westmont, Ill. He was a retired vice president of personnel for Spark Regional Medical Center, a Navy veteran and a member of Victory Temple. He was the widower of Doris Vervack.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane Colton of Seminole, Fla., and Carol Zillmer of Glenmoore, Pa.; two sons, Paul Vervack of Boling Brook, Ill., and Dave Vervack of Westmont, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Paul, Dave and Jim Vervack, Scot Vieth and Mike and Roger McGuin.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Clarence Beachem
POCOLA — Clarence “Lightning” Beachem, 75, of Pocola died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran during the 
Korean War.
Funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church in Pocola with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by four daughters, Ollie Lee of Fort Smith, Aurelia Beachem of Pocola, Almetia Mannings of Orlando, Fla., and Shirley Beachem of Florida; a son, Clarence Jr. of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Marvin and Malcolm McFerren, both of Spiro; four sisters, Lula Holmes, Medora Allen, Elzora Massey and Barbara Lee, all of Pocola; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Duran Delt, Gerald Beachem, Steven Taylor, Alvin Green, Ricardo Thompson, Joe Massey, Earl Shepard and Mark Gordon.
The family will visit with friends at 404 Clark Avenue in Pocola.

OZARK — Jerry Edward Flaherty, 52, of Ozark died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1951, in Spiro.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peeveehouse cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Flaherty of Ozark; 11 sisters, Brenda Phillips of Hunt, Gloria Bartsch of Subiaco, Linda O’Kula of Las Vegas, JoAnn McMasters of Blue Mountain, Kathy Jackson of Ozark, Mary Moore of Clarksville, Angela Predmore, Molly Brixie, Otta Ruston, and Polly Henslee, all of Alexander, and Doris Calhoun of California; five brothers, Lewis Flaherty of Lamar, Truman Flaherty of Coal Hill, Jackie Flaherty of Altus, Steven Flaherty of Lavaca and Thomas Flaherty of Scranton.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bartsch, Harold Phillips, Doyle Bowman, Randy Henslee, Ricky Jackson and Phillip Brixie.
Honorary pallbearers will be brothers and nephews.

Billy Crabtree
OZARK — Billy Howard Crabtree, 72, of Ozark died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Coal Hill. He was a retried master sergeant in the Air Force and attended Ozark First Assembly of God. He was the widower of Margaret Crabtree.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark.
He is survived by three daughters, Rita Perry of Van Buren, Regina McElhaney of Ozark and Rowena Anderson of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Hortense Peterson of Fresno, Calif., and Francis Ellis of Tulsa; six brothers, Robert, Lloyd, Charles, Ronnie, Jerry and Darrell Crabtree, all of Porterville, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James and Lonnie Perry, Nathan McElhaney, Lloyd Rausher, Randy Bowman, Dan Anderson, Jimmy Pledger and Paul Turner.

Joe Ann Carter
Joe Ann “Jody” Carter, 77, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the widow of Harvey Carter.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial Wednesday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Joan Culpepper and Daisy Eubanks, both of Fort Smith, and Mary Baggett of Rudy; two sons, Brooks Carter of Salt Lake City and Dale Carter of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 8 a.m. until noon today at the funeral home.

Mary Joyce
Mary Brandall Joyce, 89, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in her home. She was born April 21, 1913, in Fairfield, Iowa. She was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church for more than 50 years where she taught Sunday school, was granted a life membership in the Women’s Society of Christian Service and was a homemaker.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Goddard United Methodist Church under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, L.A.; two daughters, Nancy Matlock of Edmond, Okla., and Linda Laughlin of Dallas; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Loretta Ann Seibold
Loretta Ann Seibold, 78, of Barling entered into rest Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Morrison’s Bluff, the first child of the late Henry and Frances (Seiter) Weisenfels. Loretta married
Herman Joseph Seibold Jr. of Massard on June 6, 1949. The couple was married
for 51 years, until Herman’s death on Jan. 3, 2001.
They had seven children, Danny, Mike and Jerry, all of Barling, Tony and his wife Shelly of Fort Smith, Patty and Helen Seibold, both of Fort Smith, and Linda Starr and her husband Marvin of Greenland; and two grandchildren, Lori and Anna Starr of Greenland. Siblings include one sister, Cecelia Alatore, and three brothers, Andy Weisenfels and his wife Mary and Al Weisenfels and his wife Lula, all of Fort Smith, and Ed Weisenfels and his wife Rosemary of Greenwood. Loretta is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Rich and Dorothy Jones, both of Barling, five nephews and 11 nieces.
Loretta was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Barling, the Mother’s Society, the Catholic Women’s Union and the St. Anne’s Sodality. She was a devoted wife and mother and held her faith and family in high regard. She was a retired cook and housekeeper. Her hobbies included quilting, needlework and cooking. Loretta’s loving, sweet nature was a blessing to all who knew her.
Services will be officiated by the Rev. Henry Mischkowiuski at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, with funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. today. Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery in Fort Chaffee under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will include Jack Madden, Tim Weisenfels, Doug Lensing, James Strobel, Paul Rivaldo and Steve Core.
Honorary pallbearers will include Betty Becker, Larry and Agnes Elser, Theresa and Jack Haaser, Lynn Meeks, Edwina Schwarz, Helen and David Sharum, Ed and Rose Smetanka, Penny Smith, Dick and Peggy Spears, Von Strobel and Loretta Weindel.

Ray Leo “Hoss” Martin, 76, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in his home. He was born May 22, 1926, in Massard. He was a saddle maker and wood worker.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Moore of Coffeeville, Kan., Lydia Martin of Lebanon, Tenn., and Gale Martin of California; four sons, David Martin of Coffeeville, Kan., Daniel Martin of Guild, Tenn., William and Shawn Martin, both of California; two sisters, Mary Prine and Bernice Bates, both of Fort Smith; a brother, Billy Martin of Portland, Ore.

Kathleen Wingfield, 82, of Magazine died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Magazine. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Magazine and a loving wife of 65 years.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Magazine with burial at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by her husband, V.J. Wingfield of Magazine; a sister-in-law, Ola Rea Mikles of Booneville; a brother, Oland H. Baucum Jr. and wife, Agnus of Kingston, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Virginia “Ginger” Brasuell
Mrs. Virginia “Ginger” Brasuell, 72, of Whittier, Calif., formerly of Sallisaw, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Whittier. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Herman Brasuell. Mrs. Brasuell was a retired library clerk with the South Whittier School District, in Whittier, Calif. Mrs. Brasuell also loved reading, travel, and her children and grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday in Whittier, Calif. Burial will be at a later date at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Terri Chelgrin and Nina Brasuell, both of Whittier, Calif., and Susan Neighbors of Carson City, Nev.; a sister, Judy Francis of Belleville, Kan.; four brothers, Gene Francis of Mission, Kan., Dick and Scott Francis, both of Belleville, Kan., and Paul Francis of Paola, Kan.; three grandchildren, Michelle and Christy King, both of Whittier, Calif., and Kelly Garcia of Beaufort, S.C.; and one great-grandchild, Brooke Villalobos of Whittier, Calif.
Sonja Moore
Sonja Moore, 60, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in her home. She was an employee of Whirlpool Corporation and attended Faith Tabernacle Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Shamrock cemetery near Cove City.
She is survived by her husband, John Moore of the home; a daughter, Peggy Aldridge of Van Buren; two sons, James and David Moore, both of Van Buren; five sisters, Juanita McCaleb of Rochester, Minn., Maxine Wiley of Natural Dam, Norma Corbett of Choteau, Okla., Betty Peterson of Salinas, Kan., and Barbara Edwards of Cedarville; two brothers, Hubert Evans of Cedarville and Donnie Evans of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Alicia Gage, Christina, Cliff and Mary Aldridge, Tara Moore, Bradley and Jonathan Moore.
Pallbearers will be Paul Moore, Art Corbett, Jonathan and Kevin Hicks, Gerry Edwards, Barry Wilson and Marlin Evans.

Billy Gene Sweeten
Billy Gene Sweeten, 61, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, at his residence in Lufkin. He was born July 9, 1941, in Rock Island, the son of Jim M. and Elizabeth Shaw Sweeten.
Mr. Sweeten was retired from the maintenance department of Lufkin Industries and had also worked for Otasco Motor Company. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett.
Survivors include his special companion, Lottie Courtney of Lufkin; one daughter, Rose Ann Permenter and husband, Billy of Spiro; three sons, Brian Keith Sweeten and wife, Cathlene of Spiro, Duane Edward Sweeten of Poteau and Harlin Daniel Sweeten and companion, Michelle of Spiro; one brother, Oscie Luther Sweeten of Shady Point; two sisters, Ruby Bell Minks of Pocola and Susie Nancy Ellen Newman of Fort Smith; special sister-in-law, Bessie Sweeten of Bonanza; 10 grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
