Roy Blackwell
WALDRON — Roy Lee Blackwell, 81, of Waldron died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at a Fort Smith hospital.
He was a retired construction worker and a veteran of World War II. He attended Winfield Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home in Waldron.
He is survived by a daughter, Gail Vaughn of Waldron; three sons, Ray Blackwell and Jerry Blackwell, both of Oklahoma, and Roy Blackwell of California; and eight grandchildren.
Johnny Kimbrell
TULSA — Johnny L. Kimbrell, 57, of Tulsa died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in Tulsa.
He was born March 11, 1945, in Rock Island and was a laborer.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ellis Chapel cemetery in Wister under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
He is survived by a sister, Lola Dean Kimbrell of Hartshorne, Okla.; and two brothers, Jimmy Kimbrell of Tulsa and Gary Kimbrell of Tallahassee, Fla.
Hurman Robertson
MAGAZINE — Hurman Otto Robertson, 86, of Magazine died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in his home.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on the Farm Bureau board. He was a World War II veteran where he served in the Army amphibians.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God in Magazine with burial at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Billie; three daughters, Amelia Robertson Hill of Conroe, Texas, Joyce Robertson Smith of Pocola, and Velma Robertson McNerlin of Austin; a brother, Leo Robertson of Plainview, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Staton, Tom Staten, Stanley Beck, Boots Goodwin, Bill Westmoreland, Clell Garman and Alvin Gartman.
Clyde Burrow
MULBERRY — Clyde Burrow, 84, of Mulberry died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in a Little Rock hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1918, on Arbuckle Island and was a former General Motors employee in California.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Dyer cemetery Arbor with burial at Dyer cemetery in Dyer under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.
He is survived by a sister, Geneva Ricester of Wenatchee, Wash.
Thelma Stinnett
MENA — Thelma Mae Stinnett, 82, of Mena died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in Mena.
She was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Tulsa. She was a real estate agent and the widow of Isam Stinnett.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home with burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Ellen Stinnett, Floye McCary and Delma Craig; a son, Gary Stinnett; seven brothers and sisters, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Janet Moseby
ALTUS — M. Janet Moseby, 89, of Bethesda, Md., formerly of Altus, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in Bethesda.
She was a homemaker and a Roman Catholic.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s cemetery in Altus under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She is survived by a son, C. Torrence Horan of Bethesda.
Flossie Willis
HACKETT — Flossie Willis, 92, of Hackett died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at a Fort Smith hospital.
She was a retired cook for the Hackett Schools and of the Assembly of God faith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett.
She is survived by five daughters, Doris Cain of Rock Island; Pat Bollinger of Rock Island; Louise Owens of Hackett; Betty Holt of Midland; and Anna Mae Slavens of Hackett; and 20 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed today from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Everett Isom
MENA — Everett L. Isom, 74, of Mena died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in Mena.
He was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Scott County. He was a factory worker.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Union Mission Pentecostal Church with burial at Nunley cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; two daughters, Linda Ashcraft of Mena; and Sue Rogers of Irving, Texas; a sister, Fern Yandell of Waldron; and three grandchildren.
Doris Shippey
POTEAU — Doris L. Shippey, 81, of Wister died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in Poteau.
She was born May 12, 1921, in Wister. She was a retail clerk and a member of the First Church of the Nazerene on Poteau.
She was the widow of Eben L. Shippey.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Church of the Nazerene in Poteau with burial at Oakland cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
She is survived by a son, Taylor Shippey of Moore, Okla.; two sisters, Eva Lee West of Ada, Okla., and Geraldyne Hammons of Wister; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Eula Stephens
Eula Lenora Stephens, 86, of Van Buren died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at a local hospital.
She was retired from Radiant Glass Company, a homemaker and the widow of Odis Stephens.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcella Horton of Fort Smith and Gina Lunsford of Van Buren; a son, Burl Stephens of Ozark; three sisters, Betty Fouty of Wenatchee, Wash.; Helen Rose of Kerrville, Texas; and Mary Monteza of Holland, Mich.; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mary Cobb
Mary Ellen Cobb, 91, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at a local hospital.
She was born Oct. 28, 1911, in Clarksville. She was a homemaker, a member of New Bethel Assembly of God and the widow of Clyde M. Cobb.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethel Assembly of God in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Carrington of Fort Smith; and a sister, Marie Loftin of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Herman Elkins Jr., Bill Reather and Darrell Loftin.
Leon Cheeks
Leon Roosevelt Cheeks, 59, of Fort Smith died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in a Fayetteville hospital.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Pine Bluff and a retired veteran of the Air Force.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at First Missionary Baptist Church with burial with full 
military honors at the National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann; a son, Bryan Leon of Fort Smith; a sister, Roma Jean Moss of Pine Bluff; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be William E. Haynes, Robert H. Haynes, Allonzo D. Cheeks, Darryl Cheeks, Roland C. Moss and Colyn O. Moss.

Clarence Davis
CENTRAL CITY — Clarence B. Davis, 94, of Central City died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002 in a nursing home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1908, in Milam, Mo. He was a retired employee of First Federal, an Army veteran, a member of Barling First Freewill Baptist Church, a cattleman and farmer and the widower of Marie Davis.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Central Freewill Baptist Church in Central City with burial at Barling City cemetery in Barling under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.
He is survived by a daughter, Elwanda McAlister of Central City; a son, Clarence Larry Davis of Harrison; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ken Bowden, Pete McGuire, David McGuire, John McAlister, Sonny Jeffcoat and Everett Butler.
Mary Simons
VIAN — Mary Simons, 86, of Vian died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in Vian.
She was a shipyard welder in Portland, Ore., during World War II and a retired hostess at restaurants, hotels and casinos around the country. She was a Baptist.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blackgum First Baptist Church in Blackgum with burial at the National cemetery in Fort Gibson, Okla., under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; a son, Merlin Plew of Blackgum; a stepdaughter, Loura Mae Simons of Beebe; two stepsons, Donald L. Simons of Blackgum, and Bobby Simons of Swartz Creek, Mich.; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ford Campbell, Norman Spencer, Boots young, Donald Robertson, Bob Robertson and Buddy Croslin.
The Body may be viewed today from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cecil E. Venable
SPRINGDALE — Cecil E. Venable, 81, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in Springdale. He was born May 1, 1921, in Summers to John and Wilma Venable and was the eldest of their two sons. Cecil graduated from Central High School in Muskogee, Okla., in 1939. Cecil proudly served his country during World War II in the North African campaign and was also called to serve during the
Korean War.
Cecil spent more than 40 years working as an optician, primarily for American Optical in both Muskogee and Fort Smith. Many of his business contacts became and have remained close friends. Cecil’s hobbies over the years included automobiles, model trains, hunting, fishing, woodworking, attending airshows, and piloting and building radio-controlled airplanes. Many more close friends were made during his years of membership in the Flightmaster’s Club.
Cecil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Wanda, whom he married
Aug. 4, 1950. He is survived by their son John and daughter-in-law Charli of Springdale; four honorary grandchildren, Casey Beshears of Salem, Ore., Garth and Kristina Goodwin of Fayetteville and Colton Porter as well as Wanda’s nieces. He is also survived by many friends and neighbors.
Pallbearers will be Allen Walzer, Tom Schmitt, Steve Porter, Harold Wille, Dr. Steven Stiles and Dr. Larry Grace. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Black and Kenny Roberds.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery. Family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
