Imogene Gant
Imogene Gant, 86, of Van Buren entered into rest Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Beth Harwood of Fort Smith; a son, Paul D. Gant of Van Buren; seven grandchildren, Joe D. Schoolcraft of Owasso, Okla., Jean Schoolcraft Hunt of Greensboro, N.C., Judy Schoolcraft Parson of Grapevine, Texas, Jim Schoolcraft of Maumelle, Kyle Harwood of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kristen Harwood Arrington of Allen, Texas, and Kimberly Gant Griffin of Waco, Texas. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alice Margaret Schoolcraft and one son, Zed George Gant. Her loving husband of 65 years, H. Zed Gant died just a few weeks ago on Jan, 13, 2002.
Edith Imogene Farabough Gant was born on April 17, 1915, in Rogers, the daughter of George and Jessie Alice Farabough. She attended Trinity University in San Antonio and the University of Arkansas. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Crawford County Historical Society. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served for many years with the bereavement committee. Her life was devoted to giving of herself to family and those in need.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Joe D. and Jim Schoolcraft, Kyle Harwood, Earl Robinson, Mike Hurst, Gene Bell, Butch Love and Jimmy Riddle.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult No. 7 Sunday school class of the Van Buren First Baptist Church.
Charles S. Mankin
Charles S. Mankin, 86, a life time resident of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Rogers. He was a retired vice president branch manager of First Federal Savings & Loan, former vice president of Yoes Printing & Lithograph, a member of First Baptist Church, 33rd degree Mason, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 755, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, the Fort Smith Christian Business Men’s Committee, a Navy veteran of World War II, Navy Seabees, Boatswains Mate 1st class with 24th Special Battalion Stevedores and a Fort Smith City Commissioner who served 2 1/2 terms from 1954 to 1962.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee; a daughter, Lucinda Lee Marvin of Jacksonville; a son, Steve Mankin of Rogers; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Aaron, Jason and Kyle Mankin, Dan Marvin, Gary Brooks and Paul Gean.

Lucille Milliken
Lucille Milliken, 86, of Little Rock, expired Thursday, March 7, 2002. She was born June 17, 1915, in Abbott to John M. Lile Sr. and Alice Lee Lile. Her first job in high school was as a telephone operator in Mansfield. A niece fondly remembers sitting in her lap being allowed to pretend she was an operator too. She graduated from Draughm’s Business College in Fort Smith. After business college she worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for the federal government during World War II. In that occupation, she traveled with a company building Army developments. There she met her husband, James W. Milliken. They moved to Texarkana and they both were employed for many years for Tex-Ark Rock Wool Manufacturing Company. She was president of a garden club there. She moved to Little Rock in 1990. Lucille was the chairperson for recreational activities for the United Methodist Women at St. James United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was very active in the UMW and held numerous positions in the Methodist Church. Even in her later years, Lucille volunteered each Wednesday to assist with the church paper, getting the papers folded and stamped. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was very talented in drawing and painting.
Preceded in death by her husband, in September 1962, James W. Milliken; her parents, John M. Lile Sr. and Alice Lee Lile; a brother, Paul Lile; two sisters, Judy Vest and Johnnie Sullinger; and a nephew, David Allen. She is survived by two sisters, Pauline Hunnicutt of Little Rock and Ruth Allen of Fort Smith; a brother, J.M. Lile Jr. of Germantown, Tenn.; eight nieces and nephews, Sue Hill, Larry and Bob Vest, Judy Houser, Tom Sullinger, Matt Lile, Lori Wisnewski and Margaret Hurley; a number of great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside gathering in remembrance of Lucille will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Sullinger, John Houser, Matt and Brent Lile and Jonathon Lindsay. Visit www.legacy.com to sign the online guestbook.

Emile Strohmeyer
Emile Strohmeyer, 82, of Mountainburg died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, Services will be held 3 p.m. today in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren.
Mr. Strohmeyer was born Oct. 17, 1919, Waynoka, Okla. He was a lifelong cowboy and rancher. Emil was an active member in the armed forces and lived most of his life in New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Pollena Hager Strohmeyer, three sisters, Erma Knox, Florence Lahr and Vonnie Stone, also by three brothers, Homer, Fenton and Maunt Strohmeyer.
Survivors include his wife, Bennie of the home; three daughters, Barbara Walker and husband, Billy of Roswell, N.M., Peggy Boyd and husband, L.D. of Mountainburg and Billie DiNicola and husband, John of Orange, Conn.; two granddaughters, Heather Boyd of Van Buren and Hollie Robertson and husband, Ryan of Alma; a grandson, Ben Walker and wife, Lauren of Albuquerque, N.M.; a great-granddaughter, Katlin Sheperd of Van Buren; a sister, Bonnie “Babe” Barker of Waynoka, Okla.; six nieces and two nephews and a devoted friend, Guy Bowers of Palm Springs, Calif.
E.R. “Pete” Bennett
E.R. “Pete” Bennett, 87, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in Fort Smith. He married
Fruanna Fraser on Dec. 26, 1945. He was a great fisherman, champion domino player and full of wisdom and love for his friends and family. He served in the Bushmasters as an Army captain in World War II, retired as vice president for Fraser Construction Company and was a 40-year member of Goddard United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Goddard United Methodist Church with burial at Forest Park cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Michael and Luke Bennett, Keith Stewart, Wain Ryel, Tom McAlister and Eddie Parks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Men’s Bible class and the Thursday Disciples Bible Study class at Goddard United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fruanna; and a daughter, Betsy Ryel; a grandson, Pete Allan Bennett.
He is survived by two sons, Kyle Bennett of Fort Smith and Mike and his wife, Norene Bennett of Phoenix; a son-in-law, Gary Ryel of Rogers; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several beloved nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends from all walks of life.
Family will visit with friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Martha Jane Frye, 85, of Bella Vista died Monday, March, 4, 2002, in Bentonville. She was a secretary for Prudential Insurance Company in Kansas City for 28 years.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Doris Bradley of Tulsa; three nephews, David and his wife, Sharon Frye of Fort Smith, Stephen and his wife, Susan Frye of Tulsa and Ron Frye of Baraboo, Wis.; five great-nieces and nephews.

CLARKSVILLE — J.B. “Bill” Houston, 74, of Clarksville died Friday, March 8, 2002, in his home. He was born March 9, 1927, in Clarksville. He was a member of Clarksville Church of Christ and an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He formerly worked for Karstetter & Glass Body Shop in Fayetteville for 28 years and was employed by Nite Lite for several years.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Clarksville Church of Christ with burial at Stillwell cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Stamps Houston; two daughters, Donna Nichols of Saudi Arabia and Debra Briggs of Hamilton, Mont.; and three grandchildren, Matthew and Hayli Briggs, both of Hamilton, and Derek Nichols of Saudi Arabia.

Bonnie Foarde
Bonnie Ann Foarde, 46, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 9, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a physical therapy assistant and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. She graduated with honors in July 1999 from Carl Albert State College with an associate of applied science degree and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
Funerals will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith and 11 a.m. Friday in Christian Reform Church in Cedar, Iowa, with burial at Fremont cemetery in Fremont, Iowa. Arrangements are by Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith and Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, Jan; a son, Ryan Beadle of Fort Smith; her father, Marvin Vander Schaaf of Fremont; a sister, Linda Thorpe of Phoenix; and a grandchild, Hailey Beadle of Fort Smith.

CLARKSVILLE — Gilbert Willis, 93, of Clarksville died Saturday, March 9, 2002, in an area hospital. He was a retired farmer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Mount Vernon cemetery in Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Willis; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann and Laudell Fetters of Clarksville; a grandchild, three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two nieces and several nephews.

OZARK — Otha Mae Keith, 79, of Ozark died Saturday, March 9, 2002, in Ozark. She was a homemaker and a member of Webb City Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark.
She is survived by a son, Jackie Keith of New Blaine; three sisters, Claudia Gough of Fresno, Calif., Pauline Roberts and Elminah Thomas, both of McAlester, Okla.; two brothers, Rufus Tolbert of McAlester and Vernon Tolbert of Plano, Texas; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gaylon Walker
COQUILLE, Ore. — Gaylon Scott Walker, 82, of Coquille, Ore., formerly of Greenwood, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in his home. He was born March 21, 1919, in Hector. For the last ten years, he had been a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coquille and was a former member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood.
He enlisted in the Army Feb. 11, 1941, and was a member of the 31st Infantry stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He was captured on the island of Bataan, was a participant in the Bataan Death March and was later transported to Japan, where he remained a prisoner of war for 3 1/2 years. He retired from the Postal Service in Fort Smith and was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Lulu of Coquille; two daughters, Deborah Lamz of North Lauderdale, Fla., and Vanessa White of Hartford; a stepdaughter, Luanne Brown of Oregon; two sons, Joe Walker of Fort Smith and Vince Walker of Irving, Texas; four stepsons, Sydney Jensen of Fayetteville, N.C., and Steven Cupernall, Rodney Smith and Roy Reid, all of Oregon; two brothers, Ray Walker of Trumann and Edward “Hink” Walker of Mountain Home; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
There will be no public viewing.

Charles F. Ewing, 73, of Fort Smith died Friday, March 8, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born May 30, 1928, in Springdale. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Bill Harris Construction, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a member of First Church of God in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; five daughters, Gayle McKeown and Teri Shure, both of Alma, Joie Fields of Arkoma, Barbara Parks of Columbia, S.C., and Glenda Meredith of Lavaca; three sisters, Sally Barker of Fort Smith, Velma Acord of Poteau and Loretta Adams of Wister; three brothers, Thell of San Angelo, Texas, Keith of Millington, Ill., and Bill of Fort Smith; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Turnbow
CHARLESTON — Ruby Turnbow, 92, of Charleston died Saturday, March 9, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1909, in Altus. She was of the Missionary Baptist faith.
Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Parks cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.
She is survived by a daughter, Faye Harrower of Charleston; a son, Delbert Turnbow of Victorville, Calif.; two sisters, Erma Jones of Tulsa and Blanche Rackley of Enid, Okla.; a brother, Jess Jackson of Muskogee, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jay and Cecil Harrower, Gary Magby, Ron Sarten, Gary McAllister and Brandon Magby.

Janie Crayton Hughes, 47, of Fort Smith, formerly of Melrose, Mass., died Saturday, March 9, 2002, in her home. She was a retired lead electronic operator for Compensated Devices Inc. of Melrose, Mass. She was a 1973 graduate of Southside High School and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith.
A life celebration and Christian wake will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith. The body was cremated.
She is survived by a sister, Julia Young of Van Buren; two brothers, John and Jeffrey Crayton, both of Fort Smith; a niece, Jennifer Neel, and a great-niece, Annabelle J. Neel, both of Crested Butte, Colo.
