Mr. Kenneth Hogan

Mr. Kenneth Hogan, 88, of Newport died Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at Searcy. He was born October 7, 1921 at Magness, the son of Alfred Williamson and Tina (Lawhon) Hogan. Mr. Hogan was a self made man, and owner/operator of Hogan’s Dairy Queen in Newport. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and of the Neil Griffin Post #47 American Legion. Mr. Hogan was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II. He enjoyed horses and trail riding, reading and studying the Bible, and watching sports. His greatest enjoyment came from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by Eloise (Freeze) Hogan; three brothers, Griff Hogan, Alfred Hogan, Jr., and Ruff Hogan; two sisters, Martha Marlar and Virgie Lee Troy; and a son-in-law, Stanley Strickland. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Hopkins and husband Gary of Newport and Gail Strickland of Searcy; one brother, Edward Hogan of Missoula, Montana; four grandchildren, Kim Viebrooks and husband Jason, Kyle Strickland and wife Eran, Jill Hatcher and husband Brishan, and Josh Strickland; and eight great-grandchildren, Katherine Viebrooks, Olivia Viebrooks, Mary Elizabeth Viebrooks, Isabella Strickland, Sophia Strickland, Alaina Strickland, Jorga Hatcher, and Dagan Hatcher.
Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is Friday, 2:00 p.m. until service time.

Mr. Homer Dunn
October 11, 1911 - September 05, 2010
Mr. Homer E. Dunn, 98, of Newport died Sunday, September 5, 2010. He was born October 11, 1911 at Centerville, Arkansas, the son of William Elijah and Lafa Ella (Hunter) Dunn. Mr. Dunn was owner and operator of Dunn’s Grocery Store in East Newport for thirty-two years, and had been a foreman at the Newport button factory. He was a member of the Umsted Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Dunn counted Jackson County votes, and enjoyed working outside and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eulah Elizabeth (Cooper) Dunn; one daughter, Pat Roberts; his parents; and two sisters, Pauline Hohn and Juanita Burgess. Mr. Dunn is survived by one son, Charles “Buddy” Dunn of Newport; one daughter, Betty Denham of Florida; one nephew, L.G. Foster; fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Robbie L. Cash

Mrs. Robbie L. Cash of Lubbock, Texas died Saturday, September 4, 2010. She was born June 13, 1922 in Sulphur Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert D. and Elizabeth Bolin. She married Mr. Virgil Cash on December 6, 1947 and they shared fifty-four years together. Mrs. Cash was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, and enjoyed sewing, gardening, and taking care of her dogs, Lacee and Sugar. She was a homemaker, seamstress, and a custom drapery maker. Mrs. Cash worked in Jacksonville, Arkansas making munitions during World War II. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Cash in 2001; her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Bolin; five sisters, Clara Cash, Hazel Gardner, Ella Wease Smith, Daisy Sullivan, and Gwen Bolin; and two brothers, Melvin Bolin and Terrell Bolin. Mrs. Cash is survived by one daughter, Linda Cash of Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Merle Stuart of Sun City, Arizona; a nephew, Kendall Cash and wife Linda of Newark, Arkansas; a great-nephew, Chris Cash and wife Holly and their children, Bryce and Keely of Newark; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Rickie Gardner, Buddy Bolin, Bobby Bolin, Larry Bolin, and Mitchell Bolin. Duane McCampbell will be an honorary pallbearer.
Funeral services are 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Church of Christ. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. until service time.

Mr. James Harold Wilkerson, 60, of Newport died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Searcy. He was born September 23, 1949 at Lepanto, the son of Earl and Francis (McMullin) Wilkerson. Mr. Wilkerson worked for the Arkansas Department of Corrections, and was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He had attended truck driving and diesel mechanics school. Mr. Wilkerson enjoyed fishing, cooking, hunting, and spending time with his family. Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Wilkerson; and his parents. He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Kathy (Perry) Wilkerson; two sons, James Harold Wilkerson, Jr., and wife Lori of Newport and Marcus Paul Wilkerson of Newport; two brothers, Clarence Wilkerson and wife Connie and David Wilkerson and wife Gail, both of Rockford, Illinois; two sisters, Barbara Milhone and husband James of Roscoe, Illinois and Marie Birmingham and husband Gary of Plainwell, Michigan; four grandchildren, Leeann Wilkerson, Mary Wilkerson, Chris Clark, and Kevin Clark; his brother-in-law, Marcus Perry; father-in-law, Paul Perry; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Fakes Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Lucy “Jane” Dunahay Anderson, 98, of Lynn Haven, Florida died Wednesday, September 8, 2010. She was born in Arkansas, and had lived in Bay County since 1994. Mrs. Anderson was a faithful member of the Jenks Avenue Church of Christ. She enjoyed crafting, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends from church. Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Wegner and husband Wayne of Lynn Haven; one son, Willie Max Anderson of Venice, Florida; two grandsons, Matt Wegner and wife Stacy of Panama City, and Blair Anderson of Connecticut; two great-grandsons, Kelby and Jaron Wegner of Panama City; and one great-granddaughter, Justus Anderson of Connecticut. Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gracelawn Cemetery
at Tuckerman.

Mrs. Ellen (Winchester) Willis, 91, of Bradford died Monday at Searcy. She was born January 18, 1919 at Bradford the daughter of Earnie Goldman and Nellie Reed (McCall) Winchester. Mrs. Willis was a homemaker, and a member of the Crossroads Church of Christ. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Leo Willis; her parents; three brothers, Earnie Goldman Winchester, Judge Winchester, and Pat Winchester; and two sisters, Mary Schmale of Bradford and Jean Winchester Richardson. She is survived by two daughters, Genger Pollard of Bradford and Judy Smith of Bradford; one brother, A.J. Winchester of Bradford; two sisters, Willie May Lance of Bradford and Earnestine Hendershot of Bradford; four grandchildren, Shyvonne Turner, Jim Pollard, Brad Smith, and Jarrod Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Lucas Turner, Ethan Pollard, Noah Pollard, and Phoebe Smith.

Mrs. Kay (Holder) Worthington, 60, of Swifton died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Jonesboro. She was born September 8, 1950 at Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Paul Daniel and Helen Louise (Gossage) Holder. She married Mr. Dan Worthington on October 12, 1968. Mrs. Worthington was a 1968 graduate of Flushing High School in Flushing, Michigan. She was a pharmacy tech at Wal-Mart for the past ten years, and was also a homemaker. Mrs. Worthington was a member of the Abiding Faith Pentecostal Church of God at Swifton, where she was Sunday School secretary since 1990. Her grandchildren were her greatest love in life, and she also enjoyed camping, reading, and the outdoors. Mrs. Worthington was preceded in death by one sister, Beverly Louise Comer on September 11, 1985. She is survived by her husband, Dan Worthington of Swifton; one son, Danny Worthington and wife Shawna of Swifton; one daughter, Carolyn Bain and husband Jeff of Swifton; her parents, Paul and Helen (Gossage) Holder of Swifton; one brother, Tim Holder and wife Diane of Flushing, Michigan; four grandchildren, Mandy Rowland, Dylan Bain, Laci Worthington, and Dawson Lee Worthington; and her best friend, Carol Sholler of Gaylord, Michigan.

Mrs. Doris Louise (Hutchinson) Brumley, 82, of Shelby Township, Michigan passed on to Heaven on Friday, September 17, 2010. She was born November 11, 1927 at Newport, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert and Grace (Stephenson) Hutchinson. Mrs. Brumley was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Alexander Brumley; one son, Gary Alexander Brumley; one brother, Robert Hutchinson, Jr.; one sister, Oneida Brown; one niece, SueAnn Hightower; and her parents. She is survived by one son, Rodney Michael Brumley, Sr. and wife Belinda of Shelby Township, Michigan; three grandchildren, Tabatha Brumley Cronander and husband Eric, Rodney Michael Brumley II and fiancé, Amanda Kelenski, and Joshua Lee Brumley; four great-grandchildren, Cassandra Cronander, Aubrey Cronander, and Ethan Cronander, and Aderianna Brumley; nieces and nephews, R.L. Mr. Matt Birdsong, 46, of Tuckerman died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Little Rock. He was born June 20, 1964 at Newport, the son of Charles Eugene and Reba Joyce (Rutland) Birdsong. Mr. Birdsong was of the Christian belief, and enjoyed hunting arrowheads and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Scotty Lynn Birdsong. Mr. Birdsong is survived by one brother, David Birdsong of Tuckerman; two sisters, Carol Northcutt of Tuckerman and Teresa Curtis of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews who adored him.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Remmel-McCall Cemetery
with visitation from noon until service time at Jackson’s Funeral Home.

Ms. Andrenna Kay Taylor Smith, 44, of Newport died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Jonesboro. She was born June 9, 1966 at Chattanooga, Tennessee, the daughter of Donald and Sharon Davis. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church at Newport and was a New Vision Newport alumni and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Smith held two Bachelor Degrees, in Education and Theology. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and loved social work. Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her father, Don Davis on September 30, 2009. She is survived by one son, Jerry Smith of Newport; one daughter, Alicia Kaye Taylor of Newport; her mother, Sharon C. Davis of Newport; her fiancé, Billy Leo Ford of Newport; two brothers, Sean Davis and wife Amanda of Jonesboro and J. Lawrence Davis of Ocala, Florida; her extended family, Chauncey E. Ford, Madison Ford, Austin L. Ford, and Payton Ford; and three nephews.

Mr. Ray was owner/operator of E&L Catfish at Newport many years, and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his father, James Ray; one brother, Ernest Crawford; and one sister, Rosetta Ricker. Mrs. Hazel Raye Rowlett, age 81, of Swifton, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 25, 2010 after battling cancer with tremendous courage. She was born May 20, 1929 at Swifton, Arkansas, the daughter of Jim and Gertie (Hartsell) Foust. A homemaker and member of the Swifton Church of Christ, Mrs. Rowlett was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who enjoyed cooking, gardening, needle point, reading, and hosting family gatherings. Mrs. Rowlett was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Rowlett; one brother, Jimmy Foust, Jr.; one sister, Louise Lewellyn; and her parents. She is survived by two sons, Bobby Rowlett and wife Jaquita of Arlington, Tennessee, and Jimmy Rowlett and wife Cindy of Cabot, Arkansas; two brothers, Wayne Foust and Scotty Foust, both of Swifton; two sisters, Ethel Lee Helvering of Bradford and Linda Norris and husband Bobby of Swifton; five grandchildren, Jennifer Rowlett Warne and husband Josh of Eads, Tennessee, Kenneth Rowlett and wife Beth of Oakland, Tennessee, Kevin Rowlett of Nashville, Tennessee, Michael Rowlett of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Jacob Rowlett of Cabot, Arkansas; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Warne, Walker Warne, Mattie Warne, and Neal Rowlett; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Donna Fears of Swifton. Mrs. Lena (Young) Norris, 85, of Newport died Thursday, September 30, 2010. She was born October 1, 1924 at Swifton, Arkansas, and married Mr. Trudy Norris on September 24, 1938. Mrs. Young was a nurses aid at Springdale Hospital eighteen years, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, avid, fishing, quilting, and loved her dogs. She is survived by her husband of seventy-two years, Trudy James Norris of Newport; one son, Bobby Franklin Norris of Springdale, Arkansas; three daughters, Wanda Melton of Newport, Arkansas, Mildred Davison of Indianapolis, Indiana and Elda Lowhorn of Avon, Indiana; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
