KEOTA — Charles “Charlie” Sappington, 64, of Keota died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Stigler.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Antioch cemetery in Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Larry D. Sappington of Fallett, Texas; a sister, Patricia Vaden of Bells, Tenn.; two brothers, Leroy and Billy Sappington, both of Stigler; and four grandchildren.
Beatrice Nix
WALDRON — Beatrice Imogene Nix of Waldron died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in Van Buren. She was a retired nurse’s aide and a member of First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Albert Nix.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Duncan cemetery in Waldron.
She is survived by a daughter, Norma Starr of Waldron; two sons, Douglas Nix of Parks and Paul Nix of Van Buren; two sisters, Opal Miller and Eloise Jennings, both of Dallas; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark and Brian Starr, David and Jimmy Russell, Eric and Larry Brown.
Raymond Pharis
Raymond C. Pharis, 80, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in a local hospital. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he was a A20 combat pilot, and a retired car dealer, owning an operating Pharis Auto Sales.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Elizabeth Hall cemetery in New Blaine under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; a sister, Laura Moore of Roland; and one grandchild.
Joe Timmons
KEOTA — Joe Timmons, 80, of Keota died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in his home.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tamaha cemetery in Tamaha under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Lee; six daughters, Imogene Carry, Clara Boston, Lola Hale, Diane Gossett, Treasa Rhodes and Tina Pearson, all of Keota; four sons, Larry, Mitchell and Jeff Timmons, all of Keota, and Marty Timmons of Stigler; six sisters, Rosa Lee, Irene McSperritt, Jane Robison, Betty Ward, Frances Parr and Mary Jett; five brothers, Willard, Debert, Lenord, Hershell and Cub Timmons; 36 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Harold Powell, Mike Scantlen, David and Clint Buckner, Albert Carry and Clinton Jordan.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Hazel Abbott
STIGLER — Hazel L. Abbott, 85, of Stigler died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Stigler.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Tamaha cemetery.
She is survived by a brother, Raymond Cates of Stigler; three nieces and one nephew.
Mildred Ouellette
Mildred C. Ouellette, 77, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a retired waitress and of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Larry Ouellette.
No services will be held. The body was cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred M. McGee of Van Buren; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
James Daniels
BARLING — James O. Daniels, 83, of Barling died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Nashville. He was a retired employee of McGill Manufacturing Co. and a member of West-Ark Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; a daughter, Rosanne Wade of Fort Smith; a son, James Ron Daniels of Foley, Ala.; a sister, Wanda Gay Child of Little Rock; two brothers, Luther Bryan Daniels of Longview, Texas, and Howard Ray Daniels of Hobart, Ind.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Leona Syrock
Leona Faldon Syrock, 94, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a member of City Heights United Methodist Church and a retired nurse’s aide for Methodist Nursing Home. She was the widow of Jasper Syrock.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Freda Bruns and Lorene Scott, both of Van Buren, and Louise Thomas of Mountainburg; a son, Jasper Syrock of Ponder, Texas; a sister, Frances Bloon of Westchester, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Syrock, Anthony E. Zucchero, Joseph Z. and Brian Shepherd, Kendall, Kendrick and Tommy Thomas and Robert Thibault.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Larry Leininger
MULDROW — Larry Lee Leininger, 57, of Muldrow died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born March 21, 1945, in Wauseon, Ohio. He was a warehouse manager for Felix Thompson Co. in Fort Smith and attended Victory Temple Pentecostal Church in Roland.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Victory Temple Pentecostal Church in Roland with burial at Mitchell cemetery west of Muldrow under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; a daughter, Tamera Lee Suggs of Muldrow; a sister, Carol Ann Schmucker of Onstead, Mich.; two brothers, Butch Leininger of Muldrow and Pete Leininger of Montpelier, Ohio; and a grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Joe Suggs, Josh and Jonathon Leininger, Chris Caldwell, Myron Lynch and Myron Lynch Jr.

SALLISAW — June Dorothea Sparks, 84, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in Sallisaw. She was born June 6, 1918, in Sequoyah County. She was a homemaker, sales clerk and attended Primitive Baptist Church. She was the widow of Hooley Joy Sparks.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Peters cemetery northeast of Sallisaw.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Taylor of Sallisaw; two sons, Jim Sparks of Sallisaw and Dexter Sparks of Fort Smith; a brother, Avis Corley of Claremore, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Hershel Cole, Carl Wayne Lamb, Steve Broom, Eric Upton, Steve Baldwin and Brandon Sparks.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Cecilia Mary Cross, 83, of Fort Smith died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born Nov. 23, 1918 in Mitchell, S.D., and was a cook and pie maker at Dinner Bell Restaurant and Buena Vista Hotel and Restaurant. She was the widow of James Cross.
Mass was Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial at Poncha Springs cemetery under the direction of Lewis and Glen Funeral Home in Salisa, Colo.
She is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Syrock of Cedarville; Diana Wood of Poncha Springs, Colo.; Jacqueline Nelder of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Mary Cross of Dolores, Colo; three sons, Gary Cross of Saguache, Colo.; Marty Cross of Poncha Springs, Colo.; and Brian Cross of Rudy; six sisters, Rosalie Schmidt, Viola Termeer, Adeline Thuringer, Pauline Kummer, Irene Wipf and Sallie Turner; two brothers, Wilfred James and Paul Weber; 21 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Wanda Ileta Hand, 62, of Huntington died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 in Little Rock. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Fisher.
There will be no services.
She is survived by her husband Gene; and a daughter, Carrie Lee Hand of Booneville; and two grandchildren.

Cherri Jean Madden King, 46, of Clarksville died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at a Little Rock hospital. She was born March 8, 1956, in Newport. She was a registered nurse and a member of the Paris Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville with burial at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by her husband Pat; a daughter, Kristin King of Clarksville; three sons, Jeremy Dorrough of Bergman, Nick Dorrough of Clarksville and Alex King of Clarksville; her parents, Charleen and Raymond Avery of Paris; a sister, Lesa Thomas of Little Rock; three brothers, Harold Madden of Paragould, John Madden of Palm Bay, Fla., and Scott Avery of Fayetteville.

Ray Daniels, 74, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital.
He was born Feb. 15, 1928 in Webbville, Ky., and was a retired security guard and a member of Southside Church of the Nazerene.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Southside Church of the Nazerene under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Michaelle; two daughters, Vicki Thompson of Columbus, Ohio, and Grace Hibdon of Fort Worth, Texas; six sons, Daniel Conn of Barling, Timothy Daniels of Alma, and Eric, Larry, Keith and Kenny Daniels, all of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Betty Buck of Groves City, Ohio, Louise Lowry of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and June Daniels of Columbus; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Billy June Hanshaw, 48, of Booneville died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 in Booneville. She was a housewife and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Boonville.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Grove cemetery near the Sugar Grove community.
She is survived by her husband Danny; four daughters, Kelly Scantling of Texas, Mikelin Stewart of Waveland, Valerie Sirk of Booneville and Leslie Scantling of Booneville; two sons, Kenny Jr. and Isaac, both of the home; his mother, Jolene Scantling of Boonville; four sisters, Alice Ann Gray, Betty Jo Young, Jacqueline Blake and Tammy Sue Hise, all of Booneville; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Isaac and Kenny Sirk, Terry Williams, Devan Scantling, Neil Franklin and William Franklin.

Patricia Ann Avlos, 76, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with a private family committal.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Mabry, Kathy Albright and Becky Avlos, all of Fort Smith; a son, Nick Avlos of Dallas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
