Sam Wilson
Sam Wilson, 83, of Fort Smith died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001. He was born May 2, 1918, in Rawlins, Wyo. He was in service to his country for 15 years where he was heavily decorated for valor in combat during World War II including the Purple Heart. After World War II he served on McArthur’s staff during the occupation of Japan. Sam was also a member of the Calvary and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. today in Goddard United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Wilson, two sons, Major Neil F. and his wife, Major Emma C. Wilson of Hyattsville, Md., Dr. John H. Wilson of Baltimore; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Bob Dorsett of Suisun, Calif., Donna and Earle Hunt of Maumell and Connie and Mike Addison of Nassau Bay, Texas; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew of Cheyenne, Wyo. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Fasen.

William W. “Bill” Newton
William W. “Bill” Newton, 76, of Fort Smith died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a retired owner of Newton’s Jeweler’s Inc., a Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of First Presbyterian Church, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the American Gem Society. Aircraft owner and Pilots Association member since 1958. He was a eagle scout as well as his three other brothers. All four brothers served in World War Ii at the same time. Bill served in the North African Campaign.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with a private family committal at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Christa; three sons, Kelly, Duffy and Kevin Newton, all of Fort Smith; two brothers, Wendell Newton of Biloxi, Miss. and Bunny Newton of Joplin, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Sara, Jennifer, Lucy, Kylee, Bill and Kevin Newton, all of Fort Smith and Halie Newton-Abbott of Fayetteville.
Pallbearers will be Bill England, Roscoe Thompson, Bill Wessels, Bob Cohen II, Dude Crain, Myron Rappeport, Dr. J.B. Stewart and Glenn Click.

Mildred L. Peters
Mildred L. Peters, 87, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church choir and enjoyed years of volunteering at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Peters and daughter, Judith Peters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Karla Jacobs and Rusty of Fort Smith; a sister, Stelline Livingston of Greenville, Miss.; a sister-in-law, Billye Smreker of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Philip and Patrick Jacobs, both of Fort Smith and Kelly Jacobs of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren, Colby, Cassidy and Russell Jacobs, all of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Philip and Patrick Jacobs, Phil Livingston, Bill Smreker, Carl Friddle, Mike Boschetti, Bob Cooper and Dr. David Phillips.

Billy Wayne Porter
Billy Wayne Porter, 81, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a retired independent landman, past president of Fort Smith Association of Petroleum Landman, president of Westark Production Company, owner and president of Porter Gas Properties, a member of Central Presbyterian Church and a Army veteran of World War II. He also loved to hunt and fish.
A private family committal at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith prior to service. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Central Presbyterian Church under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Porter of the home; a daughter Susan and her husband, Gayle Mason of Fort Smith; a son, Larry Porter of Fort Smith; a sister, Margaret Ann Pulley of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Glen Porter of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Mason, Erin and William Porter.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ed Porter, Karl LaBorn, Gary Leeper, Bob Marsh, Gerry Lundy and Don Seal.

Robert L. Mize Sr.
Robert L. Mize Sr., 83, of Muldrow died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Muldrow. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Muldrow and a retired farmer for row crops.
Funeral was held Wednesday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Muldrow City cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Rubye of Muldrow; three daughters, Janice and her husband, Barron Thompson of Muldrow, Onita Cheyne of Houston and Glenda and her husband, Adrian Hopson of Roland; a son, Robert L. Mize Jr. of Muldrow; a sister, Cornelia Kirk of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother, Charley Mize of Muldrow; four grandson, Todd Linnington and Tony Sharp, both of Sallisaw, Monte Thompson and Jason Hopson, both of Roland; four granddaughters, Gayla Jones and Sloan Sandoval, both of Texas, Marcella Nelson of Oklahoma and Melanie Marsh of North Carolina, six great-granddaughters and six great-grandsons.
Pallbearers were Todd Linnington, Tony Sharp, Monte Thompson, Jason Hopson, Tony Sandoval, Wilson Fargo, Carl Mize Jr. and Robby Kirk.
Honorary pallbearer was Jim Carr.

Tressia Webb, 89, of Van Buren died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and member of Northside Baptist Church and a preschool Sunday school teacher at Northside Baptist Church. She was the widow of Samuel F. Webb, killed in action Feb. 3, 1945.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Charles of San Diego and Jack of Van Buren; a brother, Royce Wright of Los Angeles; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James, Jeff and Randy Woodward, Bob Wright, Mark Lewis and John Calhoun.
Honorary pallbearer will be James Johnson Jr.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church Preschool Department.

Sarah Karber
Sarah C. Karber, 78, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was the widow of John M. Karber Jr., and a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Episcopal Church Women and the 4-H Women’s Auxiliary.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Kreipke and Gail Graham, both of Fort Smith; a son, Alan Shiflette of Dallas; four stepsons, Stan Karber of Saigon, Vietnam, Phil Karber of Hanoi, Vietnam, Greg Karber of Fort Smith and Kent Karber of Denver; a sister, Mary Agnes Wiggins of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, J.C. Donnelly of Las Vegas and Richard Campbell of Elizabethton, Tenn.; four grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be James Graham, Don Kreipke, Joe Foster, Brian Shewmaker, David McMahon, Greg Karber and Dr. Ralph Kramer.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.

Billy Clark
Billy Clark, 72, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was retired from Automatic Cigarette Service Co. in Fort Smith and a member of Sebastian County No. 706 F & AM and Amrita Grotto.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Huntington City cemetery in Huntington under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Grace.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Remmington Winklepleck
KEOTA — Remmington Cameron “Baby Boy” Winklepleck, infant son of Jimmy and Terri Winklepleck of Keota, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Keota cemetery in Keota.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents, Jim and Melba Winklepleck of Keota; maternal grandparents, Bob and Janice Pedigo of Haileyville, Okla.; and a sister, Chelse Denee Winklepleck of the home.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Jennings Hodge
BONANZA — Jennings Hodge, 71, of Bonanza died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bonanza Assembly of God with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Ella; a daughter, Audrey Short of Bonanza; a son, Terry of Bonanza; a sister, Shirley Wilson of Bonanza; a brother, Billy of Fort Smith; six grandchildren, Greg and Joe Hodge, both of Midland, Cory of Ashdown, Adam Short and Justin Hodge, both of Bonanza, and Christie Salmeron of Greenwood and eight great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Winford Wooten
SALLISAW — Winford Sherman Wooten, 70, of Sallisaw died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Sallisaw. He was a farmer and machinery operator for Cooksen Hills Electric and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Webber Falls with burial at Snake Girty cemetery south of Webber Falls under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Gore.
He is survived by a lifelong companion, Betty Brammlett of Sallisaw; a daughter, Winifred Elizabeth McDonald of Sallisaw; a son, Arthur Duane Wooten of Stilwell; two stepsons, Bobby Dale Bramlett and Bentley Allen Bramlett, both of Fort Smith; a sister, Shirleen Hughart of Webber Falls; a brother, J.C. Wooten of Gore; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Dale Bramlett, Allen Bramlett, Jerry Jones, Carrol Wooten, John MacDonald and Arthur Wooten.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cooksen Hills Electric employees.

Lorna Ogilvie
CLARKSVILLE — Lorna Ogilvie, 78, of Clarksville died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Hot Springs National Park. She was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Missouri, the widow of James Ogilvie, a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church, Coal Hill E.H. Club, past state president of Extension Homemakers Club, active in Methodist and Presbyterian church circles and the Presbyterian Church Thrift Shop, a board member of Horsehead Water Users Association and charter member of St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Little Rock. During World War II, she worked at the Pentagon.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harmony Presbyterian Church with burial at Harmony Presbyterian Church under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by a son, James, of Erie, Penn.; a brother, Patrick Burris of Coos Bay and one grandchild, Raymond of Pottstown, Penn.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Kenneth Capps
GREENWOOD — Kenneth D. Capps, 86, of Greenwood died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in his home. He was retired as owner/operator of Gene’s Trading Post in Greenwood, a Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean War, and a lifetime member of Fleet Reserve, Pearl Harbor Survivor’s Association, VFW Post No. 6527, Harris-Hannah in Greenwood, Disabled American Veteran’s Association and American Legion, Fort Smith, Post No. 31.
Funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Burnville Baptist Church with burial with full military honors at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five daughters, Barbara Wayt of Checotah, Louise Archambeau of Muskegon, Mich., Linda Beauchamp of Hugo and Eilene Couch and Jane Gunkel, both of Greenwood; three sons, Dennis, John and Tom, all of Greenwood; three brothers, Vernon of South San Francisco, Calif., and Howard Earl Capps and Robert L. Capps, both of Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Archambeau, David Gunkel, Ken Beauchamp, Bill Wayt, Bill Couch and Randy Wayt.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sister Concetta Mazzanti
Sister Concetta Mazzanti, 82, of Fort Smith died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was house mother at St. Joseph’s Orphanage in North Little Rock for 51 years and also worked in the dining room at St. Scholastica Academy.
Vespers will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Scholastica Monastery Chapel in Fort Smith, with funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Scholastica Monastery Chapel and burial at St. Scholastica cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by four sisters, Dell of Lake Village, Margaret Agussi of Cleveland, Miss., Lena Mazzanti of Little Rock and Catherine DiStrito of Goulds, Fla.; and four brothers, Joe Mazzanti of Lake Village, Edwin Mazzanti of Virginia Beach, Va., John Mazzanti of Norfolk, Va., and Pete Mazzanti of Laurel, Miss.
