ALMA — Arlton Rogers, 88, of Alma, formerly of Yell County, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Van Buren. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and a member of Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Danville Church of Christ with burial at Havana cemetery in Havana under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; one daughter, Mabel Coleman of Mountainburg; one brother, Osby of Paris; three grandchildren, Robin Willroth and Jennifer Coleman, both of Mountainburg, and Shari Moxley of Lillington, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ed Taylor, Evell and J.D. Welch, Noble James, Ron Smith and Sonny Dickey.
Doran Hoover
MENA — Doran Allen Hoover, 77, of Mena died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in Tulsa. He was a Marine veteran of World War II and a foreman in electric construction. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Rita Jeanine Smith of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Patti Lea Grace of Fayetteville; two sons, Alan Doran Hoover of Bedford, Texas, and Samuel Eric Hoover of Mena; one brother, J.C. of Mena; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Nina Smith
SPIRO — Nina Smith, 98, of Spiro died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Spiro. She was a homemaker and a member of Woodlawn Assembly of God in Spiro. She was the widow of Buddy Smith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at New Hope cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by one daughter, Emmaline Swafford of Spiro; one son, Jerry of Spiro; four grandchildren, Aaron Swafford and Doris McClain, both of Spiro, Marilyn Williams of Muskogee and Gail Freeman of Oklahoma City; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
Doris Phipps
Doris Ilene Phipps, 84, of Van Buren, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at her home. She a former employee of P&R Sweet Shop.
Funeral will be Wednesday in Highland Park Funeral Home in Des Moines with burial at Pine Hill cemetery in Des Moines. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann L. Reeves of Van Buren; two sons, Charles Andrew Phipps and Larry Phipps, both of Van Buren; five grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ronald Easley
ARKADELPHIA — Ronald Curtis Easley, 57, of Arkadelphia, formerly of Mena, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Little Rock. He was a 1962 graduate of Mena High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. He was general manager of South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperative Inc. and served on both the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. boards, where he was secretary-treasurer and chairman of the board. He served on the Clark County Industrial Council as secretary-treasurer, where he helped in the development of the Southwest Arkansas Technology Learning Center. He served in the Arkadelphia Rotary Club and Clark County Home Builders Association and also served as president of Mena Rotary Club, Mena Jaycees, Optimist Club of Mena and the Polk County Chamber of Commerce and Fair Association. He was an engineering officer for the Polk County OES and a volunteer fireman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mena.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday in Union Mission Church of God with burial at Cherry Hill cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Freddie; one daughter, Kelley L. Dotson of Arkadelphia; one sister, Debra Shook of Little Rock; two brothers, Bart and Gary Easley, both of Little Rock; and one granddaughter, Katie Doston of Arkadelphia.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Francis Beavers Jr.
Francis O. Beavers Jr., 60, of Fort Smith died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was retired from the Air National Guard and was employed at Whirlpool Corp. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at New Hope cemetery in Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Dee; two stepdaughters, Kathy Sanders of Fort Smith and Belinda Nelson of Willington, N.J.; one son, Darren Beavers of Nashua, N.H.; his father, Francis O. Beavers Sr. of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael and H.B. Hayes, Kevin Sanders, Odis Stephens, Wayne and Carl West and Joe Carlile.

CLARKSVILLE — Joe Lee Martin, 76, of Clarksville died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in his home. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and attended Clarksville Schools.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Lone Pine cemetery in Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; one son, Alan of Clarksville; one sister, Pauline Turner of Sacramento, Calif.; two grandchildren, Timothy and Matthew Martin, both of Clarksville; two nieces and one nephew.

POTEAU — Bill Henry Goins, 80, of Poteau died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Poteau. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was awarded the Purple Heart and was a lifetime member of the DAV. He was a rancher, retired from Whirlpool Corp. and a member of Double Branch Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Double Branch Baptist Church in Poteau with burial at Vaughn cemetery in Gilmore under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Florance; one daughter, Peggy Sue Baxter of Poteau; three sisters, Opal Snyder of Muskogee, Okla., Charlene Lierly of Roseville, Calif., and Marie Coleman of Stockton, Calif.; three brothers, Kenneth and Verlan, both of Poteau, and Odie of Roseville, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Edna E. Graves, 83, of Fort Smith died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in her home. She was retired from the Fort Smith Police Department and was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Oak cemetery Pavilion in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary J. Allen of Fort Smith; one son, Robert H. Graves Jr. of Poteau; one sister, Margaret B. Pace of the home; three grandchildren, Kelly Allen of Fort Smith, Christy Walker of Poteau and Randy Graves of Carthage, Texas; and two great-grandchildren.

POTEAU — Dorothy Marie Starnes, 92, of Poteau died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Christian Biblical Church of God.
The body was cremated under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann Hannah of Anchorage, Alaska, and Norma J. Brown of Poteau; one son, Thomas E. Graham of Poteau; one sister, Bonnie J. Johnson of Texas; and one brother, John Williams of Odessa, Texas.
David Davidson
David “Dave” Davidson, 53, of Van Buren died Friday, March 2, 2001, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam and the owner/operator of Dave’s Body Shop in Van Buren. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Alma.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Fort Smith National cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Florie; two daughters, Donna Davidson and Michelle Turman, both of Van Buren; two sons, Mike and Tommy, both of Van Buren; one sister, Delores Flickenger of Van Buren; and six grandchildren, Hailey and Zayne Turman, Tyler Blasingame and Bradley, Jared and Abbey Davidson, all of Van Buren.
Linda Vaughn
Linda Vaughn, 58, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was an optician for the Eye Group, a member of Oak Cliff Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher for the senior girls, a choir member and a member of the Sweet Adeline Ladies Barber Shop Quartet. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Mary Spessard.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Oak Cliff Baptist Church with burial at White Rock cemetery in White Rock Community under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by one son, Shane Vaughn of Fort Smith; one sister, Cindy Fose of Fort Smith; and one nephew, Josh Fose of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be James Carty, Justin Douglas, Tom Sallis, Larry Biggs, Dan Swink, Jim Cox, Phil Whitten Jr. and Roger Cravey.

Ode L. Maddox
Ode L. Maddox, 88, of Oden passed away Friday, March 2, 2001 in Oden.
He was born October 2, 1912, in Oden to the late Hugh Maddox and the late Josie Edwards Maddox. He was united in marriage to Ruby Lackey. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. Mr. Maddox was an Arkansas state representative from 1957 to 1997. He was the Oden School System Superintendent for 31 years. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and the Cattlemen’s Association. He was on the Board of Directors for the First Bank of Montgomery County and a member of the First Baptist Church in Oden.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby of Oden; a son, David Maddox of Mena; two daughters, Mary Jo and her husband, Bill Abernathy of Mena and Jamie Sue and her husband, Charles Goldspink of Creswell, Ore.; and 12 grandchildren, Robert Abernathy, Richard Abernathy, Melinda Stevenson, Donna Carter, Carla Singleton, Paul Goldspink, Sharon Reap, Melanie Simmons, Lee Maddox, Brandt Maddox, John Maddox and Matt Maddox; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by his son, Edward Lee Maddox, who is survived by his wife, Janice Joyner. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Guy Maddox and C.W. Maddox.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, in the auditorium at the Ode Maddox Elementary School in Oden with Brother Eddie McCord and Brother Richard Posey officiating. Internment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
Visitation will be today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation also will be Monday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oden First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Robert Abernathy, Richard Abernathy, Paul Goldspink, Lee Maddox, John Maddox and Matt Maddox.
Memorials may be made to the Ode Maddox Scholarship Fund at Oden Public Schools or Rich Mountain Community College.
The Rev. Dillard S. Miller
The Rev. Dillard S. Miller, 81, of Mena, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Friday, March 2, 2001. Born in New Boston, Texas, on June 2, 1919, to the late Elmer Edwin Miller and the late Pearl Reed Miller, he pastored several Arkansas Baptist congregations, eventually retiring after 29 years of Mena’s First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and was honored with a Doctorate of Divinity from Ouachita in 1984. He served the denomination in national appointments, Arkansas Baptist Work in numerous capacities including Chairman of the Arkansas Baptist Executive Committee and President of the state convention. Additionally, he served the Ouachita Baptist Association in numerous roles, eventually coming out of retirement to serve an additional 13 years as the Director of Missions.
Brother Miller is survived by his wife of 61 years, Iva Nell (Nellie); his daughter, Karr La Voynne and her husband, George Dean Dickens; his son, Rodney R. Miller; and three grandchildren, Douglas Dickens, Whitney Fletcher and Courtney Dickens. Also surviving him are two brothers, James Edwin Miller and Eddie Glen Miller. Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Weldon Reed Miller and Rodney Dale Miller.
Funeral will be held at First Baptist Church in Mena on Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at 2 p.m. with Brother Roger Bishop, Brother James Hampton, Brother Doug Dickens, Brother A.J. Cole and Brother Bill Bowen officiating. Internment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Monday, March 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Edna E. Graves, 83, of Fort Smith departed this life Thursday, March 1, 2001, in her home. She was born November 5, 1917, in Fort Smith, the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Elizabeth (Stovall) Pace. Edna was retired from the Fort Smith Police Department and a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary J. and David Allen of Fort Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. Jr. and Mary Ann Graves of Poteau, one sister, Margaret B. Pace of the home; three grandchildren, Kelly Allen of Fort Smith, Christy Walker of Poteau and Randy Graves of Carthage, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Walker of Poteau and Sydney Graves of Carthage, Texas. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Oak cemetery Pavilion in Fort Smith with burial at Oak cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Doris Kennedy and the Rev. Rick Snyder. Isabelle Reese, 76, of Fort Smith, entered into rest Friday, March 2, 2001, in a local hospital. She was born March 7, 1924, in New Kensington, Penn., the daughter of the late Harry B. and Susan(McCullogh) Barnes. Isabelle was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Citterberg and Ralph Reese. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ileen and Johnnie Doyle of Fort Smith; two sons, Eugene Lagham of Lowerburrell, Penn., and William Baker of Apolla, Penn.; daughter-in-law and special friend, Patty Mizell of Fort Smith; a brother, Harry B. Barnes Jr. of Natrona Heights, Penn.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith, officiated by Reverend Wally Portmann.
