Mary E. Stephenson

MOUNTAIN HOME -- Dr. Mary Elizabeth Stephenson of Mountain Home died July 31, 2004. She was born in Alabama, but lived in Arkadelphia for many years where she became professor of education at Henderson State University in 1965. She received her doctorate in psychology from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She was a life member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Colonial Dames.

While at HSU, she was a charter member and served as secretary of the HSU Federal Credit Union Board. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir and attended the Frances McLean Sunday school class.

Survivors include: Her son, William R. Stephenson and a grandson, Lee Stuart Stephenson.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia.

Robert G. Anderson

FRIENDSHIP -- Robert Gene Anderson, 72, of Friendship died Oct. 8, 2004, at his home. He was born June 22, 1932, in Hilmon, son of the late William Boyd and Ann Dessie Pittman Anderson. He was a retired employee of Rob Wilson Motors, now Mike Clayton Motors. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Gene Anderson Jr.

Survivors include: His wife, Julia McMahan Anderson; a son, Scott Anderson of Malvern; two daughters, Elaine Barnes of Hot Springs and Vicki Chandler of Malvern; four stepchildren, Betty Frazier of Midway and Pat Williams, Lloyd Williams and Jimmy Williams of Friendship; four brothers, Gerald Anderson and Douglas Anderson of Malvern, Talmadge Anderson of Sheridan and Butch Anderson of Hot Springs; three sisters, Carolyn Matton of Malvern and Shirley Anita Kelly and Vaudean Bellomy of Hot Springs; two half-sisters, Zenith Anderson and Viola Anderson; a stepsister, Betty Anderson; and his stepmother, Rose Anderson.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home chapel with Noel Morehead officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Anderson, Scotty Anderson, Jamie Freeman, Sean Beaty, Roger Frazier, Jason Frazier and Ronnie Williams.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care in Hot Springs.

Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

R.C. Allen

VADEN -- R.C. Allen, 85, of Vaden died Nov. 28, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Vaden, son of the late Price and Atla Allen. He was a retired logger and a member of the Church of the Living God.

Survivors include: His wife, Armenter Allen; six sons, C.L. Allen, Charles Allen, Aaron Allen and Milton Allen of Vaden, William Allen of Hot Springs and D.L. Allen of Sparkman; two daughters, Hazel Allen of Little Rock and Rosie Davis of Arkadelphia; two sisters, Christine Allison of Sacramento, Calif., and Virgie Hooks of New Boston, Texas; and 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Tate Temple Church of God in Christ with Supt. Leroy Williams officiating. Burial will be in Vaden Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Gloria J. Whitmore

LANSING, Mich. -- Gloria J. Whitmore, 63, of Lansing, Mich., died Nov. 28, 2004. She was born Sept. 6, 1941, in Gurdon, daughter of Ellis and Beatrice Stafford. She was a retired employee of Tri County Community Mental Health and a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Lansing.

Survivors include: Her husband, Robert L. Whitmore; a daughter, Beatrice Nelson of North Little Rock; two sons, Stanley Bailey of Lansing and Michael Harvell of Columbus, Ga.; her parents, Ellis and Beatrice Stafford of Gurdon; a stepson, Kenneth Gray of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Christy Richmond of Memphis; three brothers, Harold E. Stafford of Camden, Phillip S. Stafford of Arkadelphia and Michael I. Stafford of Little Rock; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral will be at noon Saturday at Roanoke Baptist Church, Rutherford Road, Gurdon. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.

Eunice W. Crawley

ARKADELPHIA -- Eunice Elizabeth Williams Crawley, 91, of Arkadelphia died Nov. 29, 2004, at her home. She was born Aug. 12, 1913, in the Piney community, daughter of the late Malcom Erie and Sarah Elmira Gantt Williams. She was a seamstress for Hollywood Vassarette and Oberman's and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Extension Homemakers Club. She was the widow of George Bose Crawley.

Survivors include: A niece, Ruth Francis of Arkadelphia; and four nephews, Larry Williams and Harold Francis of Arkadelphia, Onis Williams of Mena and Ralph Williams of Midway.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Rusty Jones officiating. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Clarence Sossoman, Larry Williams, Ralph Williams, W.L. Fendley, Charles Nickels and Harold Francis.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lucille C. Pilcher

MALVERN -- Lucille Crowe Pilcher, 84, of Malvern died Feb. 1, 2005, in Arkadelphia. She was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Midway, daughter of the late Hardy Sherman Buck and the late Sarah Catherine Hughes Buck. She was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Malvern and a homemaker. She was an active member of the Malvern Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: Her husband, Joe Pilcher: three daughters, Maurice VanRoekel of Temecula, Calif., Mary Collins of Arkadelphia and Brenda Treadway of Bismarck; three stepdaughters, Barbara Davis of Hot Springs, Sharon Cash of Friendship and Brenda Kennedy of Antioch; two stepsons, Joe Howard Pilcher and Bruce Pilcher of Malvern; one sister, Pauline Ables of Poyen; and six grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Atkinson Funeral Home with Harold Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Neighbors Cemetery at Midway. Pallbearers will be Michael Hall, Kris Treadway, Micheal Daniels, Jeff Buck, Kevin Crowe and Bruce Efird. Honorary pallbearers will be her step-grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rosie M. Rogers

ARKADELPHIA -- Rosie Mae Rogers, 56, of Arkadelphia, formerly of Gurdon, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. She was born March 25, 1948, in Waldo, the daughter of the late Lossie and Siller Rogers Sr. She was a retired nurse's aide and a member of First Memorial Church of God in Christ where she was a choir member and a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include: Two brothers, Terry Rogers of Arkadelphia and Louis Rogers of Gurdon; and one sister, Clara Cummings of Gurdon.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Memorial Church of God in Christ with Eld. Chester Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hedge Cemetery at Gurdon under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Benjamin E. Davis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Benjamin E. Davis of Montgomery, Ala., formerly of Arkadelphia, died Feb. 1, 2005. He was the son of the late Buster and Edith Davis.

Survivors include: His wife, Georgie Davis of Montgomery; a son, Benjamin Davis of Hayward, Calif.; a daughter, Gena Davis of Montgomery; three brothers, Bishop Willie E. Davis, Moses Davis and Darrell Davis of Hayward, Calif.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Davis and Marie Hall of Milwaukee, Wis.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 8 at Cathedral Restoration Church. Burial will be in Damascus Cemetery in Greenville, Ala., under the direction of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home of Montgomery.

Fern J. Lambert

AMITY - Fern J. Lambert, 77, of Amity, died Friday, March 31, 2006, in a Little Rock hospital.

A lifelong resident of Amity, she was born Feb. 17, 1929, the daughter of Thomas Monroe Lambert and Cora Elizabeth Dafford Lambert.

She was a retired Clark County government employee, where she had worked for the offices of sheriff and collector, county judge, and served as deputy county and probate court clerk. She helped organize and was an original member of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of the Amity Public Schools Inc. She had worked as secretary for the Amity Public School system, the Veteran's School program and as a clerk for the Arkansas State Revenue Department.

She was a member of the Amity United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Jettie Lambert, Mazelle Kirkpatrick and Jean Elam; and seven brothers, Elmer Lambert, Ellis Lambert, Paul Lambert, Virgil Lambert, Harold Lambert, Doyle Lambert and "Babe" Lambert.

She was survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Services were Monday in the Amity United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Coy and Rev. James Lybrand officiating.

Interment was in Jones Cemetery under the direction of Smith Davis of Glenwood.

Pallbearers were Dan Elam, Sam Speer, Britt Elam, Dale Richardson, Henry Lambert, Sammy Doughty and Jeremy Benton.

Memorials may be made to the Jones Cemetery Association or the Amity United Methodist Church.

Debra G. Manriquez

ARKADELPHIA - Debra Gail Manriquez, 50, of Arkadelphia died April 2, 2006, at her home. She was born Feb. 28, 1956, in De Queen, the daughter of Leroy Godwin and Patsy Shope Cox. She was a caregiver for the elderly and was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Godwin, and one daughter, Katie Rose Manriquez.

Survivors include: Her mother, Patsy Cox and stepfather, A. B. Cox of Arkadelphia; three brothers, Deryl Godwin and Terry Cox of Arkadelphia; and Gary Godwin of Little Rock; seven step-brothers and sisters; many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the ARORA Foundation of Little Rock: Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Association, 1100 N. University, Suite 200, Little Rock, Ark. 72207.

James O. Sorrells

GLENWOOD - James Oatsie Sorrells, 85, of Glenwood, died Monday, April 3, 2006.

He was born on July 26, 1920, near Alpine, the son of Henry Harvey Sorrells and Dixie Ann Rinkle Sorrells. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Verdia Mae Jackson Sorrells in 1978; his second wife, Juanita Clark Sorrells in 1995; his parents; two sisters, Flora Jackson and Dorothy Killingsworth; and one brother, Delmar Sorrells.

He was a logger for most of his life, except for 15 years when he was employed with Amity Paint Co.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James Alfred and Patsy Sorrells of Dalark; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lorna Arlene and Ken Hood of Pearcy, Judy Christine and Gene Cogburn of Glenwood and Jean Annette Sorrells and Harlan Short of Glenwood; seven grandchildren, Rhonda, Lisa, Kevin, Kelly, Jason, Beth and Randy; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Patty Fay Sorrells of Delight; and one sister and brother-in-law, Martha Helen and James Andrew Davis of Hot Springs.

Services were today in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lee Davis officiating.

Interment was in the Golden Cemetery near Arkadelphia under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers were grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Gary Gehrki and the staff and residents of the Glenwood Nursing Home.

George R. Hansen
GURDON - George Russell Hansen, 82, of Gurdon died March 25, 2006. He was a retired chief warrant officer-W3 in the U.S. Army with 20 years of service, including service in World War II and Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gurdon and was retired from International Paper.

Survivors include: His wife of 49 years Davyne Hansen of Gurdon; two sons, Mark Hansen of Langley and David Hansen of Witter; a brother, Walt Hansen of Lake Bluff, Ili.; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials maybe made to the Humane Society of Clark County, 627 Walnut, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923.

A memorial service was March 28 in the First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, in Gurdon to celebrate his life. Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon in charge of arrangements.
