Virgle L. Scott
ARKADELPHIA -- Virgle Lee "Vudge" Scott, 68, of Arkadelphia died Nov. 29, 2003 at his home. He was born June 20, 1935. He was a former employee of National Gysum and DeGray Lake Resort State Park. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmore Scott.

Survivors include: His wife, Pauline Caesar Scott of Arkadelphia; two sons, Kenneth Scott and Brian Scott of Arkadelphia; three daughters, Kathy Brooks, Paula McNeal and Lisa Whittie of Arkadelphia; his mother, Lillie Scott of Arkadelphia; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be at noon Thursday in Richmond Hill Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of Perry Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Charles H. Hearn
ARKADELPHIA -- Charles Henry Hearn, 81, of Arkadelphia died Nov. 29, 2003 at his home. He was born Nov. 22, 1922 in Arkadelphia, son of the late Henry and Lucinda Hearn. He was a retired logger and a member of Richmond Hill AME Church.

Survivors include: His wife, Essie Hearn; five daughters, Charline Jones and Wanda Hearn of Inglewood, Calif., Elsie Hearn and Vickie Hearn of Los Angeles, Calif., and Patricia Wilson of Arkadelphia; two brothers, George W. Hearn of San Diego, Calif., and John Hearn of Gardena, Calif.; and two sisters, Mary McKinney of Lubbock, Texas, and Nora Bryant of Hot Springs.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Richmond Hill AME Church with Rev. Margaret Williams officiating. Burial will be in Richmond Hill Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Carolyn Whittecar
MALVERN -- Carolyn Whittecar, 61, of Malvern died Dec. 3, 2003 in Hot Spring County Medical Center at Malvern.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, and will be announced by Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.

James T. Wright

James T. Wright Ed.D., 78, of Glenwood, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004. He was born July 17, 1925, in the Mount Tabor community near Glenwood, the son of Joel Schooley Wright and Retter Grant Wright. On Dec. 19, 1959, he was married to Pauline Williams.

He was a graduate of Caddo Gap High School, received his bachelor of science degree from Ouachita Baptist University and his masters and doctor of education degrees from the University of Arkansas. He was an educator for more than 50 years and a retired professor from Henderson State University. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa education fraternity and served on the advisory council of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Henderson State University. He was president of the West Central Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Area Agency on Aging and Silver Haired Legislature. He was on the executive committee of the Ouachita Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Gideons International.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Wright of Glenwood; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Glenna Wright of Glenwood; three brothers, Haskell Wright of Tijeras, N. M., and Joel Wright and Darrell Joe Wright of Glenwood; two sisters, Myrtis Tidwell of Glenwood and Hazel Lee Britt of Royal; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in the Glenwood First Baptist Church with Rev. Erby Burgess and Dr. Earl Dunn officiating.

Burial will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 373, Glenwood, Ark. 71943 or the James T. Wright Scholarship Fund, Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Glenwood First Baptist Church.

Lona McCrary

PRESCOTT -- Lona McCrary, 80, of Prescott died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at her home. She was born July 21, 1923 in Snyder, Texas, the daughter of Homer and Nancy Burdett Millhollon. Mrs. McCrary retired from Montgomery-Ward Co., was a member of Prescott Country Club, the Church of Christ and the Women's Golf Association.

Survivors include: Her husband of 60 years, Bill McCrary; one son, Bill N. McCrary and his wife, Sarah Kay, of Arkadelphia; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Mark McCrary and one great-grandchild, Michael McCrary.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Arkadelphia.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

James A. Knox

ARKADELPHIA -- James A. "Jim" Knox, 84, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, in National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. He was born Oct. 5, 1919 in Star City, the son of the late John E. and Mary Lyle Knox. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Arkadelphia, where he served as an elder and deacon, and was a 1949 graduate of the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. Mr. Knox was the county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration for 28 years in Clark County, an appraiser, co-owner of Pioneer Abstract and Title Co., a veteran of World War II and a member of the Arkadelphia Lions Club.

Survivors include: His wife of 59 years, Juanita Knox; two daughters, Karen DeMott and her husband, Steve, and Melinda Hosch and her husband, Ron, all of Hot Springs; one brother, John E. Knox Jr. of Forrest City; five grandchildren, Michele King, Jill DeMott, Jennifer DeMott, Carrie Tucker and James Jordan Tucker; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Ethan King.

A memorial service was today at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gail Perkins officiating. Burial was private.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

R.S. 'Buddy' Hawkins

HOT SPRINGS -- R.S. "Buddy" Hawkins, 79, of Hot Springs died March 31, 2004. He was born July 26, 1924 in Hot Springs, son of the late Eva and Harvey S. Hawkins. He was an electrician and retired from Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church and founder of the Hawkins Family gospel singers and Hickory Hill Park. He was the widower of Imogene Reed Hawkins and preceded in death by a sister, Trudy Fallon.

Survivors include: Two daughters and sons-in-law, Lou and Morris Tabor and Norma and Joe McKinnon of Hot Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Joe Edds of Little Rock; two granddaughters, Angel Turoski and Tammye Michau; two step-granddaughters, Deshawna Latch and Carla Janes; and four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. April 4, 2004, at First Pentecostal Church with Rev. B.F. Glidewell officiating. Burial will be Mountain Valley Cemetery under the direction of Hot Springs Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Fallon Jr., Joe Edds Jr., Lewis May, Fred Glidewell, Gerald Glidewell and Bob Allbriton. Honorary pallbearers will be the maintenance department of Hot Srpings Rehabilitation Center, Dan Henderson, Rick Goshen, Teddy Frye, George Meyers, Wilbert Bates, E.C. Latch, Ryan Turoski and Shawn Janes.

Vistiation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JaLinda T. Tate

PRESCOTT -- JaLinda Tre'lan Tate, infant, died March 26, 2004 at Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. She was born March 26, 2004, the daughter of Lance Tate and Betty Evans of Prescott.

Survivors include: Her parents; four brothers, Michael, Levatus, Benjamin and Marqures Evans of Prescott; grandparents, Lenzy and Wanda Johnson of Prescott and Jackie and Patricia Tate of Gum Springs; and great-grandparents, Rudell and Elouise Ellis of Arkadelphia and Loretta Tate of Gum Springs.

A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. at DeAnn Cemetery at Prescott with Rev. Wallace Ingram officiating. Burial is under the direction of Brandon's Mortuary of Hope.

Robert M. Eakin

ARKADELPHIA -- Robert Marshall Eakin, 64, of Arkadelphia died April 1, 2004. He was born Sept. 8, 1939, at Whelen Springs. He was a retired employee of J.C. Penney. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include: His wife, Ellen Eakin of Arkadelphia; three sons, Robert Eakin Jr. of Arkadelphia, Kenneth Eakin of Little Rock and Danny Eakin of Fayetteville; a daughter, Deborah Eakin; his mother, Nettie Ross Redden of Bryant; two brothers, Larry Eakin of Hot Springs and Harry "Butch" Eakin of Wisconsin; two sisters, Lynn Watson of Washington state and Shirley McElroy of Bryant; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Cook officiating.

Ollie G. Reed

ARKADELPHIA -- Ollie Gene Reed, 59, of Arkadelphia died May 31, 2004. He was born July 5, 1944, son of the late Eddie C. and Mary Lee Hogan Reed. He was a member of Piney Grove AME Church and a farmer in Clark County for many years. He was preceded in death by one son.

Survivors include: One son, Gregory L. Reed of Ozan; two sisters, Margarine Jackson of Arkadelphia and Mary Tate of Chicago, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral will be at noon Saturday at Piney Grove AME Church with Rev. Fostene Quarles officiating. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. today at the funeral home with family hour from 6-7 p.m.

Joe E. Petty

ARKADELPHIA -- Joe Ed Petty, 69, of Arkadelphia died July 29, 2004. He was born May 19, 1935, in Arkadelphia, to the late Charles E. and Lois Bledsoe Petty. He was a lifelong resident of Clark County. Mr. Petty was self-employed as an independent logger and was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He was very active in antique car shows and loved to show his 1967 Mustang convertible. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Dodson Petty, and a brother, J.L. Petty.

Survivors include: A son, Tony Petty of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Liz Petty of Leonard, Texas; a brother, Bill Petty of Delight; and two sisters, Ruth Antonacci of North Little Rock and Carolyn Shoffner of Guys, Tenn.

Funeral was today at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home. Burial was in Unity Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Unity Cemetery Fund, c/o P.O. Box 581, Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923.

Eva J. Dismuke

MALVERN -- Eva Jones Dismuke, 66, of Malvern died July 29, 2004, at Hot Spring County Medical Center at Malvern. She was born Sept. 13, 1937, daughter of the late Cliff and Dora Reed Jones. She was a former employee at Hot Spring County Medical Center where she worked as an LPN. She was a member of Mother's Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include: Her husband, Dortha Dismuke Jr. of Malvern; four children, Eva Diane Williams Lambert of Little Rock, Daniel L. Dismuke of Malvern, Leslie L. Walcott and Twyla L. Dismuke of Hot Springs; three brothers, Charlie Jones and Herman Jones of Arkadelphia and Cliff Jones of Saginaw, Mich.; one sister, JoAnna Bragg of Centerpoint; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Piney Grove AME Church with Eld. David Diggins officiating. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.

Visitation is 11 a.m.-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Warren H. Sugg

MABELVALE -- Warren Harding Sugg, 82, of Mabelvale died July 30, 2004. He was born in Little Rock and graduated from Mabelvale High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served in the North African theater. He attended Little Rock Junior College and worked was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was the widower of Eloise Evelyn Irmen Sugg.

Survivors include: Three sons, Richard Sugg of Alexander, Charles Sugg of Katy, Texas, and Michael Sugg of Benton; two daughters, Georgette Price of Alexander and Sandra Gattin of Arkadelphia; two brothers, William Sugg of Hensley and Donald Sugg of Little Rock; and nine children and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Martin Cemetery in Little Rock with Bobby Ashcraft officiating. Burial is under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
