Willie H. Garner
Willie H. Garner, 87, of Amity died Dec. 13, 2001. She was born March 30, 1914, daughter of the late Burkett Green and Viola Anderson Green. She was a member of Bethsaida Church of Christ, and the widow of Manuel E. Garner. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Edwin Garner.
Survivors include: Her daughter Fern Lambert of Amity, two grandchildren, Treva Henthorn of Glenwood and Terry Lambert of Amity; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday in Davis-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Glenwood with Rev. John McAnally officiating. Burial was in Jones Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Twin Rivers Health and Rehab in Arkadelphia.
Mike Dempster
Mike Dempster, 49, of Camden died Dec. 14, 2001. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Dempster. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Camden and a Shelter Insurance agent.
Survivors include: His wife, Maryetta Dempster of Camden; a son, John Dempster of North Little Rock; two daughters, Jennifer Dempster and Kimberly Dempster of Arkadelpiha; a stepson, Jamie Sharp of Hot Springs; a stepdaughter, Sonya Sharp of Camden; three brothers, George Dempster of Dallas, Texas, Robert Dempster of North Little Rock and Thomas Dempster of San Francisco, Calif.; and a sister, Suzy Shackleford of Bee Branch.
Funeral was today at Immanuel Baptist Church in Camden. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery
under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home.
Billy A. Barentine
Billy Andrew Barentine, 65, of Bismarck died Dec. 15, 2001 at Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 24, 1936 at Kirby, son of the late Norman C. and Virgie Craig Barentine. He was the owner-operator of an auto parts business, a former volunteer EMT and paramedic and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include: His wife, Barbara Wade Barentine; two sons, Tim Barentine of Meadow Vista, Calif., and Wally Tripp of Auburn, Calif.; four daughters, Linda Hodges, Lori Nieves and Lisa Best of Bismarck and Deanna Tripp of Auburn, Calif.; two brothers, Marvin Barentine of Oregon and Richard Barentine of Arkansas; two sisters, Kathy Milsap of Washington and Alma Sue Lang of Bismarck; and 16 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Looper officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Mary R. Keys
Mary Estella Brown Ross Keys, 88, died Dec. 14, 2001 at Arkansas Health Center. She was born in Clark County July 25, 1913, daughter of the late Joe Ted and Nettie Francis Scott Brown. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gurdon, a member of Lake Hamilton Baptist Church and a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was the widow of Jewel "Jack" Ross and Clarke Keys.
Survivors include: A daughter, Betty Beaver; a son, Jack Ross; a sister, Doris Wright of Hot Springs; three brothers, Harvey Brown of Hot Springs, Kenneth Brown of Arlington, Texas, and Howard Brown of Texarkana, Texas; and 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandsons.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Horne Funeral Home chapel in Gurdon with Phillip Brown officiating. Burial will be in Easley Cemetery.

Sarah M. Scarlett
Sarah Mae Scarlett, 86, of Sparkman died Dec. 14, 2001 in Twin Rivers Health and Rehab. She was born May 16, 1915 at Sparkman, daughter of the late Elbert and Beatrice Russell Scarlett. She was a retired nurse and a member of First Baptist Church of Sparkman.
Survivors include: A brother, Pat Scarlett of Fordyce; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was today in Rock Springs Cemetery
with Rev. Wade Totty officiating. Burial was under the direction of Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
Esther Guinn
Esther Guinn, 85, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Hot Springs died Dec. 11, 2001. She was born Aug. 30, 1916 in Hot Springs, daughter of the late Isaac and Crissie Martin. she was a homemaker and a member of Greenwood Baptist Church of Hot Springs.
Survivors include: A son, Lawrence Guinn of Overland Park, Kan.; three daughters, Ernestine Warthon of Kansas City, Mo., Rosetta Lacefield of Hot Springs and Norway Guinn of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Connie Morgan of Chicago, Ill.; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was today in Greenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Nolen officiating. Burial was in Guinn Cemetery
at Hot Springs under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
John E. Conzel
ARKADELPHIA -- John E. "Jack" Conzel, 82, of Arkadelphia, formerly of Malvern, died Sunday, May 26, 2002 in Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Arkadelphia. He was born Oct. 2, 1919, son of the late Ed and Ettie Conzel. He was a retired electrician for Reynolds Metals Co., a World War II Army veteran and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Conzel and three sisters.
Survivors include: Two sons, Johnny Conzel of Arkadelphia and Ed Conzel of Gastonia, N.C.; four granddaughters, Ashley Conzel of Malvern, Kristen Conzel of Arkadelphia and Hallie and Shelby Conzel of Gastonia, N.C.; and one brother, Bill Conzel, and one sister, Audrey Teague of Malvern.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home chapel in Arkadelphia. Burial will be in Price Cemetery
between Malvern and Hot Springs.

Cleodia C. Buck
ARKADELPHIA -- Cleodia Elvina Caruthers Buck, 79, of Arkadelphia died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. She was born Oct. 26, 1922, daughter of Johnny Ewing and Fannie Azona Johnson Caruthers. She was a retired seamstress for Levi Strauss and a member of First United Pentecostal Church where she served as church secretary-treasurer for 25 years. She was the widow of Herman Dale "Shorty" Buck and was preceded in death by one son, Marion Edward Buck.
Survivors include: Three sons, Wayne Buck and his wife, Mae of Arkadelphia; Sammy Buck and his wife, Beverly of Quitman, Texas, and Randy Buck and his wife, Sherry of Bismarck; six grandchildren, Shelley Hughes, Marshall, Anthony, Aaron and Nathan Buck and Brandi Edwards; four step-grandchildren, Corey, Devin and Regan Ytzen and Shila Rowland; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Pentecostal Church of Arkadelphia with Rev. Richard Price officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery

William B. Kerr
LITTLE ROCK -- William Beecher "Bill" Kerr, 78, of Little Rock died Sept. 18, 2002. He was a graduate of Little Rock Senior High School and a World War II veteran. He attended Little Rock Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He was a former employee of Sears and Arkansas Power and Light Co. and was retired from Arkla Gas. He served as commander of the M.M. Eberts Post #1 of the American Legion and was a member of the Little Rock Rotary Club where he had served on the board of directors. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and the industrial committee of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and had served as company chairman of the United Way in Pulaski County, a member of the Diamond Club of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of America in the Eastern Arkansas Council.
Survivors include: Three sons, William Gregory of Little Rock and Richard Donavan and Frederick James of Hot Springs; a daughter, Kari Wahlquist of Little Rock; two stepsons, Harvey Bell of Little Rock and William Bell Jr. of Bismarck; a brother, Harry H. Kerr Jr.; a sister, Mae Josephine Jennings; and eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth chapel in Little Rock with Rev. Mary Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery.

GURDON -- Arvada B. Johnson, 76, of Gurdon died Sept. 14, 2002 at Baptist Helath Medical Center-Arkadelphia. She was born Aug. 27, 1926 in Mansfield, La. She was a homemaker and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: Her husband, Ollie Johnson of Gurdon.

Bessie D. Turner
BISMARCK -- Bessie Dell Turner, 72, of Bismarck died Sept. 29, 2002 at Glenwood Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 24, 1930 in Pasadena, Texas, daughter of the late Jesse James and Ethel Robbins. She was a homemaker and a member of Caney Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferman Turner and a son, Johnny Glen Turner.
Survivors include: A son, Jerry Turner of Ashdown; a brother, Jim Ed Robbins of Onalaska, Texas; and four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

AMITY -- James Ray Deaton, 81, of Amity died Oct. 1, 2002 at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock. He was born April 25, 1921 in Fendley, son of the late Jeff Green and Carrie Walker Deaton. He was a pipe fitter for Reynolds Metals Co., a Mason, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Third Street Baptist Church. He served as a justice of the peace on the Clark County Quorum Court.
Survivors include: His wife, Ima Jean Fulton Deaton; two sons, Keith Deaton of Amity and James Deaton of Benton; three daughters, Terry Sims of Arkadelphia, Delores Davidson of Amity and Brenda Falkowski of Deer Park, Texas; a brother, Bill Deaton of Amity; a sister, Mary Strother of Friendship; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was born June 6, 1922 in Donaldson, son of the late Carl Frederick Schultz and Ruth Lee Haley Schultz. He was a retired employee of International Paper Co, a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: His wife, Evelyn Irene Thompson Schultz; a son, David Schultz of Hot Springs; a daughter, Phyllis Lemons of Malvern; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
