Lavelle Eugene Gettings

Lavelle Eugene Gettings, 59, of Quinton, OK., passed away Oct. 15, 2006, in Quinton. He was born Feb. 12, 1947 in Pollard to John and Clara (Vaughn) Gettings.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of the home, five sisters, Narene Howard of Festus, MO., Christine Clifford of St. Louis, Alice Island, of Arnold, MO., June Neeley of McDougal, Maggie Jones, of Perry, KS., tow brothers, Wilburn Gettings of Piggott, J.D. Gettings of LaPorte, TX., and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by six siblings, Melvin Gettings, Lorene Clifford, Charles Gettings, Katherine Young, Bety Joyce Gettings, and Martha Ellen Gettings.

The funeral was at the Rock Church in Quinton, with the Rev. Carl Upton officiating. Pallbearers were Chris Meek, Allen Miller, J.W. Smith, Jerry Harmon, Earl Owens, Jaon Burch, and D.J. Burch. Honorary pallbearers were Caleb Abshere, David Shelton, Dwayne Shelton, and Donnie Ary.

Larry Alan Martin

Larry Alan Martin, 57, of Piggott, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was an Air Force veteran, a machinist for Federal Mogul and was an active member of the Harmony Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by wives Vicky Broadway Martin and Judy York Martin, mother Willa Dean Martin and son Keith Samples.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Martin of the home; his parents Robert C. and Imogene Martin; five sons Sean (Amy) Martin of Piggott, Bryan (Shelly) Samples of Piggott, Mark Samples of Paragould, Shannon (Brandy) Smart of Piggott and Shane (Brandy) Smart of Piggott; one brother, Reed (Susan) Wood III of Muskogee, Okla.; one sister, Teresa Wood of Wichita, Kans.; eleven grandchildren, Alek Samples, Hunter Samples, Bryan Samples, Gaige Martin, Hayden Samples, Haley Samples, Jeremy Samples, Tanner Smart, Ericka Smart, Aaren Smart and Taylor Smart; three nieces, Jennifer Webb, Kristen Gaca and Sarah Wood; two nephews, Addison Wood and Nathan Wood; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Brothers Jerry Massey, Tim McCleskey, Shelly Elkins and Charles Cooper officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Charles Adams, Frank Staples, Rick Staples, Gary Martin and Brent Sanders. Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Leroy Davis Brawner

Leroy Davis Brawner, 63, of Piggott, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 13, 1942 in Pollard, Ark. and was the son of the late Leon and Rose Davis Brawner. He was united in marriage to Joyce Cate Crossfield on June 11, 1994.

He was a retired mechanic for the United Parcel Service and an active member of the Mingo Tractor Club. He enjoyed organizing the Antique Tractor Show for the Clay County Fair and participating in and showing his antique tractor collection in area shows.

He was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, fulfilling many duties such as serving as an usher, serving as director of opening assembly and willing to serve in any other capacity as needed.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of the home; one daughter Karen Sharp and Rick of Chesterfield, Mo.; two sons Donnie Brawner and Karen of Springfield, Mo. and Jason Brawner of Ballwin, Mo.; one step-daughter Valerie Walker and Michael of Whaleyville, Md.; four grandchildren: Evan, Ashley, Alexis, and Lauren; one sister Charlotte Leona James of Crestwood, Mo.; one brother John Brawner and Pat of Piggott; two brothers-in-law; Granville Cate and JoAnn of Piggott and Carl Cate and Pat of Walnut Ridge; a sister-in-law Zilla Cate of Piggott and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 in the New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard with Loy Culver and Carl Cate officiating. Burial was in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ira Causey, Jerry Grider, Terry McCleskey, Mark Risby, Raymond Dismukes and Dale Grimes. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Neeley, Fred Gross, Glyn Yount, Melvin Holifield and Marion Brown. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy T. Jackson

Dorothy T. Jackson, 77, of St. Louis, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, in St. Louis.

She was the daughter of Greek immigrants, Theodore and Meropi Anastas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billy Bob Jackson, son-in-law Michael Drennen and James and Helen Georges.

Survivors include her a son William Dev (Andrea) Jackson of Overland Park, Kans., daughter Judith A. Drennen, a brother Theodore Anastas, Violet Anastas, George and Harry Anastas, sisters-in-law: Margo, Ruth and Christina Anastas and Owenetta Jackson; grandchildren, Alexander and Anee Sophia Jackson and Michael (Stephanie) Drennen and Christina Drennen, great granddaughter Tyra Dennen.

Funeral services were held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in St. Louis on Monday, Nov. 13. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Philoptochos Society.

Shirley Lochtan

Shirley Lochtan, 71, of Greenway, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

She was born February 3, 1935 in Rector and was the daughter of the late Aubry and Bessie McCord Redmon.

She was preceded in death by four brothers: Sam, Donald, Bill and Berl Ray Redmon, and one sister Barbara Jinkins.

Survivors include her daughter Marsha Matlock; one sister Dorotha Henderson of Marmaduke; a host of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 in Mitchell Cemetery with Elder Devon Horton officiating. Viewing was held Monday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time. Pallbearers were Ronnie Redmon, Dennis Redmon, Gary Redmon, Larry Redmon, Mike Redmon and Ted Goodman. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Breeding

James Breeding, 83, of Romulus, Mich., died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, in the Oakwood-Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, Mich.

He was born May 7, 1923 in Isom, Ky. and was the son of the late John D. and Martha Ison Breeding. He was united in marriage to Margaret Hogard on Oct. 28, 1945, and to this union one son was born.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; Grace, Ortha and Bertha; five brothers: Corbin, Carl, Cullen, Burnett and Van Breeding.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Breeding of Romulus, Mich.; one son Gary Breeding of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren: Bradley James Breeding and Deborah Jean Breeding both of Denver, Colo.; one brother John D. Breeding Jr. of Isom, Ky; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.

Carl Howard Williams

Carl Howard Williams, Sr., 75, of Piggott, died Nov. 15, 2006 at the NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Denver, Tenn., and was the son of the late Ira Howard and Madge Townsend Williams.

He was united in marriage to Pat Johnson on June 2, 1955, and had two children.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Williams of Piggott; son, Carl Howard Williams, Jr., of Piggott; daughter, Kim Haley and husband Mike of Piedmont, Mo.; one sister, Shirley Williams of Caruthersville; five grandchildren, Ethan, Andrew, Matthew, Ryan, and Tyler, one great-grandchild, Holden Jason, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Don Roeder, C.W. Knauts, Monty Sanders, Jim Winton, Cord Sutfin, and James Magee.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Edgar Gray

Charles Edgar Gray, 68, of Lake City died Monday at NEA Hospital in Jonesboro. He was retired from the Craighead County Highway Department in Black Oak and of the Pentecostal belief. Charles was a hunter and fisherman all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James J. and Nellie Opal Houston Gray, one brother and sister.

Survivors include: wife, Evelyn of the home; son, David Earl Gray of Paragould; brothers, Jerry Gray of Brookland, Wilman Gray of Paragould and Mike Gray of Jonesboro; sisters, Ruby Gray of Lake City, Hazel Williams of Oak Grove Heights and Elaine Osburn of Fort Scott, Kans.; and

cousins, Faye Fewins & LuCynda Warren of Piggott.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Steve Crawford officiating. Burial was in Pine Log Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jay and Andy Ritsmon, Gary, Jeff, Brandon and Justin Gray, David Cobb. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Craighead County Highway Department.

The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Letha Kay Wallace

Letha Kay Wallace, 51, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Piggott, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, in the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born on October 20, 1955 in Rockfalls, Ill., and was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Ann Crossfield. She was united in marriage to Gary Wallace on May 24, 1996.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Randy Shaw, and one sister, Sheila Smith Shaw.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Wallace of Poplar Bluff; five children, Dawn Hopson, Eric Tippitt, Jennifer Wallace, Kristin Wallace, and Michelle Wallace; four grandchildren, who called her "Nana," Christopher Smith, Steven Hopson, Dillan Hopson, and Atianna Tippitt; three sisters, Judy Shaw, Debbie Stewart, and Sue Bradford; four brothers, Robert Shaw, Shawn Shaw, Gary Shaw, and Rick Shaw, mother-in-law, Cora Mae Wallace, and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial Service was held at 1:00 p.m., at the South Thornton Church of Christ in Piggott. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Carl E. Williams

Carl E. Williams, 85, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1921 in Rector, the son of the late Almus M. Williams and Altha (Talley) Williams.

He was a very devoted husband, father and Papa who enjoyed gardening and traveling around the state. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sherwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl Williams, Harrison Williams and Cecil Williams; three sisters, Mabel Ballard, Faye Burton and Betty Birmingham and one granddaughter, Stefanie Harper.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Tressie; two daughters, Linda Harper and husband Dub of Sherwood and Cynthia Millheim and her fiance Doug Edwards of Ward; one son, Richard Brown of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Darlene Garner and husband Al of Missouri; one brother, Virl Williams and wife Faye of Ill., seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the First Baptist Church of Sherwood. Burial was in Rest Hills Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jayson Millheim, Joshua Millheim, Justin Millheim, Chadd Harper, W.H. (Dub) Harper and Doug Edwards.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas School for the Blind.

Doyne Hardin

Doyne Hardin, 82, of Pollard, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, in the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.

He was born December 21, 1923, in Crockett, the son of the late Robert Henry and Minnie Florence Carpenter Hardin.

He was united in marriage to Roberta Ayres on June 26, 1949.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, two sons, one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Hardin of Pollard; three sons, James Cooper of Lebanon Junction, Ky., Michael Hardin of Pollard, and Danny Lee Hardin of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 in the Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Loy Culver and Charles Carrens officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Grider, Wayne Hendley, Eddie Hendley, Nick Yount, Joe Davis and Joshua Hendley. Burial was in the Mars Hill Cemetery in Crockett. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
