Ed Jones

Ed Jones, 82, of Piggott died Thursday, May 11, 2006, in Piggott.

He was born April 4, 1924, in Cardwell, the son of the late Sam and Maggie Riggs Jones.

He worked for Clay County for several years and had numerous rental properties.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Saul, Cecil, Jim, Charley, Bill and Gene Jones, Paul Shaw and Vernon Weaver; and three sisters, Eunice Jones, Ida Holcomb and Pauline Tinsley.

He is survived by one son, Larry Jones of Springdale; one daughter, Tina Gossett and husband, David, of Piggott; two grandchildren, Kody Swink and Taelor Lewis; two brothers, Clyde Jones of Piggott and Cleton Jones of Dyess; three sisters, Pauline Ewing of Paragould, Ruby Stahl of Harrah, Okla., and Elwanda Miller of Piggott; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Johnny Bradshaw officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff Midgett, Mark Lewis, Mike Swink, Pete Hoggard, Rick Jones and Terry Jones.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Roceda Joyce Knauts

Roceda Joyce Knauts, 69, of Kennett died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at her home.

She was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Senath, the daughter of the late Homer and Alma Rhodes Lillard.

She was united in marriage to Donald H. Crittendon. He preceded her in death in April of 1961.

Mrs. Knauts was the owner of Merle Norman in Kennett. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kennett.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeri Dawn Posey of Alexander, Va., and Teri Lynn King of Nashville; two brothers, Gaylon Lillard of Dexter and Larry Don Lillard of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Bradley Tucker of Kennett, Keri French, Kristen King and Ryan King, all of Nashville; and one great-grandchild, Logan Tucker of Fairfax, Va.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Bradhaw Funeral Home in Kennett with Bro. Ed Jansson officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Kennett.

Bradshaw Funeral Homes Inc. of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.

Robin Dean (Douglas) Goldsmith

Robin Dean (Douglas) Goldsmith, 46, of Cahokia, Ill., died Friday, May 5, 2006, in Columbia, Ill.

She was born Jan. 9, 1960, in East St. Louis, Ill.

Mrs. Goldsmith was a retired factory worker.

Survivors include her husband, Lenny Goldsmith of Cahokia, Ill.; her daughter, Tara Jean Goldsmith of Cahokia, Ill.; her parents, Billy and Betty Jean (Stewart) Douglas; a brother, Donald Douglas of Columbia, Ill.; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Werdie Stephens of Freeburg, Ill.; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and dear friends.

Memorial services were held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2006, at Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, Ill., with Neal Watson and Elder Larry Ridenour Sr. officiating. Burial followed in Lake View Memorial gardens in Fairview Heights, Ill.

Lake View Funeral Home of Fairview Heights, Ill., was in charge of the arrangements.

Marilyn Gallagher King

Marilyn Gallagher King was born on Feb. 17, 1928, to Earl and Edith Gallagher in Butler, Pa., and died on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the age of 78.

She was united in marriage on Nov. 23, 1946, to James W. King in Detroit, Mich. They had three children - Sharon, Kim and Jim.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior on March 30, 1952, and was a faithful and loving servant her entire life. Her presence and encouraging words and smile will be greatly missed. She was an active member of Hitt's Chapel General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edith Gallagher; one sister, Shirley Reynolds; and one daughter, Sharon King Wright.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James W. King of Piggott; one daughter, Kim Maclin and husband, Darrel, of Sikeson; one son, Jim King and wife, Rhonda, of Marion; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Colleen Kellstrom of Tavares, Fla.; and many other relatives and close Christian friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (today), May 24, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott, with her son, Rev. Jim King, officiating. Rev. Charles Richardson and Rev. Shawn Parker will assist him. Burial will follow in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler and Trey Brooks, Justin and Seth King, Brian Wright and Scott Harrell.

Velia Doris Montgomery

Velia Doris Montgomery, 73, of Piggott died on Saturday, May 13, 2006.

She was born April 5, 1933, at Smithville and was the daughter of the late Varner James and Darzie Lee (Watson) Holland.

She was united in marriage to Charles A. Burnine who preceded her in death in 1966. Two daughters, Shelia and Shirley, were born to the couple. On Nov. 8, 1969, she was united in marriage to Gaylon L. Montgomery who preceded her in death on July 24, 2003. One daughter, June, was born to the couple.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Lindsey and Vonda Algiers.

She is survived by three daughters, Shelia Burnine of Piggott, Shirley Glass and husband, Clark, of Piggott and June Jones and husband, James, of Pollard; five grandchildren, John and Seth Glass and Zackery, Veronica and Raelyn Jones; four brothers, Vance Holland and wife, Jan, of Farmington, Mo., Velmar Holland of DeSoto, Mo., Jim Holland and wife, Joan, of St. Peters, Mo., and Larry Holland and wife, Joyce, of Hillsboro, Mo.; two sisters, Debbie Holland of Massachusetts and Verlean Spears of Lodi, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday (today), May 17, 2006, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott with Jerry Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway.

Ethel Marie Book Hampton

Ethel Marie Book Hampton, 86, of Marion died Friday, May 26, 2006, at the Willowbend Nursing Home in Marion.

She was born Sept. 20, 1919, the daughter of the late Riley Lewis and Lottie B. Parton Book.

Mrs. Hampton was a member of the General Baptist Church of Piggott.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Hampton; two daughters, Carol Jean and Norma Lee; one son, Louis Elbert; one brother, Johnny Book; and two sisters, Virgie Binkley and Edith Simpson.

She is survived by four daughters, Lottie Platt of Marion, Mary Martin and Patricia Tyler, both of Manila, and Judy Hobbs of Louisville, Ky.; three sons, Charles Hampton of Proctor, and John Hampton and Earl Hampton, both of Michigan City, Ind.; three brothers, Ray Book, J.B. Book and Doilous Book, all of Piggott; three sisters, Faye Predmore of Campbell, Texas, Margie Jones of Duran, Mich., and Louise Harmon of Kennett; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Cain Wheeler officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Randy Martin, Lonnie Hampton, Allen Hampton, Arlie Platt Jr., Jeff Tyler, Ray Hampton, Anthony Hampton, and her great-grandson, Brian Millikin.

Joe West

Joe West, 44, of Rector died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Doctor's Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born June 23, 1961, in Watervliet, Mich., the son of Harold Edward and Johnnie Mae (Keown) West.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold West; maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Wanna Keown; and paternal grandparents, Jim and Arizona West.

He is survived by his mother, Johnnie West of Rector; one sisters, Kathleen West of Starke, Fla.; three brothers, Doyle West of Springfield, Ga., Darrell West of Rector and Richard West of Paragould; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Davey Winberry officiating. Burial followed in Kinsey Cemetery in Fairdealing, Mo. Pallbearers were George Keown, Larry Keown, Jerry Keown, Glen Black, Thad Loggin and William Loggin.

Andrew Gordon Blake

Andrew Gordon Blake, 22, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., great-nephew of Patsy Pobst of Piggott and great-grandson of the late Arthur and Edna Underwood, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1983, in St. Joseph, Mich. He moved from Detroit in 1989 to Tarpon Springs. He went to East Lake High School in Palm Harbor. He enjoyed playing football.

In 1998 he moved back to Michigan to be close to his family there and went to St. Joseph High School. He returned to Florida as a self-employed landscaper. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunedin and was baptized there.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Bernita L. Gordon Blake-Foster and Dean A. Foster of St. Joseph, Mich.; his father and stepmother, Rollie Jay Blake and Bonnie (Cross) Blake of Tarpon Springs; three brothers, Rollie Jamese Blake and Matthew Cross of Tarpon Springs, and Jameson Cross of Gainesville, Fla.; his sister, Amber Blake of Clearwater, Fla.; his grandparents, Bernice E. Gordon of Stevensville, Mich., Joan Blake of St. Joseph, Mich., the Fosters of Galien, Mich., and Geri Chisholm of Tarpon Springs.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 13, at Curlew Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Palm Harbor, Fla. Rev. Joe Teague from the First United Methodist Church of Dunedin, Fla., officiated. Blessings of family were given by his parents and brother and a letter from niece, Kayla Blake. Pallbearers were R.J. Blake, Amber Blake, Matthew Cross, Jameson Cross, Patrick Tiller and John Blake. A cage of doves was released by R.J. Blake at the end of the funeral.

Bobby G. Webb Sr.

Bobby G. Webb Sr., 69, of Piggott died Aug. 31, 2006, at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1936, in Corning and was the son of the late John Henry and Lola Gunnels Webb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Charles Travis Hosea, and a great-grandson, Austin Tyler Higdon.

He is survived by his wife, Eithel Webb of Pollard, whom he married June 4, 1955; two sons, Bobby Webb and wife Susie of Piggott, and John Webb and wife Patricia of Green Forest, Ark.; a daughter, Rebecca Hosea and husband Charles of Pollard; seven grandchildren, Mona Cloninger of Pollard, Chantel Higdon of Jacksonville, Ark., Emily James of Piggott, Michael Webb of Valdosta, Ga., Millicent Webb of Piggott, Inga and Scott Webb of Green Forest; six great-grandchildren, Alivia, Bridget and Caitlin Cloninger, Adalie and Avery Higdon and Dalton James; brothers, Henry and Dennis Webb and Jackie Gilbee; sisters, Thelma Vaughn, Reba McBride, Zerna Cauble, Shirley Maples, Marcella Faucet, Joy Speaks and Lorene and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Sept. 3, in the Cummins Chapel Cemetery with Gary Hancock officiating. Burial was in the Cummins Chapel Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Harold D. Clayton

Harold D. Clayton, 71, of Oscoda, Mich., formerly of Pontiac, Mich., died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006.

He was born Feb. 12, 1935, in Tokio, Ark. Clayton moved to Pontiac in 1957 and began a career that spanned 30 years with General Motors at the Truck and Bus plant. He served with the United States Army from 1958-1960 and later married Marie A. Brimhall on July 10, 1970, in Indiana. They moved to Oscoda in 1995, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a baseball fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He served several years as a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the UAW Local #594.

He is survived by his wife Marie; four sons, Kenneth (Kelly) Clayton of White Lake, Mich., Douglas Danielson of Pontiac, Mich., David (Marion) Danielson of St. Ignace, Mich., and Dennis (Judi) Danielson of Douglasville, Ga.; three sisters; Naomi Brannan of Arkansas, Melba Broadway of Arkansas and Shirley (J.B.) Perry of Arkansas; a brother Mickey (Ann) Clayton of Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Coats Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Alberta Mann Gartman

Alberta Mann Gartman, 88, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Adberdeen, Miss.

She was born Dec. 22, 1917, to Albert Pillow and Agnes Daniels Pillow in Clay County. She had lived in Abderdeen since 1956, where she worked as a store clerk for McDuffie Drug Store. She was a member of the Aberdeen First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil "Pete" Mann, and one brother, Dan Pillow.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth W. Mann and wife Clara of Clinton, Miss.; three grandchildren, Karen Mann, Kathryn Anderson and Chris Mann.

Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 28, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home. Hoggard and Sons was also in charge of the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Together We Build Fund" at the Aberdeen First Baptist Church.
