Nelldean Akers
Nelldean Akers, 81, of Piggott, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at her home in Piggott.
She was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Datto, the daughter of the late Randall and Ora Henderson Smith.
She was united in marriage to Pleas "P.H." Henderson Akers on Nov. 1, 1941, in Kennett. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2004.
Akers worked as a sales clerk for Hamra's Department Stores and a checker for several grocery stores in Kennett. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott. She was also a member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliaries in Kennett.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Akers; and one grandson, Scot Akers.
She is survived by three sons, Johnny Akers and wife, Karen, of San Bernardino, Calif., David Akers and wife, Becky, of Pheonix and Michael Akers and wife, Jacy, of Paragould; two daughters, Marilyn Low and husband, Myron, of Piggott and Brenda Dicus and husband, James, of Kennett; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Akers of Memphis; one brother, Glenn Smith of Pheonix; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott with Rev. Kim Bridges and Rev. Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery
at Kennett.
McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie Harold White
Jimmie Harold White, 68, of Piggott died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Pulaski, Tenn., the son of the late Millard Boyd and Ovie Mae (Dugger) White.
He was united in marriage to Nellie Weller on Dec. 25, 1981.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for about 40 years and was also a member of New Piggott Chapter Order of Eastern Star number 623.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Millard, George and Garland; and one sister, Eva.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie of Piggott; three daughters, Marla Miller and husband, J.B., of Williford, Lori Kilgrove and husband, Dave, of McClure, Ill., and Shelley Doty and husband, Ronnie, of Pocahontas, Ill.; one son, Jimmie White and wife, Ann, of Granite City, Ill.; two stepchildren, Cecil Mitchell and wife, Patty, of Chester, Va., and Teresa Mitchell of Granite City, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Timmy, Zack, Casey, Tyler, Kelsey, Taylor, Shawn and Heather; four stepgrandchildren, Raymond, Gary, Sarah and Michelle; one great-grandson, Dakota; one brother, Maylon White and wife, Imogene, of Trumann; two sisters-in-law, Agnes White of Trumann and Joan White of Kennett; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, in the New Hope Cemetery
at Pollard. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were his Masonic brothers.

Rebecca Lorene (Haywood) Staples
Rebecca Lorene (Haywood) Staples, 81, of Piggott died Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Med Center in Memphis.
She was born April 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Herbert and Neatie (Edwards) Haywood.
She was united in marriage to Wayne Staples on Dec. 26, 1945. They had three children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; two sisters, Betty Perry and Thelma Moreland; two brothers, Doyne and Vernon Haywood; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by three children, Dorenda Hanna and husband, Johnny, of Wapiti, Wyo., Frank Staples and wife, Donna, of Piggott, and Ricky Staples and Rex Anne of Piggott; two granddaughters, Rebecca Hanna and Stephanie Jett and husband, Robert; two grandsons, Adam Staples and wife, Nicole, and Joey Staples and wife, Ambra; five great-grandchildren, Allison and Madison Crittenden, and Sierra, Devin and Briar Staples; four step-great-grandchildren, Drew, Laura, Will and Beau Jett; five sisters, Almereda Lack, Berneda Dees, June Thompson, Bonnie Perry and Rosalie Lillyroot; four brothers, Jimmy, Jackie, Larry and Leroy Haywood; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery
in Piggott. Active pallbearers were Jack Haywood, Jimmy Haywood, Leroy Haywood, Brett Haywood, Adam Staples and Neil Perry. Honorary pallbearer was Larry Haywood.

Helen Webster
Helen Webster, 90, of Piggott died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the NEA Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Poley Dow and Daisy Francis (Moore) Simpson.
She was united in marriage to Silas Webster on Oct. 14, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1985. They had four children.
Webster committed her life to Christ at a young age.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by infant twin sons; one brother, J.B. Simpson; and three sisters, Nina Fisher, Thelma Vaughn and Edith Lusk.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Donald Webster and wife, Jane, of Piggott; her daughter, Janalue Binkley and husband, Lester, of Piggott; eight grandchildren, Latraca Lowe and husband, Eddie, of Doniphan, Mo., Christie Risinger and husband, Tommy, of Piggott, Holly Kirk and husband, Steve, of Keiser, David Binkley and wife, Lori, of Eminence, Mo., Tammy Boone and husband, Jeff, of Paragould, Michael Binkley and wife, Shelia, of Jonesboro, Angie Mooneyham and husband, Brent, of Jonesboro and Amie Miller and husband, Ron, of Midland, Texas; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (today), June 28, 2006, at Call's Chapel General Baptist Church in Piggott with David Binkley and Tim Noel officiating. Burial will follow in the Piggott Cemetery
in Piggott. Pallbearers will be Charles Pollard, Carl Pollard, Dallas Pollard, Terry Pollard, Stacy Vaughn and Linuel Tate.

Lorene Eloise Baker
Lorene Eloise Baker, 85, formerly of Pollard, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley, Miss.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer William Baker; parents, Charlie and Lula (Richardson) Ellis; one son, Gary Baker; two sisters, Thela Jane Stinett and Beatrice Thompson; and two brothers, Charlie Ellis and Bill Ellis.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Mallard of Hebron, Ind., Gloria Croy of Hernando, Miss., and Rita Hodnett of Winter Haven, Fla.; three sons, Tommy Baker of Water Valley, Miss., Edward Baker of Estero, Fla., and Cecil Baker of Clarksville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Homer Ellis of Wheatley; and many other loving friends and family members.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006, in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, Miss., with Rev. Freddie Moorman officiating. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2006, at New Hope Cemetery
in Pollard.

Jimmie Robert Travillian
Jimmie Robert Travillian, 77, of Rector died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
Born July 13, 1928, in Rector to the late Robert Newton Travillian and Lula (Edwards) Travillian, he was a service man and meter reader for the Clay County Rural Water Association. He was an Army veteran of the
Korean War and a member of Hitts Chapel General Baptist Church.
He was married April 2, 1953, to Ella Mae (Turner) Travillian, who preceded him in death Feb. 23, 1990. He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin Vangilder in 1988; two brothers, Doyne Dewayne Travillian and Garlan Doyle Travillian, and one sister, Geraldine Beal.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Ann Travillian of Rector; one daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Alvin Vangilder of Rector; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy, Josh and Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Patrick, Skye, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Zoe, and three sisters, Neva Mowery of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Martene Davis of Rector and Lorene Garewood of Kennett.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Charles Richardson and Bro. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery
with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Donald Mowery, Jerry Beal, Tony Gatewood, Jack Travillian, Danny Burkheart and Mike Jetton. Honorary pallbearers were James Dale, James Vangilder, Wayne Pruett, Burl Haley, Leroy Gatlin and Linuel Tate.
Joyce Lee Burr
Joyce Lee Burr, 67, of Niles, Mich., formerly of Rector, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, in Memorial Hospital at South Bend, Ind.
She was born June 23, 1938, in Paragould to the late Everett Highfill and Audie Walker and was married Dec. 22, 1984, to Jack Burr. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, James, Danny and Harry Highfill, and one sister, Mary Sterling.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Burr; children, Danny and Sheila Leiss of Mt. Morris, Mich., Rick and Marcy Leiss of Flint, Mich., Sheila and Charles Harris of Wayland, Mich., Max Ross of Edwardsburg, Mich., Leo and Kim Ross of Niles, Mich.; stepchildren, Terry and Janie Burr of Auburn, Ky., and Lesa and Joe Morgan of Picacho, Ariz.; three sisters, Barbara and Arlos O'Dell of St. Charles, Mo., and Sharon Grubbs and Annetta Greenway, both of Piggott; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Jimmy Parrish officiating. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery
at Greenway with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ernest Lee "Dick" Hall
Ernest Lee "Dick" Hall, 78, of Piggott died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at his home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Morrilton, the son of the late Andy and Claudia Cook Hall.
He was united in marriage to Patti Casper on Sept. 18, 1959.
He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Piggott.
He is survived by his wife, Patti Hall of Piggott; one son, Leroy Hall and wife, Brenda, of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Claudia Lea and husband, Jim, of Cleveland, Texas; one grandson, Ross Lea and wife, Kari, of Sutton, Alaska; one granddaughter, Ginger Blacksmith and husband, Chris, of Greenbrier; six great-grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey Blacksmith and Sarah, Hannah, Drake and Jonathan Lea; his church families in Piggott and Zapata, Texas, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bro. Joe Payne and Bro. Roger Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Stanfield Cemetery

Bernice Moore
Bernice Moore, 95, of Piggott died Sunday, July 30, 2006, in the N.H.C. Healthcare Center in Kennett.
She was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Morganton, the daughter of the late Omer and Bessie Allison Graddy.
She was united in marriage to Hudson Moore on Jan. 10, 1932. They had five children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson; one son, Hudson Linuel Moore; one grandson, one sister and two brothers.
Mrs. Moore was a charter member of Call's Chapel General Baptist Church and was very active in its programs and helping others.
She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Sneed and husband, Thomas, of Piggott, Sharon Miller of Piggott, Judy Reed and husband, Vivan, of Piggott and Paige Scott and husband, Barry, of McCrory; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maudie Coomer of Piggott; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with James Henry Dortch, Jerry Morgan and Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery
in Piggott. Pallbearers were Thomas Sneed, Vivan Reed, Barry Scott, Bryan Blackshare, Paul Seegraves, Chris Lawless, Travis Scott and Tyler Scott.
