Wayne Rodery
Wayne Rodery, 81, of Bernie, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at the Malden Nursing Center.
He was born in Clay County on March 21, 1923, son of the late Joe Rodery and Ethel Mae George Rodery.
He was united in marriage to Helen Marie Blevins on Dec. 20, 1947, in St. Louis. She preceded her husband in death on March 13, 1990.
He attended the Nazarene Church of Bernie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Floyd Rodery; and one grandson.
He is survived by three sons, Darrell Rodery of Bernie, Kenneth Rodery of Wappapello and Timothy Rodery of Bernie; two daughters, Brenda Caplinger of Parma and Karen Lynn Hunter of Rolla; three brothers, Hillard Rodery of Cartersville, Ga., Laverne Rodery of Campbell and Carlos Rodery of Brighton, Mich.; one sister, Anna Lee Nichols of Piggott; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Wells officiating.
Burial was at the Bernie Cemetery
with full 
military honors.
Virgil Wagster
Virgil Wagster, 88, of Harviel, Mo., died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center North Campus.
He was born June 30, 1915, in Clay County, the son of Rev. John and Rilley Boyd Wagster.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Dunbar in 1952. She preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 1991.
Mr. Wagster was a resident of Harviel for 49 years, prior to that he lived in Broseley, Mo. He was a member of the Lone Oak General Baptist Church. He joined the Coast Guard in the late 1930's. When World War II began he was transferred to the Navy. After serving in the Navy, he moved back to Butler County and went to work at the V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff as a plant operator in the engineering division. He retired from the center in 1969. He also farmed and raised cattle.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Wagster; his parents, Rev. John and Rilley Wagster; one brother, John Franklin Wagster; and one sister, Leona Aldrich.
He is survived by one sister, Moreda Glass of Brosley; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at the White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk, Mo., with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial followed in Brown Chapel Cemetery.

Neva Cox Bradford
Neva Cox Bradford, 89, died June 21, 2004 at St. Bernards Regional Medical center.
She was born July 9, 1914, in Piggott, daughter of William Orley and Alda Hennager Cox.
She was united in marriage to Glover Bradford on Feb. 9, 1935. They had five children. She was a member of the General Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Ladies' Aid. She was employed by the Piggott School system for 16 years in the cafeteria.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son; and four brothers, Doyle Cox, Delbert Cox, Dorris Cox and Randall Cox.
She is survived by two daughters, Ella Jean Mack and husband, Clarence, of Piggott, and Linda Benson and husband, Dan, of Tyler, Texas; two sons, Joel Bradford and wife, Rita of Little Rock, and Melvin Bradford and wife, Jackie, of Little Rock; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Hill of Greenway; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday), June 23, at the General Baptist Church in Piggott with Joe Payne officiating.
Pallbearers were James Featherston, Mike Hill, Kris Pollard, Phil Pollard, Terry Pollard and Gerald Morris.
Burial was in the Piggott Cemetery
with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of arrangements.
Winard Steward
Winard Steward, 64, of Piggott died Sunday, June 20, 2004, in the Piggott Community Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Holcomb, son of the late Herman and Dimple Lennie Hicks Steward.
He was united in marriage to Gearldean Tankersley on June 19, 1958. They had three children.
He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Aurora, Ill., after 30 years, and was a lifetime member of the UAW.
He was preceded in death by one son, Rickie Steward; two sisters, Evalene Schnabel and Nellie Suhar; and one brother, Mandel Steward.
He is survived by his wife of Piggott; one son Leonard Steward and wife, Mary, of Piggott; one daughter, Linda Hall and husband, Danny, of Joliet, Ill.; four grandchildren, Tabitha Hall, Katie Hall, Kaela Steward and Leanna Steward; one brother, Sherman Steward of Holcomb; two sisters, Louella Burkman of Piggott and Marcella Torres of Campbell; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, (Wednesday) June 23, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Loy Culver officiating.
Burial was in the Piggott Cemetery
with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Danny Hall, Allen Edwards, Randy Steward, Mike Edwards, Gary Edwards and Jamie Whorton.
Dencial E. Crews
Dencial E. Crews, 71, of Piggott, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his home.
He was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Boydsville, the son of the late Virgil and Flossie McElyea Crews.
He married Norma Harrell on Nov. 9, 1951, and they had three children.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Staggs.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Crews, of the home; one son, Denny Michael Crews of Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Sherry Gunn and husband, Charles, of West Helena, and Lisa Wilkinson and husband, Roger, of Memphis; three grandchildren, Rachel Haedge, Jamie Gunn, and Eric Wilkinson; one brother, Donald Crews of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Sandra Shephard of Osceola; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Jack Bearden and Futrell Butler officiating.
Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Caldwell, Charles Gunn, Marshall Wheeler, Jim Howell, Leland Gibson and Roger Wilkinson.

Joey Fry
Joey Fry, 39, of Piggott died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Little Rock.
He was born Nov. 14, 1964, in Piggott, the son of James Dallas and Genetta Parks Fry.
He is survived by one son, Chad Allen Fry of Hardy, Ark.; his mother, Genetta Fry of Piggott; his father, James Dallas Fry and wife, Sharon, of Campbell; three brothers, Benny Fry and wife, Susan, Lynn Fry and wife, Pam, and Todd Fry, all of Piggott; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, at Williams Cemetery
with Jerry Massey officiating. Pallbearers were Benny Fry, Lynn Fry, Todd Fry, Joe Forbes, Jerry Forbes and Nathaniel Heskett.

Zora M. Watson
Zora M. Watson, 95, of Piggott died Saturday, July 31, 2004, in the Westwood Hills Health Care in Poplar Bluff.
She was born Sept. 26, 1908, in Pollard, the daughter of the late Lenzey Vard and Lula Belle Johnson Underwood.
She was united in marriage to Loy Roosevelt Watson on Dec. 24, 1924, and they had three children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Roosevelt Watson in 1959; one grandson; one son-in-law; four sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by three daughters, Jane Moffitt and husband, Dalphus, of Poplar Bluff, Jean Wheeler and husband, David, of Piggott and Jerry Lean Ivester of Onaway, Mich.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Heitala of Redwood Valley, Calif.; one brother, James Underwood of Little Rock; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Gary Hancock officiating. Burial followed in the New Hope Cemetery
in Pollard. Pallbearers were Stanley Moffitt, Leon Moffitt, Stanley Ivester, Mike Ivester, Grover Baker and Charles Moffitt. Honorary pallbearers were Dalton Moffitt, Burl Moffitt, Maynard Morris and Charles Carrens.

Stephen Douglas Pollock
Stephen Douglas Pollock, 57, died June 15 after an 18-month struggle with cancer.
He was the grandson of the late James W. and Sylvania Throgmarton and the late Thomas Kyle and Ardelia Mayo Pollock, who will be remembered by older Piggott residents.
He was born Feb. 6, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., to Charlene Pollock and the late James C. Pollock. He was a graduate of Redford High School and the School of Social Work at Eastern Michigan University and enjoyed a life-long love of music and theater.
Pollock's desire to have a career helping others began at Northville State Hospital. He worked at Lafayette Clinic and Ypsilanti State Hospital as a licensed social worker and was particularly successful in developing innovative residential treatment programs for mental health patients. With 29 years in state social services, he retired from the Michigan Family Independence Agency. He then became Executive Director of the Michigan network for youth and families, where he worked to reenergize and equip a growing network of over 30 member social service groups serving communities across the state.
As a highly-sought consultant, he was asked to write and review grant proposals, both in the state and Washington, serving on the Federal Policy Board. Before his illness forced him to retire from MNYF, whose board presented him with a lifetime achievement award, he was consulting with Eastern Michigan University to update their Masters' Program for Social Workers to reflect much of the criteria he had learned through years of hands-on training.
Pollock is greatly missed by his loving friends and family; his life-long service and giving will continue to benefit many young people.
He is survived by his mother, Charlene Pollock Weigle of Novi, Mich.; his brother, Kyle Pollock and wife, Ruth, of Eldridge, Iowa; two nieces, Elizabeth Pollock of Norwalk, Conn., and Kristin Pollock of Chicago; two nephews, Mike Pollock of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Stephen Todd Pollock and wife, Corinna, and their children, Oliver and Isabelle of Erie, Colo.
Private graveside services were held for family and close friends on Friday, July 9, at Acacia Park Cemetery
in Southfield, Mich.
A celebration of his life was held Saturday, July 10, at the Michigan League in Ann Arbor with Father Ken Chase as director. A slide presentation of his life through photographs and set to the music he loved, which had been lovingly prepared by his nephews and nieces, was given. This was followed by talks by his brother and colleagues from various agencies, reading of poetry written by him and closed with a trumpet solo by his nephew, Mike Pollock.
Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Network for youth and families, Arbor Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
Eugene M. "Bud" French
Eugene M. "Bud" French, 80, of Pollard died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.
He was born April 15, 1924, in Piggott, the son of the late Barney and Arabell Doty French.
He was united in marriage to Charlene Palmer on Jan. 14, 1950. They had four children.
He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Daniel Harmon, Marcus and Garrett French; two brothers, Sonny French and Leroy French; one sister, Madeline Chase; his step-father, Onia McKenney; and two step-brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene French of Pollard; two sons, Gary French and wife, Laura, of Piggott and Larry French and wife, Michelle, of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Barbara Harmon and husband, Ted, of Pollard and Martha Capps and husband, Reginald, of North Little Rock; five grandchildren, Hillary, Haley and Hunter French, Anthony French and Emily Harmon; one step-grandson, Barry Capps; one step-brother, Frank McKenney, and one step-sister, Dora Causey, both of Piggott; and many other relatives and friends.
