CHARLES DAWSON
Mr. Charles Dawson, 79 of Bryant passed away December 6, 2004. He was born February 24, 1925 to Roy and Florence Dawson of Hazen, Arkansas. He was a retired Superintendent for Matson Construction Company for 30 years, and a WWII Army Veteran, and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Nathan and Raymond Dawson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janie Dawson of Bryant, one son, Forrest and Elaine Dawson of Little Rock; three daughters, Charla and Pat Golding of Little Rock; Letha and Russell Hoover and Vanessa and John Hill, all of Bryant. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Chuck, Lee, Catrina, Charley, Clint, Nathan, Mary Grace, and Clara Beth, seven great-grandchildren, Grant Brandon, Payton, Parker, Wyatt, Clayton and Dillon and two more on the way, sisters, Modean Kee, Hazen, Marcelle Raper, Joyce and Kenneth Floyd, Margie and Gene Vail, all of Stuttgart; and sister-in-law, Martha Sue Dawson of Lonoke.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Bryant with burial at Center Point Cemetery
in Hazen at 1:00 PM Thursday by Ashby Funeral Home in Benton. Ministers will be Rev. John Owen and Rev. Mark Thorton.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Ashby’s.
Memorials may be made to the First Missionary Baptist Church in Bryant Building Fund or to the Center Point Cemetery
in Hazen.
JERRY DALE DOSS
Jerry Dale Doss, 68-year-old resident of Benton, died January 22, 2005 at his home.
Mr. Doss was born on July 30, 1936 in Ashley County, Arkansas to his parents Alvin Doss and Zella Mae Meeks. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and a beloved member of the community for many years
Jerry is survived by his wife Credonna Doss, his daughters Ladonna Stroud and husband Jeff of Chidester, AR, Sharon Harris and Husband Mike of Benton and Patti Stroud also of Benton. He is also survived by his sister Charlene Glenn of Benton, grandchildren; Jerry Kyle Jackson, Daron Brent Jackson, Sharon LaCrissa Klober and Tarra Lynn Turney, great-grandchildren; Devon Jackson, Aaron Jackson, Savannah Jackson, J.D. Turney, Jacie Jackson and Riley Klober.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lois Meyers and his grandson Stephen Blake Jackson.
Services are to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sharon Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Hamlin and Bro. Muncy Harris officiating.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 Monday at Ashby Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers are Larry Parsons, Denzel Dyer, Kyle Jackson, Daron Jackson, David Glenn, Ross Reeves, Rodney Spradlin and Ron Koehn. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Hathcoat, Roy Wright, Murray Johnson and Ray Hester.
The family has asked that donations be sent in lieu of flowers to the building fund for Sharon Baptist Church.
VAN TRAVIS BARNETT
Van Travis Barnett, 71 year-old resident of Benton, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Saline Memorial Hospital
Mr Barnett was born August 5, 1933 in Garland County, Arkansas to Asbury and Mary Barnett. He served in the Army and retired from the Rock Island Railroad where he was a welder. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and was of the Baptist faith.
Van Travis is survived by his son, Terry Barnett and wife Karen of Dubach, La; a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Barnett on Benton ; several nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend Hulon Lewis of Benton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Barnett, his parents, three brothers and five sisters.
Graveside services are to be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ten Mile Cemetery
with Pastor Andrew Keck of Lonsdale Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation will be on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Ashby Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be nephews of Mr. Barnett.
MARY IRENE BRYANT
Mary Irene Bryant, 75-year-old resident of Alexander, died Saturday January 22, 2005 at her home.
Mrs. Bryant was born August 25, 1929 to Charles “Dud” and Rena Matthews in Pulaski County. She was also a member of Bryant United Methodist Church.
Mary is survived by her son William “Bill” Bryant of Alexander, her daughter Darla Maness of Alexander, two sisters, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William J. Bryant and her son Bruce A. Bryant
Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Reeves officiating. Interment is at Ivey Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Bryant is to be from 6-8 p.m. Monday night at Ashby
LINDA CARMELA EUBANKS
Linda Carmela Eubanks Giggar, 46, of Traskwood, passed away January 23, 2005. She was a Registered Nurse and Girl Scout Leader for 8 years. Linda was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where she taught Sunday School.
Linda was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Phillips and grandmother, Jennie Bell. She is survived by a son, Roger A. Eubanks, Jr. of Farmington, Ark.; three daughters, Angela, Anna, and Megan Eubanks, all of Traskwood; parents, Wilburn and Carmela Phillips; brother, David Phillips and wife Rayne of Benton; sister, Jennifer Ferrell and husband Jeff of Bryant.
The Rosary will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Ashby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Fatima with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery

JOHN DOUGLAS OPITZ
John Douglas Opitz, age 79, of Benton; passed away Sunday January 23, 2005. He was born on January 26, 1925 in Conway, Arkansas. Mr. Opitz was an electrical supervisor at Reynolds Mining. He was preceded in death by his parents, (John) Otis J. and Nettie Beatrice Moore Opitz and his wife, Ernestine Opitz.
He is survived by his brother, Otis L. Opitz; sister, Connie Zumwalt both of Benton ; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at New Rosemont Cemetery. Dr. Rick Grant will be officiating.
WILLIE BLAKLEY
Willie Mae Blakley, age 71, of Benton; passed away Monday January 24, 2005. She was born on January 14, 1934 in Haskell, Arkansas. Mrs. Blakley was a beautician and a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosa Mae Davis and her husband, Herbert Blakley.
She is survived by her son, James Winfield Blakley; daughter, Deborah Blakley Watley and a sister, Gladys Blakley all of Benton.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at Ashby Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The minister will be Bro. Mark Blakley.
DAISY SCOTT
Mrs. Daisy Alma Brazil Igou Scott, age 91, of Benton died at Saline Memorial Hospital, Benton, Arkansas Thursday, February 17, 2005 after a brief illness. Born June 17, 1913 in the Kentucky community of Saline County and descended from pioneer settlers there, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Igou, her parents, Allen and Lenora Brazil, several brothers and one sister.
Daisy Alma and her husband, Ralph Igou owned and operated Benton Electric Shop on South Street in Benton for over 50 years. She continued operating the business after her husband’s death in 1984 for several years until retirement. She was a life-long member of Congo United Methodist Church in Benton.
Immediate surviving family members are her brother, William Leonard Brazil, his wife Flora Mae of Benton; and her niece Dee Brazil-Dale and her grand-niece, Lori Donner, who was her caregiver and companion, half-brother Mr. O. D. Brazil and his wife Becky of Little Rock and several half brothers and sisters, as well as numberous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Winters Cemetery
near Benton.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Ashby’s.
HELEN HOVORKA
Helen Mae Hovorka, age 80, of Benton; passed away Saturday February 19, 2005. She was born on July 14, 1924 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Hovorka was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Malissa Mayhugh and husband, James W. Hovorka.
She is survived by her son, Brett Hovorka and wife Kelly of Benton; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Bright and Shirley Brewer both of Ferndale; four grandchildren, Rachael Hovorka, Courtney Hovorka, Haley Fox and Taylor Fox.
Pallbearers will be Bill Nall, Brent Blankinship, Dennis Washkowiak, Greg Heintz, Bobie Nance and Jimmy Carver.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Ashby Funeral Home.

FAITH BURCHFIELD
Infant Faith Lynn Burchfield was born and passed away on February 19, 2005. She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, James Clemmons, Sr.
She is survived by her parents, Albert and Charity Burchfield, Jr.; brother, Aaron Sawyer; grandparents, Terri Clemmons, Albert and Wilberta Burchfield, Sr., Marie Clemens and Mildred Allison all of Benton, William Whitener of Granbury, Texas; aunt, April Williams; uncle, Nickalus Burchfield both of Benton and uncle, Jonathon Whitener of Bryant.

MARY MENZIES
Mary Diane Menzies, age 66, of Benton; passed away Friday February 18, 2005. She was born on May 28, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. Menzies was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, George Menzies.
She is survived by her mother, Carmella B. Menzies of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Marc Daniel Menzies and wife Rachel of Benton; three daughters, Rhonda Morris of Millington, Tennessee, Jacqueline Medearis of Pensacola, Florida and Jennifer Tober of Heath, Ohio; brother, Donald Menzies of Branson, Missouri; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Collegeville Cemetery. Bro. John Pettus will be officiating. Arrangements by Ashby Funeral Home.
