DOROTHY "GRANNY" WILDER

Mrs. Dorothy “Granny” Wilder of Alexander, Vimy Ridge Community, and the widow of R. J. Wilder, passed away Tuesday July 8, 2003. Granny was born March 24, 1914 to Frank and Edna “Ross” Barth. She was a life long resident of theVimy Ridge Community and a life time member of the Vimy Ridge Immanuel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Donald Barth.

Survivors, son and daughter-in-law, James and Rose Mary Wilder, Alexander; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Singley, Alexander; brother, Howard Barth, Alexander; granddaughters, Joni Sohl and her husband Jeff, Little Rock; Angela Bearden and her husband Terry, Alexander; Lori Ware and her husband Bryan, Alexander; great-granddaughters, Rachel Bearden and Brianna Ware, who were a great source of joy to her.

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday at the Vimy Ridge Immanuel Baptist Church with burial at Pinecrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Ashby Funeral Home in

KATHRYN TAYLOR HOWARD

Mrs. Kathryn Taylor Howard, age 55, of Benton died Wednesday in Little Rock. She was born December 26, 1947 in Benton. Mrs. Howard was a retired secretary and was a Mary Kay Consultant for 14 years and a member of the Bryant Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Verna Taylor and her husband, Curtis Van Howard.

Survivors, son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Christie Howard, Benton; step-sons, Randy Day, Little Rock; Robert Day and his wife Angie, Magnolia; sisters, Wilene Marcuccio, Houston, Texas; Nedra Nelson, Benton; grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Carly, Carter and Coby.

Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at the Bryant Church of Christ with burial at Pinecrest Cemetery. Ministers will be B. Kendall and Mike Jones and John White.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

ALLEN DALE HANKINS

Allen Dale Hankins, age 44, of Bauxite; passed away Tuesday July 29, 2003. He was born on June 8, 1959 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Hankins; two sons, Tony Lee Spillers of Mabelvale and Eugene Spillers of Bauxite; three daughters, Allison Hankins and Derenda Washington of Bauxite and Jessica Hankins Hill of Benton; mother, Cora Branch of Bauxite; father, Danny Hankins and wife Kay of Benton; sister, Danna Mowrey of Benton; grandmother, Louise Hankins of Benton and ten grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Washington, Scott Metcalf, Mark Martindale, Steve Fortin, Jim Wright and Jeff Carnahan.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The minister will be David Tindall.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at Ashby’s.

JIMMY MULLINS

Mr. Jimmy Glen Mullins, age 73 of Benton, born September 17, 1929 departed this life Monday, July 28, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewell and Katie Mullins and one brother, Bill Mullins.

Survivors, His beloved spouse, Janice, who is left with many years of special memories. Also surviving him is his very much loved family of two sons, Ronnie Mullins and his wife Leoda and Gary Mullins all of Benton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean and other special family members along with many long time friends. Other survivors are Janice’s loving family, three sons, one daughter and three adopted grandchildren who affectionately called him Grandpa Jimmy. He will be truly missed and remembered by all who were blessed to know him.

Jimmy was a fireman in Benton and at the State Hospital for thirty-eight years before retiring. He loved hunting and fishing and had a passion for breeding both English Redtick and Black and Tan Hounds, becoming a judge for The United Kennel Club.

The funeral will be held Friday, August 1st at Ashby’s Funeral Home of Benton at 1:00 p.m.

Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at Ashby’s.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Lincoln Plaza Nursing Home of Lonoke for their care and compassion for Jimmy during his stay with them.

BARBARA STANTON

Barbara Sue Stanton, age 61, of Benton; passed away Tuesday July 29, 2003. She was born on June 5, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Stanton was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sonny Hay and a son, Vincent Morris.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Rowland and husband Richard of Benton; brother, Larry Hay and wife Margaret of Vilonia and a sister, Paulette Wilcox of San Francisco, California.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Ashby Funeral Home. Bro. Sam Bates will be officiating.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at Ashby’s.

DAVID WILKERSON

Mr. David Wilkerson a life long residence of Benton passed away on July 30, 2003 at the Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton at the age of 61. He was born November 9, 1941 to Fred Filmore and Easley Bell Barksdale Wilkerson. Mr. Wilkerson was a retired salesman for Montgomery Wards Department Store, Schuster’s Furniture and Appliances, and Haverty’s Furniture in Little Rock, co-owner of Wilkerson’s, Furniture and Appliances, a Marine Corp Veteran, and a member of the Landmark Baptist Church and a former member of the First Church Of The Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Thomas Wilkerson of Oklahoma and Fred Wilkerson Jr. of Benton and by his sisters Jean Kent of Benton, Wanda Lee McCallion of Hot Springs, and Gladys Braun of Ennis Texas;

Survivors, wife, Novell Wilkerson, Benton; Step-son and James Ronald Stailey Sr. and his wife Deborah Lynn. Grandchildren, James R. Stailey Jr. and Deborah Lee Stailey, great-grandson, Ronnie Lee Stailey, Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at New Rosemont Cemetery. Minister will be Dr. David Robinson.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Ashby’s.

Pallbearers, Larry Thomas, Gary Garnett, Charles Lovell, Bill Homesley, Bane Moore, Danny Gibbs.

Honorary Pallbearers, James Patterson, John Goff, Brett Clark

Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Cancer Association or to Carti.

Family will be staying at 2112 South Shore Drive in Benton.

MARION JEAN CLIFT BAYLESS

Mrs. Marion Jean Clift Bayless age 71, of Hot Springs died Wednesday in Hot Springs. She was born February 1, 1932 in Mesquite, Texas to the late Ancel and Florence Smith. Mrs. Bayless was a housewife.

Survivors, daughter, Linda Clift Miller, Benton; step-son, Gary Bayless and his wife Patti, Hot Springs; step-daughter, Anne Brown and her husband Charley, Amhurst, Virginia; brother, Richard L. Smith, Hot Springs; sister, Myrtle Mae Blankenship and her husband John, Harper, Texas; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Hicks Cemetery in Benton. Minister will be Billy Frank Glidewell.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Ashby’s.

Pallbearers, Tony Clift, Robbie Smith, Ronald Jerrell, Shannon Dalrymple, David James, and great-grandchildren, Jake Waliky, A. J. Clift and Rachael Clift.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

NORENE MOORE

Norene N. Moore, age 81, of Haskell; passed away Wednesday October 1, 2003. She was born to the late Grover and Clara Mitchell on June 20, 1922 in Haskell, Arkansas. Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Otis Mitchell, Polly Breitweiser and Marie Westbrook.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil Moore of Haskell; son, Ron Moore of Kansas; two daughters, Lynda Murray of Louisville, Texas and Lisa Foote of Benton; sister, Imogene Scarbrough of Haskell; four grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Funeral services, by Ashby Funeral Home, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Mt. Harmony Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at Ashby’s.

C. HENRY BENBROOK

C. Henry Benbrook, age 45, of Haskell went to be the Lord on Monday December 1, 2003. He was born January 9, 1958 in Benton. Mr. Benbrook was a mechanic. He was preceded in death by his father, James Benbrook Sr. and a niece Sebrina Scoggins. He was a loving and gentle soul and his generous heart will be missed.

Survivors, wife, Lisa Benbrook, Haskell; step-daughters, Tanya Shepard, Glen Rose; Jamie Lytle, Haskell; mother, Dorothy Benbrook, Haskell; brother, James W. Benbrook Jr., Arkadelphia; sisters, Lou Packer, Benton; Mary Benbrook, Haskell; Janet Livingston, East End; and Lee Burks, Haskell; Nephews, Doug Beck, Wesley Beck, Doonie Scroggins, and William Bunt, nieces, Stacey Krupinski and Jennifer Young, grandchild, Alexandria Shepard.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Jones Cemetery at Palestine. Minister will be Carroll Brown.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Ashby’s.

OTIS C. PHILLIPS

Mr. Otis Clestine Phillips, age 79, of Bauxite died Monday at the Saline Memorial Hospital. He was born September 13, 1924 in Pearcy, Arkansas. Mr. Phillips was a mechanic, WWII Navy and Army Air Corp Veteran and a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elam and Elizabeth Phillips, a son Dewayne Phillips, brothers, Clifton Phillips and Everitt Phillips.

Survivors, wife, Lillian Phillips, Bauxite; sons, Dwight Phillips, Bauxite; Mark Phillips, Bauxite; Kevin Robinson, Benton; Alex Robinson and Gary Robinson, Bauxite; daughters, Kay Steed, Hot Springs; Sheila Roberson, Bauxite; brother, W. O. Phillips, Searcy; sister, Evelyn Strayhorn, Searcy; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Pinecrest Cemetery. Minister will be Rev. Carl Wright.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Ashby’s.

MILLARD A. NIX

Mr. Millard Albert Nix age 92, of Benton, died Monday at the Saline Memorial Hospital. He was born September 13, 1911 in Stamps, Arkansas to the late Albert and Essie Nix. Mr. Nix was a retired Property Assessment Auditor for the State of Arkansas prior to being in retail sales in Benton, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Benton. He was also preceded in death by his two sons, Larry and Bobby Nix, brothers, Glen Talmadge and Cleburn Arthur Nix.

Survivors; wife of 63 years, Faye Wildbur Nix, Benton; sisters, Ernestine Benefield, Hurst, Texas; Avanelle McCalman, Texarkana; and Faye Skrowonski, Satellite Beach, Florida; daughters-in-law, Barbara Nix, Benton; Dianne Nix, Benton; grandchildren, Kris Curtis, Keelee MacDonald, Heath Nix, Kari Nix, Richard Jacuzzi, great-grandchildren, Jacey Curtis, Ethan MacDonald, Hayden MacDonald, Chase Nix, Colton Nix, Isabella Jacuzzi, and Grant Jacuzzi.

Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Benton with burial at New Rosemont Cemetery. Ministers will be Rev. David Steel and Rev. Victor Green.

Visitation will be From 6:00 to 7:30 PM Wednesday at Ashby’s.

Pallbearers: Heath Nix, Jeff Curtis, Richard Jacuzzi, Brett Carridine, Tim Wright, and Talmadge Nix.

Honorary Pallbearers: Men’s Bible Class at First United Methodist.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Benton or to the Benton Athletic Memorial Museum.

JOE P. ELROD

Mr. Joe Perry Elrod, age 84, of Benton died Thursday at his home in Benton. He was born March 22, 1919 in Benton. Mr. Elrod was a retired Press Operator for Alcoa, a WWII Navy Veteran, a member of the Wright Deer Hunting Club, and a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife, Christine (Wright) Elrod, Benton; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Jan Elrod, Benton; Harry and Robbie Elrod, Victoria, Texas ; daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Bill McAdoo. Benton; grandchildren, Daniel Elrod and fiancé Amanda Touchstone, Benton; Molly Hansen, and husband Chad, Cincinnati, Ohio; Russ Elrod and wife Amy, Conway; Ryan Elrod, San Antonio, Texas; Braden Elrod, Kevin Elrod, and Lauren Elrod, all of Victoria, Texas; Jeremy McAdoo and wife Carrie, Benton; Mary-Michal Duncan and husband Jason, Bauxite; Chancy McAdoo and wife Amber, Benton; Brady McAdoo and wife Mary Ellen, Benton; great-grandchildren, Will Perry Duncan, Mary Kate Duncan, Emma Kate Elrod.
