Merlene Hendricks Mize
Merlene Hendricks Mize, age 82, a resident of Horatio, AR, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at her home.
She was born February 16, 1931 in De Queen. She was a former employee of Baldwin Piano and a member of the Free Holiness Church. Merlene will be remembered for playing gospel music on the piano.
Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Clara Ayers Hendricks; her husband, Johnny Mize and one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Dan Watkins.
She is survived by two nephews and their wives, Carroll Wayne and Joyce Watkins of Horatio, AR, and Barry and Holly Watkins of Little River Club, AR; two great-nieces, Sabrina Long and Hannah Watkins and three great nephews, Carroll Wayne Watkins II, Brennan Watkins and Braxton Watkins.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mize will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Dale Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6th at the funeral home.
Thelma D. Chandler Cupples
Thelma D. Chandler Cupples, age 84, a resident of Dierks, AR, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Nashville Nursing Home in Nashville, AR.
She was born September 19, 1928 in Howard County, AR. She was a homemaker and attended the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks.
Mrs. Cupples was preceded in death by her parents, Sim Luther and Cora Bell Killian Chandler.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Everett Cupples; one son, Kenneth R. Cupples; one daughter, Tammie J. Yeargen; one brother, Donald J. Chandler; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Cupples will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, in the Fellowship Cemetery
with Rev. Bobby Neal officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Pete Watson
Pete Watson, age 81 of De Queen, AR passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Little Rock, AR. He was born on October 12, 1931, the son of Harry and Annie Watson. He married Mary Helen Parrish in Floydada, TX on December 17, 1950. He and Mary made their home in Idabel and raised 5 children. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2005. Pete later married Ernestine "Ernie" Lacefield and they made their home in De Queen, AR.
He owned and operated several small businesses including Mistletoe Express Freight, Pete Watson Used Cars as well as a real estate business.
Pete enjoyed traveling and in the last few years he and Ernie went to Hawaii, Redwood Forest and Florida among other places. Pete loved his pets including his two favorite dogs, Sparky and Rudy. He was a member of the Idabel First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and his sister, Lorraine Barrett.
Pete is survived by his wife Ernestine "Ernie" Watson of De Queen, AR; his daughters and son in law, Margie and Randy Tucker of Flower Mound, TX, Alice and Phil Woodrum, Sue and Danny Turnage, and Tami and Gary Robbins all of Idabel; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mary Watson of Poteau, OK; step-daughter, Donna Sweeten and husband, Thomas of De Queen, AR; sister and brother-in-law, Belle and Russell Bennett of Roswell, NM and Lucine Jones of Tyler, TX; a special nephew, Vern Burleson of Horatio, AR; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2013 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel, OK with Rev. Oscar Wilkie and Rev. David mercer officiating. interment will follow at Denison Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the funeral home.

Mary Jo Kolean
Mary Jo Kolean, 94, of Texarkana, AR, formerly of Hot Springs, AR, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in a local hospital. She was born November 5, 1918, in Hawsville, KY. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Texarkana, AR, and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Adrian Kolean, who was a former pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Hot Springs.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisbeth and Lee Pennington of Texarkana, TX, and Norma Jan and Horace Plum of Arkadelphia, AR; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Johannah and Brian Cox of Bismarck, AR; two great-grandchildren, Nikki and Andrew Cox of Bismarck, AR; and a number of other relatives.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Redmen Cemetery, De Queen, AR, with the Revs. Lloyd Perry and Susan Arnold officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texarkana, TX.

Mr. Robert Dennis Lyons
Mr. Robert Dennis Lyons, age 52, a resident of Longview, Texas, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
He was born March 21, 1961 in Longview. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Longview. His kind heart and gentle humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Jack T. and Peggy Louise (Benson) Lyons.
He is survived by one brother, Steve Lyons of Longview, TX; one sister, Elaine Clickard of Rockwall, TX; his uncle and aunt, Jimmy and Jackie Lyons of De Queen, AR; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Junior “Wolfy” Melton
Mr. Junior “Wolfy” Melton, age 66, a resident of Provo, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 2nd at his home.
He was born to Omer Elisha and Pauline Raby Melton at Yellville, Arkansas, on March 7, 1947. He was a veteran of the Vietname War, having served in the U. S. Army, and was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church of Lockesburg. Junior was a volunteer fireman at Provo, Arkansas. He enjoyed riding horses, horse shoes, 4-wheelers, and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Euna Phillips, and Georgie Killebrew.
He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Shirley Baker Melton of Provo, two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Ray Smith of Texarkana, Arkansas, Debbie and Ceaser Jones of Nashville, Arkansas, five grandchildren, Kameron Smith, Haylee Taylor, Tifani Jones, Elisha Jones and Jalon Jones, three brothers, Frank Melton of Provo, Jim Melton of Morris, Okla, and Bill Melton of Yellville, Ark., a sister, Bonnie Martin of Provo, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Virginia Jewel Bell Thrash
Mrs. Virginia Jewel Bell Thrash, age 83, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Monday, April 1, 2013 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.
She was born to Doctor Boyce, Sr. and Lillie Bea Bell at Lockesburg, Arkansas on February 7, 1930. She was a retired ward clerk for the Howard Memorial Hospital, Nashville, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, and enjoyed her church work, visiting people, and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Theo Bell, Otis Bell, Joe Bell, Carlton Bell, Charlene Holt, Irene Williams, and Francine Bell, and in 1988, her husband, Milton Thrash, Sr.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and April Thrash of Lockesburg, Michael and Stephanie Thrash of Lubbock, Texas, Edward Jackson Thrash and Tammy Jackson Thrash of Stockton, California, and Dolvin Moore and Tracie Moore Thrash of Lockesburg, three daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Steven Johnson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kathy Thrash and Deanna Wynn both of Lockesburg, a brother, D. B. Bell, Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah, a sister, Willie B. Neal of Salt Lake City, Utah, sixteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Cora Geneva Mears Newton
Mrs. Cora Geneva Mears Newton, age 80, a resident of Provo, Arkansas, and former resident of Alleene, Arkansas, died Monday, April 1, 2013 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana.
She was born to John Mack Enry and Ethel Seastrunk Mears at Alleene, Arkansas on October 14, 1932. She was a retired nurse as well as a homemaker. She attended the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Lockesburg, and had a passion for cooking.
She was preceded in death by a her parents, a brother, John Kenneth Mears, and a son-in-law, Bobby Bradshaw.
Cora is survived by her husband of over 62 years, J. D. Newton of Provo, Arkansas, a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Clayton and Jonnie Newton of Provo, a daughter, Wannell Bradshaw of Provo, five grandchildren and their spouses, Chad and Carmella Bradshaw of Provo, Mindy Simmons of Provo, Amanda and Jason Miller of Provo, Onawa and James Hughes of Gillham, and Tawana Newton of Provo, sixteen great-grandchldren, two sisters, Mary Frances McGraw of Irving, Texas, and Elsie Echols of Irving, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Cora Newton will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4th in the Alleene Community Building, Alleene, Arkansas with Rev. Wesley Blankenship and Rev. Larry Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the Alleene Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3rd in the Chandler Funeral Home chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Mrs. Edith Faye Pinkerton Hill
Mrs. Edith Faye Pinkerton Hill, age 78, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Dierks.
She was born August 27, 1934 at home in Newhope, Arkansas to Allie B. and Zora Rhoda Matthews Pinkerton. Those who knew her knew she was a wonderful wife, mother, cook and friend to all.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Billy Joe Hill; her parents, and a sister, Verdell Pinkerton Bissell.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Dunlap and her husband Charles and Teresa Jester and her husband Jeff, all of Newhope; two sons, Joe Hill and his wife Mondi and Jeffery Hill and his wife Carrie, all of Newhope ; 9 grandchildren, Jeremy and(Cindy) Jester, Brandon Mays, Traci and (Shane) Carter, Brandi and (Ollie) Godwin, Lisa and (Jay) Carver, Shane and (Heather) Hill, Dustin Hill, Carissa Hill and Kandi Garland; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchild; two sisters, Billie Jean Parsons and Verma McCauley; 2 special friends, Randy Ware and Chad Shake; nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention but all are loved.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Hill will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in the Bissell Chapel Church near Newhope with Brian Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Bissell Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Mary Earlene (Cowden) Donaldson
Mrs. Mary Earlene (Cowden) Donaldson, age 90, a resident of Katy, Texas, formerly of Horatio, Arkansas, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in Houston, Texas.
She was born November 22, 1922, in Horatio, Arkansas. Earlene had been a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana since 1958 where she was a member of Spring of Grace Baptist Church. She has lived in Katy, Texas for the past four years.
Mrs. Donaldson was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Addie Mae (Caplinger) Cowden; her husband Jimmy Donaldson; one brother, Bernard Cowden and one sister, Maxine (Cowden) Martin.
She is survived by one son, Glenn Donaldson of Cambria, California; one daughter, Kaye Smith of Katy, Texas and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Harold “Sonny” Blanton
Mr. Harold “Sonny” Blanton, age 78, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, in the Christus St. Michael’s Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born April 27, 1934, in Wickes, Arkansas. He was retired from the Lincoln, California School district and was a member of the Geneva Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bonnie Helen May Blanton and a great granddaughter, Savannah Blanton.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ruth Frachiseur Blanton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve and Angie Blanton, Rodger Blanton of Roseville, California and Jeff and Laura Blanton of Sacramento, California; three grandchildren, Catilyn Blanton, Jonathan Blanton, Matthew Blanton ; two great grandchildren, Peyton Blanton and Jace Blanton and several nieces and nephews.
