Linda Lee Nelson Polk

Mrs. Linda Lee Nelson Polk, age 49, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, September 3rd at her home.

She was born to Lee F. and Pearlie Leola Hill Nelson at De Queen, Arkansas, on November 16, 1962. She was a 1981 graduate of De Queen High School, and a graduate of Bauder Fashion College in Arlington, Texas. She worked as manager for Dillards in Arlington, Texas, and was retired from the United States Postal Service. She was a substitute teacher for the De Queen School System. She served on the De Queen City Council for 12 years.

She was a member of the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served in the Youth Department, the Church Choir, and on the Decorating Committee.

She enjoyed decorating, shopping, gardening, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by two sons, Lorne “P.J.” Polk and his fiancé, Lindsey Daniel and Michael Lee Polk all of De Queen, her mother, Pearlie Nelson of De Queen, a brother and sister-in-law, Jessie LeRoy and Maria Nelson of Horatio, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia Nelson Hearn of Wake Village, Texas, and Mary Carolyn and Rev. Daniel Thompson of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Linda Polk will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 8th in the De Queen High School Auditorium with Rev. E. A. Edwards officiating.

Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, September 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Paul Allen Davis

Mr. Paul Allen Davis, age 67, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, September 2nd at his Home.

He was born to Leonard Miles and Violet Muriel Smith Davis on June 2, 1945 in Redding, England. He was a veteran to the Vietname War, having served in the U. S. Navy, and was a construction worker. He enjoyed animals, especially his cat “Missy”, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, and a brother, Miles Davis.

He is survived by his father, Leonard Miles Davis of De Queen, a brother, Bert Davis Of Hooks, Texas, two sisters, Jessie Lea Mason of Dierks, and Rebecca Sue Davis of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Scooter Mason of Dierks.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Paul Davis will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 5th in the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Dorothy Shinn

Mrs. Dorothy Annette Reeder Shinn, 97, a resident of Lockesburg, died Tuesday, September 4th in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Claud Duvall and Annie Lee Little Reeder at Ashdown, Arkansas, on November 18, 1915. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg. she was retired from Baldwin's in De Queen, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the AARP, and enjoyed cooking, playing dominoes, traveling and spending time with family and friends

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester Shinn, a son Jerry Wayne Shinn, a brother, Joe D. Reeder, and two sisters, Eleanor Berry, and Martha Bell, and a great-grandson Jeremy Hemund.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Peggy Shinn of Hatfield, Ark; two granddaughters and their spouses, Toni and Bruce Davis of Amity, Ark., and Debbie and Bobby Roling of Hot Springs, Ark.; five great-grandchildren, Sandra Davis of Conway, Bruce Davis Jr. of Hot Springs, Camille Hemund of Memphis, Tenn., Jarrod Hemund ( Jennifer) of Arkadelphia, Chlesea Hemund of Hot Springs, Ark., a great-great-grandchild, Mahaley Hemund of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Winnie Faye Reeder of Texarkana, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Shinn will be held at 10:00a.m., Saturday, September 8th in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor terry Chapman and nephew, Kem Reeder officiating, Burial will follow in the Coulter Memorial gardens, Lockesburg, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, September 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Cindy Louise Bell Hockersmith

Mrs. Cindy Louise Bell Hockersmith, age 50, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at her home.

She was born to Tommy Franklin Bell and Geraldine Laverne Stafford on November 6, 1961 in Ventura, California. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed video games, grandchildren, And spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, William E. “Bill” Hockersmith of Gillham, a son and daughter-in-law, Jarrod and Brooke Hockersmith of Foreman, a daughter and son-in-law, Miranda and Roy Verdin of De Queen, two grandchildren, Anora Elizabeth Verdin and Jacob Hockersmith; a brother, Rex Bell of Los Vegas, Nevada.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Hockersmith will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 03, 2012, in the Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home

Earl Alvis LeForce

Mr. Earl Alvis LeForce, age 71, was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, on July 26, 1941 to Albert Alvis and Julia Ann Maxey LeForce. As a young boy, he went to school in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He honorably served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict as a decorated aircraft engine mechanic and crew chief.

His military honors included Air Force Good Conduct Medal during service. He passed into his heavenly fathers hands on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen and he treasured his relationship with the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Dennis Earl LeForce of Broken Bow, Oklahoma two brothers, Ed R. LeForce and his wife, Bonnie J. Willis LeForce of Idabel, Oklahoma, Bob LeForce and his wife, Vida Lou Earnhart LeForce of Oraville, California, two sisters, Martha LeForce Willis and her husband, Roy M. Willis of Eagletown, Oklahoma and Imogene LeForce of Idabel, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Joy Bernice Castle LeForce of Brentwood, California, three nieces, Beverly Jo Powers, Aneeka Dawn LeForce and Debra Jean LeForce.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Munn LeForce, his children, James Alvis LeForce of Sacramento, California, Kenny Wayne LeForce of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Tonya Dee Petross and her husband, Cameron of De Queen, Arkansas, his grandchildren, Jayden LeForce of Lockesburg, Arkansas; Lacey Kennedy and her husband, Michael of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Colton Brakeville, of De Queen, Kaleb and Kelsi Petross of Texarkana, Arkansas; one great-granddaughter, Addison Holland of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; his wonderful mother-in-law, Johnnie Elliott of Horatio, his brother-in-law, Rick Munn and his wife, Melinda of Texarkana, Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends who he loved and treasured.

He is survived by two brothers, C. V. LeForce of Brentwood, California, Carl E. LeForce and his wife, Sue of Idabel, Oklahoma, three sisters, Dorothy LeForce McDaniel and her husband, Cecil of Catoosa, Oklahoma, Sue LeForce Tipton and her husband Dale of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Millie LeForce of Rancho Mirage, California.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He helped raise his younger siblings after the death of his mother in 1949. He loved his family and friends and especially enjoyed family gatherings and reunions, and was an accomplished carpenter and woods craftsman. He loved to use his special talent to build gifts for his family and friends and could always be found stirring a pot of soup in the kitchen, grilling hamburgers on his grill and making homemade peach ice cream. He was very proud of his home and enjoyed working around the place. He will be missed by his family who enjoyed his unconditional love.

Funeral Services for Mr. Earl LeForce will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 10:00 A.M. in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, Arkansas with Clark LeForce, minister officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, Horatio, Arkansas.

The family will received friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, September 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 North University Avenue, Little Rock, Arkansas 72207, (501)603-5200.

Louise Griffith Alexander

Mrs. Louise Griffith Alexander, age 72, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Saturday, August 25th at her home.

She was born to Mill Milner and Hazel Foster Griffith at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on May 20, 1940. She was a retired C.N.A, and as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Horatio Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed quilting, canning, fishing, and visiting with family, neighbors, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Mike Barringer, and Clarence Alexander, a son, Azel Alexander, a daughter, Catherine Alexander, a brother, Donnie Griffith, and a sister, Mary Ruth Phelps.

She is survived by five sons and daughter-in-laws, Samuel and Tammy Love Alexander; Thurman Alexander, Thomas Alexander, and William Alexander all of Horatio, and James and Brenda Alexander of De Queen, Ark.; five step-sons, Alan Hunt of Tulsa, Okla.; Clarence Hunt of Florida, Mike Hunt of Fort Smith, Michael Barringer of Miss., and Bobby Barringer of Russellville, Ark.; one step-daughter, Christina, and her husband, Ronnie Willis of Horatio, Three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Carl Buchanan of Caddo, Okla, Joyce Kimmel of De Queen, and Martha Worthen of Coppers Cove, Texas, fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, a brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Desiree Barringer of Horatio, Arkansas.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Louise Alexander will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 29th in the West Otis Cemetery with Bro. John Gutierres officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28th. You may send an online sympathy message at www.chandlerfuneral.com. The family is accepting donations for funeral expense.

Ernest James Banks

Mr. Ernest James Banks, age 78, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Friday, August 24, 2012 in the De Queen Medical Center.

Mr. Banks was born August 29th, 1933 at Ashville, North Carolina. He retired after 38 years as a switchman at the De Queen Treating Plant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Madelyn Banks.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathy (C.J.) Parish of De Queen: two grandchildren, Robert E. Spangler of Dallas and Misty Spangler of Ohio; five great-grandchildren and eight younger brothers and sisters in Ashville North Carolina.

A private memorial service is scheduled for a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Robert Wayne Wells

Mr. Robert Wayne Wells, age 69, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas, died Friday, October 26th in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

He was born to Joel Sherman and Thelma Hudgins Wells in Houston, Texas, on February 1, 1943. He was retired from industrial construction, and had a passion for artist iron work, jewelry making, and art glass. Mr. Wells was a Baptist, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Joe Wells, a son-in-law, John Jones and a brother-in-law Wilburn Mays.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Shirley Vaught Wells of Grannis, two sons, Robert W. Wells, Jr. and Richie E. Wells both of Grannis, a daughter, Sherry Jo Jones of White Hall, Arkansas, three grandchildren; Carissa Atwood of Rochester, New Hampshire, Bradley Blake Beaton, US Navy, Japan, and Kristen Wells of Frisco, Texas, three step grandchildren, Trenton Jones and Brandon Jones of Wellington, New Zealand and Meagan Garrett of Little Rock, Arkansas, one great-grandchild, Cameron Atwood of Rochester, New Hampshire, one step-great-grandchild, Ava Garrett of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Billie Mays of Houston, Texas, a sister-in-law Margaret Wells of Houston, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Wells will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 29th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, Arkansas, with Rev. Homer Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow in the Grannis Cemetery, Grannis, Arkansas. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Sunday, October 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
