James Coleman McRae

Mr. James Coleman McRae, age 93, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died
Monday, August 13, 2012 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born February 4, 1919 in the Lake Community of De Queen, Arkansas. He was a rural mail carrier, a member of the D.A.V., a WWII Army veteran and a member of the Church of Christ, De Queen.

Mr. McRae was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nona Matthews McRae; his wife, Helen Maurice Phillips McRae; a daughter, Peggy Ann McRae; a great-granddaughter, Sara Morgan McRae; his sisters, Ella Weaver, Opal McKinney, Nona Mae Phillips and Edith Phillips; and his brothers, Virgil McRae, Walter McRae and Jim McRae.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James and Loretta McRae of De Queen; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lola Lawrence of Horatio, Arkansas, Sylvia and Frank McDonald of Foreman, Arkansas, and Cathy and Mike Meadows of El Dorado, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Kim Lawrence Morris, Sandy Barksdale, Jeff McRae, Philip McRae, Jami Johnson, Alan Meadows, Clint Meadows, Frank A. McDonald, Tommy McDonald and Maurisa Kennedy; 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. McRae will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the Church of Christ, De Queen with Van Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Marvin Huckaby

Mr. Marvin Huckaby, age 81, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, August 12th in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Felix and Louise Ramsey Huckaby in De Queen, Arkansas, on May 28, 1931. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Army, and a veteran of Vietnam, retiring from the United States Air Force, with 23 years service. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lonnie, Donnie, and Glennis Huckaby, and his wife, Lou Ann Dunn Huckaby.

Marvin is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Joanie Huckaby of Bloomburg, Texas, Dennis Huckaby and Steve Huckaby both of Broken Bow, Okla.; one daughter, Judy Bromley of Broken Bow, Okla.; two step-sons, Glenn Conatser, Jr. and Mike Conatser both of De Queen, one step-daughter, Melanie Gillespie of De Queen; two brothers, James Huckaby and Ramsey Huckaby both of De Queen, three sisters, Margie Harbolt of Joplin, Missouri, Sue Wagoner and Linda Dean both of De Queen, fifteen grandchildren, fifteen Great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Marvin Huckaby will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 15th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military rites will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. You may send an online sympathy message at www.chandlerfuneral.com.

Carrell Luther Russell

Mr. Carrell Luther Russell, age 76, a resident of Cerro Gordo, Arkansas, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at his home.

He was born to Ivery and Hazel Burney Russell at Cerro Gordo, Arkansas on November 12, 1935. He was retired from Mrs. Bairds Bakery in Dallas, Texas, and was a cattleman. He served in the military with the Arkansas National Guard, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed cattle, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lazenby Russell of Cerro Gordo, Ark. two sons, Marty Russell of Cerro Gordo, Okla., and Justin Russell of Melissa, Texas, a step-son, Mark Cleghorn of Cerro Gordo, Ark., two daughters, Frita Kay Blankenship of Garland, Texas, and Krissy Prince of Anna, Texas, two step-daughters, Deedy Tody and Stacy Cleghorn both of Cerro Gordo, Ark.; a brother, Sam Russell of Dallas, Texas, two special aunts, Inez Merritt of Houghton, La., and Faye Bone of Burleson, Tex.; seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Carrell Russell will be held at 10:00 A.M.., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in the Church of Christ, Horatio, Arkansas, with Virgil Romine, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Pauley Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, August 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Glenda Johnston Bayles Proctor

Mrs. Glenda Johnston Bayles Proctor, age 67, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, August 8th in the Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock, AR.

She was born to Johnny William and Flossie Gertrude Bradley Johnston in Bastrop, Louisiana, on May 24, 1945. She was a retired motel manager, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Free will Baptist Church and enjoyed dancing, gardening, bowling and cleaning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles Franklin Proctor in 2009.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Darin L. and Michelelle Bayles of Hutto, Texas; one daughter, Renee Tucker of De Queen; five grandchildren, James Tucker, III and Amber Nichole Tucker both of Prescott, Arkansas, Brianna Bayles, Austin Bayles and Avery Bayles, all of Hutto, Texas; five brothers, Johnny W. Johnston of Logansport, LA, Edward Johnston, of De Queen, Joe Pate Taylor of Monticello, AR, Bob R. Taylor and Tim Taylor both of Warren, AR; one sister, Pat Athey of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Glenda Proctor will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, August 13th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Ava Mae Ward

Ava Mae Ward, 85, of Texarkana, AR died August 8, 2012 in Pleasant Manor Nursing and Rehab in Ashdown, AR.

Mrs. Ward was born September 6, 1926 in King, AR. She was retired from The State of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services and a Member of Soroptimists International of Texarkana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd (Sonny) Ward, one sister, Doris Clayton, her parents Ollie and Etta Whitley and special Parents William and Lena Whitley.

She is survived by two step-sons, Lloyd E.(Gene) Ward and wife Amanda of Dallas, TX, Dean Ward and wife Yesenia of Benbrook, TX; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Ward Pickering and Husband Joe Pickering of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren and one great grandson.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown, AR. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 am at Alleene Cemetery in Alleene, AR with Rev. Vic Chapman officiating,

Arrangements are under the direction of Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown, AR.

Sharon Anita Lambeth Haycraft

Mrs. Sharon Anita Lambeth Haycraft, age 66, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at her home.

She was born to Kenneth Earl and Virgie Maurene Clements Lambeth in De Queen, Arkansas, on July 28, 1946. She was a member of the Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church, and enjoyed playing card games, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Sharon is survived by two daughters, Jodie Sexton of De Queen, and Jeana Kelly of Olton, Texas, a son, Dean Haycraft of Hugo, Okla.; her mother, Maureen Lambeth of De Queen, two brothers, Cleve Lambeth and Clem Lambeth both of Hot Springs, Ark., two sisters, Jackie Pogue of De Queen, and Wanda Juhl of North Dakota, six grandchildren, Cameron Tudor, Kayla Ndahiro, Allison Kelly, Skylar Kelly, Allen Haycraft, and Josh Haycraft, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Sharon Haycraft will be held on Thursday, August 9th at 10:00 A.M. in the Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church, De Queen, with Pastor Daniel Kaffenberger officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Buford Wayne Pennington

Buford Wayne Pennington, 72, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012 in Pryor, Oklahoma.

He was born on May 8, 1940 in Horatio, Arkansas, the son of Buford Pennington and Eugenia (Gore) Pennington. He married Ruth Donati who has preceded him in death. He was a carpenter by trade working for Cantera Construction. Buford loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed Rodeo and horses, at one time riding bulls. Buford enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving grandfather who leaves many wonderful memories for all to cherish.

He is survived by his sons, Michael and wife, Pam Pennington of Grand Junction, CO, Steven and wife, Lisa Pennington of Pryor, OK and Jason and wife, Dusty Pennington of Chanute, KS; one brother, Thurman Pennington of Lockesburg, AR; one sister, Marva Wright of Broken Bow, OK; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Donati) Pennington; his parents, Buford and Eugenia Pennington.

Funeral Services for Mr. Pennington will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Shipman ‘s Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Gleason officiating.

Local Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen. Burial will follow in Millwee Cemetery in Horatio, Arkansas.

Rebecca Ann McGough Resendiz

Mrs. Rebecca Ann McGough Resendiz, age 42, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at her home.

She was born May 4, 1970 in Dallas, TX. She was an employee of Pilgrims Pride.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy Leroy and Betty Morgan McGough.

She is survived by her husband, Jose Resendiz of De Queen, Arkansas; two sons, Antonio Baca of De Queen, Arkansas and Miguel Baca of Newport, Arkansas; one daughter, Anna Tapia of Texas; one brother, Leroy McGough of De Queen, Arkansas and one sister, Sheila McGough of Talco, Texas; one grandchild and a number of friends.

Graveside Memorial Services for Mrs. Resendiz will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the Pauley Cemetery.

J T Houser

J T Houser, 87, a lifetime resident of the Red Colony community in Lockesburg, AR died Saturday August 4, 2012 at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, TX. He was born June 10, 1925 at home in the Houser family farm in Lockesburg, to Whit and Mittie Houser.

J T joined the Army in 1943 where he saw active duty in the Italian Theatre during WWII.

When J T returned home he married his childhood neighbor and sweetheart, Robbie Jo Goode, on September 19, 1945 in the parsonage of the Methodist Church in Lockesburg, AR. Immediately after their marriage, they built their home on the Houser family farm, which also happened to be where they met and where they lived throughout their marriage of 67 years.

Here J T and Robbie Jo raised their three daughters, Patsy, Diane and Brenda. As each of the girls married, their family grew. The Housers hosted countless others, friends and extended family, as they occasioned by to visit. JT was famous for his fried chicken and at Thanksgiving, you better arrive early or you would be hard pressed to find a place to sit (or a piece of chicken).. J T was a member of the Lockesburg First United Methodist Church. He was an active brother of the Masons as well as a lifetime member of the VFW.

J T is preceded in death by his parents, Whit and Mittie Houser and his sister, Eva Mae Barefield.

J T is survived by his loving wife, Robbie Jo (Goode) Houser; daughter, Patsy Havins and husband Larry of Lockesburg, AR; daughter, Diane Johnson and husband Kelsey of Del Rio, TX; daughter, Brenda Posey and husband Robert of Mount Pleasant, TX; sister, Estelle Houser of Ashdown, AR; grand daughters: Gina (Jeff) Hunter, Lisa (James) Clement, Kelly Johnson, Brandie (Lance) Carver; grandsons: Bud Posey (Micki Jo) and Jay (Janet) Johnson; 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; special niece Rhonda (Joe) Porcaro.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, August 6, at the Chandler Funeral Home in De Queen, AR.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, August 7, at the Lockesburg First United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Terry Chapman. Burial will follow at Bellville Cemetery in Lockesburg.

Karen Denise Keen Connery

Karen Denise Keen Connery, age 47, originally from Houston and a resident of Horatio, died Thursday, August 2, in Texarkana.

She was born Jan. 22, 1965 in Houston, Texas. She has been employed by Clearing House Petroleum as an administrative assistant and was also self-employed in the security industry. She enjoyed bird watching, outside activities, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Allen Keen in 2011, and Anita Ruth Gore Keen, in 2009.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Howard of Horatio, two daughters, Kari Elizabeth Leah Walsh, of Horatio, and Morgan Kynan Connery, of Houston, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Todd Allen and Tammy Keen of Horatio; two nieces Kendall Marie Carney of Houston and Tessa Caudill of Horatio; three nephews, Rocky Caudill of Sutherlin, Ore., Jason Caudill of Tom Bean, Texas and Andy Ewalt of Bells, Texas; and a special friend, Scott Smith of De Queen.

Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 7th in the Millwee Cemetery, Horatio, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Monday, August 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
