Morris "Coach" Hodgson
Morris Coach Hodgson, age 75, of Mena died Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Mena Regional Health System. He was born on Wednesday, May 27, 1936 to Kenneth and Ella Russell Hodgson in DeKalb, Texas.
Morris began his athletic career at DeKalb High School in 1952. He was a four year letterman at DHS, and received an All-State Honorable Mention. Morris also was the light heavy weight AAU state boxing champion. After his high school career, Morris went to play football at New Mexico State University. He was selected as the top cornerback in the Border Conference in 1960. His 1960 team went undefeated and won the Border Conference. They won the Sun Bowl and finished ranked fifth and eleventh in the nation in two different polls.
Morris received a plaque from Vince Lombardi in 1967 in New York City for being part of the 1960 New Mexico State team. The team was inducted into the New Mexico State University Hall of Fame. Morris coached and served as assistant athletic director at New Mexico State University. But his most recent and most touching honor came in 2011, when Morris was inducted into the DeKalb Hall of Fame. Coach was a winner and gave 110% in everything he did in his life. Morris also served his country in the United States Navy as a Qualified Airman from 1955 to 1959.
Morris loved spending time with his family and working outside. He liked to work with his tractor and make improvements on the properties he owned. He enjoyed his dogs and watching the deer around his house. Morris loved fishing and the great outdoors. He also was an activist in many ways. He and his wife Marcia helped form the Southern Oklahoma Water Alliance to keep the State and other interested parties from damming up the Mountain Fork River, and a 10 year moratorium on the out-of-state sale of water resulted from their efforts. Morris also was Vice President of the We the People Tea Party and was very active in supporting his country. Morris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mena.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Hodgson of the home; one son, Jamie Hodgson of Clarksville, Texas; one sister, Edna Lamon of Clarksville, Texas; one granddaughter, Melissa Burkholder of Wichita, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. A service will be Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Bates Family Funeral Home Chapel in De Kalb, Texas at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Woodman Cemetery
in DeKalb, Texas.

Ona Inez "Sis" Higgins Leeper
Mrs. Ona Inez "Sis" Higgins Leeper, age 91, a resident of Broken Bow, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.
She was born November 14, 1919 in Kellum, Arkansas. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gillham, Arkansas.
Mrs. Leeper was preceded in death by her parents Grover and Pauline Carpenter Higgins and her husband, William F. Leeper.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lawanda and John Farley of Gillham; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and Ed Graham of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Ronald and Jane Farley of Gillham and Karen January of Springdale, Arkansas; 4 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Leeper will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the Millcreek Cemetery
with Ray Brown officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
Verna Mae Lockeby Pitts
Mrs. Verna Mae Lockeby Pitts, age 73, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Sunday, November 13th at her home.
She was born to Roy Dale and Zea Whisanhant Lockeby, in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, on May 29, 1938. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, J.T., George, and Dale Lockeby, a grandchild, Charles Dickerson, and her husband, Charles Edward Pitts.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Richard Pitts of New Boston, Texas, and Michael Edward and Rhonda Pitts of foreman, Ark.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and august Dickerson of Moon, Okla., Phyllis Ann and Ken Stuth of Whithouse, Tex., and Lisa Jean and Kevin Magby of foreman; nine grandchildren; Justin Dickerson, Michael Wayne Ragsdale, Brittany Ragsdale, Kolby Pitts, Cody Magby, Brandie Knighten, Daniel Jones, Chris Green and Crystal Green, four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Londyn, Bradley, and Chelsey, one brother, Luther Lockeby of Foreman; four sisters, Sue Kegley of Tom, Okla., Margie Hoover of Murfreesboro, Betty Pipkens also of Murfreesboro, and Juanita Lockeby of Nashville, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial graveside services for Mrs. Verna Pitts will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19th in the Blackman Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Ark.
Madison Doss "Bub" Dossett
Madison Doss "Bub" Dossett, age 71, a resident of De Queen, AR died Thursday, November 10, 2011 in De Queen.
He was born April 6, 1940 in Winthrop, AR. He was retired from KCS railroad, served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, was a master Mason, a member of the Sweet Home Masonic Lodge #461, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Queen.
Mr. Dossett was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Mattison and Emmie Gautney Dossett; his wife, Jan Killian Dossett; and two brothers, Troy Dossett and John Henry Dossett.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Henson Pierce Dossett of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Lenette Dossett of De Queen; three step-sons, Roger Pierce of Nashville, AR, Randy Pierce of St. Louis, MO, and Charles "Pete" Pierce of De Queen; two brothers, Winston Dossett of Winthrop, AR and Sherdon Dossett of Mena, AR; three sisters, Fern Green of Foreman, AR, Hilda Hallisey of Texarkana, TX and Lovetta Arensdorf of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Amberlee Dossett-Neal and Suzanne Beene; six step grandchildren, Arial, Zack, Neal, Bryan, Adrianna, and Crystal; and several nieces and nephews,

Eller Louise Lawrence Cannon Emerson
Mrs. Eller Louise Lawrence Cannon Emerson, age 74, a resident of Hatfield, Ark., died Wednesday, November 9th at her home.
She was born to J. T. and Lucy Jeans Lawrence at Nashville, Arkansas, on September 19, 1937. She was a Baptist, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, flowers, and canning.
She was preceded in death by parents, her brothers, George Henry Lawrence, Jimmy Dale Lawrence; a daughter, Kim Goodwin, and her husband, Charles Emerson.
She is survived by her companion, James A. Cline of Hatfield, Ark.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Linda Cannon of Moyers, Okla., Ricky and Peggy Cannon of De Queen; and Chris Cannon of Nashville, Ark.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debora and Julio Mullins of Hatfield, Becky and Eddie Liggin of Lockesburg, and Chasidy Emerson of Hatfield, two brothers, Edwin Lawrence of Grapevine, Texas, Ruben Lawrence of Nashville, Ark.; two sisters, Ida “Snooks” Kesterson of Dierks, and Ruth Kay Harper of Lockesburg, 18 grandchildren, Robby, Perry, Corey, Cheryl, Crystal, Kimberly, Randy, Kristi, Jessica, Amber, Tyler, Shane, Crystal, Heather, Trey, Josh, John, and Shawna, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Louise Emerson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen with Bro. Shane Haarmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, November 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Daniel "Danny" Anderson Suttle
Daniel "Danny" Anderson Suttle, age 57, a resident of Hatton, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born December 20, 1953 in Searcy, Arkansas. He was an employee of Suttle Equipment, a member of the First Baptist Church of Grannis and an avid hunter and gun enthusiast.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Lee Black Suttle.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Paula Piearcy Suttle of Hatton, Arkansas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jessica Suttle of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Bobbi and Ricky Roper of Hatton, Arkansas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Jackie Suttle of De Queen, Arkansas and Clayton and Meredith Suttle of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Doug and Melinda Suttle and David Suttle all of De Queen, Arkansas; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and William Kight of Dierks; six grandchildren, Taylor and Jayden Suttle, Isabelle and Eleanor Suttle and Brenna and Porter Roper; special family, Jimmy and Donna McLaughlin; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the Wickes Nazarene Church in Wickes, Arkansas with Bro. Homer Frachiseur and David Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniel Cemetery
under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Edward Durand Robinson
Mr. Edward Durand “Ed” Robinson, age 78, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Tuesday, November 8, 2011, in the V. A. Hospital, Little Rock.
He was born to Edward Clyde and Mary Labarr Robinson in Hawthorne, Calif., on March 23, 1933. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a retired farmer. He enjoyed animals and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Eric Kirk Robinson, .
Ed is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Arlene K. Collins Robinson of Dierks, two sons and daughters-in-law, Guy George and Elaine Robinson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Rod and Darlene Robinson of Apopka, Florida, two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail Louise and Daryl Miller of Dierks, and Colleen Tracy and Scott Williams of Chico, Calif.; a sister, Barbara Hastings of Anaheim, Calif, and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Ark. Burial will be in the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
Minnie Mae Ross
Ms. Minnie Mae Ross, age 78, a resident of Mena, Arkansas died Monday, November 7, 2011 in Mena.
She was born November 29, 1932 in Lockesburg, Arkansas. She was a former custodian at the Sevier County Courthouse and a member of the First Baptist Church in Cove, Arkansas.
Ms. Ross was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Georgia Tidd Ross; companion, Leon Smith and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter; Janet Darlene Smith Ross Westbrook Ernest and husband Douglas of Wichita, Kansas; one son, Lonnie Joe Ross of Mena, Arkansas; three granddaughters, Alisha Kay Westbrook Cardby and Melissa Renee Johnson both of Wickes and Mattie Joe Ross of Mena; four grandsons, Terry Allan Ross and John Henry Westbrook Johnson both of Wichita, Kansas and Wyatt John Ross and Weston Dale Ross both of Mena, Arkansas; one brother, Tommy Ross; two sisters, Elise Faye and Lillie Bell Harmon; 6 great-grandchildren, and a number of step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services for Ms. Ross will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 10, 2011 in the Redmen Cemetery
in De Queen with Rev. Ron Ladd officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery
under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
