Peggy Louise Benson Lyons

Mrs. Peggy Louise Benson Lyons, age 80, a resident of Longview, Texas and former resident of De Queen died Friday, March 19, 2010 in Longview, Texas.

She was born November 11, 1929 in Wright City, OK. She was a retired surgical nurse, former chief of the nursing staff at the De Queen Medical Center and a member of the Longview Trinity Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lyons was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Louise Pate Benson.

She is survived by her husband, Jack T. Lyons; one daughter Elaine Clicker of Duncanville, Texas; two sons, Steve Lyons and Dennis Lyons of Longview, Texas; one brother, Buddy Benson of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and several grandchildren and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Lyons will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 in the Redmen Cemetery with Dennis Lyons and Buddy Benson officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Troy Amos Champion

Troy Amos Champion, age 87, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Wednesday March 17, 2010, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1922 in Daisy, Arkansas. He was retired farmer and a member of the Dierks Church of Christ.

Mr. Champion was preceded in death by his wife, Iler Rea Barnett Champion and his parents, William Thomas and Delphia Champion.

He is survived by two sons, Tim and Tony Champion both of Dierks and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Champion will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Center Point Church of Christ with James McRae officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Viewing will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Randall "Eli" Glasgow

Randall "Eli" Glasgow, age 58, of Lockesburg, died Monday, March 15, 2010.

He was born on August 20, 1951, at Nashville, Arkansas, the son of Elmer Loy Glasgow and Pauline Young Glasgow. On June 14, 1992, he was married to Rebecca "Becky" Minor. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Stephanie Glasgow.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Glasgow of Lockesburg; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Allen and Carolyn Glasgow of Horatio, Jonathan and Jessica Glasgow of Lockesburg, Slade Bissell of Dierks, Colby Glasgow of Lockesburg and Craig Glasgow of Lockesburg; four grandchildren, Matthew Glasgow, Jacob Glasgow, Lexie Simmons and Cadee Glasgow; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Rhonda Glasgow of Livingston, Texas and Phillip and Jamie Glasgow of Newhope; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Ray Mounts of Dierks, Rhonda and Ronnie Hunter of Newhope, Kim and Bill Roberts of Lockesburg and Stacey Crow of Dierks.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 17, 2010, in the Dierks Church of Christ with Kelly Brown and Kenny Fant officiating.

Mr. Glasgow will lie in state at his home, 22 Hwy 369 South, Newhope, Arkansas beginning at 2:00 PM, Tuesday.

Interment will be in the Bissell Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be his nephews and include Shane Glasgow, Jeremy Mounts, Jeffrey Mounts, Phillip Glasgow, II, Mason Glasgow, Brandon Alexander, Cole Alexander, Justin Alexander, Spencer Crow, Jordan Crow and Jason Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and include Heather Glasgow, Casey Hunter, Erin Sprick, Lindsay Green, Pamela Roberts and Lisa Howard.

Dwain Jackson

Dwain Jackson, age 76, of Dierks, died Saturday, March 13, 2010.

He was born on November 22, 1933 at Dierks, the son of Trolas Elmer Jackson and Nannie Lee Brown Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jason Reid; and two brothers, Darrell Jackson and Norman Jackson.

Dwain was a Navy veteran and a Christian in his faith. He attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia where he received his Bachelors of Science in Education degree. He taught in several public school systems across the state which included the Umpire and Amity districts. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. As an accomplished musician on the mandolin and guitar, he loved playing and listening to bluegrass music.

He is survived by two sons, Tony Jackson and his wife, Dana, of Nashville and James "Jimbo" Jackson and his wife, Kimberly, of Fayetteville; one daughter, Sherry Skinner and her husband, Jesse, of Dierks; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Cole Jackson, Carly Jackson, Bailey Jackson and Joey Reid; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Jackson of Tacoma, Washington; one sister, Connie Johnson and her husband, Larry, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Johnny Arnold and Bro. Billy Tom Young officiating.

Visitation will be Monday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Dierks under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Johnson, Tyler Jackson, Jeffrey Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Cole Jackson and Joey Reid.

Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove Cemetery Association, c/o Carma Nell Bradshaw, 469 Jackson Road, Dierks, Arkansas, 71833.

TIMOTHY LLOYD PEARCE

MR. TIMOTHY LLOYD PEARCE, AGE 54, A RESIDENT OF DE QUEEN, ARKANSAS, DIED MONDAY, MARCH 8TH AT HIS HOME.
HE WAS BORN TO CHARLES LLOYD AND BOBBIE JEAN Johnson PEARCE AT SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, ON AUGUST 19, 1955. HE WAS A CARPENTER, AND ENJOYED FISHING, HUNTING, RIDING MOTORCYCLES, AND LOVED THE GAME OF DOMINOS.

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS MOTHER, BOBBIE JEAN COOK, A BROTHER, LARRY PEARCE, AND A DAUGHTER, MEAGAN PEARCE.

HE IS SURVIVED BY ONE DAUGHTER, BRITTANY PEARCE OF HAWLEY, TEXAS, HIS FATHER, CHARLES L. PEARCE OF GENOA, ARKANSAS, THREE BROTHERS, MIKE PEARCE, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, CHRIS PEARCE OF TEXARKANA, TEX., AND ROBERT KIMBALL OF TEX., A SISTER, DENISA OSTER OF TEXARKANA, ARK., A GRANDDAUGHTER, SOPHIA SMITH OF HAWLEY, TEXAS, AND A NUMBER OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MR. TIM PEARCE ARE ENTRUSTED TO CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME AND WILL BE HELD AT 3:00 P.M., SUNDAY, MARCH 14TH IN THE CHAPEL HILL Cemetery, DE QUEEN, WITH HIS BROTHER, ROBERT MARK KIMBALL OFFICIATING.

Mary Opal Metz

Mary Opal Metz, 94, of Mena, AR, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at a Mena nursing home. She was born October 9, 1915, at Dierks, AR, the daughter of the late Charles Marion and Minnie Virginia Walters Gaddis.

She was a Baptist; a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Mrs. Metz was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Metz; brothers, Bill Gaddis, T. Gaddis, twin brother, J.O. Gaddis, and one sister, Lurl Mae Lands.

She is survived by one brother, C.V. Gaddis of Dierks, Ar. two sisters, Ina Call of Clovis, NM and Leah Cooper of Salpulpa, OK; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 12, at Greens Chapel Cemetery, with Bro. Bobby Neal officiating, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.

Memorials may be made to Greens Chapel Cemetery Fund.

James Ronald Mayton

James Ronald Mayton known to most as "Big Ron", died March 8, 2010 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born June 1, 1947 to James and Wanda Mayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Mayton.

He is survived by his sisters, Brenda Hewitt of Malvern, Arkansas, Cindy and her husband Kenny Wacaster of Pearcy, Arkansas and one niece of which he loved and was proud of, Laci Ross of Pearcy and many friends.

Growing up he played sports of all kinds, but he was best at football and he went to Ouachita Baptist University on a scholarship. Among his most prized awards was being named all AIC player of 1967 and 1968 and being named to the all decade team of the 60’s along with his best friend Frankie Vines.

After college he coached for a while but he spent most of his adult life as an independent contractor who always strived for perfection. Being a great cook, avid poker player and true sportsman, he loved to share his food as well as his opinions and advise with everyone.

In honor of his wishes there will be no service.

Memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or just do something kind for someone in his honor.
