Clara Priscella Dyer Jackson

Mrs. Clara Priscella Dyer Jackson, age 89, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Good Water, Oklahoma, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 in the Crystal Falls Nursing Home, De Queen.
She was born to James Aaron and Ollie Josephine Orrick Dyer at Gracemont, Oklahoma, on October 23, 1919. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed quilting, carpentry, gardening, and driving.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Delma Fletcher, Stanley Dyer, Betrice Dyer, and Cecil Dyer, and in 1984, her husband, Charlie Jackson She is survived by two daughters, Geneva D. Nettles of Horatio, and Katherine Ann Kosters of Murrieta, Calif., one sister, Hazel Davis of Chickasha, Oklahoma, six grandchildren, Eric, Jill, Paula, Debra, Jon, and Derrick, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Clara Jackson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Nichols officiating, under direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Doyle Wayne Shaw

Mr. Doyle Wayne Shaw, age 47, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana.

He was born to Doyle O. “Buck” and Shirley Lois Monroe Shaw at De Queen, Arkansas, on May 8, 1961. He was retired from Pilgrim’s Pride, and was an active member of the First Pentecostal Church of God, De Queen. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Marie Bunn Shaw of De Queen, one son and daughter-in-law, Branden and Crystal Dickerson of De Queen, two daughters and a son-in-law, Charla Johnson, Denise and Tim Mobbs all of De Queen; his parents, Buck and Shirley Shaw of De Queen, two brothers, David Wayne Shaw of Chicago, Ill, and Ronnie Dale Shaw of De Queen, two sisters, Sheila and Jamie Patterson, and Teresa Shaw, both of De Queen, six grandchildren, Brande, Seth, Kyah, Kennedy, Eli, and Allie, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Doyle Shaw will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in the First Pentecostal Church of God, De Queen with Rev. James Lewis and Rev. Eddie Schlinker officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 23rd.

Preston Wayne Bell

Mr. Preston Wayne Bell, age 66, of Wickes, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Texarkana.

He was born September 3, 1942 in Wickes, Arkansas to the late William Arthur Bell and the late Coy Juanita Bales Bell. He was united in marriage to Emma Turnbough. Mr. Bell worked for Tyson and was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend.

He is survived by his wife Emma Bell of the home; his children: Delbert Wayne Bell of Spokane, Washington, Todd Bell of Cove, Arkansas, Robert Bell of Moses Lake, Washington, Coy Loredo of Wickes, Arkansas, Cloy Sherrouse of Wickes, Arkansas, Emily Leeper of Hope, Arkansas, Mary Ellen Bell of Wickes, Arkansas; one step-son Jacob Shaw of Texarkana, Texas; 4 sisters; 7 brothers & 18 grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Coy Bell, and 3 brothers, Harvey Lenard Bell, Richard Coy Bell, and Preston Leroy Bell.

Mr. Bell was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later time.

Kathy Stafford

Kathy Stafford

Mrs. Mary Katherine Northcutt Stafford, age 70, a resident of the West Otis Community of Sevier County, Arkansas, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in the Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana.
She was the daughter of William and Lizzie Northcutt and was born on July 11, 1938 at Bogata, Texas. Kathy was raised by her aunt and uncle, Allison and Maudie Jane Smith. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking, crafts, sewing, soap operas, and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her adoptive parents, two brothers, Cleo and Eugene Northcutt, two sisters, Elaine Northcutt and Bonnie Kennedy, and in April of 2008, her husband, Jack Stafford.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kathy Baker of Longview, Texas, Kenny Baker of Avery, Texas, and Stacy and Iva Gail Stafford of Harrell, Texas, two daughters, Lydia and Jim Landrum, and Rallye Erwin all of Terrell, Texas, two sisters, Lena Herman of Dikes, Texas, and Wilma Ledford of Bogata, Texas, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of Nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Kathy Stafford will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2009 in the West Otis Cemetery with Rev. Joe Carlton, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday, March 21st from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

David Michael Volentine

David Michael Volentine, age 54, a resident of Memphis, TN, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Health Baptist East Hospital, Memphis, TN.

He was born to Horace J. M. and Coyes Honea Volentine on July 30, 1954 at Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a chiropractor and practiced in Indiana and Arkansas,. He served in the military with the U.S. Army and was a Baptist. He enjoyed reading, computers, electronics, and teaching.

He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Volentine.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Volentine of Memphis, TN,; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather Michelle and John Scott of Jonesboro, AR; two sons: Dustin Honea Volentine of Salem, Oregon, and Whitten Wright of Volentine of Kaneohe, Hawaii; his mother Cloyes Volentine of De Queen; a sister, Brenda A. Jones of De Queen; two granddaughters: Katherine and Abigail; two nieces and one nephew.

Memorial services for David Volentine will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2009 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Hebert and Rev. Ron Paul officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Jessica Nichole Lopez

Jessica Nichole Lopez, age 6, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at her Home.

She was born to Ramiro and Barbara Schiffman Lopez at De Queen, Arkansas on December 16, 2002. She was a kindergarten student at De Queen School, and attended the First Pentecostal Church of God. She enjoyed playing with babies, T-Ball, and Soccer.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Carolyn Schiffman, and her Great-grandmother, Linnie Lorene Brizendine.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Jorge Chabelo of De Queen, her paternal grandmother, Eva Camacho of Mexico, her paternal grandfather, Rogelio Lopez of Mexico, her maternal grandfather, James Schiffman of De Queen, and a number of Aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Hispanic funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19th from 6:00 until 7:30 pm at the First Pentecostal Church of God at Jones & Maple in De Queen. Family visitation will follow from 7:30 until 9:30 pm.

Funeral Services for Jessica Lopez will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2009 in the First Pentecostal Church of God with Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Avon Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Donnell Louis “JoeJoe” Johnson

Mr. Donnell Louis “JoeJoe” Johnson, age 62, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in the St. Joseph Mercy Health Center, Hot Springs.
He was born to Ocie and Pinkie Wherry Johnson at DeKalb, Texas, on December 24, 1946. He was a veteran of the Vietname War, having served in the U. S. Army. He was a truck driver for PRT, and was an active member of the Mt. Phebia Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading the Bible, fishing, and watching Westerns. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Johnny Johnson, and Burel Johnson, four sisters, Arnetha Harp, Betty McNeal, Carrie Griffin, and Sarah Jean Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Debra Clardy Johnson of Horatio, two daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea Fenee’ and Stephen Murdock of Little Rock, Arnetha and LeRoy Hardwrick, Jr. of Foreman, Ark.; three sons, Robbie Stephens of Houston, Texas, Andre Johnson of Horatio, and Marcus Johnson of Dallas, Texas, one brother, Billy Joe Johnson of Broken Bow, Okla.; three sisters, Dorothy Dixon and Marie Owens both of DeKalb, Texas, and Hazel Ingram-Nair of Carlsbad, New Mexico, nine grandchildren, Jasmine, Jordan, and Jade Hardwick, Joshua Murdock, Caleb Johnson McGaha, Robert Stephens, Quincy Johnson, Robbie Stephens, Jr., and Jeremiah Johnson, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Donnell Johnson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2009 in the Mt. Phebia Baptist Church, Horatio with Rev. Wylie Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Acres Cemetery, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.,

Olin Basil Strasner

Mr. Olin Basil Strasner, age 87, a resident of Dierks, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 in the Dierks Health and Rehab Center .

He was born March 18, 1921 in Umpire, Arkansas to Jeff and Arabia Manasco Strasner. He was an employee of the Arkansas Forestry Commission, a World War II U.S. Coast Guard veteran, a member of the Umpire Community Church, served on the Howard County Quorum Court and served on the Umpire School Board.

Mr. Strasner was preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson, Kaleb Luke Strasner.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel Payte Strasner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Donna Strasner of Umpire, Ken and Sharon Strasner of Dierks, and Kerry and Laura Strasner of Umpire; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Strasner will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009 in the Umpire Community Church with John Henry Williams and Don Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery , under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 13th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Mary Ellen McLaughlin Hankins

Mrs. Mary Ellen McLaughlin Hankins, 72, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her home.

She was born to Clifton and Della Musgrave McLaughlin in Howard County, near Wickes, on April 10, 1936. She was a Registered Nurse, as well as homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wickes, and enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, quilting, embroidery, and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leonard McLaughlin, a half-brother, Boyd Williams, and a step-son, Ernest Hankins.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas “Bud” Hankins of De Queen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Holly Hensley of Horatio, and Craig and Tina Hensley of De Queen, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Kirby Wallace of Foreman, Ark.; a step-son, Jerry and his wife, DeAnn Hankins of Silver City, New Mexico, a step-daughter, Darlene Hankins of Tucson, Arizona, a brother, John McLaughlin of Wickes, Four sisters, Jeannie White, and Patsy Hill both of Wickes, Darlene Manasco of Umpire, Ark.; and Lynn Daves of Avoka, Ark.; ten grandchildren, Robbie Evans, Heather Williams, Nikki Evans, Cheyanne Wallace, Lacosta Henlsey, Jamie Hensley, Jamie Hankins, Jerry hankins, Candy Hankins, and Lindsey Hankins, and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Hankins will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church of Wickes with Bro. Leon McCleskey officiating. Burial will follow in the Duckett Cemetery, Wickes, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 13th.
