Frank "Grandpa" Branson

Mr. Frank "Grandpa Branson, a resident of Eagletown, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

He was born June 17, 1932 in Mineral Arkansas to Lester and Lola Branson.

He graduated from Gillham High School in 1951. He joined the U.S. Air Force serving his country for 4 years.

Frank and Geraldine Higgins were united in marriage February 13, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a member of the Latter Day Saints Church in Grannis, Arkansas.

He was a retired rancher. He enjoyed his cattle, working in his garden, playing with his small dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren and loved ones.

His favorite past time was watching old Western and the Razorbacks on TV.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Winford Morphew.

He is survived by his wife; a son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Christie Branson of Eagletown, Oklahoma; a daughter and son-in-law: Lisa and Tracy Herrington of Idabel, Oklahoma; four grandsons: Chase Leonard of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Mathew Leonard of Eagletown, Oklahoma, Carlton Leonard of Idabel, Oklahoma, and Riley Branson of Eagletown; one granddaughter: BriAnna Branson of Eagletown, Oklahoma; two step-granddaughters: Magon Herrington of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Mackenzee Herrington of Idabel; one brother and sister-in-law; L.B. and Mary Branson of Paso Robles, California and one sister, Laverne Morphew of De Queen; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Branson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Duane Alspaw and Bro. Wayne Cary officiating. Burial will follow in the Millcreek Cemetery in Gillham, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends form 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 14th at the funeral home.

Johnnie Olene Price Smith

Mrs. Johnnie Olene Price Smith, age 86, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Thursday, March 13th in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Johnny and Bessie Price at De Queen, Arkansas, on January 5, 1922.

She was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Louise Pate, and on September 30, 1975, her husband, W. D. Smith.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Orville Wayne and Verna Smith of De Queen, one grandson, David Smith of Texarkana, Ark.; one granddaughter, Haley Smith of De Queen, three nieces, Flora Jo Anderson of Russellville, Ark.; Shirley Loyd of Danville, Ark.; and Doris Gibson of Little Rock, Ark.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Olene Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 14th.

Gloria Gomez Hernandez

Gloria Gomez Hernandez, age 35, a resident of Gillham, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born May 25, 1972 in Mexico to J. Refujio Gomez Flores and Rufina Martinez. She was employed by Husqvarna in Nashville, Arkansas.

She is survived by her children, Cristal Hernandez, Melissa Hernandez, Elizabeth Hernandez and Larry Labra all of Gillham.

A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 19th in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held in Mexico.

Herschel Dwayne Eudy

Herschel Dwayne Eudy, age 58, a resident of Dierks, AR died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville.

He was born July 21, 1949 in Dierks to Ruby F. and Essie Westbrook Eudy. He was a C.P.A., graduated from Arkansas State University, was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, coached PeeWee football & baseball, was a member of the Dierks School Board for 15 years, past president of the Dierks Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Jaycees, board of directors of the First National Bank of Dierks, and was on the board of the Dierks Medical Assn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ruby Eudy; and two sisters, Clarice Roden and Janice Duggan.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Dove Eudy; two sons, Brian Eudy and Tony Eudy; his mother, Essie Westbrook Eudy, all of Dierks; two brothers, Vernon Eudy of Little Rock, AR and Charles Eudy of Norman, AR; one sister, Audrey House of Dierks; four grandchildren, Brooke, Brady, Jacob, and Jason; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Eudy will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks. Burial will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Dierks Chapel.

Pat McNeal

Pat McNeal, age 73, a resident of DeQueen, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 in Texarkana, TX.

He was born March 17, 1934 in Haworth, OK to Earl and Mary Harkrider McNeal. He was a logger, a member of the Solid Rock Full Gospel Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his peach orchard.

He was preceded in death by three sons, David Kim McNeal, Terry McNeal and Michael Patrick McNeal; a daughter, Doris Neugebauer; and a number of brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Thomas McNeal of DeQueen; two sisters, Dora Mae Williams and Eunice Burcham, both of Eagletown, OK; a brother, Wilburn McNeal of Texas; a special brother-in-law, Sonny Thomas; 13 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. McNeal will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in the Horatio Cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

James William Whitaker

Mr. James William Whitaker, age 74, a resident of Dierks, died Friday, March 7, 2008 at his home.

He was born June 22, 1933 in Stone County, Arkansas to Harrison and Mamie Mae Brewer Whitaker. He was a truck driver and a member of the First Baptist Church in Dierks.

Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Hall Whitaker; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammie and Mike Whisenhunt of Nashville; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sheila Whitaker of New Hope; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Whitaker will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. Ellis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Dierks Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, March 9th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Benjamin Franklin Groves

Mr. Benjamin Franklin Groves, age 77, a resident of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at his home.

He was born August 17, 1930 in Springfield, Missouri to Cecil and Lottie Barton Groves. He was an Electrical Engineer for the National Weather Service for 34 years, an Army Veteran having served in World War II and a member of the Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Groves was preceded in death by one son, Clay Groves, four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Clay Groves of Texarkana, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Laura Groves of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister, Helen Locke of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Joel, Luke, Andrew and David.

Funeral Services for Mr. Groves will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 in the Falls Chapel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ann Holley and Rev. Jerry Creek officiating. Burial will follow in the Falls Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 8th at the home of Pat Clay in Lockesburg.

Annie Mae McClinton Simpson

Mrs. Annie Mae McClinton Simpson, age 96, a resident of Port Arthur, Texas died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 in Nederland, Texas.

She was born May 11, 1911 in Cerro Gordo to John and Amanda McClinton. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Calvin Richard Simpson who passed away February 11, 1966.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Gwen Simpson and one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Chester Bethel, all of Nederland, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Loretha Duke of Horatio and Janey Simpson of Eagletown, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Simpson will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5th at the funeral home in De Queen.

Rosie Rashele Collins

Rosie Rashele Collins, age 18, a resident of Umpire, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 in the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville.

She was born February 27, 1990 at Incirlik Air Base in Adana, Turkey to Mark and Renee Arivett Collins. She was a Senior at Umpire High School where she was on the Lady Wildcat Basketball team, a member of the FBLA, FHA, FCCLA and Lifesaver.

She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Della Collins and Shirley Arivett.

She is survived by her parents, Mark and Renee Collins of Umpire; two sisters and a brother-in law: Lesley and Richard Widerspan and Samantha Collins all of Texarkana, Arkansas; one niece: Kadence Wiederspan also of Texarkana; and by her grandfathers, Billy Ray Collins of Mt. Ida and Vernon Arivett of New Hope.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 in the Umpire High School Gym. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6th at the funeral home in Dierks.
