Marcella Broyles

Mrs. Elizabeth Marcella Broyles, 87, of Longview, Texas, died Wednesday, February 13 in Longview.

She was born May 16, 1920 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mrs. Broyles was a resident of De Queen, Arkansas for 43 years where she operated her own beauty shop. Prior to that she traveled with her husband, J. C. Broyles in his work as a pipeline welder.

She is survived by a sister-in-law: Constance McCoy of Longview and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, February 15, 2008 at 10 am at Grace Hill Cemetery in Longview with Deacon John Shaffer officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.

Linda Sue McWhorter

Mrs. Linda Sue McWhorter, age 62, a resident of Lockesburg, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born June 5, 1945 in Lockesburg to John and Kate Slaton Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg.

Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Betty Ligon.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh McWhorter; three daughters and sons-in-law, Twyla and James Nichols of Nashville, Arkansas, Misty and Gary Masengale of Parrish, Florida, and Mindy and Jason King of Lockesburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Denean McWhorter also of Lockesburg; one brother, Raymond Smith of Dierks; five sisters, Hattie Sullivan of Texarkana, Arkansas, Pauline Dossey of Ogden, Bessie Tabler of Ashdown, Doris Houser and Martha Kate McWhorter both of Lockesburg; and nine grandchildren, Erin, Morgan, Leah, Storm, Andy, Nick, Zack, Brody and Caleb.

Funeral Services for Mrs. McWhorter will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2008 in the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Faye Turner

Mrs. Faye Lemley Turner, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the Brookwood Nursing Center, De Queen.

She was born to Riley Clifton and Lena Frances Warford Lemley, at De Queen, Arkansas, on July 4, 1935. She was retired from First National Bank, where she served as Assistant Vice-President and Loan Officer, with 44 ½ years service. She was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, and enjoyed working, crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Vernon Clifton Lemley, and John Milus Derrell Lemley, two sisters, Lois Irene Crowder, and Lena Laverne Buford.

Faye is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Eddy Joe Turner, Sr. of De Queen, one son, Eddy Joe (Joey) Turner, Jr. of De Queen, four grandchildren, Ashley Faye Daniel of Lowell, Ark.; Trenton Joel Turner of Fayetteville, Landon Lee Turner, and Autumn Sharline Turner both of De Queen, six great-grandchildren, Lexi, Layni, Kelton, Koleane, Kellie, and Addison, four sisters, Velma Lorene Berry Lightfoot, Beulah Bernice Williamson, Betty Jeane Reid all of Stonewall, La.; and Mary Lou Beane of Ft. Gibson, Okla., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Faye Turner will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2008 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Carlton and Rev. J. L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008.

Mrs. Myrtle Peninger

Mrs. Myrtle Grace Helwig Peninger, age 85, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Monday, February 11, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center, De Queen.

She was born to Herman Henry and Myrtle Irene Knittle Helwig at Varney, Montana, on August 3, 1922. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, making dolls, and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Henry Helwig, two sisters, Margaret Atkins and Lena Crinch, her first husband, Walter Henry Daems, and her second husband, Felix Hamel.

She is survived by her husband, Jack W. Peninger of De Queen, one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Billy Whisenhunt of De Queen, Ark., three step-sons and daughters-in-law: Billy Peninger, Jim and Kathy Peninger of Idaho, Jack and Isabel Peninger of Colorado, two step-daughters and son-in-law, Judy Roth and Susie and Joe Bacca of New Mexico, a grandson, Ricky Whisenhunt of De Queen, one granddaughter, Sheryl Whisenhunt of De Queen, one great-grandson, Johnny Lee Whisenhunt, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Peninger will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Battiest Cemetery, Battiest, Oklahoma, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen

David Philip Hefner

David Philip Hefner, age 84, a resident of Mena, AR died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at his home.

He was born January 24, 1924 in Batesville, AR to John W. Hefner, Sr. and Ruth Hargis Hefner. Dr. Hefner served in WWII flying torpedo bombers off of the USS Lunga Point in the Pacific Theater. He attended medical school in Little Rock after service days and graduated in 1951. He served an internship in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He started practice after moving to Mena in 1953 and served the people of this area until 1983. He was on the staff of Mena Hospital and Wilhelmina Medical Center, serving a term as chief of staff. He served as head of emergency room at Crawford Hospital in Van Buren, AR for six years. He married Donna Gaddis Lovell in 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Sybil Jeanne Hoover; a son, Charles Alan Hefner; a sister, Anne Twedt; a step-daughter, Laurie Lynn & husband Stan Craig; two step-sons, Jimmy Lovell and Jeff & wife Michelle Lovell; a special sister-in-law, Betty Johnson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Gaddis; five grandsons, six granddaughters, five great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

Funeral services for Dr. Hefner will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church in Mena with Rev. Gaylon Cope and Rev. Gary Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Greens Chapel Cemetery near Dierks, AR, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 in the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.

Memorials may be made to the Mena Regional Support Foundation in honor of Dr. David P. Hefner.

Mrs. Cynthia Nichols

Mrs. Cynthia Carol Rackley Nichols, age 42, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Thursday, February 7, 2008, in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Charles Wayne and Carolyn Norene Pack Rackley at Russellville, Arkansas, on December 8, 1965.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by one son, Jonathan Nichols of Dover, Ark.; one brother, Wayne Rackley of Hector, Ark.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be in Yell County. Cremation was under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Mr. Hubert Clyde Green

Hubert Clyde Green, age 85, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in Dalhart, Texas.

He was born October 2, 1922 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Troy and Elsie Goldsmith Green. He grew up in Texas and Arkansas. In 1973 he married Thelma Scott Corley in Artesia, NM. They moved to Del Rio, TX in 1984 and to Logan, NM in 1999. Thelma died in 2006. Hubert's hobbies included rebuilding and flying private airplanes, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, two brothers, Carl and Troy and 2 sisters, Lucille Crouch and Elsie Delayhush.

Survivors include his sons: Charles and wife Kay Green of Avinger, Texas, Robert and wife Margaret Green of Franklin, Tennessee; his step-son, Eddie and wife Mary Corley of Logan, New Mexico; a daughter, Peggy and husband Ken Sawyer of Avinger, Texas; one brother Richard (Dick) and wife Shirley Green; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 15 nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2008 in the Mt. Ida Cemetery near De Queen, Arkansas with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mr. Gary Etzkorn

Gary Etzkorn, age 61, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Thursday, February 7, 2008 in a Texarkana Hospital.

He was born January 31, 1947 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Rudolph Emil and Mildred Lensing Etzkorn. he was a senior project manager with Dow Chemical, served in the U.S. Navy and was a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Etzkorn and two nieces.

He is survived by his mother, Mildred Etzkorn of De Queen, Arkansas; three brothers: Tom Etzkorn of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Randy Etzkorn of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Jim Etzkorn of Edgemont, Arkansas; two sisters: Joyce Wagner of Horatio, Arkansas and Janet Mock of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces, and nephews.

Funeral mass for Mr. Etzkorn will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the St. Barbara's Catholic Church under the direction of Wilkerson funeral Home.

The Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday the 8th with visitation following from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Wilkerson chapel.

Mr. Bennie Hugh Tyson

Bennie Hugh Tyson, age 81, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in Ashdown, Arkansas.

He was born July May 26, 1926 in Little River County to Charles and Mellie McCoy Tyson. He was a guard for Texas U.S. Chemicals and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Tyson.

He is survived by three daughters and three sons, Linda Mazzola of Vista California; Larry Tyson of Winthrop, Arkansas; Kenneth Tyson of Foreman, Arkansas; Debbie Elms of Moreno Valley, California; Terry Tyson of Sulpher, Oklahoma; Donna Keeney of Groves, Texas; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Tyson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the Campground Cemetery with Leon Klitz officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday the 8th at the funeral Home.

Mr. Russell Leroy Irvan

Mr. Russell Leroy Irvan, age 87, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Benjamin Franklin and Eva Chewning Irvan at Horatio, Arkansas, on April 5, 1920. He was retired from Pilgrim’s Pride, and was a cattleman and rancher. He was a member of the Williamson Community Church, and enjoyed watching bull riding, and his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Leonard Irvan, Bunder Irvan, Johnnie Irvan, Jesse Irvan, Buck Irvan, Red Irvan, Freddie Irvan, Frankie Patton, Verna Ashley, Bob Williamson, Violet Williamson, Rachel Talley, Trilby Nickerson, and Myrtle Irvan, and in 1996, his wife, Alma Correne James Irvan.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kirby and Gayla Irvan of Horatio, and Terry Irvan of Horatio; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elaine Stark of Horatio, and Kathy and Pete Minor of Horatio; three sisters, Della Young, Horatio, Sybel Young of Horatio, and Evelyn Young of Turlock, Calif., seven grandchildren, Susan Minor Allen, Clayton Minor, Sabrina Irvan, Alex Irvan, Lee Ann Reed, and Carrie Rivas, and Cathy Day, nine great-grandchildren, Rander & Cyle Allen, Carter and Elaina Rivas, Mckenie and Turner Reed, Clayburn Ledesma, Jessie & Hunter Day, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Russell Irvan will be held at 10:00 a.m, Friday, February 8, 2008 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Roden and Rev. J. L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2008. Memorials may be given to the Williamson Community Church or the Clear Creek Cemetery, in care of the Horatio State Bank.
