Virginia Elizabeth Eckstein

Virginia Elizabeth Eckstein, 72, of Columbus, died Monday, December 24, 2007 at Saint Francis Hospital.

Virginia was born April 1, 1935 in De Queen, Arkansas, daughter of the late John Koelzer and Elizabeth Blocke Koelzer. She was retired from American National Insurance Company as an agent and was an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church as well as an active volunteer with the St. Anne Outreach Program. Virginia was a woman of deep faith and was always giving and doing for others. Survivors include two daughters, Anna Rulon and son-in-law, David, of Columbus, GA and Valerie Bowden and son-in-law, Peter, of Midland, GA; four sons, Paul Eckstein of Columbus, GA, Bill Eckstein and daughter-in-law, Cathy, of Camden, SC, David Eckstein and Tommy Eckstein, both of Columbus, GA; one sister, Sarah Trebone of De Queen, AR; two brothers, Phil Koelzer of De Queen, AR and Joe Koelzer of Texas; six grandchildren, Ben Rulon, Brad Rulon, Rebecca Eckstein, Deborah Eckstein, John Eckstein and Elizabeth Eckstein; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Schreck officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The following will serve as active Pallbearers: Ben Rulon, Brad Rulon, Peter Bowden, David Rulon, John Eckstein and Phillip Bowden. A rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. Thursday followed by a family visitation until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.

Mr. Grover A. Terry

Grover A. Terry of Mt. Ida, AR died December 26, 2007.

Grover was born December 6, 1924 in Glenwood, AR to Walter Terry and Mandy Foshee Terry. Mr. Terry is survived by his wife of 26 years, Laverne; Three sons: Jeff Terry and Leon Terry of De Queen and Greg Terry of Horatio; one daughter: Patricia James of Mt. Ida and one stepson, Mike Markham of Hot Springs; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29th at Faith Tabernacle in Mt. Ida with Bro. Paul Burke officiating. Pallbearers will be Kevin Terry, Dustin Terry, Brandon Melton, Don Ponder, Jason James and David James.

Interment will be in Mt. Ida Cemetery, Mt. Ida, AR under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Mr. Raymond Loflin

Mr. Raymond Loflin, age 84, a resident of Horatio, died Thursday, December 20, 2007 at his home.

He was born October 17, 1923 in Winnsboro, Louisiana to William and Mattie Jewel Loflin. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Air Force. He lived in Temple City, California for over 20 years before he retired from Brake Meyer Transport and moved to Horatio to live out the rest of his years among his family and friends. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for over 30 years.

Mr. Loflin was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and one granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Barrington Loflin of Horatio; one son, Raymond Dale Loflin of Horatio; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Curtis Reynolds of Horatio; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Evis West of Monroe, LA, Florence D. Smith of Monroe, LA; Lovie and Donald Boutwell of Kingwood, TX; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as extended family Joseph and Penny Reynolds and their three children, Rustin, Hannah and Paul Aaron which he loved as his own grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Loflin will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22nd at the funeral home.

Randall Gene “Randy” Murry

Randall Gene “Randy” Murry, age 42 a resident of Winthrop, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at his parents home.

He was born November 14, 1965 in De Queen to Jimmy and Donna Click Murry. He was a carpenter, loved to hunt and fish, and a member of the Winthrop First United Methodist Church

. He is survived by two daughters, Ashley Murry and Courtney Murry both of North Little Rock, Arkansas; one son, Chase Murry of Ashdown; his parents, Jimmy and Donna Murry of Winthrop; two brothers, Jimmy Murry, Jr. of Ashdown and Clark Murry of Winthrop, one grandson, Caleb Smith and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2007 in the Winthrop First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19th at the funeral home.

Mr. William Douglas Bradshaw

Mr. William Douglas Bradshaw, age 85, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 in the V. A. Hospital, Shreveport, La.

He was born to William Arch and Lora Eunice Jenkins Bradshaw at Richmond, Arkansas, on June 7, 1922. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 69th Infantry Regiment, U. S. Army, under General Patton. He return to the Lone Oak Community, where he was a life long farmer and cattle rancher. He enjoyed working cattle, gardening, and sharing life with his family.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Waters, two brothers, J. C. Bradshaw and E. H. Bradshaw, and his wife, Verna Rogers Bradshaw.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Willis Niemeyer, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Patty Bradshaw, and a daughter, Carolyn Bradshaw, all of De Queen, four sisters and three brothers, Lorine Adams of Parris, Texas, C. M. Bradshaw of Liberty City, Texas, Clarie Shaw of Horatio, Ark.; Archie Bradshaw of Arlington, Texas, Bonnie McGhee of Pottsboro, Texas, Yvonne Lenard of Orange, Texas, and Larry Bradshaw of Horatio, Ark.; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. W. D. Bradshaw will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. L. Walker officiating. Burial with military Honors will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 17th.

Mr. Johnny Mauldin

Mr. Johnny Arnold Mauldin, age 60, a resident of De Queen died Thursday, December 13, 2007 at his home.

He was born November 25, 21947, in De Queen, Arkansas to Berry and Dell Johnson Mauldin. he was a veteran of the Vietname War, having served in the U.S. Army, and was retired from the D&E Railroad, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of De Queen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of over 38 years, Barbara Pilkington Mauldin of De Queen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wendy and Joe Banes of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Sandra Mauldin of De Queen; one brother and sister-in-law, B.A. and May Mae Mauldin of Farmington, Arkansas; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Scott Russell of De Queen and Lisa and Leon Campell of De Queen,; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Mauldin will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 17th, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Redmen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Rueben John Partain

Mr. Reuben John Partain, 75, of Murfreesboro died Tuesday, December 11, 2007.

He was born April 27, 1932 at Union Hill, Montgomery County, Arkansas.

He was the son of Jefferson H. and Gladys B. Phillips Partain.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During his service, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. His company was awarded a Presidential citation.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Merle and Earl Partain.

Survivors are: his wife Dorothy Kennedy Partain; one son, John and wife Judy Partain of De Queen; one daughter Nancy Synco of Murfreesboro, AR; five grandchildren: J.J. and wife Stephanie, Courtney Reese, Chelsey Partain, all of De Queen, Geoffrey and Dani Synco of Murfreesboro; one brother Eutah and wife Helen Partain of Story; three sisters Elva Clenny of Story, Shirley Taylor of Fannie, and Betty Cowger of Hot Springs, Village, Arkansas.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Breshears Cemetery in Story, Arkansas on Friday, December 14th at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Roger Harper officiating.

Visitation will be at the Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday, December 13th.

Mr. Leonard Sneed

Mr. Leonard Sneed, age 63, of Wickes passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in Mena.

He was born October 4, 1944 in Converse, Louisiana to the late Lois Sneed and the last Hazel Estes Sneed. He was united in marriage to Marie Kuykendall Powell on November 22, 1999. H was a truck driver by profession and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, step-father and friend.

He is survived by his wife Marie Powell Need of Wickes, AR; two sons: tom Sneed of Clinton, MS and Allen Sneed of New Orleans, LA; a daughter Aren Sneed of New Orleans, LA; his step-father J. A. Norwood of Bell Chasse, LA; two step-sons: Jeff Kuykendall of Horatio, AR and J.R. Powell of Grannis, AR; three step-daughters: Cindy Turnbough of Wickes, AR, Noreen Pierce of Hatton, AR, and Nancy House of Cove, AR; 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Hazel Sneed.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 14, 2007 at 2;00 p.m. at the Wickes Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Tom Hunter and Rev. James Gathright officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Julian R. Williamson

Julian R. Williamson, age 86, of Mena passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 at his home.

He was born March 10, 1921 in Grannis, Arkansas to the late Rela and Sadie Lawrence Williamson. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Shiro. He worked in the lumber industry and was a loving husband, step-father and friend.

Survivors are his wife Betty Jean Williamson of Mena, Arkansas; Step-Daughter Bobbie Griffin of Mena, Arkansas; and Step-Grandson: Zane Griffin of Mena, Arkansas

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Nellie Glenn Williamson.

Mr. Williamson was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Mrs. Willie Lee Gibson

Mrs. Willie Lee Gibson, age 90, a resident of Horatio, AR died Monday, December 10, 2007 at her home.

She was born April 12, 1917 in Foreman, Arkansas to Richard and Lenora Kesterson. She married John Thomas Parrish on December 23, 1931. She was a member of the Damascus Missionary Baptist Church at Melrose.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Thomas Parrish to whom she was married for 42 years and Tommy Gibson to whom she was married for 20 years; three sons, Junior Parrish, Lee Parrish and Donald Gene Parrish; one sister, Georgie Dollarhide and a step-daughter, Glenda Hannigan.

She is survived by four children, Margaret Clayton, and her husband Bobby of Atlanta, Texas, James Parrish and his wife Betty of Dewey, Oklahoma, Thomas Parrish and his wife Sammie of De Queen and Doyle Parrish and his wife Marie of Benton, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews; her step-son, Tony Gibson and his wife Juanita of Big Fork, Arkansas; her step-daughter, Debbie Hankins and her husband Larry of Horatio; 8 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Gibson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Parsons and Rev. Joe Walden officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Goldie Fern Mahler Cherry

Mrs. Goldie Fern Mahler Cherry, age 94, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in the De Queen Medical Center. She was born to Harley and Ruth Falstich Mahler in DeLong, Indiana, on December 9, 1913.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Albert and Alvin Mahler, two sisters, Dora Joan Mahler, and Nora Belle Thornton, her first husband, Gordon Miller in Germany on Dec. 1, 1944, and her second husband, Lyle E. Cherry, June 8, 1983, a granddaughter, Leslie Michelle Cherry in 1991.

She was a member of the WAC Hospital Corp in World War II, and served in hospital in Temple, Texas; was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Beacon Hill, and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #4521 in De Queen and life member of VFW National Home for Children.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Lyle E. “Eddie” Cherry, Jr. of De Queen, and Harley Richard and Vicki Cherry of De Queen, and an adopted daughter, Lou Ann Cherry of De Queen, seven grandchildren, Kimberly Kay and Tanya Cherry of Lincoln, Neb., Jody Cherry and Nick O’Dell of De Queen, Carrie Dinger of Dierks, LaShelle and Shelby Story also of De Queen, four great-grandsons, Joseph Shane Pickett, Harley Garrett Pickett and Wyatt James Pickett all of Lincoln, Neb, and Jaylon Austin Geierman of De Queen, two great-granddaughters, Briana Geierman of De Queen, and Adriana Alvarez of De Queen; two sisters, Jeanne Rechtenbaugh of Plymouth, Indiana, and Rose Cannon of Sebring, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Catherine Mahler of Plymouth, Indiana, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Goldie Cherry will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2007 in the Beacon Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 13th.
