Wayne E. Lucas
Former Alabaster City Councilman
Wayne E. Lucas, 59, of Alabaster died Jan. 19, 2004. He had retired from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department as captain after 24 years of service. He was a 33rd degree mason, paster master of Corinthian Lodge No. 462 and past grand master from 1990-91. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Temple and York Rite Temple. He was a former Alabaster City Councilman.
He is survived by his mother, Sarah Lucas Knowles of Wilsonville; two sons, Michael (Shellye) Lucas of Hoover and Jason (Betty) Lucas of Alabaster; his stepdaughter, Christy (Shane) Miskelly of Columbiana; grandchildren, Amanda Lucas, Brittney Lucas and Sarah Katherine Lucas; step-grandchildren, William and Benjamin Campbell and Wyatt Miskelly; brother, Jim Lucas; and sisters, Nancy Smith, Mary Hicks, Connie Dudley, Hattie Harless and Lou Lawley.
Service was Jan. 23 at Elliotsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Revs. Tommy Gillis and Mark Davenport presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel directing.
The family requests memorials be made to the Alabaster Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund.
Leslie Adam Merchant

Leslie Adam Merchant, 23, of Riverside, Ala., died Jan. 20, 2004.
She was survived by his mother, Pamela Sue Merchant of Pell City; his father, Roger Mack Merchant of Orange Beach, Ala.; two sons, Roger Aaron Merchant and Marc Alan Merchant, both of Pell City; a niece; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside service was Jan. 22 at Six Mile Cemetery, Joe Little presiding and Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
Dallis Wayne Norris
Shelby resident
Dallis Wayne Norris, 57, of Shelby died Jan. 22, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born in February 1946 in McCalla and was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Lynn.
He is survived by one son, Derek (Amanda) Dallis of Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother, Ethel Zula (Richard) Crabtree; sisters, Charlotte Norris and Joella Ireland; brothers, Neal, Harvey and Forest Caldwell, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
Service was Jan. 26 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, Bolton Brown Service directing.
William E. Shores Jr.
Columbiana resident
William E. Shores Jr., 46, of Columbiana died Jan. 11, 2004, after a long illness. He was born in Pomona, Calif., in February 1957.
He is survived by his parents, Williams E. and Joyce A. Shores; his brother, Lawrence W. Shores; his sister, Linda Collum, all of Columbiana; his nephews, Steven D. Houtz and Lonny E. Houtz; one niece, Staci Houtz; one great-nephew; and three great-nieces.
The funeral was directed by Charter Funeral Home in Calera.

Robert Steading, 75, of Columbiana died Jan. 16, 2004, at his home. He was born in 1928 in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Steading.
He is survived by his children, Gayle (H.O.) Rich, Mona Pilkington, Rose Mary Campisi, Judy Pilkington and Don Pilkington; a sister, Jenny (John Robert) McBride; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was Jan. 19 at Pinelawn Gardens, the Rev. Gary Jones presiding and Bolton Brown directing.
Vivian Lorraine Burrage

Vivian Lorraine Burrage, 90, of Calera died Jan. 13, 2004. She was a retired nurse from Shelby Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Eberhardt of Alabaster; her son, Peter Franklin Burrage of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Gladys Howard of LaGrange, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service was Jan. 16 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, the Rev. George Lee presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Rockco's directing.

Tammy L. Cline, 37, of Shelby died Jan. 11, 2004, at her home. She was born June 13, 1966, in Columbiana.
She is survived by her father, Marvin Horton of Columbiana; her brothers and sisters, Calvin Horton of Columbiana, Lori Wilcox of Shelby, Eddie Horton of Wilsonville, Eugene Horton of Shelby and Stacey Padgett of Columbiana; her grandmother, Lillie Mae Thomas of Columbiana; four nephews; and one niece.
Service was Jan. 14 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. David Hand presiding. Burial followed in Columbiana City Cemetery, Bolton Brown directing.
Shirley McIntosh Harding Glass

Shirley McIntosh Harding Glass, 65, of Calera died Jan. 16, 2004. She was born in Mississippi in September 1938, the daughter of the late Robert McIntosh and Gladys Hurst McIntosh. She was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Bennie Glass; her sons, Randy Langston of Montevallo and Robert Harding of Calera; her daughters, Lori Langston of Montevallo and Cynthia Langston of Jemison; her brothers, Charles R. McIntosh of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Ellis McIntosh of Birmingham; her sister, Eileene Porter of Lipscomb, Ala.; six grandchildren, Jason, Sunni, Nicholas, Tracy, Joshua and Matthew; four great-grandchildren, Scott, Christopher, Cleve and Katlin; other family members and friends.
Service was Jan. 18 at Charter Funeral Home, Brother Jim Lunsford presiding. Burial followed in Dargin Cemetery in Calera, Charter Funeral Home directing.

Lolane Smith Hanley, 59, of Sterrett died Jan. 17, 2004, at her home. She was born in Sampson, Ala., in September 1944.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Costabile of Alabaster and Christopher Hanley of Boynton Beach, Fla.; her mother, Edna Irene Smith; one brother, Thomas Smith of Birmingham; and one sister, Brenda Tutton of Bay Minette.

Martha Dian Herrera, 55, of Pinson died Jan. 18, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born in March 1948 in Leeds.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosie Katheryn Herrera of San Angelo, Texas, and Sharon Birky of Astoria, N.Y.; her mother, Madie Richardson of Sterrett; 10 grandchildren; five sisters, Faye, Cynthia, Drusilla and Melissa; and five brothers, Johnny, Bill, Terry, Gary and Steve.
Service was Jan. 20 at Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home chapel.
