Rosetta Chandler, 86, of Maylene died Jan. 29, 2004. She was born in Alabama in July 1917 to Steven and Betty Cook Holderfield. She was preceded in death by her sons, Kenneth W. Coleman and Billy Earl Coleman, and her daughter, Joyce Harland.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Franklin (Diane) Coleman of Mississippi, Steven Harrison Coleman of Birmingham and David Carroll Reeves of Columbiana; her daughters, Linda (Billy) Davis of Maylene, Mary McLeod of Trussville, Barbara (Will) Ethridge of Bessemer and Vera Coleman of Maylene; her sister, Eva Ritz of Ider; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Service was Feb. 2 at Maylene Chapel, the Rev. Richard Meads and sister Kathleen Johnson presiding. Burial followed in Ryan's Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.
Ruby Pair Gardner
Charter member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Ruby Pair Gardner, 89, of Westover died Jan. 30, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born in November 1914 in Winston County, Ala., She was the oldest charter member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Efford Gardner, and her son, Donald Gardner.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Bill) Smith; her son, Jimmy (Beverly) Gardner, all of Westover; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of friends and relatives.
Service was Feb. 2 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Westover, the Revs. Defford Isbell, Tom Minor and Kevin Brasher presiding. Burial followed in Union Methodist Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.
Vera Mae Horton
Mother of six
Vera Mae Horton, 85, of Hoover, formerly of Calera, died Jan. 24, 2004, in Hoover. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Joe Horton, and her son, Charles Wayne Horton.
She is survived by two daughters, Vera June Blackerby of Pelham and Jimmie Ruth Headley of Missouri; four sons, Morris Elred Horton of Clanton, Elton Lee Horton of Jemison, Harry Dean Horton of Hoover and Robert Larry Horton of Pelham; one brother, Lynn Garrett of Calera; 19 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Service was Jan. 28 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, Greg Headley and Bruce Headley presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
James Edward LeSueur
U.S. Army veteran
James Edward LeSueur, 58, of Spanish Fort, Ala., a native of Birmingham died Jan. 31, 2004, while hunting in McIntosh. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War and was the owner of A&B Air Conditioning in Spanish Fort, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard LeSueur and Eltra Blackerby.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Neese-LeSueur of Spanish Fort, Ala.; one daughter, Melissa LeSueur of Birmingham; two sons, James Haire of Spanish Fort, Ala., and Michael Haire of Naples, Fla.; one brother, Paul LeSueur of Alabaster; one sister, Mary LeSueur of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Service will be Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Gilmer's Funeral Home in Mobile, with burial following in Barancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.
Joseph Henry McGaughy
Firefighter for 40 years
Joseph Henry McGaughy, 69, of Montevallo died Feb. 2, 2004, in Montevallo. He worked as a firefighter, fire chief and assistant fire chief for the Montevallo Fire Department for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Click McGaughy of Montevallo; one son, Joseph Sidney McGoughy of Montevallo; and one brother, Luther Jackson "Jack" McGaughy of Montgomery.
Graveside service will be today, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. at Montevallo Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
Fay Marie Sanders
Alabaster resident
Fay Marie Sanders, 76, of Alabaster died Jan. 27, 2004, in Alabaster. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Calera. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Sanders.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann (Leon) Curry of Calera, Joyce (Joe) Massey of Alabaster and Carolyn (George) Dawson of Montevallo; six sons, Ray (Jean) Sanders of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jerry Sanders of Jemison, Clayton (Jeannie) Sanders of Alabaster, Bobby Sanders of Munford, Johnny Mack Sanders of Jemison and Jackie (Ann) Sanders of Calera; one brother, William "Mutt" Elliott of Double Oak Mountain; two sisters, Claudie Gross and Lorene Headley, both of Alabaster; 35 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Service was Jan. 30 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, Wayne Crowson presiding. Burial was in Moore's Cemetery, Rockco's directing.
William E. Shores Jr.
Columbiana resident
William E. Shores Jr., 46, of Columbiana died Jan. 11, 2004, after a long illness. He was born in Pomona, Calif., in February 1957.
He is survived by his parents, Williams E. and Joyce A. Shores of Columbiana; his brother, Lawrence W. Shores of Columbiana; his sister, Linda Collum of Columbiana; two nephews, Steven D. Houtz and Lonny E. Houtz; one niece, Staci Houtz; one great-nephew; and three great-nieces.
Services were directed by Charter Funeral Home in Calera.

Billy Joe Walker, 70, of Hayden died Jan. 27, 2004, in Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Walker.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Magdaline Walker of Hayden; one daughter, Janet (Ed) Garlinger of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Barry (Iris) Walker of Vinemont and Bruce (Paula) Walker of Montevallo; one brother, James Walker of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Ruth (Finnus) Kirby of Little Rock, Ark.; and 10 grandchildren.
Service was Jan. 29 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, pastor Fred Rivers presiding. Burial followed in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale, Hanceville Funeral Home directing.

Douglas Glenn Walker, 37, of Columbus, Ohio, died Jan. 24, 2004, in Hayden, Ala. He was born in August 1966 to Billy Joe Walker and Martha Magdaline Earnheart Walker.
He is survived by his parents, Billy and Marty Walker of Hayden; one sister, Janet (Ed) Garlinger; two brothers, Barry (Iris) Walker of Vinemont and Bruce (Paula) Walker of Montevallo; and 10 nieces and nephews, Candice Leigh Walker, Audrey Garlinger, Daniel Garlinger, Ellen Walker, Lee Walker, Benjamin Wright, Nicholas Wright, Michal Marie Walker, Mark Walker and Kelsey Walker.
Service was Jan. 28 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, pastor Fred Rivers presiding. Burial followed in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale, Hanceville Funeral Home directing.
Buster "Buck" Whitfield

Buster "Buck" Whitfield, 67, of Clanton died Feb. 1, 2004, He was employed as a structural iron worker.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean "Jeanie" Whitfield of Clanton; one daughter, Michelle Whitfield Norton of Clanton; one son, Matt Whitfield of Clanton; two grandsons, Jesse Douglas Norton and William Reese Whitfield, both of Clanton; one granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Norton of Clanton; and four sisters, Olene Parker of Chelsea, Betty Dado of Fresno, Calif., Bebe Simmons of Pleasant Grove and Judy Lee of Wilsonville.
Graveside service was Feb. 3 at Martin Memorial Cemetery, the Rev. Randy Reid presiding and Martin Funeral Home directing.
