Enjoyed family and fishing
Jerline Ayers Barrett, 65, of Clanton died April 6, 2003, at her residence.
She was born in Doyline, La., on Aug. 21, 1937, the daughter of Harvey Ayers and Delia Ward Ayers.
Her greatest enjoyments were her family and fishing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Barrett is survived by her husband, Vernon Hoyt Barrett; two sons, James Lloyd Barrett of Jacksonville, Fla. and Timothy Barrett of Jemison; six sisters; and four grandchildren.
The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Charter Funeral Home directed the service.
DELTON HOWARD DAVIS

Delton Howard Davis, 39, of Jemison died April 8, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born in Alabama in 1963.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Irene Davis; his daughter, Debra May Davis; two stepchildren, James and Nora Moyers, all of Jemison; his father, Howard Davis of Calera; his mother, Sara Davis of Ashland; and his brother, Danny Davis of Ashland.
Service was April 5 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Gary Bean presiding. Burial followed in Foster Cemetery, Bolton Brown directing.
NORRIS LEE "RED" HEADLEY
World War II veteran
Norris Lee "Red" Headley, 77, of Bessemer died April 12, 2003, in Fairfield. He had retired after 45 years with U.S. Steel. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dura Headley of Bessemer; one daughter, Sheila (Don) Eiland of Bessemer; one son, Danny (Sandi) Headley of Thorsby; one sister, Gracie Hutchison of Pelham; one brother, J.C. Headley of Brantleyville; two granddaughters, Ann-Marie Morris and Dannielle Lee Headley; and four grandsons, Taylor, Clint, Mitchell and Brady Headley.
Graveside service was April 15 at Pelham Cemetery, James Blair presiding and Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
TOMMY DALE HORTON

Tommy Dale Horton, 24, of Shelby died April 5, 2003.
He was born Feb. 19, 1979, in Sylacauga.
Horton is survived by his mother, Helen (Johnny) Davis of Shelby; his father, Billy (Barbara) Horton of Columbiana; one brother, Joseph (Angela) Horton of Wilsonville; two nephews, Clint and Austin Horton; his grandfather, Leo Caldwell; one uncle, Donald Caldwell; two stepsisters, Chanda Windsor and Christy Ray, both of Shelby; and one stepbrother, Jonathan Ray of Shelby.
Service was April 10 at Bolton-Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Wade Horton presiding. Burial followed in Old Shelby Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.
AVERY CALVIN LODGE JR.
Uncle of three
Avery Calvin Lodge Jr., 18, of Shelby died April 5, 2003, in Jemison. He was born in Chilton County.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly C. Morris of Shelby; his father, Avery Calvin Lodge Sr. of Calera; his sisters, Cansas Shea of Jemison and April Ann Lodge of Calera; two nephews, Zack and Hunter Lodge; and a niece, Asia Flores.
Service was April 10 at Martin Chapel in Clanton, the Rev. Steve Morris presiding and Martin Funeral Home directing.

Donald McCarter, 47, of Alabaster died April 3, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hosey McCarter; six children; three grandchildren; and other relatives.
Service was April 9 at Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church with burial following in Liberty Cemetery, The Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.
JOHN WESLEY MINDLER JR.
Clanton resident
John Wesley Mindler Jr., 71, of Clanton died April 8, 2003, at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Alabama in March 1932 to John Wesley Mindler Sr. and Cora Annie Lowery Mindler. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Skinner Mindler; his father, John Wesley Mindler Sr.; his mother, Cora Annie Lowery Mindler; his brother, Oran Lamar Mindler; and his sister, Marie Glidwell.
He is survived by his sons, Charles L. Mindler, John W. Mindler and Thomas J. Mindler; his daughters, Charlene Tremor, Cora Mindler, Rhonda White, Rebecca Higgins and Mary K. Gordon; his brother, Robert L. Mindler; his sister, Mary A. Sanders; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Service was April 11 at Charter Funeral Home, the Rev. Mahlon Felkin presiding. Burial followed in Dargin Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.
RUBY SOUTHERN RICH
Vincent resident
Ruby Southern Rich, 84, of Vincent died April 10, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Vincent and a longtime, active member of the First Baptist Church of Vincent. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hulen Southern and O.D. Southern; and one sister, Velma Simons.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Lane (Marie Westfaul) Rich of Hurley, Miss.; one granddaughter, Ashley Rich (Tommy) Huff of Mobile; three brothers, Gordon Southern of Chula Vista, Calif., Solon Southern of Vincent and Edward Southern of Pell City; and five sisters, Hassis Sims, Eva Smith, Dorothy Whitten, Edna Fleming, all of Vincent, and Thelma Gilliland of Tuscaloosa.
Service was April 13 at Kilgroe Chapel, the Revs. Lindy Martin and Lon Cullen presiding. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Vincent, Kilgroe Chapel directing. Honorary pallbearers were Hoyt Sims, Corley Gilliland, Donnie Gilliland, Kenny Simons, Tommy Smith and Mark Southern. Pallbearers were Jimmy McCombs, Greg Gilliland, Mike Southern, Leonard Southern, Michael Fleming and Kenneth Whitten.

Robert Smith Sr., 78, of Brierfield died April 4, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Louise Smith; his mother, Lillian Hall; seven sons; four daughters; and other relatives.
Service was April 12 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Wilton with burial following in Smith Cemetery in Brierfield, The Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Montevallo directing.
WILLIE D. VERNON

Willie D. Vernon, 75, of Shelby died April 13, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born there in 1928 and attended Shelby Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cassie Vernon, and a son, Bobby Lee Vernon.
She is survived by her children, Evelyn (Bobby) Jones, Diane (Thomas) Merrell and Juanita (Stanley) Merritt, all of Shelby, Patricia (John) Pinon of Alabaster, Milton Edward (Yvonne) Vernon of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jeffery (Christy) Vernon of Shelby; brothers, Richard Pearson, Buddy Pearson, George Pearson and Billy Pearson, all of Shelby; sisters, Carol Locarno, Doris Knapp and Mary Vanderleest, all of Shelby; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be today, April 16 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Johnny Bryant presiding. Burial will follow in New Shelby Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
