Britt Branville Gibson, 45, of Alabaster died Dec. 26, 2002. He was born in Alabama in 1957 to Bennet Gibson and Ruth Britt Gibson. He was a geologist and an Atlanta Braves fan.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Gibson of West Virginia; his uncle, Vincent Gibson of New Orleans, La.; his cousin, Robert Pleasants of Arkansas; and many friends.

Joshua Wayne Harris, 17, of Shelby County died Dec. 23, 2002. He was a student at Thompson High School.
He is survived by his parents, Darrell and Carol Harris; two brothers, T.J. Harris and Jeremy Harris; one sister, Lily Harris; his grandparents, Larry and Yvonne Harris of Shelby County and Annette and Jerry Jenkins of Hoover; his great-grandmother, Louise Harris of Shelby County; five aunts and uncles, Penny and Chris Johnson, Tommie and Troy Davis, David and Karen Jenkins and Mike and Laura Farrell, all of Shelby County, and Keith Jenkins of Hoover; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Service was Dec. 26 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel.
LARRY G. JONES
Vincent High School graduate
Larry G. Jones, 67, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Dec. 23, 2002, in Pensacola, Fla. He was of the Catholic faith and an avid golfer. He grew up in Vincent and graduated from Vincent High School. He worked for Northrop Aircraft overseas after he moved to Fort Walton in 1983. He was a retired Air Force veteran having served for 25 years and worked for Civil Service until 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann; two daughters, Karen (Kenneth) McGill of West Virginia and Kristen (Alan) Stuart of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, Kelly, Laura, Emily and Eryn (Tori) McGill and Ashley, Tess and Emma Stuart; and one brother, Michael Jones of Sherman, Texas.
Service was Dec. 27 at Emerald Coast Funeral Home in Fort Walton Beach, Father James E. Ludwikoski presiding. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Columbiana on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m., Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

Mary Lee Mahaffey, 90, of Montevallo died Dec. 24, 2002, in Alabaster. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Montevallo.
She is survived by one sister, Lucille (Bryce) Alsup of Huntsville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was Dec. 28 at Montevallo City Cemetery, Brother Buddy Freeman and Mike Ratliff presiding and Rockco's Funeral Home directing.
Oliver Millender Sr.
Retired from Alabama Power Company
Oliver Millender Sr., 85, of Wilsonville died Dec. 27, 2002. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wilsonville, where he served on the Board of Deacons and as church treasurer for 40 years. He was a member of the Energizer Club of Alabama Power Company and the Saint James Masonic Lodge No. 130. He had retired from Alabama Power.
He is survived by his children, Oliver (Rosa) Millender Jr., James Earl (Ethel) Millender, Glenn H. Millender, Ronald (Loretta) Millender, Jessie Millender and Vivian Millender Simon; his brothers, Howard (Gladys) Millender, Ellis (Linda) Millender and Edward Millender; his sister, Billie Jo Bruce; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service was Dec. 31 at the Wilsonville First Baptist Church, pastor Troy Holley presiding with burial following in Wilsonville Community Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home directing.

Amanda Marie Edmondson (Smith) Rutledge, 94, of Birmingham died Dec. 27, 2002. She was a longtime member of the Pike Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Geraldine) Lamar Smith of Helena; two daughters, Julie Elizabeth Lewis of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Helen Marie Carlin of Birmingham; three granddaughters, Cynthia (Larry) Marie Killingsworth, Carol Ann (Johnny) Foster and LeAnn Marie (Louis) Nequette; four grandsons, John Randal (Donna) Lewis, George Robert (Lisa) Lewis, Gary Scott (Christi) Lewis and Paul Bryant Carlin; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Harry and Lydia Purnell and son, Jody.
Graveside service was Dec. 30 at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Dr. Toxey Dorsett presiding and Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Ethel Smiley, 74, of Birmingham died Dec. 28, 2002. She was a member of New Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Smiley Sunday; her best friend, Willie B. Smith; and several neices, nephews and friends.

Sara I. Spradlin, 76, of Sterrett died Dec. 21, 2002.
She is survived by her children, Charlotte Howard of Sterrett, Fay Grimes of Westover, Sue Hannah of Vandiver, Bessie Kromer of Childersburg, Wayne Spradlin of Pell City and Wade Spradlin of Westover; one sister, Ruby Nell Oglesby of Bessemer; two brothers, Donald and Herschel Gardner of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 34 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Service was Dec. 24 at Brashers Chapel, the Revs. Mike Widman and Jerome Ganey presiding. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

Christina Joy and Elena Hope Tucker, 2 months old, of Birmingham died Dec. 21, 2002.
They were preceded in death by their grandmother, Carman Lydia Gonzalez.
They are survived by their parents, Jason and Susie Tucker of Birmingham; their grandparents, Dr. Jose Gonzalez of Cullman, Albert R. Tucker of Sweetwater and Sheila S. Tucker of Sweetwater; and two sisters, Carman Maria Tucker of Birmingham and Anna Grace Tucker of Birmingham.
Service was Dec. 23 at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Robert K. Flayhart presiding. Burial followed at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
MERLE EUGENE UPTON

Merle Eugene Upton, 70, of South Burlington, Vt., died Dec. 27, 2002. He was born in Walker County, Ala., in June 1932.
He is survived by his wife, Jimmie Nell Upton of South Burlington, Vt.; four children, Pamela Jean Weber of South Burlington, Vt., Crystal Marie Davis of Canton, Ga., Merle Eugene Upton Jr. and Michael Eugene Upton, both of Columbiana; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson, Dave Upton of Birmingham.
