Leo Wilbur Morrell, 77, of Childersburg died Aug. 3, 2002. He was born March 12, 1935 in Harpersville.
He is survived by his sister, Clara Kelley of Harpersville ; son, Tommy Morrell of Harpersville; and nieces and nephews, Wilson (Renee) Morrell, Michael (Jamie) Abernathy, Gloria (Jerry) Hawk and Sandra Mann.
Funeral was Aug. 6 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel. Burial followed in the Harpersville Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

Pamela Manning Pope, 38, of Alabaster died July 26, 2002.
She was born Aug. 27, 1964, the daughter of Waly King Manning and Martha Ann James Manning. She graduated from McAdory High School, completed two years of college and was employed by Wal-Mart in Calera.
She is survived by her son, Brian Degeter of Vidor, Texas; daughter, Kristan Pope of Alabaster; grandmother, Elenor James of Helena; godmother, Frances Coleman of Bessemer; sisters, Susan Manning Todd of Helena and Debbie Manning Lloyd of Wetumpka; aunt, Linda Christian (Bob) of Huntsville; nieces, Leigh Ann Strahan (Russell) and Stephanie Adare Smith (James); nephew, Shannon Todd (Kerri), all of Helena; and other family and friends.
Funeral was Aug. 1 at the Beeswax Recreation Center near Columbiana, Charter Funeral Home directing.

Billy Joe Smith, 65, of Bessemer died July 30, 2002. He was retired from Pullman Standard.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Eddings (Bill) of Bessemer and Bonnie Smith White (Michael) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Amanda Anderson, Daniel Flurry, Amber Eddings, Stephanie England and Stephen Eddings; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Paige Anderson.
Graveside services were Aug. 2 at Macedonia Cemetery in Pea Ridge with the Rev. Roger Hamaker presiding, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

Maryann Walters, 54, of Sterrett died Aug. 3, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Walters; daughter, Julie Russell (Dave) of Harpersville; grandchildren, David, Lisa and Amy Russell, all of Harpersville; brothers, Richard Gate and Charlie Gate, both of Illinois; and sister, Sue Lowe of Illinois.
Funeral was Aug. 6 at Southern Heritage Chapel. Southern Heritage directed.
KATHLEEN ALEXANDER BRIDGES
Lifetime resident of Montevallo
Kathleen Alexander Bridges, 90, of Montevallo died Dec. 25, 2002, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. She was born in Calera in 1911. She was a member of Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Milton L. Bridges Sr.
She is survived by one son, Milton L. Bridges Jr. of Hartselle; three daughters, Mavis Stephens of Decatur, Norma Connell of Palmer, Alaska, and Sharon Crownover of Asheville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service was Dec. 28 at Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Revs. Scott Fowler and Chuck Hood presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Karlton Stephens, Jeremy Stephens, Brian Oakes, Bobby Ingram, Jack Ingram and Jeff Patterson.

William A. Brown Jr., 57, of Pelham died Dec. 27, 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Dana Brown McGuire of South Carolina and Leslie Brown Colvert of Hoover; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Joyce Hester of Hoover and Stella Culver of Texas.
Service was Dec. 31 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with burial following in Wooten's Chapel, Southern Heritage directing.

Jewel Kelley Burke, 84, of Geraldine died Dec. 23, 2002.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette (Larry) Lumpkin of Cullman; her son, Ralph W. (Earlene) Burke of Montevallo; her sister, Doris Kelley of Geraldine; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Jewel Dean Carter, 78, of Brierfield died Dec. 23, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Carter of Brierfield; two sons, Roy Glass of Deatsville and Ronnie Carter of McAdory; four sisters, Dorothy Moore of Alabaster, Lillian Draper of Montevallo, Barbara Dunaway of Pelham and Doris Stewart of Birmingham; two brothers, Roy Vernon of Alabaster and Carl Vernon of Birmingham; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was Dec. 27 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, the Rev. Jimmy Carter presiding. Burial followed at Elliotsville Cemetery in Alabaster.

James "Jimmy" W. Dawson, 55, of Alabaster died Dec. 24, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mamie Dawson, and his brother, Leo Dawson.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret C. Dawson of Alabaster; one daughter, Mary Rose Dawson; two sisters, Mary Helen Johnson of Opelika and Linda Carter of Birmingham; and a host of neices, nephews and friends.
Service was Dec. 27 in Greenville with burial following in Sunrise Cemetery in Greenville, Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.
Charlotte Black Ekey
Grandmother of two
Charlotte Black Ekey died Dec. 28, 2002. She was retired from the Birmingham City Board of Education and a member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Ekey; her brother, George P. Black; and her sister, Mae Rushing.
She is survived by her son, William (Pam) A. Ekey of Rome, Ga.; granddaughter, Laurel (Squire) Gambill of Paris, Ky.; one grandson, Brandon (Kristen) Ekey of Rome, Ga.; and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Black.
Graveside service was Dec. 31 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, the Rev. William Duke presiding and Ridout's Southern Heritage directing.
