JIMMIE EARL VICKERY

Born in Wilsonville

Jimmie Earl Vickery, 49, of Calera died in October 2002. He was born in 1953 in Wilsonville.

He is survived by his four sisters, Clara V. Bell of Inverness, Geraldine V. Holmes, Robbie V. Falkner and Norma V. Bryan, all of Wilsonville; and two brothers, Eddie Vickery and Donald A. Vickery of Birmingham.

Graveside service was Oct. 13 at Williams Cemetery, Brother Wayne Horton presiding and Bolton-Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

WILLIAM HOWARD WHITAKER SR.

Charter member of Columbiana Kiwanis Club

William Howard Whitaker Sr., 98, of Birmingham died Oct. 11, 2002. He was born Oct. 30, 1908, in Rock Mills, Ala., and was a longtime resident of Columbiana, where he worked for the Columbiana Drug Company.

During World War II, he was a technical sergeant in the United States Army and served as a pharmacist in a Station Hospital in the Pacific. After returning, he moved to Childersburg, where he joined the newly formed First National Bank of Childersburg as cashier. He retired from the bank in 1973 as president but continued to serve as a director until 1994.

He was a member and served on the Board of Trustees of both the Columbiana United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Childersburg. He received the first Outstanding Service Award presented by the Childersburg Chamber of Commerce. This annual award is now known as the Howard Whitaker Award for Outstanding Service in the Community. He was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Columbiana and a member of the Exchange Club of Childersburg, where he served as president and a director.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Nell Whitaker of Birmingham; his son, William Howard Whitaker Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Birmingham; grandchildren, Karen Leigh Whitaker of Atlanta, Ga., William Darrah Whitaker and wife, Maria of Burbank, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Troy Whitaker of Burbank, Calif.

Service was Oct. 15 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Graveside service followed in the Lloyd Cole Memorial Cemetery in Columbiana, Ridout's Valley Chapel directing.

The family requests memorials be made to Columbiana United Methodist Church, 200 N. Main Street, Columbiana, AL 35051.

DEAN COBB WHITNER

Calera resident

Dean Cobb Whitner, 70, of Calera died Oct. 8, 2002. He was born Oct. 4, 1932 in Saginaw.

He is survived by three children, Kari Whitner of Montevallo, James Freddy Whitner of Texas and Roy Andrew Whitner of Montevallo; and two grandchildren, Roy Dean Whitner and Kari Whitner Jr.

Service was Oct. 10 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, Brother Paul Lane presiding. Burial followed in Dargin Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

WILLIAM WILSON

Father of two

William Wilson, 50, of Birmingham died Oct. 4, 2002.

He is survived by two sons, William Tate and Marcus Tate; and other relatives. Service was Oct. 12 at noon at Grace Covenant Worship Center in Birmingham with burial following in Carver Memorial Cemetery, The Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.

BURRELL BRANNON

Former resident of Alabaster

Burrell Brannon, 93, of Jefferson City, Tenn., died Dec. 17, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Winnsboro, S.C., and lived several years in Alabaster. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ella Brannon; his wife, Mable Hudson Brannon; and his sister, Ruby Thornton.

He is survived by his daughter, Melba (Mac) Lambert of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Joan (Gary) Lambert Rundles of Livingston, Paul (Theresa) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Burl (Amie) of Jefferson City; seven great-grandchildren, Richard, Meghan and Alley Rundles and Carter, Madison Rae, Hank and Neal Lambert; two sisters, Bernice McDonald of Winnsboro, S.C., and Doris Spires of Columbiana; a special cousin, Fred Phillips of Alabaster; several nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends.

Graveside service was Dec. 20 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Winnsboro, S.C., Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, Tenn., directing.

WILLIAM "BILL" CLINKSCALE

Member of Beulah Baptist in Sterrett

William "Bill" Clinkscale, 73, of Calcis, Ala., died Dec. 13, 2002. He was a member of the IBEW Local Union No. 136. He attended Beulah Baptist Church in Sterrett. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Navy, and a member of the American Legion. He was also an avid antique dealer and collector.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel A. Clinkscales of Calcis; eight children, Mike (Cathy) Clinkscale of Dallas, Texas, Wanda (Jimmy) Fischer of Lake Jackson, Texas, René (Roger) Bass of Birmingham, Mark (Belinda) Clinkscale of Mobile, Desiree (Bill) Spies of Collierville, Tenn., Cindajo (Glenn) Shields of Columbiana, Carol (Dave) Lincoln of Smyrna, Ga., and Nadia (Chris) Wilder of Chelsea; and 10 grandchildren.

Service was Dec. 18 at Beulah Baptist Church in Sterrett, the Rev. Russell Gooden presiding. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell directing.

HELEN WILLIAMS GRAY

Chelsea resident

Helen Williams Gray, 71, of Chelsea and formerly of Dodge County, died Dec. 10, 2002, in Henry Medical Center in McDonough.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Parsons of Chelsea and Vicki Garner of Chouteau, Okla.; two sisters, Lula Bell Winans of Chauncey and Sara Jo Deason of McDonough, Ga.; one brother, John B. Williams of Eastman, Ga.; four grandchildren, Heather Parsons, Erin Heathcock, Matthew Heathcock and Luke Heathcock; and four great-grandchildren.

Service was Dec. 12 in Southerland Funeral Chapel in Eastman, Ga., the Rev. Jack Sheffield presiding. Burial followed in Sweet Home Cemetery, Southerland directing.

Serving as pallbearers were Danny Winans, David Winans, Vince Winans, Eddie Williams, Rick Wynn, Randy Wynn and Jeff McCranie.

MICHAEL JAMES GREEN

Uncle of 12

Michael James Green, 40, of Jemison died Dec. 8, 2002. He was born in Bessemer in 1962.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Blaszynski; his father, James L. Green; his mother and stepfather, Doris and Jimmy Brown; his sisters, Karen Joyner, Robbie Green and Lisa Clifford; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was Dec. 11 at Old Chapel Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

ARNELL MORRIS

Wilsonville resident

Arnell Morris, 75, of Wilsonville died Dec. 16, 2002. She was born in April 1927 in Berry, Ala.

She is survived by her husband, James S. Norris; two sons, Mack Morris of Columbiana and Gary Morris of Fourmile; three sisters, Brenda, Ruby and Elnora; one brother, Arnold; six grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service was Dec. 18 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Gary Jones presiding. Burial followed in Pinelawn Gardens, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

DIANE OAKES

Vandiver resident

Diane Oakes, 52, of Vandiver died Dec. 16, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil J. Oakes; one son, Joseph Shannon Oakes of Vandiver; her mother, Ruby J. Isbell of Vandiver; seven sisters, Jeannie Partridge, Faye Johns, Sharon Sweezey, Anita Overton and Brenda Howard, all of Vandiver, Alice Novak of Moody and Patricia Wright of Levittown, Pa.; her stepmother, Mildred Davis of Fairless Hills, Pa.; and four brothers, Gene Davis of Huntingdon, Pa., Lonnie Davis of Richboro, Pa., Paul Davis of Levittown, Pa., and Robert Davis of Trenton, N.J.

Service was Dec. 18 at the Vandiver Church of God with burial following at Union Hill Cemetery.
