WILLIAM CHAD UNDERWOOD

University of Montevallo student

William Chad Underwood, 19, of Alabaster died July 18, 2002.

He was born July 20, 1982, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Alabaster and a visitor at Dogwood Baptist Church. He was a 2000 graduate of Thompson High School and a sophomore at the University of Montevallo in pre-engineering studies.

He is survived by his parents, William David and Michelle Lea Perkins Underwood; brother, Grant Underwood, all of Alabaster; grandparents, Grant and Elizabeth Underwood of Montevallo, Johnny Mayhall of Montevallo and Betty Peoples of Alabaster; aunts and uncles, John and Christy Mayhall of Maylene, Frank and Marlayna Dean of Tomball, Texas, Joe and Julie Mayhall of Montevallo, Tommy and Glenda Underwood of Hoover, Wayne and Sue Underwood of Alabaster, Mike and Zandra Underwood of Vandiver and Thomas and Karen Scott of Jemison.

Service was July 22 at the First Baptist Church in Alabaster, Dr. Wayne Crumpton presiding and Charter Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in his memory to the William Chad Underwood Memorial Fund at the NBC Bank in Pelham, 553-4750.

MAYBELL WILKS

Columbiana resident for 22 years

Maybell Wilks, 92, of Columbiana died Monday, July 15, 2002, in Alabaster. She resided in Columbiana for the past 22 years, having come from Jacksonville, Fla. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Indian Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Albert Wilks of Callahan, Fla.; six daughters, Betty Lee of Columbiana, Nellie Chester of Sonia, Ga., Laver Baglio of Pensacola, Fla., Myrtie Miller of Blackshear, Ga., Ruby Wagner of Seabrook, Texas, and Murl Gilner of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Johnnie Jackson of Pensacola, Fla., and Mylthie Greggs of Andalusia; 38 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Service was July 18 at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, the Revs. Phillip Rabon and Tim Owen presiding. Burial followed in Piney Grove Cemetery, Brown Funeral Home directing.

FLORENCE ELIZABETH MOONEY BRAMER

Helena resident

Florence Elizabeth Mooney Bramer, 90, of Helena, a native of Louisville, Ky., died Oct. 9, 2002. She was born in Kentucky in 1912, the daughter of John Edward Mooney and Lillian Elizabeth Grampp Mooney. She was a bookkeeper/secretary for the Louisville Board of Education and taught ceramics for 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard George Bramer; her daughter, Lillian Rose Roan; her son-in-law, Robert H. Roan Jr.; two grandchildren, Vicki L (Rod) Faulk and Robert L. (Rose Marie) Roan; eight great-grandchildren, Virginia Faulk, Aaron Roan, Rick Faulk, Joshua Faulk, Abigail Faulk, Brandon Roan, Alison Roan and Anna Marie Roan.

Service is Oct. 11 at Charter Funeral Home, the Rev. Wayne Crumpton, the Rev. Bill Johnson and the Rev. Jeff Lowman presiding.

CLARA DYKES KEY CARDWELL

Enon Baptist Church member

Clara Dykes Key Cardwell, 93, of Calera died Oct. 14, 2002, at a nursing home in Fairfield. She was a homemaker and a member of Enon Baptist Church in Montevallo. She was preceded in death by husbands, Lane Key and James Cardwell; one daughter, Dorothy Key; and several sisters and brothers.

She is survived by daughter, Wylodean Key Waldrop and husband, T.J., of Wilsonville; grandson, Jud Waldrop and wife, Donna, of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; granddaughter, Vickie Waldrop White and husband, Reed, of Shelby; six great-grandchildren, Magan, Seth and Lucas Waldrop of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Dalton, Mandy and Bo White of Shelby; one brother, Roy Dykes of Gardendale; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be Oct. 16 at Enon Baptist Church, Brother Jud Waldrop presiding. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

LT. COL. THOMAS MICHAEL MCCUSKER

Vietnam veteran

Lt. Col. Thomas Michael McCusker of Birmingham died Oct. 5, 2002, after a battle with cancer.

As a Marine, he served with 3rd Force Recon, 3rd Marines in Vietnam in 1967. He received a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts. He was one of the original members of the Force Recon Association. He also served as commander of the American Legion Post 134 in Birmingham.

He served as military intelligence officer and was active in the Alabama National Guard and the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Niceville, Fla. He was also a member of St. Mary Magdalene Christian Catholic Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Terranella McCusker, USMC, and his father, GySgt. Robert Paul McCusker, USMC.

He is survived by his wife, Marlane McCusker of Birmingham; one son, Jason McCusker of Acworth, Ga.; one sister, Nancy Williams of Destin, Fla.; one nephew, Michael Williams of Destin, Fla.; two stepchildren, Tamara Mchaffey and Brice Pitts of Birmingham; and one stepbrother, Johnny Flanders and his wife, JoAnn, of Marietta, Ga.

Service was at the American Legion Post 134 in Homewood on Oct. 11, Father Liam Sullivan presiding. Burial will follow at a later date at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Charter Funeral Home directing.

BETTY JO MULLINS

Member of Montevallo Church of Christ

Bettye Jo Mullins, 68, of Calera died Oct. 7, 2002, in Birmingham. She was a member of the Montevallo Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley C. Mullins of Calera; one daughter, Lisa Dunn of Calera; one son, James Michael Mullins of Clanton; one brother, Raymond Blackwood of Michigan; three grandchildren, Jared Dunn, Brandon Mullins and Jeremy Mullins; and one great-grandchild, Raven Mullins.

Service was Oct. 11 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel, Brother Manliff Barnes presiding. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

JAMES SWAIN

Saginaw resident

James Swain, 66, of Saginaw died Oct. 5, 2002.

He is survived by two daughters, Margie Ward of Clanton and Alicia Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Alberta Hill, Frances Thomas, Elizabeth Swain and Mattie Taylor; three brothers, Charlie Swain, Samuel Swain and George Washington; and other relatives.

Service was Oct. 12 at Grace Full Baptist Church with burial following in Galilee Cemetery, The Good Shepherd Funeral Home directing.

JAMES G. THOMASTON JR.

Supporter of Linda Nolen Learning Center

James G. Thomason Jr., 61, of Maylene died Oct. 11, 2002. He was a member of the Alabaster First United Methodist Church. He was lifetime member of Civitan International and Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a strong supporter of the Linda Nolen Learning Center. He had retired from BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. after 37 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Grafton Thomason.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Thomason of Maylene; three sons, Geoff (Valerie) Thomason of Montgomery, Kevin Thomason of Provo, Utah, Andy (Melissa) Thomason of Helena and Greg Pearson (Caitlin) Thomason of Chelsea; two grandchildren, Evan and Phoebe; his mother, Margie Thomason of Cleveland; one brother, Michael Thomason of Cleveland; two sisters, Elaine Hawkins and Jackie Swartz, both of Birmingham; and a host of uncles, aunts, neices, nephews and friends.

Service was Oct. 15 at the Southern Heritage Chapel, Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

ROBERT E. TREADWELL

Lifelong Vincent resident

Robert E. Treadwell, 80, of Vincent died Oct. 7, 2002, at his residence.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Vincent Revival Center. He was also a member of Local 312 - Operating Engineers and lived in Vincent his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, Gracie Inez Treadwell; two daughters, Robbie Treadwell Johnson of Jasper, Tenn., and Deborah Treadwell Coffey of Vincent; one sister, Virginia Beach of Moody; four grandchildren, James Vick of Vincent, Adam Wills of Sterrett, Jamie Hardin of Sterrett and Sonia Griffin of Chelsea; three great-grandchildren, Blake and Shelby Hardin of Sterrett and Sydney Griffin of Chelsea; and one nephew, Butch Beach Jr. of Moody.

Service was Oct. 9 at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel, Brother J.R. Carmichael, Brother Greg Cooper and Brother Danny Miller presiding. Burial followed at the Vincent Revival Center Cemetery, Curtis and Son Funeral Home directing.
