Clarence William McCloud Jr., 54, of Trussville, died May 31, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth McCloud, and his son, Jeffrey McCloud.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Boyle of Maylene; brother, Teddy McCloud of Maplesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was June 3 at Williams Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Brasher presiding, Bolton Brown Service directing.

CLYDE MOONEY

Born in Chelsea

Clyde Mooney, 91, of Ocala, Fla., died May 26, 2002. He was born in Chelsea but had lived in Ocala since 1953. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ocala and the Lake City Elks Lodge and was a retired agent of Met Life Insurance.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mooney.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Yancey of Ocala; sons, Robert Powell Mooney of St. Augustine and Jerry Wayne Mooney of St. Simons Island, Ga.; sister, Lorene Shirley of Bessember; brother, Calvin Mooney of Columbiana; seven grandchildren; 12 great-granchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

SHERMAN THOMAS RICH

Jemison resident

Sherman Thomas Rich, 59, of Jemison died May 30, 2002. He was born Aug. 15, 1942, and was employed as an industrial painter.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda Rich; son, Sherman J. Rich; daughters, Anita Jackson, Darla Herron and Colene Rich, all of Calera; and 11 grandchildren.

JOHN SHERMAN ROOP JR.

Randolph resident

John Sherman Roop Jr., 41, of Randolph died May 31, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Roop of Brierfield; daughters, Brandy Marie Roop and Jessica Lanell Roop, both of Brierfield; sons, John Wesley Roop of Brierfield and Jonithon Caleb Roop of Jemison; mother, Marie Roop of Randolph; father, John Sherman Roop Sr. of South Carolina; sisters, Wanda Karen Morrow of Oklahoma, Pamela Denise Fulgham of Randolph and Candace Elaine Lazar of Randolph; brothers, Scotty Dwayne Roop and Donald Ray Roop, both of Jemison; and two grandchildren.

Graveside service was June 3 at Old Union Cemetery in Randolph, Elton Keith officiating, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

CLARICE HARPER ALLEN

Montevallo resident

Clarice Harper Allen, 79, of Montevallo died June 3, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Orville T. Allen; sons, Reggie Allen (Judy) of Shelby County and Mike Allen (Sylvia) of Montevallo; sisters, Frances Butler and Ruby Nell Kendrick, both of Alabaster, and Ruth Acton of Decatur; brothers, Tom Harper of Alabaster and Dewey Harper of New Castle, Del.; grandchildren Katie Allen, Leigh Ann Allen, Kim Tortorice (Pat), Kristi Dowdy (Ken) and Kerri Turner (Richard); and great-grandchildren, Brandon Tortorice, Carson Tortorice, Alden Dowdy and Graham Turner.

Funeral was June 6 at Elliotsville Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Tom Hammett presiding. Burial followed at Elliotsville Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

HELEN PAULINE CHAMPION

Westover resident

Helen Pauline Champion, 79, of Westover died June 7, 2002. She was born Sept. 8, 1922 in Pell City.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Churchwell of Shelby and Janice Spradline of Westover; son, Dennis Champion of Westover; brother, Billy Bradshaw of Calera; sisters, Virginia Hurst of Talladega and Elsie Black of Indiana; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was June 9 at Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Bro. T.W. Woods presiding, Bolton Brown Service directing.

STELLA E. GREENE

Member of First Baptist Church of Alabaster

Stella E. Greene, 75, of Alabaster died May 23, 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alabaster and was employed by the Wal-Mart in Pelham.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Lesley Greene; son, Charles "Ricky" Greene (Judy) of Alabaster; daughter, Paula L. Christian of Alabaster; grandchildren, Kelly Pitts, Katlin Christian, Madison Christian and JonPaul L. Christian; sisters, Annie Laura Scott and Eva Lee Irvin, both of Detroit, Mich., Mary Lou Ford of Green Springs, Miss., Alvie Huffstuttler of Kenosha, Wis., and Jean Brown of Alabaster.

Funeral was May 25 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Mike Byar presiding. Burial followed in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South in Hoover, Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens directing.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.

KATHERINE SHORT HAMRICK

Columbiana resident

Katherine Short Hamrick, 73, of Columbiana died June 4, 2002. She was born Feb. 26, 1929 in Jefferson County.

She is survived by her son, Lester Hamrick; daughters, Karen McCartney, Donna Betts and Debbie Martin; brother, Carl Short; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

Funeral was June 5 at the Bolton Brown chapel, the Rev. Howard Brasher presiding. Burial followed at the Pinelawn Gardens Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service directing.

JIMMY HANNER

Wilsonville resident

Jimmy Hanner, 62, of Wilsonville died June 5, 2002. He was born on Jan. 4, 1940 in Shelby County.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Hanner; two sons, Bret Hanner and Bart Hanner; two daughters, Linda Mehaffey and Donna Veitch; three step-children, Chris Taylor, Tammy Taylor and Darryl Taylor; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Charlotte Gardnes; and two brothers, Gene Hanner and Paul Hanner.

Graveside service was June 6 with Rev. Chris Taylor and Ray Smith officiating, Bolton Brown Service directing.

PERCY LEE HORTON SR.

Member of Grant Chapel AME Church

Percy Lee Horton Sr., 71, of Calera died June 1, 2002.

He was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and a member of the Grant Chapel AME Church in Calera where he served as the president of the steward board. He was retired from Dravo Lime Company.

He is survived by his son, Carl W. Horton; daughters, Bettye Peeples, Lelia Mitchell, Juanita Bailey, Linda (Rick) Simon, Celisa Gaithers, and TaBrenda Horton; brothers, Joe E. (Barbara) McCary, Richard McCary Jr., and Roy McCary; sisters, Oradee Hayes and Princella Foreman; friend, Yoshiko Stoudmire; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service was June 8 with Verlon D. Houston presiding. Burial followed at Shelby Memory Garden in Calera, Westside Funeral Home directing.
