PINKARD, Mr. Otis, 95, a resident of Tuskegee, Alabama passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Chapel AME Church, 2508 Old Montgomery Road, Tuskegee Institute, Alabama. Mr. Pinkard will lie in repose at People's Funeral Home, 500 Fonville Street, Tuskegee, Alabama, on November 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. The family visitation hour, also on November 18, will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Pinkard is survived by his wife Inez; one son; four daughters; ten grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. Otis Pinkard has spent most of his adult life forcing open the doors of opportunity for minorities and fighting discrimination and oppression, but he has also found the time to encourage preparation and achievement among his people.

1942-2011
Funeral service for Mr. James Lee Griffin, 69, of Wetumpka, will be Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Randy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home. Mr. Griffin passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Spring Hill Medical Center in Mobile. He was born on August 24, 1942 in Eagle Creek, Alabama to James Ferrin Griffin and Ida Lee Coker Griffin. He was a member of Orr Street Baptist Church. Mr. Griffin graduated from Benjamin Russell High School, class of 1960 and then attended Jacksonville State University and Auburn University of Montgomery. He went on to work 49 years with the Alabama Dept. of Transportation as a Quality Control Preliminary Design Engineer on the Interstate Highway System. He also worked with consulting firms all over the state of Alabama. Mr. Griffin was an avid Auburn fan, enjoyed fishing, and loved the lake and his beagle, Gus. He was known as a jokester and enjoyed his friends at work and loved spending time with his friends and most importantly his family. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Gayle Kennedy Griffin of Wetumpka; daughters, Tracey G. Rogers (Jeremy) of Albertville and Abigail G. Pope (Benjy) of Wetumpka; son, Matthew Griffin Moore (Stephanie) of Montgomery; grandchildren, Ben Pope, Katie Pope, Scott Moore, Sarah Rogers, and Chloe Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents. Radney Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
HEAD, Thomas Richard 'Tripp' III
HEAD, Thomas Richard 'Tripp' III of Homewood passed away November 17, 2011 at the age of 41. Born March 1, 1970 in Montgomery, Mr. Head grew up in Wetumpka and graduated from Edgewood Academy, attended The University of the South and graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. He received his Masters in Biology from the University of South Alabama, and it was there he realized his passion for environmental law. Mr. Head earned his Juris Doctorate from the Cumberland School of Law and his Master of Laws in Environmental Law from George Washington University. Mr. Head was a partner at Balch and Bingham LLP, an Adjunct Professor for Samford University's Masters Degree Program in Environmental Management, and served as Past Chair of the Environmental Law Section of the Alabama State Bar. He dedicated his time to the YMCA's Camp Cosby by serving on the Board of Management and was a member of The Cathedral Church of the Advent and of Kappa Alpha Order. Mr. Head is survived by his wife of 11 years, Julie Austin Dorrough Head, and daughters Mary Austin and Jane Harris of Homewood, parents Tommy and Nell Harris Head of Wetumpka, sister Laurie Head Hutchinson and husband Thad and niece Hadden of Wetumpka, in-laws Scotty and Anne Austin Dorrough of Birmingham, sister-in-law Leigh Anne Dorrough Robertson and husband Jim and niece Elizabeth of Rockford, IL, aunt Martha Head Givens of Montgomery, and aunt Tricia Harris Farha and husband Ken of Montgomery. A dear friend to many, Mr. Head was a lifelong outdoorsman, avid reader, devoted husband and loving father. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 1:00 PM at The Cathedral Church of the Advent with a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM at the Church, The Very Rev. Frank F. Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her husband, William Richard (Dick) Mason; parents, Eva May France Ross and Dell Noblitt Ross. She is survived by her son, Richard R. Mason (Brenda), Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Janet M. Hamilton, Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Brenda Dawn Brill (Randy), Wichita, KS, Bryan Dell Mason (Germany), William David Mason (Amanda) Yuma, AZ, Jean Eva Helton (Ronnie) Knoxville, TN, Michael Wayne Hamilton (Lisa), Clarksville, TN; seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Mason was born in Philadelphia, PA, graduated from Haverford High School, Upper Darby, PA and Banks Business College. She excelled at playing the trumpet and the piano. She married Dick, February 8, 1941. His long career in retail mostly as a store manager resulted in numerous relocations, including Ocean City and Atlantic City, NJ, Rochester and Buffalo, NY, and other locations in Kentucky and Tennessee. Edith packed up each time and landed a new job as secretary, usually ending up running the office at various businesses, including Seashore Ornamental Iron in New Jersey. JINRIGHT, E. Foch, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011, at home after a short illness. He was born April 26, 1922 in Montgomery County, the son of James Harvey Jinright and Annie Hudson Jinright, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Wade, Lee, John, and Harvey. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laura Chambliss Jinright; two nieces, Ann Jinright Rice (Auburn) and Bobbie Jinright Pace (Auburn); three nephews, Harry, Toby, and James Jinright, all of Montgomery. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, the Tower Sunday School Class, and the Heritage Club. He was a Mason and Shriner and served during World War II in the Army Signal Corps. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery at 11:00 am with Dr. Lawson Bryan and Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. A native of Tennessee, Joe was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and worked for Dixie Bowl and Bama Lanes as a maintenance superintendant for many years. He was also a Mason. STEINDORFF, Gilbert Calvin, Jr.
STEINDORFF, Gilbert Calvin, Jr. "Calvin", passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Calvin Steindorff and Florrie Kern Steindorff. He served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII in the European Theatre of Operations. After returning home from the war, he was appointed as Tax Assessor of Butler County at the age of 21 and served at this post for the next 28 years. In 1975 he was appointed Probate Judge of Butler County and served for 20 years until his retirement in 1995. He was a public servant for 48 years and member of many civic organizations and named Greenville Man of the Year. He was a lifelong member and Elder of The First Christian Church where he also served as Secretary. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; Maxine Darby Steindorff and his son, Gilbert (Gil) C. Steindorff III (Debbie) and grandson, Gilbert (Bert) C. Steindorff IV (Amy). He has two great- granddaughters, Margaret Darby and Elizabeth Ann Steindorff of Birmingham. He spent his life serving the people of Butler County with devotion, commitment and selflessness. A visitation will be held for family and friends at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 16th from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with graveside services to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, AL with Pastor Tommy Bowman and Rev. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Amra Ferguson and Josephine Boais, both of Montgomery, AL. She is survived by her two nieces, Elizabeth Ferguson of Louisville, KY and Patricia Potter (Michael) of Madison, AL.; cousin, Joseph Bared of Wetumpka, AL.; and two great nieces, Amy Bock (Chris) of Huntsville, AL and Leigh Tarr (Justin) of Madison, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Jones; mother, Gussie McCall Gamble; father, Selma Gamble; daughters, Mamie Ruth Jones and Mattie Gilmore; son J. D. Jones. She leaves to cherish three sons, James (Betty), Melvin (Georgia) and Samuel Thomas (Abbie); one daughter, Thelma (Alonzo) Sankey; one sister, Johnnie Mae Hollis; one brother, Samuel Gamble; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A lot of lives were touched by her love and kindness and she will be greatly missed and remembered.
