CHAMPION, Mrs. Evelyn Waldrup, age 91, a resident of Verbena, AL died on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Wetumpka Nursing and Rehab in Wetumpka, AL. She was born on August 4, 1918 in Tallapoosa County, AL, daughter of the late Clyde Leon Waldrup and Nettie Thornton Waldrup. She retired from Farm Bureau Insurance in 1984 as an Insurance Agent. After her retirement she received her real estate license. She loved gardening and completed the Master Gardner Course along with art & painting classes. Surviving are her sons, John C. (Carlene) Champion of Albany, OR, George S. (Pam) Champion of Mt. Airy, GA, and David (Lucinda) Champion of Verbena, AL; 7 Grandchildren; 6 Great-Grandchildren; sister, Lois Anne Manderson of Vance, AL; and sister-in-law, Roberta Waldrup of Montgomery, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Champion; daughter, Laurel Lou Trenchard; brothers, Lee Waldrup, Milton Waldrup, and Ed Waldrup. WALLACE, Velma Christine Finch, age 98, a resident of Westminster Village in Spanish Fort, Alabama, died on March 23, 2010. Mrs. Wallace was born in Arlington, Alabama on February 12, 1912 to Peyton Newell and Lucy Belle Finch. After high school graduation she attended Alabama College in Montevallo, AL. She graduated in 1934. Mrs. Wallace then began a teaching career which took her to schools in Cullman, Opelika, and Anniston, AL. In 1948 she was married to Joseph Stephen Wallace, Sr. in a ceremony at her parents' home in Browns, AL. Together they managed their ranch and farming operation for 45 years. She and her husband were long time members of Marion Junction Methodist Church. Mrs. Wallace was a devoted wife and mother who always put the needs of her family first. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and grandson, Thomas Newell Wallace. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her children Judith Christine Hawes (Russell) of Spanish Fort, AL, Mary Belle "Bebe" Cox (David) of Haleyville, AL, and Joseph Stephen Wallace, Jr ( Lucy) of Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren, Chrissy, Mark (Jill) and Mary Beth Hawes, Ashley and Joseph (Neetika) Cox, and Joe, Emily, and Elizabeth Wallace, and one great grandchild, Grace Hawes. HUBBARD, Louise Norris, 75, of Prattville and Millbrook, Alabama, died May 23, 2010 in Jackson, GA from stroke related complications. Since 2005 she resided in Georgia with her daughter, Linda Harvey. Ms. Hubbard was born January 13, 1935 to James and Hursie (Webb) Norris. She attended Holtville High School in Deatsville, AL. She worked in administrative positions in the health care field for many years. A fiercely independent woman, Louise was never afraid to speak out and speak up for those without a voice. Mothering came naturally to her; she was always available with an ear, a hug and an opinion, not only for the children she raised, but also for the countless others who were her children in heart, if not in blood. Louise is survived by her daughter Barbara Shirley; son, Jimmy Truitt and daughter-in-law, Dixie; daughter, Linda Harvey and son-in-law, Jerry; son, Michael Truitt; daughter, Debra Lusk and son-in-law, Michael; son, Steven Parker; son, Dennis Hubbard and daughter-in-law, Michelle; son, Donald Hubbard and daughter-in-law, Jessica; 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother, James Lamar Norris. Mrs. Bossom passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her residence. She was born on October 9, 1925 in Goodwater, Alabama to Arthur Lee Ray and Bessie Lu Hood Ray. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. She worked as a Statistical Clerk for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and after retirement was a homemaker. She loved to grow flowers and had a green thumb. Mrs. Bossom was a sweet and gentle person and was everyone's "Memaw". Family time was the most important to her. She is survived by her husband of thirty five years, John L. Bossom, Jr. of Alexander City; daughter, Kathleen B. Thompson of Memphis, TN; sons, Thomas Ray Sargent (Glenda) of Tuskegee, Ronald L. NORMAN, Harold Eugene, age 71 of Hanceville died Friday May 21, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 16, 1939 in Ramer, AL. He was a retired truck driver with Wal-Mart Transportation, and also a mobile home mover with his son, Gene - owner of Norman Mobile Home Transportation, Inc. Harold loved his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved talking to people, and truly enjoyed his work, especially moving mobile homes. Harold will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ella Jones Norman; his parents, Thomas S. and Ruby Gibson Norman; and a brother, Luther Norman. He is survived by two sons, Gene (Karen) Norman and Harold Kirk Norman Keller; a daughter, Candy (Rodney) Jacobs; five grandchildren: Haley, Katie, & Alex Jacobs; and Madison & Sam Norman; five brothers: Thomas (Wilkie); Edgar (Myrtle); Neil; Ralph (Murray); and J.C. PRICE, Tigjo Powell
PRICE, Tigjo Powell, age 94 of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Cullman Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on June 12, 1915, in Elmore County, Alabama, to William C. Powell and Tigjo Haynie Powell. While attending high school in Eclectic, Alabama, she married Hoyt Price of Alexander City, Alabama. They made their home there for many years and reared two daughters: Monnie Jo and Shirley Ann. Both Tigjo and Hoyt were employed by Avondale Mills and were active members of the B. B. Comer Memorial Methodist Church. After Hoyt's death in 1961, Tigjo moved to Montgomery where she was employed as a secretary at the State Attorney General's office until her retirement at age 66. Tigjo was a member of the Montgomery Art Guild, the Wetumpka Art Guild, the Sacs Gallery, the Women's Club, New Era Club, Entre Nous Art Club, Elmore County Art Guild. and the World Affairs Council. After taking painting lessons, this became a major focus in her life. Her favorite subjects to paint both in oil and water color were country scenes and flowers. Also she was an enthusiastic gardener who loved to grow flowers; bouquets from her garden graced Sunday School rooms as well as homes of friends and neighbors. Tigjo remained active in Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church, with whom she made two trips to the Holy Land. Her travels also included Alaska, the Panama Canal Zone, the Bahamas, China, Thailand, Holland, Germany, England, and France. Her survivors include two daughters: Monnie Jo Tobin of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Shirley Ann Dovel of Cullman, Alabama; six grandchildren: James Pickering Dovel, Glenn Clifton (Vicky) Dovel, Richard (Georgia) Tobin, Henry Hoyt Tobin, Elizabeth Powning, and Vanessa Tobin; two great-grandchildren; Ricky Tobin and Leah Powning; two sisters: Glennie Johnson and Essie Tapley; two sisters-in-law: Elma Thomas and Sara Tom (Hayward) Price; and several nieces and nephews. JACKSON, Sylvester Jr., age 61, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama expired Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 12:00 noon at Eastwood Cemetery with Minister Nyrome Hawkins officiating and E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home directing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia M. Jackson and Sylvester Jackson Sr., grandparents, Sallie B. Hawkins and Willie Hawkins Sr., and brother Marvin Sylvester Jackson Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Harold Jackson, Jeremiah Jackson, Willie L. Jackson, Sylvester Jackson III, Tavares Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Travis Jackson, Sabrina Jackson, Felicia Jackson, Jasmine Jackson and Eureka Jackson; sisters/brothers, Ernestine Rice, Lynn Clayton, Melvin Jackson, Curtis (Sharon) Jackson Sr., Augustus Smith and Daniel Lewis, a host of aunts, uncles, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a devoted niece, Nina Rice, and a devoted friend Leroy Cain.
