TUBBS, Alice Chandler

TUBBS, Alice Chandler, age 90, a resident at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Montgomery, Alabama died Saturday, July 16, 2005 after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the Moundville United Methodist Church with Reverend Grant Parker officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Tubbs was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis Rogers Tubbs, her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Luther chandler, two brothers, Roy, Jr., Joe Palmer and one grandson Matthew Rogers Tubbs. Her survivors include two daughters, JoAnna (G.E.M.) Middlebrooks and Janeen Hamilton of Montgomery, four sons, George Rogers (Susan) and David Allen (Gina) Tubbs of Birmingham, Robert Chandler (Marie) Tubbs of Moundville and Walter Harold (Sharon) Tubbs of Salem, Missouri, two sisters, Eleanor Graves of Demopolis and Carolyn Berry of Fayette, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends who will cherish her memory. Upon graduation from high school in her hometown of Fayette, Miss Chandler attended and graduated from Montevallo State Teachers' college with a Business Education Degree. Her first teaching assignment was a Hale County High School in Moundville, Alabama. She soon married thereafter and then devoted herself fulltime to being a wife and mother. She resumed teaching career in 1965 to help provide a college education for her children. "Miss Alice", as she was affectionately called by her students and family, was known for her artistic abilities and her sweetness of character. She served as advisor to the school's Beta Club and was assistant organist for her church. Active pallbearers will be Mark Middlebrooks, Allen and Jonathan Tubbs, Richard Carter III, Brian Rohling, and G.E. Middlebrooks. Honorary pallbearers will be John Robert and Margorie Wiggins, Jessie Wiggins, Paul and Nell Griffin, Victor and Madie Irene Poole, Manley and Inez Hall, Pat, Jr. and Mildred Sharp., and members of the Moundville United Methodist church Adult Sunday School Class. Visitation hours will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mrs. Tubbs' body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville, Alabama. WRIGHT, Laura G., a resident of Montgomery, Alabama expired Tuesday July 19, 2005 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 25, 2005 at 11:00 am from Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Calvin McTier officiating. Interment will be held at First Missionary Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, White Hall, AL., with E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. directing. She leaves to cherish precious memories: one brother, Mr. Nathan (Estelle) Gresham; one grandchild; a devoted niece, nephew and cousin, Pastor Beatrice Stovall, Mr. Rufus Jackson and Mrs. Evelyn Singleton as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved her dearly. SNOW, William C., II, 62, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005, in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at 5 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Reed Wilbanks officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Karen Day Snow; two sons, William Cory Snow III (Sheila Sullivan) and Scott Culver Snow, Portland, ME; one brother, John C. Snow, Holden, MA; one sister, Linda McKenna, MA; one granddaughter, Molly Sullivan Snow, Portland, ME. Mr. Snow has been employed with Fairchild Semi-Conductor, L.L. Bean and Barber Foods; he was a member of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church and the Newcomers Club of Montgomery; and he was a member of the Gunter Park HR Association. A member of the Colby College Alumni Association, he also attended Brown University. The family requests that donations be made to the William C. Snow II Scholarship Fund at Regions Bank.

ANDERSON, Billie Jean, began her journey of eternal rest on July 22,2005. She was born to Mary Susie Fuqua and James Franklin Speed on July 11, 1930 in Belmont Alabama . Raised in the Belmont community of Sumter County, Billie attended school in Livingston and graduated from Demopolis High School in 1948. Billie will be dearly missed by her devoted sons, Randall L. Thorn (Susan) and Donald G. Thorn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years,George E. Anderson and her brothers J.T. Speed and James Franklin Speed Jr. of Demopolis, Alabama . Surviving Family include her sisters, Louise S. Achord (Henry) of Montgomery, Edna S. Nummy (Eddie) of Prattville and Lillian S. Killingsworth of Panama City, Florida and her brothers, William T. Speed of Prattville and Howard T. Speed (Kay) of Oxnard, California. Billie was a kind and giving woman. After retiring with 38 years employment with the Koppers Company, she gave her time to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was active in her church and Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church of Prattville. Billie's sons wish to express their gratitude to the many friends who have called, sent numerous cards and stopped by to comfort their Mother during her illness. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Anderson's nephews, Michael Sealy, Ernest Sealy, Jr.; Billy Speed, Morris S. Wildsmith, Ronnie Nummy and Kerry Cousby. Funeral services will be held Monday July 25,2005 at 9:30 A.M. at Leak-Memory Chapel with Rev. Randy Woodham officiating.Visitation will be one hour prior to services. HANKE, Mattie Louise Davis, age 89, a resident of Montgomery, Al., died Thursday, July 21, 2005. Funeral services will be Monday, July 25, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel with Reverend Fred Fuller and Reverend Misty Roberts officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Hanke is preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Hanke, a sister Gertrude Brown, and a brother John Roy Davis. She is survived by one daughter Barbara H. Williams and her husband Glenn of Montgomery, Al., two sons John B. Hanke and his wife Marcia of Dothan, Al and William R. Hanke and his wife Dale of Marietta, Ga., two grandchildren Stephen M. Williams of Princeton, NJ and Shannon W. Norwood of Franklin, TN, four great grandchildren Robert and Patrick Norwood and Charlotte and Anna Williams, three step-grandchildren and one brother Charles Hybart Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hanke, William Hanke, Glenn Williams, Steve Williams, Andrew Norwood, Robert Norwood and Patrick Norwood. Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday. YOUNG, Ronda F., 63, a resident of Wetumpka, AL formerly of Montgomery died peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25, 2005 at 1:00 PM from Leak-Memory Chapel with Pastor Billy Shirley of the Magnolia Baptist Church officiating, where she was a member. Burial will follow at Pine View Memorial Gardens in Wetumpka, AL. Mrs. Young was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her two daughters, Tammy R. Whatley and Sheryl D. Lyne (Craig); a son, Eddie Young (Marlene); a brother, Paul D. Herring (Libby) a sister, Donnita D. Harrah (Robert); six grandchildren, Christina Whatley, Jessica Salyers, Brandon Young, Amber Whatley, Gracie Lyne, Madison Young and several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be friends of the Montgomery Fire Department. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery Cancer Center. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

JOHNSON, Mrs. Darlene Edwards, affectionately known as "Q-bay" departed this life on Thursday, July 21, 2005. She was the second eldest of five children born April 17 1936, to the late Jimmy Green Edwards and Anna Lue Edwards Grace in Montgomery, Alabama. Darlene was a loving and devoted mother and sister. She is preceded in death by her eldest brother Curlee Parks. She leaves to cherish her memories four children; Barbara Ann Johnson, Vanessa Johnson Henderson, Darlene Johnson Prevo all of Montgomery, AL and Gregory (Cherineca) Johnson of Birmingham, AL; two sisters, Annie (George) Dixon, Kate Robinson, both of Montgomery, AL; two brothers, Jimmy (Judy) Edwards, Gary, IN and Joe Lewis Edwards of Montgomery, AL; 21 Grand children, 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m., Union Chapel AME Zion Church, Montgomery, Alabama. Ausborn, Montgomery, AL; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Ms. Eloise Bailey, Jasper, TX; also special friends and caregivers, Richelle Hopkins, Erma Rogers and Elizabeth Billups, Lennwood Nursing and Rehab Center of Dallas, TX, Cedar Crest Nursing and Rehab of Montgomery, AL, Amedisys Home Health Care of Montgomery, AL, Southern Care Hospice Facility and Dr. John Gaigler and staff.

TOTH, Carolyn Lee, 68, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at 10:00 am, from the chapel of Prattville Memorial. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and Sid Blackwell and Darlene Montgomery; two sons, Michael and Frank Toth all from Prattville; four grandchildren, David Blackwell, Matthew Montgomery, Christopher Tatum and Nicholas Toth; one sister, Sharon Hostetler of Kokomo, IN. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Monday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

BELL, Betty Jane Krug

BELL, Betty Jane Krug, 85, died Friday, July 22, 2005. Her Burial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Drake Whitelaw officiating. Committal will follow in the church Burial Garden.

Mrs. Bell was born July 13, 1920, in Belleville, IL, to Julia and Arthur Krug. In her earlier years, she was a ballerina. As a military wife, Betty lived in many places and was always very active in her community. Volunteer activities included serving as OWC president, Women's Golf Association president, Den Mother, Brownie leader and Red Cross volunteer. Betty was an avid golfer, bridge player, and Clay Club member. She was also a gourmet cook and spent several years as a free-lance cookbook editor. Betty was a life-long Episcopalian and an active member of the Church of the Holy Comforter for forty years. She was much loved by her family.

Mrs. Bell is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lt. Col. (Ret,) Charles A. (Tiger) Bell; son, Tom Bell and wife Cindy; daughter Carol Kendrick and husband Gil; grandchildren Sarah Bell, Atlanta, GA, Andrew and wife Amy, Austin, TX; Austin, Kathryn and Allison Kendrick, Montgomery, AL; brother Stan Krug and wife Karen, Dallas, TX; and niece Betty Jo Krug and great niece Loren Walhart, Bisbee, AZ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Church of the Holy Comforter, 2911 Woodley Road, Montgomery, AL, 36111. Visitation will take place in the McQueen Room at Holy Comforter Church an hour prior to the service.

GRAHAM, Mr. Jep E., age 66, a resident of Deatsville, Alabama died Friday, July 22, 2005 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Veazey, Rev. John Sparks, and John Davis officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Davis Memorial / Mt. Hebron West Baptist Church Cemetery, Elmore, AL with Ellison Funeral Home of Wetumpka directing. Mr. Graham is survived by his wife, Genny Graham; five sons, Jep Graham, Jr., Robert (Beth) Graham, James Graham, Russell (Cindy) Graham, and John (Lorlei) Sanders; one daughter, Deedee (Henry) Blake; one sister, Billie Ruth Carmichael; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard from Draper Correction Center. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to Mt. Hebron West Baptist Church, P.O. Box 279, Elmore, AL 36025. The fami-ly will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time at Ellison Funeral Home on Monday. Mr. Graham served his country for twenty years in the United States Navy, having re-tired as Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of Mt. Hebron West Baptist Church. Mr. Graham retired as a Sergeant from Draper Correctional Center after many years of dedicated service.

REEDER, Lucille B., age 94, of Montgomery, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005 at Jackson Hospital. Mrs. Reeder was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Montgomery. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Reeder. Survivors include her son, William (Peggy) Reeder; four grandchildren, Dinah (Wally) Stewart of Germany, Scott Reeder of Clayton, AL, Frank Reeder of Deatsville, AL, Chris (Margie) Reeder of Deatsville, AL; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Ola Martin of Montgomery, AL. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 24, 2005 from 6:00 pm until 6:30 pm at Brookside Funeral Home in Millbrook, followed by a rosary at 6:30 pm. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 25, 2005 at 10:00 am at the Old St. Margaret section of Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery, AL with Father Albert Kelly officiating. She was preceded in death by her son Donald Castleberry, and 3 sisters Jeanette Renfroe, Mavis Emmerson and Claudette Lane. Her Pallbearers will be W.L. He is survived by 2 Daughters and a Son-in-Law Sarah Jean and Terry Lane of Letohatchee, and Shelia Marie Mulcahy of Montgomery. Grandchildren Jay Preston Lane, James Walter Buyck and Kay Lane, Daryl Thomas and Jessica Mulcahy, Michael Wayne and Brandi Mulcahy and Marc Hunter Mulcahy. HAIGLER, Mr. Charles Brightman, Jr.

HAIGLER, Mr. Charles Brightman, Jr., 69, a resident of Fort Deposit, AL, died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Haigler graduated from the University of Alabama in 1957. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army and worked with U.S. Steel before becoming General Manager and later President of Fort Deposit Motor Company. In 1999 the dealership moved to Greenville, AL and became Greenville Motor Company. He was president, Fort Deposit Chamber of Commerce from 1961-1962, served on the Fort Deposit Town Council from 1980-1992, Director of Fort Deposit Bank from 1979-1995, Board of Trustees, Alabama Automobile Dealers, Elder of Little Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church, member of Greenville Rotary Club and Executive Committee of Lowndes County Republican Party. Mr. Haigler was pre-ceded in death by his daughter, Mary Susan Haigler and brother Stephen Corbitt Haigler. Survivors include: wife, Susan Foster Haigler; son, Charles Brightman Haigler, III; brother, Timothy Cottrell Haigler (Ann) and sister, Carol Stephens Haigler. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 4 pm at the Little Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Koetje and Father Fred Lindstrom officiating. He was a member of the Thomasville United Methodist Church, a member of Oliver Lodge #334 F & AM, and was a member of the Abba Shrine Temple. Visitation will be at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, AL, on Sunday, July 24, 2005 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Thomasville Untied Methodist Church on Monday, July 25, 2005 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Philip Craddock officiating. Burial will be at Camden Cemetery, in Camden, AL.
