DUNCAN, Thomas "Ashley", 66, a resident of Wetumpka, Al., died Sunday, May 29, 2005. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 1,2005 at 11:00 AM at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home with Brian Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife Annette Moore Duncan, five daughters Daphne Duncan, Angela (Mike) May, Marilyn Duncan, Kim (Jason) Wright, and Alicia Ramsey, two sons Stephen (Paula) Dun-can and Jeremy Ramsey, one sister Florence Brown, four brothers Billy Duncan, Curtis Duncan, James Duncan and Douglas Duncan, and eleven grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

CURTIS, Marilyn (Twoie) Wright

CURTIS, Marilyn (Twoie) Wright, 76,died Sunday, May 22, peacefully at her home in Montgomery. Memorial services will be held Wednesday June 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, with Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. Visitation with the family will precede the memorial service at the church at 10 a.m. She was a native of Troy and attended the University of Alabama where she was an active member of the Kappa Delta sorority and graduated with a degree in education. She moved to Montgomery after college where she taught 4th grade for several years. She was an active member of the Junior League and wonderful mother to her two children Jerelyn Tiller Lawley (Davis) and Mark Daniel Tiller, Jr. Later in life Twoie met and married Fred Donald Curtis and moved to Pensacola, Florida where they had 13 wonderful years together until his death. She returned to Montgomery and spent the remainder of her life enjoying time with her many friends, taking part in the activities at Cara Vita and being a loyal member of her Joy Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church. Twoie was preceded in death by her father Dr. Edgar McBryde Wright, mother Mary Talbot Henderson Wright, sisters Marie Wright Pierce, Helen Wright Rose, Jerelyn (Onie) Wright Shelby, brother Edgar Clements Wright, and husband Fred Donald Curtis. She is survived by her daughter Jerelyn Tiller Lawley (Davis), son Mark Daniel Tiller, Jr., sister in law Carolyn Minard and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Twoie's memory to First United Methodist Church of Montgomery.

SHAW, Lurlie P., longtime resident of Montgomery, joined Jesus on her 80th birthday, (May 29, 2005). She was a charter-member of Taylor Road Baptist Church, enjoying her ladies bible school class. Employed with BellSouth for 37years, retiring in 1984. Funeral services will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel Wednesday, June 1, 2005at 2:00 P.M., with Dr. Joe Godfrey officiating. Graveside services will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Lurlie leaves a daughter, Bettye Mendez (Thomas), of Montgomery and a son, Jeffrey Green (Dee) of Moorseville. She leaves 6 grand-children, Pamela (John), Scott, Christopher (Tessa), Sarah (David), Jeff, Jr., and Jaime; 4 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, William, Gaige and Libby. She leaves a sister, Audrey Strumpfer (Donald) of Montgomery and a brother, Boyd(Buck) Pugh (Dorothy) of Selma, as well as many nieces and nephews. Pall Bearers are her son, Jeff Green, grandson, Jeff Green Jr., son-in-law, Thomas Mendez, grandson, Christopher Mendez, grandson-in-law, John Polke and great-grandson, William Evans. Honorary pallbearers are her brother Boyd (Buck) Pugh and her brother-in-law, Donald Strumpfer. Visitation will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Donations may be made to Taylor Road Baptist church building fund.

SMITH, Cora Lee, 95, a resident of Montgomery, Al., died Saturday, May 28, 2005. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 3:00PM at Memorial Heights Baptist Church with Reverend Stan Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was a member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband W.A. Smith, son Clarence Smith, daughter Della V. Wilkerson, sister Edna Johnson and brother Claude Sterling. She is survived by two sons Charles Smith and William Wayne Smith and wife Linda, daughter Nell Smith, grandchildren Ronald L. Wilkerson and wife Beverly, Alton Lee Wilkerson and wife Rita, Diana Edwards and husband Ricky, Mary Jude Smith and husband David, Coleman Smith and wife Jane, Michael Smith and wife Nancy, Angela Smith, John Smith and wife Lisa, Kevin Smith and wife Linda and Loretta Worsham and husband Hodge and numerous great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Fred Holiday, Steve Nave, Don Murphy, Ron Jones, Adam Wilkerson, and Michael Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Memorial Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Paul Benton Turner and daughter, Jane Turner Hamn, grandchildren, Jodi Jordan Henry (Rob), Janet Jordan Davidson(Scott), James Thomas Hamn, III Katherine), Paula Turner Roberts(Mike), Leigh Spratlin Jolas (Van),James Edwin Turner (Tammy), Catherine Benton Atchison (Paul) and sixteen great-grandchildren. SHELBY, Jerelyn W., age 76, a native of Troy, AL and a resident of Daphne, AL died Saturday, May 21,2005 at her residence. She is survived by two sons, Edwin Shelby of Birmingham, AL and Richard (Cara) Shelby of Fairhope, AL; her twin sister, Marilyn Curtis of Montgomery, AL who died the following morning; six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, June 01, 2005 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, Montgomery, AL. Mrs. Alldredge was preceded in death by a son, Donny. She is survived by her husband, Don; her daughter, Ginna; and her son David (Brandi); two brothers, Johnny Curry (Kim) and Tommy Curry (Marilyn). Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Jack Thompson Sunday School Class. BRIGGS, Margaret, 80, a resident of Montgomery, AL went home to be with the Lord Jesus on June 10, 2005. She attended Grace at Bell Road Church where she participated in the Agape Ladies Sunday School class. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Don Roe; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryle and James Blankenship, Debra and Sam Whatley; grandchildren Ryan Andersen, Paul Fiebelkorn, Margaret Kelley Blakeney and Thomas Blankenship; and great-grandchildren Gabi and Trey Fiebelkorn and Jasmine Blakeney. A graveside service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held Tuesday, June 14, at 11:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery.

ROSS, Mary Frances

ROSS, Mary Frances, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on June 9, 2005 in her loving home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 11:00 am at Saint Jude Catholic Church. Father James Holden will officiate. Ross Clayton Funeral Home, Directing. Interment: Greenwood cemetery.

Mary Frances was a "tribute" to her loving parents, Samuel and Estelle Johnson, who instilled values for honesty, hard work, education, and most importantly, love of God. Winston Ross (Sr.) had the good fortune and the "good sense" to make the young beautiful Mary Frances his bride. As she promised, Mary Frances loved honored and cherished Winston for 64 years. They were blessed with three children: Winston, Jr. and Donald (who filled thier hearts with pride) and Beverly (who stole their hearts). In later years Winston, Jr. graced the family by wedding the lovely Ann McKissack. Mary Frances was thrilled. Three grandchildren gave "G Mamma" sheer joy: Harold Smiley, Jr. ("Tuggy"); Erica Ross and Winston Ross, III. She dearly loved her seven great-grandchildren; Jeremy Simone, Fallon and Laliah Smiley; and Tyler, Winston IV, and Ryan Elizabeth Ross. Marry Frances was a consummate mother,grandmother and great-grandmother. She was "SIMPLY THE BEST"!

Her career with the Montgomery County School System spanned twenty-five years; fifteen years were spent at her beloved Bear Elementary School. She dearly loved her students and her young students and their parents loved and respected her.

Her many dear friends miss her. She was loved. Her devoted sisters-in-law, Margaret Taylor and Sally Mae Davis cherished her friendship. The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver; "The Stars", the Pokeno Group, and the Bridge Group will smile as they remember her fondly. Many "relatives of love" were privileged to call her "Sister:, "Aunt Mary France"; "G Mamma"; "neighbor" and we were privileged to have her live among us.

RAINER, Martha Bigbee (Mots)

RAINER, Martha Bigbee (Mots), died June 12, 2005 after an extended illness. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 18, 1925. A memorial service will be held at Southern Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 14, at 3:00 pm with Rev. John Ed Mathison officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held in Tuscumbia, Alabama the next day. Mots is survived by her children, Jack Feagin Rainer (Alice) and Dr. Ellen Rainer Andrews (John) of Montgomery. Grandchildren are Jack Feagin Rainer, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee, Brannon Fontaine Andrews of Houston, Texas, James Rainer Andrews and Matthew Millett Rainer (Kelly), and great-grandson, Matthew Millett Rainer, Jr. all of Montgomery. She is also survived by three brothers, Perry Bigbee (Frances), Larry Bigbee (Linda), and Steve Bigbee of Tuscumbia, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr and Mrs. John Hatton Bigbee and brother, John Hatton Bigbee, Jr. Mots was a member of the boards of the Working Women's Home, the Davis Theater, the Lighthouse Counseling Center, Mt. Meigs Detention Center Chapel, The Montgomery Junior League, and F.A.M.E. at the Booker T. Washington Magnet school since its inception. Her life was love of family, friends, art and music. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to F.A.M.E., Booker T. Washington Magnet School, 632 S. Union St., 36104

PRITLE, Amelia Lea, age 89, died at Baptist Hospital, South, on June 10, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Coden Assembly of God, Coden, AL, with Brother Reed Pigford officiating. Mrs. Pritle is survived by her sons, Ronald (Deborah Lea) Pritle of Montgomery, Harold Pritle, Jr.of Coden, a brother, Edwin H. Gould of Pensacola, FL, a sister , Lilybelle Johnson of Jackson, Mississippi and 2 grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife; Nettie Lawrence, children; Samuel Davis, Marquis Ivery, Ms. Cherlyn Patterson, step-children; Bobby Washington, Alexander Drake, Demetrius Drake, Frederick (Kristi) Drake, parents; Mrs. Della M. Brown, the late Henry Stone, sisters/brothers; Ella (Alfonzo) Clayton, Mary Lawrence, Rosia (Tony) Matthews, Susie (Harold) Magby, Willie H. Stephens, Danny (Ruby) Johnson, Otto (Debbie) Johnson, Butch Toliver, Sidney Williams, aunt; Ada Vickers, uncle; Jake (Beatrice) Lawrence, grandchild; Joshua Drake, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and very devoted friends. AKERS, Robert Allen

AKERS, Robert Allen, 91, passed away peacefully June 17, 2005, at John Knox Manor II after a brief illness. Visitation will be Monday, June 20, 2005, 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Rev. Stephen Folmar of Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate at the 12:30 PM service at the Leak-Memory Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Bob was born April 15, 1914, in Corryton, Tennessee. He was the youngest of eight children of James Hampton and Laura Lee Hubbs Akers. A gentle, kind spirit who never met a stranger, Bob always had a smile and good word for everyone he encountered. Bob served in the Army Air Corps, War Training Services during World War II. A life long love of printing began in high school and grew to fruition as he and brother Spurgeon purchased Davis Printing Company in Montgomery in late 1945. He retired from a successful printing career in 1975 and traveled extensively with his many friends in the Deep South Chapter of FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association). He was a charter member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. Bob was also a charter member of the Dixie Lions Club of Montgomery and a lifetime member of Alcazar Shrine Temple and Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge 173. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Helen Tarvin Akers. He is survived by his nieces, Marnie Goodgame of Montgomery and Barbara Akers Hardin (Clinton) of Moulton, AL; nephew, W. Robert Akers (Dawn) of Montgomery; and special friend, Evelyn Teague of Wetumpka, AL. Serving as pall bearers will be great nephews Brian Hardin, John Hardin, Mitch Henry, Greg Akers, Brad Akers and John Ross. Good friends, Roger Poole, Chuck Cole and Luke Lea will also serve as pall bearers. Fellow charter members Sam Diamond and Marvin Driver will lead the Dixie Lions Club of Montgomery as honorary pall bearers. Memorials may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2130 Bell Road, Montgomery, AL 36117, or the Presbyterian Home for Children, P. O. Drawer 577, Talladega, AL 35161.

BRICKEN, Mary Alice (Boswell), a resident of Montgomery, AL, died June 17 after an extended illness. A graveside service will be held on June 21 at 11:00 at Greenwood Cemetery with the Reverend Michael Howell of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at Leak-Memory. Mrs. Bricken was preceded in death by her husbands William Camp Boswell and Allen McDuffie Bricken, a son, Dr. William Camp Boswell, Jr., all of Montgomery; a sister, Arline Walter, Birmingham, AL. She is survived by a son, Cary Ford Boswell (Kim); daughter-in-law Marilyn M. Bowell, Montgomery, AL; a brother Alexander Preston Ford, Ft. Pierce, FL; brother-in-law Reese Bricken (Sunshine) Montgomery, AL; five grandchildren Cary Ford Boswell (Rebekah), Birmingham, AL, James Camp Boswell, Denver, CO, Meredith H. Boswell, Montgomery, AL, William Camp Boswell III, Birmingham, AL, Elizabeth Hill Boswell, Montgomery, AL; one great grandchild, Nora Boswell, Birmingham, AL; one niece Laura Hearn (Thomas), Winston Salem, NC; nephews Randy, Bruce and niece Lynn Ford all of Boca Raton, FL; and several great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bricken was always an optimistic person who enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved dancing and flower arranging and she cherished her friends who were many. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Montgomery, or ones favorite charity.
