Funeral services for Dorothy Belle Browder Boroughs were at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor and Rev. Bob Dixon officiated. Burial will be 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, AL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Leak-Memory. Mrs. Boroughs died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at her residence. She was born on October 24, 1916 to the late Bobby Neal Stanaland and Gladys Belle Williams Stanaland. She was married to Truman Frank Browder who died in 1962 and William Jones Boroughs who died in 1994. Mrs. Boroughs was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Garden Club, Bible Study groups, Keenagers and a member of the domino club while in Montgomery. She is survived by her nieces, Susan Kennington Carlson and Alice Kennington Jarvis, both of Thomasville, Hollie Stanaland of California, Bonnie Nebeker of Ocean Side, CA; great-nieces, Stephanie Carlson Murray, Brooke King, Meredith Yeomans, all of Thomasville; great-nephew, Neal Scoggins of Thomasville; great great-nieces, Meghan Goodin, Madison Goodin, Courtney May Murray and great-great-nephews, Trafford Goodin and Austin Yeomans.

HOLLY, Miss Nona Marlene

HOLLY, Miss Nona Marlene, and a native of Mobile and a resident of Montgomery for the past 20 years died Sunday, November 24, 2002. Miss Holly was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed many outdoor activities with family and friends. She was a Registered Pharmacist and worked at Baptist Tower Pharmacy for many years. She served on the Hospice Board at Baptist Health South. She is survived by three sisters, Glenda Rye, Mobile, Vance Holley, Georgiana and Gwen Holly, Piedmont, AL; three nieces; five great-nephews; one great-niece and many friends. Funeral services will held Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by SERENITY FUNERAL HOME, 8691 Pascagoula Rd., Mobile, AL.

SMITH, Margaret Bedsole, age 73, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Sunday, December 1, 2002. Services will be held at Alabama Heritage Chapel on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Rick Evans, Rev. Doyle Roberson and Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will take place at Clayton Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith is survived by: her husband, James (Amy) Smith, of Montgomery; daughters, Nanette S.(Allan) Martin, of Wetumpka, AL and Julie S. Young, of Montgomery; sons, James L. Smith Jr, of Clayton, AL and Donald L. Smith of Wetumpka, AL; sister, Sarah B. McLure of Arrada, Co and six grandchildren: Jonathan and Jordan Martin, Jamie, Andrew, Isabella and Eden Smith.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 12, 2002 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

DUNN, Marion Burton, 83, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Saturday, November 30, 2002. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Cemetery on Monday, December 2, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. Family and Friends will meet at the graveside. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jannings F. Dunn. Survivors include: one daughter: Carla Dunn Norell; two sons, Robert Phillip Dunn and Richard F. Dunn; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. LAMAY, Barbara Ball “Berri”, 33, a resident of Lompoc, California, and formerly of Montgomery, AL, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 3:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Patty Brooks officiating. She is survived by: her husband, Gordon Lamay; children: Catherine, Taylor and Jonathan Lamay; her mother, Barbara Roberts Ball; her father, Richard A. Ball, Jr.; two uncles, Jasper (Susan) B. Roberts and Fred (Doris) Ball, II and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catholic Social Services or to one’s favorite charity. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

MOERS, Mrs. Thomas (Marcelle Sabel), a Montgomery resident, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Jackson Hospital after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by: a son, Raymond and his wife, Julia; a grandson, Eric; her brother, Jim Sabel; sister-in-law, Rita Sabel; and several nieces and nephews. She lived in Detroit, Michigan for over thirty years before returning to Montgomery some twenty years ago. She was interested in several organizations, including: Temple Beth Or, The Standard Club, and the Montgomery Bridge Club, which she enjoyed weekly. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at Leak Memory Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Segel officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be her nephews and great nephews. Donations may be made to the Sabel Memorial Fund at Temple Beth Or, or The Montgomery Museum or to one’s own favorite charity. The family will also accept friends after 3:00 p.m. at Mrs. Moer’s residence.

NEWSOM, Joseph Douglas “Doug”, Sr., 83, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Mike Sigler and Rev. Jim Danley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. He is survived by: his wife, Annie Laurie Newsom; two children, Diane Newsom Barnes and Joseph Douglas Newsom, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Lorene (GH) Boles and Doris (Phil) Wilson; one brother-in-law, Edward (Doris) Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be: Alan Mitchell, Ed Mixon, George Boles, Floyd Odle, Mutt Herring, and Lee Boone. Honorary pallbearers will be the Keystone Sunday School Class at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or to The Methodist Children’s Home in Selma, AL or to the charity of one’s choice.

RENEAU, Ralph, long time resident of Montgomery, died Saturday, November 30, in a local hospital. He is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Reneau; two daughters, Gaynelle Burns of Atlanta and Judith Minister of Montgomery; seven grandchildren: Cindy Howton (Gino), Mike Bailey (Lauri), Angie Sanford (Patrick), Vernon Burns, Jr., Lynn Anthony (Mark), Sandy Kettler (Jeff), Mark Burns (Carman) and 11 great grandchildren. Mr. Reneau retired from the BOE after 50 years of service. He was a long time member of Valley Park Baptist Church and a loyal Shriner. The family will receive visitors from 5 -7 PM, Tuesday, December 3, at Leak-Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel on Wednesday, December 4 , 2002 at 2:00 with Rev. Harold Anderson and Rev. E. T. Horton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Smithson was preceded in death by one daughter, Edith O’Neal Dennis. She is survived by: one son, Tommy Wayne Merrell; three grandchildren: several great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Barker; one brother, Emmett Wright 004 ? 0007.04ţand several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband, Alton Roeten; children, Stacey Roeten, Dewayne Roeten, Ashley Roeten, Erica Roeten, Brett Roeten and Jesse Roeten; and two sisters, Carolyn Gibbs of Memphis, TN and Jean Abernathy of Montgomery, AL. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, December 2, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

WOOD, Bettina Shackleford, 57, of Montgomery, died November 25, 2002. She is survived by: her mother, Betty Smyer Shackleford, Montgomery; sister, Kay Brown, New York, New York; brother, Gil Shackleford (Sharron), San Jose, CA; nieces: Alison and Amy Shackleford and nephew, Graham Shackleford of San Jose, CA.

Ms. Wood was born in Lampasas, TX. She graduated from Lanier High School and from Auburn University with majors in both Art and English.

A memorial service will be announced later. Memorials may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 5280 Vaughn Road 36116.

WARR, Dr. Edgar Milton

WARR, Dr. Edgar Milton, age 87, of 967 North Claxton Avenue, Elba, AL, died at his residence Sunday, December 1, 2002. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Elba on Monday, December 2, 2002 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mart Gray and Rev. Andrew Smith officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery of Elba. The Warr family will receive friends at Hayes Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2002 from noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM.

Dr. Warr graduated from Troy State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education followed by a Masters of Science Degree n Administration from Auburn University. Dr. Warr continued his education at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, where he received his OD degree. Dr. Warr served his country with a field artillery unit during WWII. He taught school for a number of years with the Henry County school system where he later became principal. In 1950, Dr. Warr opened his optometry practice in Elba, where he practiced until 1981, being named Optometrist of the Year in 1961. Dr. Warr was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elba where he served as a Lifetime Deacon; He also served as Chairman of the Restoration Committee after the 1990 flood.

Survivors include: his wife, Irma Armstrong Warr of Elba; daughters: Janet King (Paul) of Troy and Sara Strong (Kenneth) of Elba; grandchildren: Susan Smith (Blair), Catherine Watson (Todd), Amy Hall (John), Robert King, Emily Rowland (Beau), Elena Strong and Elizabeth Strong; great-grandchildren: Chandler and Clarkson Smith and Todd Watson, Jr.

YOUNG, Derek LaPaul

YOUNG, Derek LaPaul, age 30, a resident of Brantley, AL, died Thursday, November 28, 2002. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 12:00 p.m. from the St. Matthew AME Church with Rev. William T. Chambers officiating. Burial will be at Shady Grove with BELL’s Hudson Funeral Home directing..

HARTLEY, Mary Alice

HARTLEY, Mary Alice, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2002 at the age of 90. She was born in Samson, Alabama on June 19, 1912. Mrs. Hartley grew up in Georgiana, Alabama and lived for many years in Dothan. She moved to Orlando, Florida in 1961 where she worshiped at Downtown Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hartley was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anderson Hartley and two grandsons: Joseph Anderson Hartley III and Jefferson Carr Givens. She is survived by three children: Joseph Anderson Hartley, Jr. and his wife, Elaine of Madison, Florida; Mary Carr Hartley Givens and her husband, Kenneth of Opelika, Alabama and Len Hartley and his wife of Apopka, Florida. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was be held at Downtown Baptist Church on November 30, 2002. A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, Alabama on December 3, 2002 at 11:00 a.m.. Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana is in charge. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Downtown Baptist Church, 120 East Pine Street, Orlando, Florida 32801 or Senior’s Ministry of Lockhart Baptist Church, 7601 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, Florida 32810.
