PAYNE, Lela Jones, 93, a resident of Montgomery, died Monday, November 25, 2002. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 27th at 2:00 p.m. from Leak-Memory Chapel with Reverend Larry Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Payne. She is survived by her son, R. L. Henry and daughter, Sandra Payne Werley, Ft. Worth, Texas; sister, Robbie Jones Wedgeworth, Alex City, AL; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Payne was a long time member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church having joined in 1953. She sang in the church choir. She also sang in a Quartet, and also was an accomplished pianist. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel.

WARD, Arthur Marvin, Jr., 84, a resident of Springfield, VA, died on Saturday, November 23, 2002, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial with Reverend officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel Directing. Mr. Ward was a native and long-time resident of Montgomery, AL and moved to Springfield, VA in 1961 to pursue a career with the Veterans Administration and retired in 1980. He was a Shriner, a Master Mason and a member of A. Jackson Lodge No. 173 of F & AM of Alabama. He also honorably served his country during World War II from 1940 to 1945 as a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cornelia Cobb Ward; son, A. Marvin Ward; daughter-in-law, Jennifer McKinney Ward; granddaughter, Savannah Nicole Ward; sister, Mary Ward Gray; brother-in-law, Charles F. Gray; sister-in-law, Priscilla Cobb Hendricks and several nieces and a nephew. Pallbearers will be Jim Cobb, Lt. Col. Jack Buckner, Anthony Yarbrough, Thomas E. Searcy, Thomas E. Searcy, Jr., Jack Dean, Edward Lee and James Reed. Charles F. Gray will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel one hour prior to his service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

She is survived by her parents, Monica Kunert and Justin David Arnette; grandparents, Deborah Ward and Ben Ward, Bob Kunert and Kathy and Robert Arnette; great-grandparents, Lewis and Kate Arnette, Kelly Edmond and a very special and dear friend, Mary Campbell “Maw Maw”.

Mrs. Scott was a native of Andalusia, AL and had been a resident of Brewton since 1994, coming from Bay Minette. She was a homemaker and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Brewton.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Frank L. Scott of Brewton; a son, Jeffrey Lloyd Scott and his wife, Susan Ann Gaylord of Durham, NC; two daughters, Fran Scott of Nashville, TN and Susan Porch and husband John Porch of Easton, MD and five grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Brewton on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Douglas Williams, Rev. Tom Butts and Rev. Floyd Enfinger officiating. Interment will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
