HUGHES, Robert Allen, “Bobby”, 74, a resident of Thomasville, GA, lifelong resident of Montgomery, died Sunday, October 13, 2002. Mr. Hughes retired with Bell South with 30 years of service, where he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He also worked for the State of Alabama Telecommunications Department. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy, a member of Capitol Heights Baptist Church and an avid Alabama football fan. Funeral services will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Sandifer and the Rev. Warren Culver officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Dill Hughes and Clarence Lee Hughes, one sister, Mildred Hughes Carter. Survivors include his wife, Jane Hughes; one daughter, Carol Hughes Waites; step-daughter, Paige Saunders and step-son, Glen Bierman; two sisters, Betty Jo Hughes Gilpin and Mary Lee Hughes Gipson; two grandchildren, Natalie Ann Waites and Charles Leslie Waites, III and three step-children, Andrew, Scott and Will Saunders. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends from the first grade, Pi Delta Kappa, co-workers of Bell South and the State of Alabama. ROBINSON, Charlie James (Jim), Jr., age 73, of Montgomery, died October 14, 2002. Mr. Robinson was past President of Ben-Mar Paper Company, and served as Mayor of Montgomery from 1971 to 1977. He was also active in the Montgomery Kiwanis and an active member of The First Baptist Church of Montgomery. Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wells Robinson; daughter, Vickie Robinson (Scott) Williams; son, Donnie (Nancy) Robinson; five grandchildren, Sally, John Neal and Wells Robinson, Michael and Mallory Williams and his sister, Mary Mealy.
