VALLEY -- Funeral services are pending for Mrs. Brandi Clifton, 27, of Valley, who died Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2003 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

MR. MARTIN
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Mr. Herbert H. Martin, 77, of Savannah, formerly of Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at Lanett Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Roy Bain officiating.
Cremation services will follow the church service.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Dianne T. Martin; children of the late Hazel D. Martin, Janice Weiner of Millville, N.J., Jeff (Susan) Martin of Lanett and Joel (Teresa) Martin of LaGrange; one adopted son, Freddie Hamby of Roanoke, Ala.; one sister, Gladys Jones of Valley; five grandchildren, Jennifer Devitt of Huguley, Jon Martin and James Martin, both of Lanett, Joey Weiner of Vineland, N.J., and Hollis Martin of LaGrange; and one great-grandchild, Christopher Morris of Huguley.
Born Aug. 21, 1926 in Wadley, Ala., Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, with over 22 years of service.
He received a battlefield commission in Korea on Feb. 22, 1951.
He retired as a lieutenant colonel April 1, 1968.
Upon his retirement from military service, he attended Columbus State University under the G.I. Bill and graduated with honors with a degree in economics and a degree in accounting.
Mr. Martin retired from WestPoint Pepperell after 18 years of service.
He also retired in 1996 after eight years as an owner/operator of four McDonald Restaurants in Aiken, S.C.
Mr. Martin was a member of Lanett Congregational Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruner and James Martin; and his sister, Bessie Mae Pitts.
He was the son of the late Hurley and Laura Bell Martin.
The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to Lanett Congregational Christian Church in his memory.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 4 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.

MR. SHAW
VALLEY -- Mr. Frank Shaw, 74, of Valley died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at Shawmut United Methodist Church with the Revs. James Harper, Robert Huff and A.C. Weldon officiating.
Burial will follow in the Shawmut Cemetery.
Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife, Judy Oliver Shaw of Valley; one son, O'Neal (Ann) Shaw of Valley; one sister, Mildred Lumpkin of Valley; three grandchildren, Amy (Kelly) Thompson of Valley, Libby (Brandon) Heath of LaFayette and Melissa (Adam) Roberts of Valley; and eight great-grandchildren, Brett Shaw, Luke Thompson, Mollie Thompson, Jordi Thompson, Noah Thompson, Haleigh Heath, Alli Heath and Audie Roberts.
Born Aug. 11, 1929 in Valley, Mr. Shaw was retired from Fairview Mill in Valley with over 20 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the
Korean War.
He was a member of the Riverside Country Club and was an avid golfer.
He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Mr. Shaw was an active member of the Valley Senior Center in Valley, and a member of Shawmut United Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Lou Etta Yarbrough Shaw and Neal Shaw.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Shawmut First Methodist Church in Valley.

LANETT -- Mrs. Viola H. Smith, 91, of Lanett died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. at Faith Temple Church of God in Huguley with the Revs. Kenny Pierce and Joe Schuck officiating.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Lenora (Lamar) Fuller of Valley; one son, Thaniel Smith of Lanett; one sister, Adell Dalrymple of Forest Park, Ga.; one brother, William (Mozelle) Hendley of Roanoke, Ala.; eight grandchildren, DeAnna (Jim) Hill, Saundra (Kenneth) Lashley, Lisa (Tony) Umberger, Sherry (Steve) Trickey, Jody (Pam) Keeble, Gerald (Deanna) Smith, Robbie (Sandra) Fuller and Wiley (Phyllis) Bishop; 16 great-grandchildren, Aspen Hill, Jamie Hill, Tonya (Eric) Laney, Whitney Lashley, Joni Trickey, Jeni Trickey, Kelsea Keeble, Meagan Umberger, Gage Keeble, Collin Smith, Conner Smith, Josh Trickey, Chase Fuller, Steven Bishop, Hunter Bishop and Corey Umberger; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Linda Givorns and Shirley Hardwick.
Born April 25, 1912 in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Faith Temple Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike M. Smith.
She was the daughter of the late Mary Daniel Hendley and Tom Hendley.

LANETT -- Mrs. Colie Daniel, 75, of Lanett died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at her residence.

Mrs. Daniel is survived by one daughter, Sherry Daniel Nix of Milledgeville, Ga.; one sister, Wilma Hart of LaGrange; one brother, Earl Thompson of Franklin, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
Born March 18, 1928 in Carrollton, Ga., Mrs. Daniel was a retired employee of the Playtex Corporation in LaGrange.
She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in LaGrange.
She was the daughter of the late Alma Kate Veal Thompson and Leonard Thompson.

MRS. FANT
LANETT -- Mrs. Mary Fant, 79, of Lanett died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. (CST) at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette with the Rev. Jim Luttrell officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Fant is survived by one son, Randall (Phyllis) Fant of Wadley, Ala.; three grandchildren, Tamara Flournoy, Alicia Daugherty and Shane Chavers; and two great-grandchildren, Lizzie Flournoy and Lindsey Chavers.
Born Nov. 8, 1923 in Chambers County, Mrs. Fant was retired from Lanett Mill after 48 years of service, and also operated a beauty shop in Lanett for many years.
She was a member of Community Chapel Church of God in Lanett.

VALLEY -- Funeral services are pending for Mr. Howard Jake Haynes, 84, of Valley, who died Sunday evening, Nov. 30, 2003 at his residence.

MR. SESSIONS
TALLASSEE, Ala. -- Mr. Wallace "Putt" Sessions Jr., 55, of Tallassee died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Linville Funeral Home Chapel in Tallassee with the Revs. Phillip Sessions and Sonny Kent officiating.
Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. (EST) at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.
Mr. Sessions is survived by one sister, Linda D. McCarley of Byron, Ga.; one brother, Bobby L. Sessions of Macon, Ga.; a dear friend, Linda Coppinger of Tallassee; and several nieces and nephews.
Born July 13, 1948, Mr. Session served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a deputy in Henry County, Ga., and also in Chambers County, before becoming disabled.
He was a member of Lanett Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Sessions was active in the Tallassee community and was the keynote person for establishing the Jordanville Association of Neighborhood Watch.
When it later became the Tallassee Neighborhood Watch, he served as commander.
