Heard
HEFLIN
Services for Paul R. Heard, 71, of Heflin and formerly of Rootville, Ga., will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Edward Turner and Carey Heard officiating. Burial will follow at Chulafinnee Cemetery, with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
Mr. Heard died Tuesday at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Erma D. Heard; two daughters, Anneria Turman and Pamela Parker, all of Heflin; seven sons, Rev. Carey Heard of Clinton Township, Mich., Roscoe A. Heard of Anniston, Paul M. Heard of Memphis, James Parker and Michael Parker, both of Heflin, Tony Parker of Hope Mills, N.C., and Rev. Anthony Parker of Macon, Ga.; one sister, Mary Hellen Butts of Anniston; 23 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services for John Clyde Johnson, 79, of Glencoe will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Aaron Coffey officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6-8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Spakes Johnson of Glencoe; one sister, Ruby Tucker of Huntsville; three nieces and their spouses, Joyce and Gary Joyce of Huntsville, Jean and Joe Westover of Washington, Carol and Kelly Albright of Huntsville; another niece, Vickie Ortan of Huntsville; one nephew, James Askew of Huntsville; and a special nephew and his wife, Harold and Vivian Johns of Leesburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jasper Johnson; his mother, Lena UpChurch Johnson; a sister, Gladys Johnson; and a nephew, Lynn Askew.
Pallbearers will be Harold Johns, Dennis Johns, Steven Smith, Lamar Darnell, Kelly Albright and James Askew.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the East Gadsden Church of the Nazarene and a member of VFW Post 10408. He was retired with 27 years service from LTV Steel.

Services for Rev. Jessie L. Sumlin, 82, of Bynum, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Holy Hill Holiness Church in Lincoln with Bishop Edward Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Bynum. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
The Rev. Mr. Sumlin died Tuesday at Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Sumlin of Bynum; one daughter, Retha Richey of Bynum; three sons, Henry Protho of Bynum, Brady Protho of Anniston and Tyler Sumlin of Georgia; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Mr. Sumlin was a member of Holy Hill Holiness Church.

Services for Athy Hubbard Thorpe, 90, of Douglasville, formerly of Anniston, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Gray Brown-Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
Mrs. Thorpe died Friday in Douglasville.
Survivors include her husband, Horace Thorpe of Douglasville; two sons, Charles R. Thorpe of Douglasville and James L. Hubbard of La Place, La.; three daughters, Judy G. Sallee of Douglasville, Barbara Haynes of Union Grove, Ala. and Shelia Kay Mou of Bethlehem, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Mrs. Thorpe was a native of Calhoun County and a resident of Douglasville for the past seven years. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church and a steward in Methodist churches in Weaver and Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.D. Hubbard.

Services for Eula Mae Wooddy, 96, of Piedmont, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Dean Beard officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.
Survivors include a niece and her husband, Rita and Fred Spears of Piedmont; a nephew and his wife, Sam and Lisa Wooddy of Piedmont; a great-niece, Vanessa Wooddy of Piedmont; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Wooddy of Piedmont and Georgia Gray of Florida; and four caregivers, Gail Cooper, Kathleen Houson, Helen Estes and Myrtle Franklin.
Mrs. Wooddy was a member of Piedmont Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She worked for the First National Bank for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Wooddy.
Pallbearers will be Jim Thompson, Sr., L.T. Morgan, Jim Garner, Don Glover, Garland Estes, Val Hemozkiy and Harbin Morgan.
The family requests no flowers and asks that memorial donations be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad or the Hospice of East Alabama.

Services for Leland Henry Richard Bachmann, 59, of Oxford will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel with Rev. Howard Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Iron City Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Bachmann died Tuesday in Birmingham.
Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Austin Bachmann of Oxford; his mother, Grace Bachmann of Norwood, Minn.; two daughters, Margaret Lisa Williams and Tammy Bachmann of Ohatchee; a stepdaughter, Teresa Juarez of Steele; five sons, Richard Bachmann of Jacksonville, Jeff Bachmann, Matthew Bachmann, Chad Bachmann and Todd Bachmann of Washington state; a stepson, Charles Edward Johns Jr. of Oxford; two sisters, Ann Marie Gleason of Norwood, Minn. and Bertha Ide of Lester Prairie, Minn.; a brother, Ken Bachmann of Minnesota; three grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Steve Balish, Jerry Wilson, Ken Ferguson, Billy Austin, Sam Beard and Jonathan Austin.
Mr. Bachmann was a native of Minnesota and had lived in Calhoun County since 1985. He was an Army Vietname War veteran and was a former employee of Anniston Taxi and Andy’s Taxi Service. He was a Lutheran and was preceded in death by his father, Herman Bachmann.
