SYLACAUGA — Melanie Hosey, 44, died May 27.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Flora (Fleecy) Sumners Jones, 87, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones died May 26 at Coosa Valley BMC. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ereman Jones of Sylacauga; brothers, Carl Sumners, Charlie Sumners, Levis Sumners and Jim Sumners of Sylacauga; and sister, Midas Garrett of Sylacauga.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

FALKVILLE — Graveside service for Helen Gautney Orr, 78, will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Pine Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Rob Paul officiating.
Mrs. Orr died May 26 at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. She was a native of Clay County and was a resident of Talladega most of her life. She lived in Cullman for the past seven years, was a member of First Baptist Church of Talladega and was a retired bookkeeper.
She is survived by daughters, Gail Hall of Anniston and Susan Smith of Cullman; brother, Tyrone Gautney of Rome, Ga.; six grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 until 4 p.m.

BEATRICE H. REAMS
SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Beatrice H. Reams, 89, was Tuesday at Curtis and Son Funeral Home South Chapel with the Rev. Todd Reaves officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Reams died May 24 at her residence. She was preceded in death by two husbands, John W. Traylor and Lawrence Reams; one son, Roy Traylor; one daughter, Laverne R. Mizzell; and one sister, Lois Hester. She was retired from Avondale Mills and was a lifetime member of Mignon Baptist Church.
She is survived by one brother, Sylvester Hallman of Kellyton; one sister, Mattie Parker of Sylacauga; seven grandchildren, Saranda Acklin of Sylacauga, Mike Traylor of Decatur, Cecil R. Traylor of North Carolina, Connie Hayes of Haleyville, Allan Traylor of Lynn, Vickie Mizzell of Birmingham and Betty Ann White of Birmingham; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home South Chapel directed the service.

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Sallie (Ese) Davis Rush, 84, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Kay Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
in Sylacauga.
Mrs. Rush died May 27. She was a member of Talladega Saddle Club.
She is survived by a sister, Odell Wills and husband George Wills of Sylacauga; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Davis, Wade Wills, Scott Wills, Sonny Davis, Tommy Hayes and Roy Lambert.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

BETTY JEAN GOODWIN SIMPSON
LEEDS — Funeral service for Betty Jean Goodwin Simpson, 71, was Monday at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Simpson died May 23. She was employed at Wal Mart in Irondale for 11 years and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Euland J. Simpson; daughters, Judy S. Norris and Stephanie Williams; sons, Randy Simpson and Danny Simpson; brother, William Ray Goodwin; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

TALLADEGA — Elizabeth Swain, 51, of 420 West Coosa St., died May 27 at Citizens BMC.

CULLMAN — Larry Taylor, 47, formerly of Talladega, died May 27 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

LEEDS — Funeral service for Jerry Vernon Wright, 56, was Tuesday at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Wright died May 25. He was a member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Pell City and played steel guitar for 2nd Generation.
He is survived by his wife, Penny O. Wright; daughters, Tammy Marie Bryant and Terri Melissa Garrett; son, Thomas Mark Wright; sisters, Gail Murphree and Peggy Tyler; brothers, Eugene Wright and Jeffrey Wright; and five grandchildren.
Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

MARY KAY SMOTHERS
GADSDEN — Graveside service for Mary Kay Smothers, 66, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Glenwood Cemetery
in Fort Payne with the Revs. James L. Moore and Billy Smothers officiating.
Mrs. Smothers died May 27 at her residence after an extended illness. Kay was affectionately known as "that little red headed woman at Browns" by the thousands of women she helped with their purchases of bags and shoes during a 25-year career at Browns' Shoe Store on Broad Street. She remembered most of them by their shoe sizes.
She had a God given talent for helping the elderly, who often gave her gifts and asked her to bake them cakes or prepare her specialty dishes for them.
Kay was of the Baptist faith, praying daily and sharing her faith with the many senior citizens she visited and helped care for during her lifetime. She just had a knack for working with the elderly and making them feel loved and important.
She was a native of Fort Payne where she attended DeKalb County High School and played trumpet in the band. She had lived in Gadsden for the past 42 years and was a member of of the East Walnut Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, T.H. and Mary Brock, and an older brother, Bud Brock.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Smothers; a son, Jim Jr. and his wife, Sinikka, of Talladega; a granddaughter, Mary, serving in Iraq with the Army National Guard military Police; and a grandson, Michael, attending school in Mobile; a younger sister, Ann Wester of Fort Payne; and an older brother, T.H. (Hati) Brock of Ringgold, Ga.
The pallbearers will be Rudy Abbott, John Alred, Greg Bailey, Mike Clay, Charles Freeman, Ted Kruljac, John Pruett, Bill Smothers and Larry White.
Special thanks to the Rev. Richard Trader, Dr. Elquis Castillo, Dr. Ralph Wesley, Anita Simmons, Cleasta Dupree, Trish Edmondson, Donna and the Gang at Gadsden Health Care and the team of cancer doctors at UAB Hospital, especially Drs. Chung and Taft.
Flowers will be accepted or donations made in her name to the American Cancer Research Center.

HOMER COY JACKS
TALLADEGA — Graveside service for Homer Coy Jacks, 82, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Pine Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Bob Blackwell officiating.
Mr. Jacks died May 28 at Citizens BMC. He was a native of Rock Mills and lived in Talladega since 1959. He was a Baptist by faith, was retired from Crown Textile and was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Jacks.
He is survived by one son, Danny Jacks of Talladega; daughters, Linda Ponds of Oxford and Nancy Gunter of Gaston; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from noon until 1:30 p.m.
